RAID 1 on a 770-C45

I've got a 770-C45 with an Athlon II X3 435 and 4MB of 1333mhz DDR3 ram and Windows 7 installed on a SATA drive.
I've added two 1.5TB SATA drives and tried everything that I can think of to set up RAID1 for data without success.
Is there a guide anywhere that can explain it to me?

Well you have 2 ways of doing it.
1. Put the controller in RAID mode and create an ARRAY.
Don't forget to install the RAID drivers!
However I do not like this method, because if you switch controller the data can be lost and it's not a real hardware controller anyway.
2. Connect the drives to controller in normal mode, then goto Computer-management, put them in Windows Raid1 mode, much more safe as it's RAID1 regardless of the controller used.
See this guide for XP, should be about the same in Windows7: http://www.optimiz3.com/low-cost-and-reliable-network-attatched-software-jbod-raid-0-1-or-5/
The speed of both is on par, but the last one doesn't need special drivers or controllers.

  • 770-C45 + Everest 5.02 front sound ports?

Well its like this, I just built my computer using this motherboard and set everything up in bios and it worked perfectly right out of the box, I installed Vista home premium with no problems using AHCI, everything works well but I have an odd thing happening when I use Everest 5.02, a pop up asks what I have plugged into the sound jacks, not really a problem, just a bit odd, that’s with onboard sound, anyone else notice this? BIOS 1.3

No, I always use AHCI, I know it doesn't make much difference to the speed, but I use it anyway, I normally use raid 0 but I only have one hdd in this computer, and I have a sound card on its way, I never did like the idea of onboard sound, my post was more a question for other 770-C45 users to see if they all do it

  • MSI 770-C45 locking up/blue screening/other errors on boot

I recently built a new HTPC and have been having allot of problems getting it to boot.  It may take 10-15min of trying to boot up over and over with random blue screens, lockups, or errors that the C drive needs to be checked for consistency before Windows will finally load up and work.  At first I thought it was a bad drive, but according to Western Digital’s HDD Diag util, both the controller and the drives surface checks out OK.  I just wiped the drive out and reinstalled Windows 7 again, and this time went with IDE instead of AHCI, hoping it was a driver issue.  It only worked well for a day before the same problems started rearing their ugly head again.
At this point I don’t know if I have a memory issue, a CMOS setting wrong (which are All Auto), or what.  I hoping someone here might have an idea of what this problem could be.

According to MSI, my motherboard supports the following modules:
    DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600*(OC)
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=prodmbspec&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=171&cat3_no=656&prod_no=1812
This are the speeds of the DDR 3 RAM supported ,1600Mhz beeing done with overclocking ,because the CPU memory controller is no able to do 1600 by default.

When I look at the test results for my Motherboard:
    http://www.msi.com/uploads/test_report/TR10_1812.pdf
I see 1333 RAM list like PC11000 DDR III RAM (DDR-1333).  However, If I go to a site like Bestbuy or NewEgg and search for DDR3 1333, it shows results like Corsair - 2-Pack 2GB PC3-10666 DDR3 DIMM Memory Kit.  I see PC3-10666 and PC3-10600, but nothing for PC11000.
The only mention of 1333 modules on the test report is for 1333 OC
When you see the PC 11000 DDR3 or PC3 10666 specifications they are refering to the theoretical bandwidth ,it s related to the frequency of course ,but it s something else it s a data rate. Its wikipedia but it s good enough -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_3 Some specs are atipical like 10666 ,marketing thngyes
Search the internet for memory that works ok with your CPU ,look for "real" DDR 3 1066Mhz or DDR 3 1333Mhz."real" means that that memory should be able to run at those frequencies without voltage increase over the default one.Usually when a memory vendor says you need to increase voltage for a specific frequency it means that you overclock and that there is no warranty they will work in your configuration.
So you need DDR 3 1066Mhz or DDR 3 1333Mhz ,it needs to be AMD tested memory and it needs to be a known to work RAM on MSI motherboards timings wise.Look up on newegg and see what works.
The performance gaps between 1066 and 1333 are small in real practice and you can overcome some loss by using a "real" DDR 3 1066Mhz , tweaking different timings ,using Command Rate of 1T for example ( you may "feel" it smoother in desktop than a 1333Mhz at 2T).

