RAID 0 Windows shows incorrect Drive capacity

Hello ALL I just installed RAID 0 on my PC with 2 Raptor Drives using the Intel Controller on the Neo 875 FIS2R.
The only problem I am having is when I look at my C drive in Windows XP Pro it shows the Capacity of one Drive only but the RAID seems to be working and the Intel Program does show it set up Correctly.. Is there any way to get a correct showing of Drive Space in Windows using RAID 0 ?

Never Mind I found it..... incase u were wondering or have the same problem

  • How can I fix a problem with incorrect drive capacity?

When I do a get info on the drive capacity it says I have only 2.64gb free. However when I open it and total the folders there is near 300gb free which is what it should be. I can't find what is taking up the space

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • 30gb video ipod showing incorrect storage capacity

    Hi,
I have a 30gb ipod. When I connect the ipod & open itunes or ipod updater, the ipod appears with an incorrect storage capacity.
The updater shows all other information correctly, except for Capacity, which shows at 65.0GB
With nothing on the ipod, Itunes shows used: 4.49GB, free: 58.99GB. If I try to transfer any files I get a message saying that there is not enough free space to transfer the files.
I have restored to factory settings, re-installing all software, changing usb ports etc but nothing seems to have helped...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Matt.

  • Xserve Raid Not Showing all Drives Empty - No Green Lights on Xserve Raid Drives

I have an Xserve Raid.  I recently set it up with my Xserve server with fiber cables and now when the Xserve Raid system boots and starts all the drives show as empty in the Raid monitor.  Not sure if I have something configured wrong and I think I shut it down incorrectly before I got it hooked up right.  When I first got it I was able to see the lights on all the drives but now it boots but no drives show up at all.  I have fiber cables to the host Xserve machine and the Xserve Raid plugged into the network with only 1x  ethernet cables (not 2 if that makes a difference).  When I try to manage the Xserve Raid all drives show as empty even though all the 500GB drives are plugged in.  Not seeing any green lights when the Xserve raid boots indicates something is up.  I reset the controller cards to stock with the paper clip to factory settings.  Does anyone have any ideas on what to try.  Anyone have this issue?  I haven't found any discussions except one that had a single side of drives go down because of a bad controller card.  My Xserve Raid shows no drives at all.  Any help is appreciated.

Expansion is a 2 step process: First, you expand the array. Second, you merge the slices. The documentation is clear on step #2, but the GUI doesn't FORCE you to do it. However, it is necessary.
If you did both steps, try rebooting your host and see if it picks up the changed size. It does work... the usual issue though is growing the file system to recognize the additional size. On Linux, I can't help you.

  • Ipod Touch showing incorrect storage capacity

I have an Ipod Touch 64 GB 5th Gen running iOS 8.2. I'm not certain when this issue occurred initially from the devices perspective - only when I first noticed it. The device was running 8.1.1.3 at the time. I was working with it in Itunes and clicked on the iPods summary screen to check for the iOS 8.2 update. I noticed the capacity of the device was showing as 56.62 GB. Available space was 43.19. The little memory symbol for the Ipod shows 64 GB. I was troubled by the capacity message. No help there. I ran the Update to iOS 8.2. Succesful. Still same capacity. Checked the iPod's Gerneral/About screen - Capacity listed 56.6 GB.
Have I lost access to 8 GB of capacity here? Should I reset the thing?
    Message was edited by: meteoricide
Total of Audio, Video and App Data is 14.12 GB.  Available shows 43.19 GB. That adds up to 57.31.GB. So there is a 700 K discrepancy. Total Photo Data happens to be 700 K. Just saying.

You only have 56.6 GB available to you. The difference between that and the 64 GB advertised capacity is taken up by:
The operating system since you can't use that for storage
and how GB is advertised and used/reported by the operating system. See:
How OS X and iOS report storage capacity - Apple Support
The update did not change anything except likely reducing the capacity by 10 or so MB since update typically add things and thus takes more storage for the operating system

  • HT4863 iCloud Mail is showing incorrect storage capacity

My Mailbox is currently showing 3.1 GB capacity, and is causing huge trouble in my iCloud backup and operations in several of my iDevices including my mac.
When I open my iCloud account, I've ensured I deleted majority all of my previous email and is left with less than 1 MB worth of emails. I've also emptied my trash bin and cleared both Junk Folder and Sent Items.
Even after all the clean-up the email capacity never moved and remained the same?
    Is there a bug?
Can I just delete this email account in iCloud and re-create it to avoid this HUGE 3.1 GB it is misreporting?

