Radiohead album art finally available - sort of

So we all have a rather complete Radiohead collection, and now finally their catalog has been released for sale in the iTunes Store. However, the album art is not yet (directly) downloadable for those of us who have bought the CDs and ripped and encoded our own files.
Well, the good news is that I've managed to get all my Radiohead album art from the iTunes Store with a little bit of temporary re-tagging. To get any of the album art, you'll have to change the Artist tag to Radio-head. This will allow downloads of all the mainstream studio releases. To get the album art for My Iron Lung, I had to also change the Album tag to +Lung (EP)+, and this worked fine.
When finished downloading all your album art, just be sure to go back and re-tag your albums properly.
Cheers!

Interesting observation. I just had an instance where the last 12 seconds were getting chopped off of an album that I recently added to iTunes. The album art wasn't huge (700x700 px) but it was larger than I normally use. I went back and replaced that art with one with a smaller version, re-synced my iPod and now the songs play just fine.
I know I have other songs that have exhibited this behavior in the past. I'm going to have to make sure I try this with other songs to see if it was a coincidence or not.

How do you download album art not available in iTunes store.
I could copy and paste in the older version but not since the latest update

    Thanks Mark pianoman

I, too, relied on the name of the iTunes library being displayed on the top header bar of the iTunes window. I have 2 iTunes libraries that I go back and forth on all the time, and now I really have to look at the contents to figure out which library I'm in at any given moment.  What a pain!!  And what a stupid move to diminish functionality, Apple.  You folks have been doing this more all the time lately -- taking away perfected functionality -- and either deleting it or changing it just for the sake of a new look.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!  Please!
A good example of that is the dim grey text in all too much Apple everything these days.  Black is beautiful, please!  And especially useful in reading!!  And, apparently, enough people thought so, too, since I see black text is back in iTunes 11.  It went grey, and you heard from enough people that that was something no one should have changed.  Well, as the Gipper said: Here you go again!  Bring back the Library Name.  You've got plenty of room; you don't need to put it in another vertical space -- just put in in line with the other stuff you've got there.  Put it left of the "Search Library."  That would be fine.  But, just do it!

  • ITunes Album Art and song sorting difficulties

    Hello.
I would like to solve something I've been having trouble with for a while now.
I am one of those people who like to only see the album art of a playlist I created. So, I don't like it when there are a 1000 different album arts, a different one for every single song, when I tild my iPod touch 4th generation to landscape mode. I have created 3 playlists in total, so only want to see 3 different album arts.
The only way I've managed to do this so far, was clicking on a song and selecting the show info button, and then click on: part of a compilation, and fill in all the different info and specifications for the song and the playlist it's in.
For example, in my playlist Michael Jackson:
But everytime I add a new song to my iTunes library, and put the song in the Michael Jackson playlist, it shows different album and album-artist info. (because the songs come from my Windows 7 music library and not every song comes out of the same MJ album. Some come out of the album Thriller, some come out of other albums )
So that means, if I don't want a new album art picture everytime I put a new song in the Michael Jackson playlist, I manually have to fill in all the specifications again: album-artist = Michael Jackson. Album = King of Pop. Sort album = King of pop, or a new album art will appear in landscape mode with only one song underneath it.
So finally, my question: is there any way iTunes can do this automatically, when I add a new song to one of my playlists?
My iTunes is in Dutch, hope that doesn't cause difficulty.
    Greets from the Netherlands.
(Sorry if my English is difficult to understand)

I'm new here and didn't realize that correction would bump this discussion.
It does, and that's fine as long as you're not too impatient. (Though I've probably missed what you've corrected.)
Isn't it a bit strange that iTunes doesn't have some sort of button: 'put all the songs in this playlist/album under one artwork?'
    Or is that just me?
If it's not just you, you're certainly in a minority. Use the Songs and List views and you can pretty much ignore artwork in iTunes, but I think most people associate songs with the albums they come from and the correct art helps when browsing. I'm the other way, everything has to have the correct art (which must be exactly square), Title Case Spelling, long file and folder names in Windows Explorer, etc. See Grouping tracks into albums for more...
Something else I just noticed. In iTunes on my PC it's fine, the songs on my iPod are in the same order as they are showed in iTunes, but  they have a completely wrong number in front of them on my iPod, like this:
    1. Bad
    8. Beat It
    5. Ben
    12. Billy Jean
    2. Black or White
    2.Billie Jean
Do you also happen to know how to solve this?
Those are probably the original track numbers showing through, but I'd need to see more details to be certain. There is a section on track ordering in the article above.

