Raid 1 on ix12-300r

We have a storage ix12-300r with no raid 1 option. This have only raid 0, 5, 6 and 10 options. The firmmare version is 4.0.20.33131.
Please, it's possible to actived raid 1 option on this storage ?

Hello UnimedRC,
You should be able to create a new storage pool, with two drives in it, and set that storage pool to RAID 1.
Search this manual for "Storage Pool" to find all the information required to do so:

  • IX12- 300r data verification in the middle of the day and cant access shares.

The raid verification has kicked off in the middle of the business day and has degraded performance to almost unusable. This is a big volume at 18Tb so should send users home.
No way to turn this off once it has started and appears no way to schedule when it is going to run.
Anyone found a work-around for this... really have not hit this issue before with older firmware so not sure if its a new firmware issue or we have just been lucky. Currently on 4.0.4.146.
Any basic raid controller with raid and data verfication you can schedule, appears not to be the case with Lenova EMC solutions that makes them unusable in a corporate envirnment.

It is unfortunate to hear that as well as the device should automatically detect the new disk and rebuild the RAID array. If the replacement hard drive is not a Lenovo approved drive or was not received from an authorized reseller, the device may not detect the hard drive.
For a list of approved drives: Which hard drive brands and models are approved for use with the StorCenter ix12-300r?
If the replacement is not from one of our resellers, it is recommended to clean the device before use: Cleaning a hard disk for use with an ix or px network storage device
Also, is this device in warranty? You may as well want to call in to technical support to make sure that the device is functioning properly and the firmware is not corrupted.

  • Creation of new storage pool on iomega ix12-300r failed

    I have a LenovoEMC ix12-300r (iomega version).
    IX12-300r serial number: 2JAA21000A
There is at present one storagepool (SP0) consisting of 8 drives (RAID5).
    HDD 1-8 (existing SP0): ST31000520AS CC38
I have aquired 4 new Seagate ST3000DM001 drives as per recommendation on this forum:
    https://lenovo-na-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/33028/kw/ix12%20recommended%20hdd
I want to make a new storage pool with these 4 drives:
    HDD9-12 (new HDD and SP1): ST3000DM001-1CH166 CC29
I have used diskpart to clean all 4 drives and the IX12-300r can see the drives just fine.
When I try to make a new storage pool, naming it SP1 as the only storage pool is named SP0, I get an error: "Storage Pool Creation Failed"
Please advise as to how I can get these drives up and running.

I have pulled the 8 hdd from storage pool 0.
Then I rebooted with the 4 new hdd in slot 9 - 12.
Result: http://device IP/manage/restart.html, with the message: Confirmation required. You must authorize overwrite existing data to start using this device. Are you sure you want to overwrite existing data?k [yes] / [no]
I then answer yes four times anticipating that each new drive needs an acceptance, but the dialog just keeps poping up...
Then I shut down the device and repositioned the 4 new drives to slot 1-4 - but the same thing happened...
    Any suggestions?

  • Is it possible to replace a failed drive with another unused hard drive within an ix12-300r

I have an ix12-300r with a failed drive in a storage pool - I want to replace the failed drive with one of the other drives in the NAS that are unused (i.e. not part of any other storage pool)
i.e. Storage Pool consists of 3 drives - disk 1, disk 2 and disk 3.
    Disk 3 has failed.
Disk 4 is free and not used by any other storage pool.
Can Disk 4 be pulled out and then put into the place of Disk 3?
(All disks are the same model/size/speed)

    Hello cayliffe
Yes!  In you case disk 4 would be usable as a replacement for disk 3.
You can remove disk 4 and put it in bay 3 if you wish, however you should be able to set the ix12 to use unused drives as hot spares so the firmware switches to the disk automatically.  In Drive Management > Settings the "Use available drives as hot spares" option will allow your device to use any compatible unused/available disk as a hot spare for any of the storage pools.

  • Ix12-300r Fans Running at 100% on boot up but nothing else happens!

    Hi All
Hopefully someone will be able to assist me, i have an ix12-300r at home that use as a media server.
It has 20Tb of storage across 3 pools,
Earlier today i was moving some media off of it & suddenly it stopped responding.
I left it for 2hrs then decided to button it until it went off.
Now whenever it starts up the fans do the usual 100% spin but the ever stop, no HDD's show any activity!
    Have i lost everything?
What can i do to get it going again?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Mark

    Hello Jockavelli
Forcing off these type of units is only recommended as a final option as it can affect the storage pool(s).
I recommend powering off the unit (press and release, hold the power if it does not shut off after 30 seconds), partially remove each of the disks, then try booting the unit with the drives disconnected.
The unit should fully boot and show an error requesting that you insert disks.  At this point you can begin to insert each disk one at a time, allow about 30 seconds for each drive to start up.  If you have multiple storage pools please insert the disks for a particular pool one at a time, then move on to the next set of disks on another pool.
If you are still unable to access the unit's web interface with no disks or the data is not accessible after the above process, please contact LenovoEMC support to see about further assistance.

  • Degraded Volumes

    Hello,
We have a LenovoEMC ix12-300r. I have 4 Raid 1 volumes. Last week we noticed that two of the volumes were listed as degraded. Once of the drives as marked as bad. But the other volume did not have a hard drive that was marked as bad. We were able to determine which one was possibly bad by the lights on the drives. Drives 3 and 4 are in a mirror. Drive 4 was not blinking in sync with the active drive 3 so we believe drive 4 was bad.
The weekend has passed and I still have the same two volumes that say "The Pool X is degraded".
    LenovoEMC™ ix12-300r
    Version:
    4.0.8.23976
    BIOS:
    R01
The event logs do not have anything regarding the degraded pools. Has anyone had this issue and was able to resolve it?