  • Z77A-G65 and windows 8 mode shows no drives

I put the latest firmware on, and tried to install windows 8 pro after turning on windows 8 features mode in the UEFI setup.
I have the main drive on the system as a Samsung 830 128GB SSD the on the 6Gbit controller ports... then 2 2TB HDD's in RAID1 on the 3Gbit ports, which has RAID mode turned on on all the ports
when I go into the setup, it tells me no drives are available to intall on, any reason why this would be? I can find the drives fine if I turn windows 8 features mode off in the BIOS config for UEFI

Quote from: xmad on 16-November-12, 23:58:29
    IRST= Intel Rapid Storage Technology
Win 8 didn't detect the drives during install until I installed the drivers, then it did just fine. I just included them on the flash drive with which I was installing. The install still didn't work so it doesn't really matter though as it fails when "preparing devices"
yes... I know what the IRST drivers are... they are built into the windows setup driver cache.... like I said I can see the RAID array without loading any drivers when I start up the windows installer for windows 8 in UEFI mode but with the windows 8 features not enabled...
    BIOS -> Windows 8 Features > disabled
On Boot get boot menu, select UEFI: [Windows 8 Setup drive name here]
UEFI Setup loader starts, shows the windows logo for the loading screen
    click install
Intel RAID array drives listed are showing up
that is with Windows 8 features disabled
    BIOS -> Windows 8 Features > Enabled
On boot menu select UEFI: [Windows 8 setup drive name here]
UEFI Loader starts but now the windows logo shows up as a MSI logo (sign that windows 8 features are now enabled)
    click install
Intel RAID array drives are no longer showing up on the drive list
if I didn't have the drivers already in the setup, why does the array show up in the first setup with the features disabled? you need them to see the array
something isn't working as it should because you sould see the same arrays in both scenerios, for some reason the drivers are not loading when windows 8 features are enabled but load fine when the features are disabled in the bios config

  • How to restrict "Open Applications" window from showing C drive? Or use the Windows Explorer "Open" Window?

Hi, Im new to JDeveloper and I work in a school which requires restriction of the C: Drive. Does any one know how I can either stop the "Open Applications" dialog from showing this drive or Use the Windows Explorer "Open" dialog window to browse files, the drive has been hidden and restricted using GPO but JDeveloper shows the C: drive?
    Any help is much appreciated.

Hi and thanks Timo. We are using 12c. On the Windows side of things, we are using Win7 and we have hidden the drives we don't want the user to see using GPO but obviously Jdev then shows these drives in its "Open Applications" Window and allows access. As far as the environmental variable is concerned this is something that I put in place.
Many thanks for your reply and the link to the tech doc.

  • Apple RAID Card and 3TB Drives only show 2.2 TB

I tried a 3TB Seagate Barracuda XT drive in the July 2010 Mac Pro (and a Jan 2008 Mac Pro) on the RAID Card that came with the machines (so one is the RAID Card now shipping) and both show a maximum of 2.2 TB with a 3TB drive.
I'm curious if anyone else has tried this with different results. Any luck in getting the RAID Card to see the full 3TB in the drives?
By the way, without the RAID Card, the Mac (OS 10.6.4) sees the full 3TB, but not with it.
    Anyone else seeing this?