  • ITunes sorting question - album art

    Hi,
I currently have my itunes setup whereby it shows the album art for each album (this is the third possible viewpoint, of the four that you can select).
The trouble is, some of my albums have multiple singers in them (e.g compilation albums).
So, if I "sort albums by title", I get multiple versions of the same album art in a row, one for each singer. If I click the album art, only that one song comes up, rather than all the songs in the album.
In other words, I just want each album art to show ONCE, and for all the songs in that album to be displayed when I click on that album art. This works fine if the album has just the one singer on it, but if it has multiple singers, the problem above occurs.
Is there any way I can fix this?
    Thanks

Setting the Album Artist will fix most of the problem, but for more information see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Album Art Sorting incorrectly in Compilations/Albums iphone Music App listing/tab

Album Art Sorting incorrectly in Compilations/Albums iphone Music App listing/tab
Sounds like a mouthful, but basically im saying that I have a bunch of compilations that when displayed in itunes on my pc,
show the album art which is set for the first track. This is to be expected.
But when i upload the compilations to my iPhone 5, and i open up the Music app and select the compilations tab...
The same compilations show another album art that is actually associated with another track in the compilation.
When i looked for a pattern, i found that it would basically take the album art from the track in the compilation based on the artists name in reverse alphabetical order.
So if i had album art associated with every track in the compilation, normally it would show in the listing the album art of the first track... but now it was actually the album art of the artist name starting closest to the letter z.
I've tested this many times. very annoying. but to explain again...
If i have a compilation containing artists from Coldplay to Ziggy Marley... no matter where in the listing Ziggy Marley is listed first to last... it will display the Album art associated to Ziggy Marley in the List view for the Compilations or Albums tab in the Music app on an iPhone 5.
Normally you would expect it to show the album art associated with the first track in the listing as it does in Itunes so as to keep uniformity between what you upload in iTunes and what you see in the Music app on the iPhone.
THIS IS A BUG APPLE!!!... test it for yourselves... someone broke your db sorting in the new itunes. ITunes 11, with iPhone 5
    Please fix!
    Thank you kindly...

another note... when i select the album from the list (on the iphone, in the music app) and it slides over to show all tracks in the compilation...
it then shows the proper album art as it should.
Also, when i check cover flow it then shows another incorrect cover?

  • [SOLVED - well, sort of]Ipod album art -----

I know this topic has been explored fairly frequently in the past, but I just wanted to check in (what with amarok2, libgpod 0.7, etc) with the current state of getting album art onto an ipod. (Arch 64 here, by the way, if that makes a difference).
    1. Amarok 1.4 - it used to transfer the art, but it doesn't seem to anymore. Everything else about it works the best of all these programs.
    2. Amarok 2 - doesn't do album art or playlists (that I can see, at least) yet .... will keep on eye on this one.
    3. Rhythmbox and banshee - I want to try them, but neither will recognize my ipod (2nd gen nano, mounted via pcmanfm to /media/ipod. I'm using openbox, with a hal rule to mount all ipods to /media/ipod)
    4. Songbird - very promising, but no album art support yet and it's pretty chunky.
    5. Exaile - It sees my ipod, but doesn't want to copy any music to it. It also crashes when I try to delete or edit a playlist on the ipod (exaile-bzr won't compile for me)
    6. Floola - I really want to love this program because it does everything - photos, calendar, etc. But it's horribly unstable (both windows and linux versions) for me, trying it with multiple different ipods.
    7. gtkpod - well, it works....slowly (we have about 6000 tracks in our collection)....weirdly....but I guess I'm stuck with it for now??
Please help with any fixes for #3 or any other ideas.
    Thanks!
    Scott
yes, yes, I know, the music is the key....album art really not THAT important in the big scheme of things thus amarok1 installed from AUR!

I use albumart-qt to embed the covers in my songs.... then it should be independent from the way you transfer your music...