  • MSI 770-C45 DDR3 1600 Problems

    Hi people,
Sorry if this is a common problem but did look through the forum but couldnt quite find a problem like mine.
I have followed custom pc computer build for a gaming rig and have had hang ups randomly which allow me to do nothing but switch off system.
To cut a long story short i have tried everything to fix this but now it seems to be running ok as i have changed settings for ram to 9-9-9-24 and timing to 2T.
I have also set the volts up to 1.77 (or nearby) but i am wondering if this is correct thing to do. I am stress testing it now with prime95 and hoping these setting are correct.
    M/B=msi 770-c45
Mem=corsair dominator ddr3 1600 (2 sticks in same colour port which is blue)
    Proc=AMD athlon II 2 pro

If the system is stable, then dont change anything.
An AMD-cpu does NOT support 1600MHz -- that is, the memory controller can handle 1066MHz or so. If you set the memory frequency higher, then you are overclocking the system which may result in freezing or other system problems. By losening timings a bit (9-9-9-24 2T) you solved it. Now, keep on testing. If the lot stays stable, then don't change anything else.
Also, use CPU-Z to see what timings/frequency-combinations your memory can handle.

  • MSI 770-C45 - Windows Install stuck on 'system is starting windows'

    Hello,
I am trying to get a machine setup, everything seems to be booting fine and nothing wrong hardware wise.  When I attempt to install Windows XP Pro SP1 or Windows 7 Pro, I don't get to the 'select partition' step.  It gets stuck on 'system is starting windows' each time.
I have flashed the bios to the latest (1.4) and it didn't help it either.  When looking online I just find too many individual problems and answers to this issue.  I am at work now so when I get home I will update with more info as well as try a few more troubleshooting steps.

As a note, I am troubleshooting a friends computer that he was setting up.  Further troubleshooting steps by me:
Fredrik, I was unable to find the speed/memory handling option in the BIOs to change it down to UDMA2.
I don't have a spare set of DDR3 Ram to test that out.  Have a spare PSU to test with but haven't done that yet.
Switched out the DVD Drive to a Lite-On IT Corp. Model LH-52C1P DVD burner and it got stuck on 'Setup is loading files (Windows Executive)'
Attempted to switch out the IDE Cable for the DVD Drive and found I couldn't put a new one into the Motherboard.
Seems two pins (one over the other on the far left side) are bent just a little out of place and are loose.  Looks like I might need to exchange the board for a new one by the looks of it.

  • MSI 770-C45 Gameport compatibility

    The problem:
I have an MSI 770-C45 mainboard and want to use the gameport on an Ensoniq ES1370. I can't get it to work in any way. I think the cause may be the mainboard reserving hardware address 201 for its own purposes (at least Windows XP tells me so, range 0x201 - 0x201 conflicts with "Motherboard resources" twice). Am I correct on this? Is there any way to get the gameport to work?

That thing must be more than 10 years old and drivers are probably no good for XP. Creative took over the company so you would need to check with them if there are updated drivers.

It works flawlessly under XP (Professional) on another computer with an AMD processor, though that computer is less recent . Think Athlon 2600+, GeForce FX5200 and so on.

Why do you need the gameport? If its for a game controller, why not treat yourself to a modern USB one? As Henry says, I've not seen any devices that connect to a gameport for 10 years or so now...
There is that; it may not be worth the effort to get the old gameport gamepad working.

    Yes, there are converters.

  • 770-c45 won´t post.

    hi guys!!!
well... yesterday i go to the shop and buy a whole system by parts. i get home to setup everything and i get nothing.
the system turns on with the first led on and that´s all. fans are working and the lights of my case too.
    msi 770-c45
    amd athlon II X4 640
    asus eah5770
4gb kit ocz ddr3 pc3-10666 gold (low voltage)
the psu it's a generic one of "500W".
i asked in the shop about this, and they told me that i shouldn't have any problem with that PSU.
i tried everything already. 1 ram stick in every slot. without video card. without ram, without cpu... out of the case.
nothing changes. always the first led is on. the fans too and no beeps at all. all power cables connected.
i´ve been reading for hours and i just cant find any solution. so any help will be very apprecciated.
    greetings from germany.

Well, that is what the shop says.  It does not mean anything.  After all it is a theory, nothing more.  What you need to do is an actual test.
yeah, i know that. it will be an issue if the generic PSU doesn't have enough power. but to don't post at all??? even a beep without the ram or anything on it. (it should be)
my first thougth was to test another PSU but i can't, unless i go and buy a new one.
i had read a lot about this MB and this same issue. but i cant find a why or a solution.

