Radio streaming via a router?

Since my uncle added a router between his Tower PPC Single 1.8 and his Dell, he can no longer receive any radio streaming. Considering he is an avid international radio listener, to say that he is peeved is an understatement.
Disconnecting the router from the entire system restores radio streaming 100%. So my question is: once a router is connected, do one or several ports need to be opened somewhere to allow radio streaming?

Virtual PC
Thanks for the info, it'll allow me to open the appropriate ports *IF* I can figure out a few questions.
But first, here's more on the situation:
-I thought my uncle streamed his radio servers from an Airport Base station to his AEX. Wrong. He doesn't own a Basestation. He turned his PPC into an Airport Transmitter and that was enough.
- Here's a list of things that don't work since the router has been installed:
* His USB Logitech microphone will not transmit on either iChat (3.0) or Skype. The 'potentiometer' visibly works in the Sound System Pref, but the mike will not operate out of his computer. However, reception from others is OK in both Skype and iChat.
* Radio streaming via iTunes.
* Real Player radio. (Unable to connect to the server)
- His new router is a DI-604 by D-Link. In this link (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93333), the router is an 'acceptable' router from Apple's point of view. Now I need to know: does this router have its own firewall on by default? My uncle's PPC firewall is off and he wants to keep it that way. I don't know much about the D-Link, he threw the box and instalation manual in the garbage already. Not only is he technophobic, he also considers manuals are for wusses...
- If I need to access the ports on the D-link, how do I do it: via the host server? Terminal? Some funky app?
- By tomorrow morning, I'm sure I'll have more questions to ask, but hopefully someone will have answers to the above.

  • Listening to 3rd party radio stream (via Tuner) gets interrupted by ipod

I was listening to an internet radio stream at the gym tonight when all of a sudden the phone just switches over and starts playing a song from my music library. The display on the phone still showed the Tuner app' in the foreground but with the audio from the ipod app' playing.
I switched to the ipod made sure it was paused and then tried to play Tuner radio again only to have the ipod cut back in a few minutes later. This kept happening until I left the gym.
I understan that if the internet stream drops out then the music will stop, but why is the ipod "kicking in"?

    Thanks for responding!
No, I don't jump the gun and advance to the next song/podcast, it just plays through to the end and then the next song starts.
I don't think the JBL On Stage works the same way Ford's Sync does. I should have been more specific in how the car's built in iPod interface works. You cannot control the iPhone's iPod features from the iPhone screen when plugged in. The screen displays a message that it's in slave mode or some such thing and all control comes from the car's controls.
Things like the On Stage you still have control over the device while docked, so it may be reacting differently.
I looked at Circuit City for any kind of device that was more than just a dock/external speakers, but no luck there. Surprised that place is still in business, poor selection, no customers...

  • Does iTunes 11 still offer the radio streams that the previous editions did?

Does iTunes 11 still offer the radio streams that the previous editions did? For instance I could listen to Canadian Brodcasting from all over Canada, or NPR stations in different cities. I know they've added a Pandora like feature, but I'd like to keep the streaming radion feature as is.

quote "I think Apple have taken a wrong turn with the new iTunes 11 update by removing some key features. Most concerning for this this writer is the removal of the user generated iMix ecosystem.  I am asking iTunes to bring back the iMix and I encourage you to do the same at their feedback page http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
I believe honest word of mouth  is the best recommendation and the iMix ecosystem contains plenty.  There are over zealous self promoters and fanatical fans in there  too but at least the content its real opinion and generated by real people.  Which is far better that the beefed “Listeners Also Bought” box which just looks like machine generated advertising to me."
I just sent them feedback I suggest everyone do so.

Was heißt das nun ?

  • HT1143 Radio streaming to apple TV

How do you set up radio streaming?

    Hi Alley Cat
    Thanks for replying
Specifically I am streaming content from Itunes (The plan was to replace my dvd player with my imac dvd function streaming to the apple TV)
It is accessed under Computers menu in aTV.
    Folowing your other reply's comments:
I agree ATV should buffer before playing to avoid uninteruppted playback. However, mine is buffereing only enough to playback 10-20 minutes at a time and then rebuffering.
This obviously works for the kids cartons but is no good for a 2 hour film
I think this could be down to my wifi droppnig out. I have an AirPort Extreme Base Station mated to a normal sky router/wifi box.
Every so often my mac loses sight of the airport and airport needs rebooting. If this is the failure, would that affect ATV?
    Any thoughts??
    cheers
    Andy

  • Streaming via VLC

I'm trying to set up a video stream through VLC.  Remote clients are able to use the stream, but they do not play anything and just sit with buffering at 0%.  This occurs with computers in my local network as well.  My router is also correctly configured to forward port 8080 to my computer.
The only thing I can think of that would block this is /etc/hosts.deny, which is set to "ALL: ALL: DENY".  What would I need to add to /etc/hosts.allow in order for streaming via VLC to work?