Okay. Seems Apple didn't plan for or certify 3TB.
However, Apple doesn't support using 3rd party drives. Some do, and in some situations, drives you would think work don't, or they work but only briefly.
When I said read FAQ I was thinking of all the points like this:
Question: *Which drives does Apple support for the Mac Pro RAID Card and the Xserve RAID Card?*
Answer: Only Apple SATA drives and Promise 450GB SAS Drive modules sold through the Apple Store are supported for use with the Mac Pro RAID Card (Early 2009) and the Xserve RAID Card (Early 2009).
Apple 300GB SAS Drive modules are supported with the Mac Pro RAID Card (Late 2007) and Xserve RAID Card (Early 2007).
Drives must be either all Serial ATA (SATA) or all Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives. SSD drive modules are not recommended for the Apple RAID Card because these drives use their own on-disk cache and cannot take advantage of the protection provided by the battery-backed cache on the RAID card.

  • HOW TO install RAID/ AHCI 975x PUE Driver Guide

As below on how to install the matrix driver, there is no 'how to install on a system not already preconfigured with raid/AHCI'. This driver creates a F6 Floppy disc, why? because windows will  not recognise your hard in AHCI mode without the driver installed. This is why we get a reboot with AHCI enabled. It gets to a point then when windows loads with no driver it reboots. If you try to load the driver first, the hard ware has not been enabled so there is nothing to install. Reinstall Windows is the only way.
    * 5.  INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
    5.1 General Installation Notes
    1.  If you are installing the operating system on a system
configured for RAID or AHCI mode, you must pre-install
the Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager driver using the
F6 installation method described in section 5.3.
    2.  The 'Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility'
must be installed on the system after a supported
Microsoft* Windows* operating system has been installed.
    3.  To install the Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager,
        double-click on the self-extracting and self-installing
setup file and answer all prompts presented.
    4.  By default, all installed files (readme.txt, help, etc.)
are copied to the following path:
        <bootdrive>\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager
5.2 InstallShield* Installation from Hard Drive or CD-ROM
Note: This method is applicable to systems configured for
          RAID or AHCI mode.
    1.  Download the Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager setup file
and double-click to self-extract and to begin the setup
        process.
    2.  The 'Welcome' window appears. Click on the Next button
        to continue.
    3.  The 'Uninstallation Warning' window appears. Click on
        the Next button to continue.
    4.  The 'Software License Agreement' window appears. If you
agree to these terms, click on the Yes button to
        continue.
    5.  The 'Choose Destination Location' window appears.
Click on the Next button to continue.
    6.  The 'Select Program Folder' window appears.  Click on
the Next button to continue installing the driver.
    7.  If the InstallShield* Wizard Complete window is shown
without a prompt to restart the system, click the Finish
button and proceed to step 8. If it is shown with a
prompt to restart the system, click 'Yes, I want to
restart my computer now.' (the default selection) and
click the Finish button.  Once the system has restarted,
        proceed to step 8.
    8.  To verify that the driver was loaded correctly, refer
        to Section 6.
    5.3 Pre-Installation Using the F6 Method
    Note:
The Steps 1 and 2 can be skipped if you use the F6 Floppy
disk utility provided by Intel. This utility can also be
downloaded from the following website. These methods
are applicable to systems configured for RAID or
          AHCI mode.
    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Product_Filter.asp?ProductID=1809
    1.  Extract all driver files from the installation package.
See Section 7.2 for instructions on extracting the
        files.
    2.  Create a floppy containing the following files in the root directory:
        iaAhci.inf, iaAhci.cat,
        iaStor.inf, iaStor.cat,
        iaStor.sys, and
        TxtSetup.oem.
    3.  At the beginning of the operating system installation, press F6
to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver.
    4.  When prompted, select 'S' to Specify Additional Device.
    5.  When prompted, insert the floppy disk you created in
        step 2 and press Enter.
    6.  At this point you should be presented with a selection
for one of the following depending on your hardware
        version and configuration:
        - Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)
        - Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)
        - Intel(R) 82801FR    SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH6R)
        - Intel(R) 82801FR    SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH6R)
        - Intel(R) 82801FBM   SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile  ICH6M)
        - Intel(R) 82801ER    SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH5R)
        - Intel(R) 6300ESB    SATA RAID Controller
    7.  Highlight the selection that is appropriate for the
hardware in your system and press Enter.
    8.  Press Enter again to continue. Leave the floppy disk in
the system until the next reboot as the software will
need to be copied from the floppy disk again when setup
        is copying files