  • New issue about Album Art

I sent this e-mail to Apple and was sent back a "follow-up" e-mail a day later that completely disregarded everything I said and didn't answer anything I asked. I figured if I post on this board I could actually get some help since the phone and e-mail already failed. My questions and all of the information are below:
I recently downloaded iTunes 7 and was excited about the new cover art feature. However, I have a problem while using it. I purchased the explicit version of the CD "Fly or Die" by N.E.R.D. at a store and had ripped it to my iTunes library. I wanted to get the proper cover art for the album so I created an iTunes account and then used the "Get Album Artwork" feature for a song on the CD. However, the cover art given to me was not the artwork with the "parental advisory" sign on it. I know this seems like a minor detail, but what bothers me most is that iTunes offers both cover art for the explicit version and the clean version of the CD and even though I have the explicit version I am stuck with the clean version's artwork. What puzzled me even more was the cover art's hue given to me from iTunes looked different from the version that can be seen in the iTunes store. You can notice this if you look at both covers from the iTunes store and then use the "Get Album Work" yourself. I don't know if this is a glitch within the system but I was wondering how I can get the explicit version's cover art now that iTunes offers ALL of their cover art and I had created an iTunes account based on this feature.
I have also noticed difficulty getting the explicit version of an album's cover art for many other CDs I have in my iTunes library. Is there a way to access them because I keep recieving the clean versions even though both should be available. My tracks are even named exactly like the explicit versions in the iTunes store. I hope something can be done about this and would appreciate a response whenever information about these subjects have been figured out.

Allistair Hart: I appreciate your investigation but I don't quite understand your results. Are you saying that you were able to access the "Fly or Die" explicit album art by using the "Get Album Art" feature or were you only talking about viewing it from the iTunes store? The iTunes store by the way DOES have both the explicit and clean versions of the album.
Nathan C: At first I tried searching for the album art based on the information I already had labeled for each track. That didn't work so I set my song information exactly the same as the way iTunes listed it but that didn't work either. Finally I labeled the song with the word "explicit" after it (I tried putting it after the album title, artist, and song title, using several combinations) but that also didn't work.

  • Nokia N95 8GB Album Art and Album Folders Issue

I have been hunting for for a resolution for two issues with the N95 8GB Media Player all over the web.
    1. Adding artwork (CD Covers) to audio tracks (or albums) seems to be at best hit and miss. Most of the time it just does not work.
    2. Deleting an album delete all the tracks but deleting the album folder seems almost impossible.
Well this weekend I decided to try to solve this and I think I may have hit upon a solution.
Since so may people have the same problem I thought it worth repeating. I would stress this has not been exhaustively tested but it does work reliably so far.
I am using Nokia Music Manager 2.0. The fix is simply to convert the files to AAC rather than to M4A (which is the default). After this simple change everythig worked find for me. I can add and delete albums from Nokia Music Manager 2.0 (don't forget to refresh on the phone afterwards) AND reliably add Album Artwork.
So here is how I have been working.
    1. Set the conversion format to AAC. I have been using 'Ultra high' quality setting. Options Menu >> Setting >> Conversion Tab.
    2. Next put in a CD, select all the tracks and choose copy to my collection.
    3. While this is going on I find the artwork on the Web. A simple Google Image search with the album title and artists last name / band name seems pretty 100% to get the on the first page. Download image to My Documents / My Pictures.
    4. Once the CD Rip is complete they will all appear in My Collection. I select all the tracks in my collection for the album in question, and then right click on one of them and select Edit.
    5. I then attach the Album Artwork by clicking on the blue folder and choosing it from my, MY Pictures folder.
    6. Finally select Copy to Phone from the File Menu.
This has worked for me so far 100% and I have done 20 or so albums.
    NOTES:
To get Nokia Music Manager 2.0 I uninstalled the version of Nokia Phone Suite that came with my phone and went to
http://europe.nokia.com/A4144905I (or seach Google for "nokia phone suite"
I chose the N95 8GB downloaded and installed. At some point shortly after install Phone Suite informed me that there were updates available and Nokia Music Manager 2.0 was one of these.
I was originaly using this and suffered all the problems you guys have. After searching the web and finding no solution I decided to do some experimenting.
    Hope all this helps.
PS If you need to delete all your legacy album folders, this is the fix I found on this same site. You can do this at any time.
    1. Enable the option to be able to see Hidden Files and Folders in your Windows Explorer.
    2. Connect your n95 8gb to your computer and choose data transfer mode.
    3. Go to My COmputer >> Nokia Phone Browser >> Nokia N95 8GB >> Memory Card E:
    3. If you have selected Show Hidden Files and Folders (see 1) you should see a folder called Private.
    4. In the Private folder you need to delete the contednts of three folders
    \private\101FFC31 (mpxv1.mpd and pcv5.mpd)
    \private\101f8857\Cache
    \private\101ffca9
In all the 3 folders delete all the files Not the FOLDER
Next time you restart the music player it will rebuild the indexes without the deleted albums folders.
Hope this helps someone. It restored my sanity.