Falcata - did you ever get this working? I've been playing around with trying to stream from VLC to XBMC on 2 systems in my home and am not having any luck. Was wondering if perhaps you could share with us what you ultimately did to get this working. That is assuming of course that you did eventually have success.
    Thanks!

  • Radio problems via ITunes??? Wha???

Anyone know what has happened to the radio access via Itunes??
When accessing "Radio" from the menu bar at leftof Itunes screen, the "refreshing categorie"s step takes forever, and about 50% of the time then states an error message.
when a category does refresh, the getting of the playlist from a specific station. ends, but nothing plays and nothing happens.
Occurs across all catergories and all stations. Is this a result of the upgrade tp 8.1???? Is this occurring across the platform???

I had theses dropped internet radio connection on itunes for years now. Where iTunes would endlessly rebuff the streaming every few minutes ... really annoying (here, its happening again !! )
I always assumed it was my internet connection, not fast enough (10mbs/sec on cable). One thing that might help but will not resolve it, is to go in iTunes Preferences / advanced -> sert the Streaming buffer size to large. It will help a litte but wont resolve it.
Funny thing .. when i get very frustrated, I plug my iPhone to my sound system and via Wifi listen to the same exact internet radio station ( 977 alternative the buzz ) on the same exact wireless network ... and it NEVER drop !!
    any thoughts ? I blame iTunes !

  • Radio streams repeated rebuffering - solved (sort of)

    Hi everyone,
I listen a great deal to radio streams with iTunes, well, I used to anyway.
For some time now the streaming quality has been rather poor: after only a few seconds it stalls and says it's rebuffering. After a little while it catches up and will play for another minute or sometimes a little longer before the next breakup - it's dreadful.
My 8Mbps/sec adsl is definitely fast enough but it just won't play uninterrupted.
I tried a few things like...
    - adjusting buffer size
    - different stations
    - iTunes 4.7 on another Mac
    ... but the problem persists.
In my frustration I went to one of the stations' sites and discovered that one can stream the same programme via Real Player.
Guess what, Real Player has been playing that same programme now for more than an hour without any hiccups.
For instance I can play this stream http://netmusique.com/listen.php?stream=JM&type=pls just fine in RP but iTunes keeps stuttering.
If anyone cares to check I'd be very interested in your findings.
    Cheers Martin

I've noticed the same thing, stations seem to need to rebuffer constantly. I've noticed that some people have been posting it happens when they stream music through Airport Express but I've seen it just on my laptop. The fact that you had it happen with iTunes 4.7 makes me wonderif it has to do with Apple's servers. I've been told that is where the stations are coming from (which is why you can't add any to the radio list) But then again the stations I'm having trouble with aren't from iTunes but ones I've added into my library. Anyone have any ideas??

is there a way of.m3u internet radio streaming on my iPhone?  I was looking for a way of downloading .m3u files and putting them on my iPhone and was wondering if Music would do that as I cant get it to work. Or can anyone recommend another solutio

    Copied from your initial post:

    Hence my reply.
Look in the app store for a streaming app, there are many.

  • Is it possible to create a link that I can place on a website to an internet radio stream on iTunes?

Is it possible to create a link that I can place on a website to an internet radio stream on iTunes?

Yes, but it WON'T play through the browser. It'll require any visitor who clicks it to have iTunes installed, and it'll open iTunes as soon as they do.

  • Photo Stream (via iCloud) is no longer working on PC -- w/o system changes

Photo Stream (via iCloud) worked great on my Windows PC a week ago.  Suddenly it's stopped entirely.  When I attempt to open it, I get an error message that says that "Photo Stream is not enabled" and that I should go to the iCloud Control Panel.  When I go to the Control Panel to initiate the change, I can put a check mark in the box to activate it, but it will not retain the change when I hit apply/save.  It also disables Windows Explorer when I do this.
I don't believe this is an IOS6 issue since it was working fine for a period of time after I put IOS6 on both my iPhone and iPad devices.  I've also not made any changes to the Windows laptop involved.
Is anyone else having this problem.  Any suggestions on how to resolve it?

After upgrading to iOS 8.1, upgrading to the latest iTunes and re-installing iCloud for Windows, Photo Stream is working again!

    Might be a Safari extension...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab.
If there are any extensions installed, turn that OFF, then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