Well I went for it, RAID that is. I borrowed a 300GB SATA II Seagate Barracuda from work to backup to and got started. I shall layout how I did it for those having trouble.
So my old config was Maxtor SATA II 80 DiamondMax system drive and a Maxtor SATA I 250GB DiamondMax for Data. Now with the 300GB SATA II to backup to and running in IDE mode enhanced with speed disabled in bios. HDTach benchmarking is in above posts for these drives.
I copied all that data I wanted to extra drive and made a boot floppy and copied the files from the 975xPUE CD for the Intel RAID controller.
    CDROM:\IDE\Intel\ICH7R\Floppy\32
Now I shut down my system, removed the bachup drive and entered the bios.
*I set back all my setting to default, no overclock.
*Integrated peripherals/Onboard JMB361 mode: Disabled JMicron controller
*Intergrated peripherals/SATA Devices Configuration/SATA Mode/ Set to RAID,
    *SATA Port Speed/Disabled.
*Set system to boot from CDrom.
I put in my floppy and the XP CD and rebooted, CTRL +I to enter the Intel RAID setup and first thing I found out was that with my 80GB and 250GB drives in a RAID 0, I was getting 152GB of a logical drive. So I setup the RAID and rebooted.
80GB+250GB=152GB RAID 0 (I have about 200GB backed up, so I going to have to get another drive, SATA II 300 maybe)
Now the system booted off the XP CD and as it started to load, it read the floppy and I DID not press F6. I noticed that just before the setup screen the system loaded the driver automatically from the floppy. And low and behold it recognised my hard drive 152GB and I kicked off the install.
    * Note: After Setup had finished formatting the partition, the system loaded the drivers from the floppy again and then started copying files from the CD before restarting to boot from the hard drive. So if you had already removed the floppy, the drivers for the Intel RAID controller would not be loaded and the second stage of install would never get started, blue screen or not recognise you hard drive.
The rest of the install went very quick and I installed all the drivers and NOW for the juicy bits.
Ok so I thought, how am I going to read my backup drive which is IDE/SATA on my system if it is in RAID. So I connected the drive to the Jmicron SATA port 5 enabled the JMicron controller in the bios and set it to IDE.
*NOTE: After I  rebooted the Intel RAID had reverted back to IDE so I had to go back into the bios again and set it back to RAID. When I rebooted I got the Intel RAID slash screen and then the JMicon one showing me the 300GB and asking my to press a button to continue. Quite abit of extra startup time with both enabled.
Windows loaded fine and both my C: 152GB RAID 0 and D: 300GB were there, but the 300GB was showing as a removable device! I know there is a reg fix for that somewhere.
Benchmarking: This is the best bit!
Maxtor Diamond 80GB SATA II and 250GB SATA I = 150GB Logical RAID 0 test with HDTach 3, 8mb test:
               Burst Speed : 320.9 mb/s
               Average Read : 120.3 mb/s
Now that is some difference from IDE enhanced so well worth the effort!
      IDE:        Burst Speed: 215.3mb/s
                    Average Read: 59.0mb/s
Now I also tested the Seagate 300GB SATA II drive which is connected to the JMicron controller in IDE mode and the results show that the JMicron does not support SATA II drives but maxes out SATA I: so even if I do buy and extra drive will I be able to add it to the RAID 0 or will I be stuck with SATA I speeds on the JMicrom controller. No doubt I will soon find out.
      Seagate:  Burst Speed: 150.5 mb/s
                    Average Read: 50.5 mb/s
    Thanks for the tip Insomniac34

  • T42 Showing Incorrect Adapter Name in Access Connections

I am working on a T42 laptop and installed Access Connections 5.12.  I have gone through and did all the prerequisites prior to installation of Access Connections (wireless driver update, UltraNav Driver upgrade, Video Upgrade, BIOS upgrade, LAN driver update, etc).  I have created a profile for a wireless network that is in range and operational.  My problem is the adapter is showing incorrectly within Access Connections.  This wireless adapter is identified correctly in device manager as "11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter".  But in Access Connections, it is showing as "Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN".  I am needing this to identify the correct adapter to get Access Connections to work.  Any ideas?