    Album Art
    Basically there are two methods
    Method 1.
You do it on the phone. Load the album art pictures to the memory card. (Must be JPEG NOT BMP)
    Load also the music files.
Open Music application in the phone. Open an album then select Options->Album art then Options-> Add, browse for the picture and select Ok.
    Repeat for each ALBUM
    Method 2.
You do it on the PC.
Get a Tag editing software like Tag&Rename, WINAMP, etc.
Edit the files Metadata to include Album Art picutres (again they should be jpeg and also they should be set as Cover Front).
Transfer the files that have Album Art using File transfer (usb mass storage) don't use MTP or PC Suite as these methods may convert the files and Album Art will be lost.
Or you can continue using your Method

  • Is there a good way to update album art directly on my ipod?

    Hi, new here.
So I have an ipod nano 5th gen: 16GB.
I have ~1500 songs on it and have been facing a slew of interesting issues with my album art.
    1.  I prefer to add songs manually as I tend to want only some of an artist, genre, or similar, and I like the control it gives me.  The problem that I've been having is that there is no efficient way to add artwork to the songs / albums on my ipod that I have ripped from CDs, and are already on my ipod.  Going through all my songs and seeing if they have art would be tedious and time consuming, and the only better way to do this seems to be deleting songs off of my ipod and re-copying them.  Normally, I would just delete all my songs and re-copy them all, and go do something else for half an hour or so, but there are some songs on my ipod that may not even exist on my computer anymore, and I can't get them again.  Is there a better way to just synch songs with the ones in my library and update those that have had art added?  (The synch button at the bottom of the ipod tab / window doesn't seem to do that.)
    2.  At one point, I tried manually adding artwork to albums using Wikipedia images / etc, and I know that many people like to put their own artwork for their albums.  The problem I had is that adding the artwork directly to the album only updated the firts track, and the rest still had the big note on them.  Is there a way to adress this and make it apply the picture to the whole album?
    3.  When I was finally able to update my images because they required an apple id, and I didn't have a credit card to give, the custom images on the albums stayed.  Is there a way to override this?  The artwork that was downloaded looks better then what I had.
I know this is a lot, but I think these questions are related enough.
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Can't see album art in Songs view in iTunes 11, column browser issues

The column browser is still the most effective way for me to navigate my music, but in iTunes 11 it's only available in Songs view. This kinda makes sense, the column browser would be somewhat redundant in the other views, but Songs view is now missing the album art on the left side, which makes it a lot harder to view my music. This is what it looked like in iTunes 10:
In iTunes 11 it looks like this:
The album art was't just pretty, it had a great function of visually separating each of my albums in the list view. Now they all mush together. Sure, I can see the art now in the Artists or Genre view, but not with the column browser. I want to be able to sort by Genre, Artist and Albums - all three. Not one or the other. The column browser is the only way to do this and it just got uglier.
On top of all this, now if I navigate to a certain place in the column browser and then click on anything else in iTunes, like the Artists view, Movies, Podcasts, etc and then jump back to the column browser, the whole column browser is reset and I've lost my place. This never used to happen in iTunes 10.
It's like Apple is trying to marginalize the column browser till no-one wants to use it anymore.

I found this in another discussion about iTunes 11:
"To view in list/song view with art work on the side
Go to prefernces >general and uncheck use large text. Go to Artist view > view > options > check group compulations.  then clik on all artists and all you music will appear in list view  with the art work on the left This is great for me as I recognize my music by art work not title, artist, ect..  Wish I could do additional sorts/see info in this view such as date added, BPM, last played ect."
can you try it and post a screen shot?