  • 770-C45 and CPU compatibility

    Hi,
First, I'd like to thank the retarded genius who chose a terrible captcha which wasted me 8 minutes trying to decipher it before I could register :D
Anyways, here's the real question since it wasn't very obvious from MSI's site.
I'm planning to purchase the 770-C45 mobo and would like to use on it an AMD Athlon II X3 445 @ 3.1 GHz. According to the CPU support page of this mobo model, it's in the list. What's not very clear to me is if this processor *by default* is supported or not, or whether I'll have to upgrade the BIOS first. Well, you could say "duh, it's in the list so it should be supported". But the list, even though the CPU is on it, only mentions a BIOS version and I can't find which BIOS version the mobo is shipped with.
    Thanks

Quote from: Bas on 04-October-10, 20:01:57
There is a sticker on the BIOS chip telling you what BIOS is installed on the board.
And the retard is me, thanks to spammers who like to abuse forums
Yes, but I *don't have* the mobo yet. As I said, I'm planning to buy it (from online shop) but there's no info on the BIOS version nor can it be seen on the one pic they provide. That's why I'm asking. Obviously, one needs to have a supported CPU installed so it can boot up, do a BIOS flash if needed, and then install the desired CPU (in this case the 445). I don't have any other CPU lying around which will work with this model and MSI's site is as clear as mud on this one. They provide information about from which BIOS version and upwards a specific CPU model is supported, but don't say a thing with which BIOS version the specific mobo is shipped with so a person could know in advance if he needs to flash it or not. Most online shops don't provide info on the BIOS either, so go bang your head
About the captcha, there are better ones and as effective as the one used here, yet much better readable. Have a look at ReCAPTCHA, used by a lot of sites

  • 770-C45 - memory issues w/ Crucial DDR3

    Hi,
I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to all this so apologies if any of my questions seem a bit daft...
I recently put together 2 PC's with identical spec (770-C45 boards & 2x Crucial 2Gb DDR3 CT25664BA1339 - as detailed in my signature) & both had same issue where WinXP would freeze during the copying files stage of the installation. After reading through these forums, I saw others with similar problems had advised raising the DRAM voltage, so I changed mine from default AUTO setting in bios to 1.63v & this seemed to work - WinXP installed normally after that & all seemed OK. However, both PC's have recently been suffering occasional random freezes (can't ctrl-alt-del & nothing reported in Event Viewer) & since Crucial strongly advise sticking to the 1.5v default I'm wondering whether the increased memory voltage might be to blame?
What would you advise is the correct bios configuration for my memory? I don't understand why it simply doesn't work at the manufacturer's recommended 1.5v. Is it going to be stable running at higher voltages like 1.63v or 1.67v? Should I set the memory timings manually (and if so, what are the standard settings as some people have said 9-9-9-24 1T & others seem to have 9-12-12-30 2T?) As I say, I'm not very experienced at this but I just want a stable reliable system. Thanks, Al

Pushed both my systems really hard yesterday & no crashes whatsoever . If all goes well today then I think I will also cancel RMA for memory as I'm loathed to mess about with a PC that appears to be working perfectly well (despite running at 1066 instead of 1333). Not sure how big a difference lowering to 1066 makes to overall system speed but can't say I've noticed anything - tried running 3dMark to compare more precisely & the numbers don't seem that far apart (to my inexpert eyes anyway):
    now (1066):
    3DMark Score: 13495 3DMarks
    SM 2.0 Score: 5495
    SM 3.0 Score: 6449
    CPU Score: 3495
    before (1333):

    SM 2.0 Score: 5512

  • 770-c45 + Phenom II 955 upgrade headache

I purchased a Phenom II X4 955 CPU to replace my Athlon II X2 245 CPU. I have an MSI 770-C45 motherboard.
So, I opened up my PC and got to work. I changed the CPU, but when I tried to turn it on it wouldn't even post. All the fans spun but nothing else happened.
I concluded that it must be because the BIOS was a little old so I put the old CPU back in and it booted fine. I then updated the BIOS to the most recent version. Everything was working flawlessly.
So then I swapped the CPU's again. Unfortunately the problem seems to persist. My PC simply will not post with the 955 but does so without a problem with the athlon.
I really do not know what to think. Is there anything that I could be missing? I did double check my power connections and my PSU is definitely good enough (500W Antec).