    Hi jeremieolson,
Unless you need to use Access Connections to switch among multiple *wired* networks, I'd suggest simply un-installing Access Connections and using the built-in Windows tools for establishing your wireless connection. Windows will let you establish wireless profiles just like Access Connections does. AFAIK Access Connections doesn't add anything to the built-in Windows wireless networking, and in your case it's misbehaving, so...

  • Phone Disk Shows Incorrect Free Space

    Hi all
I am using Phone Disk on the Mac (makes the iPad/iPhone show up as a hard drive) and its showing the incorrect amount of hard drive capacity and free space.  It does this on both mine and my girlfriends iPhone and also on my iPad. For example, I know I have 10gb available on my 64gb iPad but Phone Disk shows me I have only 900mb free out of 1.5gb of hard drive space.  I have also installed iPhone Explorer and this also has the same problem.  I'm a little confused!
    Thanks
    Rich

The available disk space reported in finder is totally wrong.
Even if it accounts for the local snapshots. In my macbook air it shows 120 Available in finder which is just 1GB less than my SSD capacity.

  • D20 - 4158 with Marvel Raid + windows 7 failed to restart (Blue screen) after installation

I installed Windows 7 64 bit by providing the Marvell RAID driver downloaded from  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-73716. The installation goes fine, when the computer restarts, the windows 7 logo flashes and then immediately the blue screen comes and then the computer restarts. This continues repeatedly.
I checked the Raid, we have one array with Raid 0 configuration. I could not find out why the OS installation goes fine but it fails to restart
    Kindly provide some technical input.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

After double checking the link you provided....I'm confused on your setup.  Can you reiterate which drives you have in the system and which ports they are connected to?
For a D20, you should have all HDDs attached to the blue ports.  These ports route directly back to the Marvell controller.  Then during the OS install, you need to supply the Marvell driver (not the Intel RAID driver that you specified in your link).
The only reason you would supply the drive you listed in your link is if you're attempting to run HDDs off the black ports on the system.  This will work (but is not supported) for regualar HDDs in a non-RAID config.  The D20 utilizes the ICH10, not the ICH10R, so there is no way to utilize RAID off these ports.  The black ports are intended for ODD use only.
So I'm guessing you either have drives connected incorrectly, or you were attempting to provide the incorrect driver during the OS installation.

  • Where is my Hard Drive capacity...

I bought a MacBook last week and I haven't put anything on here except Windows Vista so I partitioned 32GB for that. Now I don't have the partitioned windows and and my capacity went from 232.89GB to 200.88 GB where is my other 32GB, and how do I get it back?
    Thanks - Andrew
P.S. I wouldn't mind doing a whole system reset (or something) I just need to know how.

Harddrives are interesting. And I don't know why or how to explain it, but on every device, brand new, you'll never have the "full" amount listed. Take an iPod for example. My 8 GB touch brand new said it had something like 7.1 GB available. My 4 GB flash drive has a capacity of 3.81 GBs.
FOund this to help you out. It gets techy and I don't really get it, I just accept it.
"Q. My hard drive capacity is less than I expected?
    A. All hard drive manufacturers use a slightly different yardstick of measurement than your computer does. The hardware industry measures disk capacity as 1GB equals 1,000,000,000 bytes.
Computers calculate disk drive capacity as 1GB equals 1,073,741,824 bytes.
If you take your hard drive size and divide it by 1074 rounding up you will get the approx. size in Gigabytes available on the computer. A quick way you can confirm this is by checking your local hard drive capacity. If you have a 120GB hard drive locally it will show up as 111GB. A 30GB hard drive shows up as 27.8GB. Likewise a 500GB drive shows up as 465GB. etc. For more information on this visit www.wdc.com or www.maxtor.com or www.seagate.com."
So doing that math a 250 GB HD should have a capacity somewhere around 232.88, which sounds just on par with what you get (remember the math is a rough estimate)
I checked my hard drive (250 GB) and capacity is listed as 232.57 GBs