  • My ipod shuffle control works better with album art installed

For years I've been somewhat laxed about installing any form of album artwork when it was not readily available. I recently installed some sort of artwork for every album, playlist or song on my iPod. If I could not find the album, I just pasted an acceptable image. I noticed an unbelievable difference in the shuffle song selections immediatly. There are songs and even one of my bird call sound clips that are included in the shuffle selections that would never play in years past. The results were the same on both of our 80g and160g iPods. Use to be I'd get a little frustrated at some of the songs thinking that I'd heard that song sequence somewhere in the past. Each IPod holds over 8000 songs so it was hard to really tell. Now, the shuffle selections are the way I'd always wanted but could never seem to achieve. I never considered linking the artwork with the shuffle song selection capabilities but it made a huge difference. Both my wife and I noticed it immediately. Not sure if anyone has had a similar experience?

You don't need to put the album art under Photos on the iPod. They just need to be in iTunes with the correct song.

  • Wave Files and Album Art

Can you add album art to .wav files?

Can you add album art to .wav files?
From the point of view of iTunes the answer is no, you cannot add Album Art to WAV files.
In terms of adding meta tags to WAV files, one or two programs use RIFF chunks to store meta tags in WAV files, this is actually how Apple do it for AIFF files. However iTunes does not support this for WAV files, and Windows Media Player does not support reading the tags in AIFF files.
If you are looking for a lossless music format that can be shared between iTunes and Windows Media Player then I have been there, got the T-Shirt, etc.
A long time ago in a Galaxy far, far away... before I ripped all my CDs to iTunes, I considered what format to use that would be lossless and shareable amongst everything I was interested in.
That is, what is the one true lossless format (to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them...).
Initially I thought WAV, as it could be played by iTunes, iPod, and of course Windows Media Player, but I instantly discovered iTunes could not add artwork to WAV files. I then checked and confirmed Windows Media Player can as standard play AIFF files. However while it can play them, because it cannot read the meta tags in AIFF files, it will not let you add them to the Window Media Player library. At that time, I did not seriously think it would be possible to use Apple Lossless files in Windows Media Player, but I checked and I was right, it was not possible and it was believed at that time that it would never be possible since Apple Lossless is a proprietary format.
I did initially settle on using AAC instead (a lossey format) which can be played and used (with additional software) with Windows Media Player.
However I never give up and continued on my quest for the holy grail of one lossless format to rule them all.
FLAC and OGG can sort of be used in iTunes for Mac, but not on iPod, so they were ruled out. WMA lossless was instantly ruled out because while it might be possible to import in to iTunes (for Windows), it cannot be used in iTunes (meaning you would have two copies of each track), and it also cannot be used on the iPod.
I then used some lateral thinking, while there is no Apple Lossless solution for Windows Media Player, is there a solution that runs on Windows and maybe could be adapted to use with Windows Media Player? I found solutions for use with Foobar 2000, WinAmp, and dbPowerAmp, but none of these would work with Windows Media Player. I then found mention of the BASS software library (for programmers to use to write music programs) which is available for both Mac and Windows. See http://www.un4seen.com/ I also found that a module had been written for use with BASS to play Apple Lossless. However BASS by itself still would not work as a directshow filter for use with Windows Media Player. I then found mention of someone taking BASS, and an MP3 module, and packaging it as a directshow filter for use with WMP. Ah, hah! I thought, all we need is to do the same thing but with the Apple Lossless module. I was able to get in-touch with the programmer who had done that and persuade him to do the same thing with the Apple Lossless module which was written by MaresWEB and now available as open-source code here http://www.maresweb.de/projects/bass/alac.php
Jackpot, I can now play Apple Lossless in iTunes, iPod, Roku Soundbridge, Sonos ZonePlayer, SlimDevices Squeezebox, Apple TV, iPhone, Windows Media Player, Microsoft Media Center 2005, etc. etc. etc.
The one true lossless format is therefore the one you would least expect, it is Apple Lossless!
The Apple Lossless directshow filter which Milenko Mitrovic packaged together is available from his website http://www.dsp-worx.de see the January 8th 2007 entry.
You will also need a plugin for Windows Media Player to let it read MPEG4 meta tags, this plugin would also be used for AAC files as they use the same MPEG4 file format and tags. There are two available (both free) either this one http://wmptagext.sourceforge.net/ or this one http://www.softpointer.com/WMPTagSupport.htm
iTunes can of course add album artwork to Apple Lossless tracks (including as embedded art), it is possible (with various steps) to add Apple Lossless tracks to Windows Media Player, and have it play them and manage them in its library, and it is possible to use folder.jpg files with Windows Media Player for its copies of the artwork.