  • 770-c45 connect with Home Cinema via coaxial

Hi there, I just bought a new computer with the 770-c45 motherboard in. I'm trying to connect it with my Home Cinema amplifier, via coaxial cable just like I already have my old computer. In the rear panel I put the mini jack in the black pin but I can't get any sound. My Home Cinema is Sony dav dz260 and it supports Dolby Digital 5+1.
I installed the latest drivers for the motherboard but nothing seems to happen. When I connect the cable in the black pin, it recognizes it as an analogue connection. The cable is mini jack at the one end of the cable and at the other one RCA. Could you please help me

Also as they said they can make it by other ways if you prefer , but you have to pay more.
They are not asking from you to put the money in a bottle and to drop it to a sea to travel to MSI by wave power.. :D

  • 770-c45 with Athlon X4 620 and OCZ PC3 12800

I am slowly buying parts to upgrade...I bought the 770-C45 about 1 month ago and 4x1G OCZ PC3 12800 part number OCZ3P16002GK (the reason I went for two 2x1G kit instead of one 2x2G kit was the cost of former was about 50% of the price of the latter) anyway, I am planning to buy the Athlon X4 620 for the above but I am not sure if it will boot on the 770-C45 since I am sure the bios on the 770-C45 is not the latest.  Any comments?  Tia

Got this board myself, and looking to get a 620 also, on checking the CPU compat list, it says BIOS version 1.1 should be ok, current bios is upto 1.3 so i hope my board boots with the processor.

  • 770-C45 Mobo

I recently bought a 770-C45 Mobo and am have a ridiculously hard time setting it up. The user guide is less than worthless and there is no good tech support at the MSI web site. I recently built the system and have the following hardware:
    AMD Sempron 140 CPU
    GeForce 7900GS video card
    4GB Corsair DDR3 PC-10666 ram
    Liteon ide DVD burner
    250GB Seagate Momentous HDD
    450W PSU
Everything seems fine when turned on - POST passes, but Windows starts, then drops out and resets. I can't figure out how to boot from the DVD, there is no boot order that I can find. Also the SATA HDD does not show up in the BIOS, but the machine still passes POST and starts to load OS. This is making me nuts. Will appreciate any help.

First off, I found the boot order in BIOS and set the first boot to the DVD. As I was writing this I rebooted the machine and now it's working fine. The SATA HDD is now showing in BIOS and Windows starts fine. I have no idea what was wrong before as I did nothing except reboot one more time. After restarting and shutting down and restarting several times, there doesn't seem to be any issues at all. Maybe it's just a ghost in the machine. I bought the board on eBay so hopefully this isn't some recurring problem and is the reason it was being sold. Thanks for your quick reply. If the problem recurs I'll be back.

Hello.. iam gonna try to explain this ass good as i can ..
Iam trying to do a clean install windows 7 ultimate (via DVD-ROM) . But the problem is when i come to the install setup it takes around 30sec or so from there to i get a black screen and the PC freezes.
I have to manually pull the power cord to restart the computer..
    I have tryed:
Another graphic card gf 8800gts 640.
Just using 1 mem at a time and tryed it in every slot,
    Tryed using another hard drive
Tryed using VGA adapter with VGA cable.
Tryed updating the firmware on the motherboard.

    Hi,
I hope wiping the drive works for yeah.
As far as the psu is concerned, I agree with what the others are saying.
Looking at your psu specs, you only have 24 amps on the 12V rail.
Your video card requirements call for that but you have no head room.
Total watts is not the only way to pick a psu.
How those watts are deligated to the various voltages it puts out.
Plus you want a psu that offers "clean" consistant power.
When you get your w7 installed we can help you pick a better psu if thats what you want.

Under the details tab, you can see this unit is rated at 46 amps.
Being this is a top of the line psu, it delivers that at clean power.
Researched the heck out of this before I bought it.

wipe the hdd with manufacturer tool, then try again
I just tryed doing a FULL HDD wipe and tryed install win7 agian but it gave me the same result.
I allso borrowed a gfx PowerColor Radeon HD 5450 to test with.
When i tested i also tryed removing everything not needed inside the case. 2 x Case fan`s, 1x2gb memory brick.
But it gave me the same result.