Horror show with this devices continues.  After replacing the failed HDD and restarting so it can run the rebuild I could not connect back to my iSCSI targets! Even though after the rebuild everything came up clean, mdmd /dev/dm1 confirmed that the array was insynch and clean.   I rebooted a dozen times and updated the firmware to the latest available.  But everytime my MS iSCSI went to connect to it's old targets nothing would happen.  Loaded the LenovoEMC  storage manager to see it could see the targets; which it did but would not allow me to connect to them with an error that I had used the incorrect username or password, which I never had used on the ix12-300r.   Using iscsicli to do some diag I noticed that it was seeing any available targets on the ix12s IP.  So I tried to add them through the CLI and after about 4 attempts it finally took and I was able to see two of the production iscsi targets - the other two are still ghosts; but they're backups so not as drastic a loss but still VERY annoying.
Total time; 9 hours rebuild, 4 hours reconnecting to iscsi targets.  Good thing it was a Sunday.   Final lesson; GET RID OF THIS PIECE OF CRAP!

  • Px12-350r Hitachi HUA723030ALA640 drives End of Lifed

I am trying to source some expansion drives for my px12-350r.  I am finding the only 3TB enterprise drive (HUA723030ALA640) on the approved list has been End of Lifed from the Manufacturer and as such is very hard to get ahold of.   I am told the Hitachi replacement for this drive is
    3TB HGST 0F14689 / HUS724030ALA640 - SATA HDD 3TB Ultrastar 7K4000 Enterprise SATA 6.0 Gb/s 7200rpm 64MB 3.5-in Bulk
Currently it is not on the list.   This box is only about 1 year old (for us).  I would hope there would be some approved enterprise level drive for it.
Baring that can I mix the pro-level approved 3TB Hitachi drives HDS723030ALA640, Part Number: 0F12450 in the same raid sets as the above?
They seem to meet the criteria of same size/manufacture/rotational speed.   I am currently checking on the availability of this pro-level drive now.

It is possible to use hard drives that are not on the approved drive list. As long as it is by a reputable manufacturer like the ones we use (Seagate, Western Digital, Samsung, and Hitachi) and they have the same specifications, they should work with the device. I would make sure that the firmware is up to date (Firmware Version 4.0.8.23976 for px12-350r and ix12-300r) as it adds support for some hard drives. You may need to clean the hard drive before use as well: Cleaning a hard disk for use with an ix or px network storage device. This should allow you to use the hard drive you want to, even if it is not on the approved drive list. You could also look at the list of approved drives for the px12-400r/450r for a guideline as they should work with the px12-350r too: HDDs and SSDs approved for px12-450r and px12-400r

  • Bluetoothctl successfully pairs with device but cannot connect

    Hello,
I'm trying to get my phone (nexus 4) to connect to my computer. I have bluez and bluez-utils installed. I've been able to successfully pair the device with my phone, but I can't connect to it.
    Here's some output from bluetoothctl:

I'm trying to set up my phone to send keyboard input to act as a kind of remote control for pianobar. Does anyone have an idea why this might not connect?
    -Nia
EDIT: I've looked into the problem a little bit more and it seems like it has something to do with audio. I've set the default agent to KeyboardOnly, but the error still persists. Despite this, I've tried installing pulseaudio-git, which hasn't messed anything in my system up just yet, but has done nothing to fix the problem. I also tried reverting to bluez4. bluetoothctl refused to acknowledge hci0 (my device) and wouldn't work, the bluez commands worked somewhat, bluez-simple agent works, but you need to specify hci0 before the address, this works. Any other bluez command will fail. I've reinstalled bluez since (bluez5).

My device is an IX12-300r with 4.08 firmware.  I have 4 volumes setup as iSCSI targets.  Two were the orinigal volumes on the drives that came with the device and are still accessible.  Those are working, fortunately, and still able to be connected as iSCSI targets.  I purchased 4 x 3 TB drives in December and setup two more volumes as iSCSI targets for additional resources on our servers/network.  All worked well with the new volumes/iSCSI targets until 3 weeks ago when the system was restarted.     Now, althoug all the volumes are still present, the iSCSI page on the Web UI shows only the two original volumes are iSCSI targets.  The new volumes are not present there and therefor not accessible from the Microsoft iSCSI initiator.    I've installed the Lenovo Storage Manager for Windows: Version 1.4.4.14439 to check if it could connect the other targets, but sadly no.
So I called Lenovo to see if I could get some support, knowin that it was out of warranty, and so expecting to pay per incident.  BUT that's no longer available, and they don't offer extended warranties on out of warranty products.  SO BUY an extended warranty NOW if you plan on keeping this product.  Better yet ditch it and get something that offers support beyond "I'm sorry we can't help you at all.  I suggest you call data recovery service if you want your data back".        :- P
Any idea how much it would cost to recover 4 TB of data?!?
This product is being ruined by Lenovo and their decisions to remove support options previously available.  I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND anyone using these products to think twice!   Also, I'm an IT consultant and have been steering all my clients away from ANY LENOVO products, Thinkpads, Servers, desktops, to avoid runnning into this kind of issues.  My reputation is on the line when I make recommendations to my customers and cannot possibly consider using products with this kind of support.

  • Security certificate - ix4-300d

I am using an ix4-300d with SSL enabled. In security settings there is an option to install a security certificate. What types of certificates are allowed and are there any specific configurations needed when creating the certificate?

This is the way I attempted to do it but it still did not work. I am trying this on a LenovoEMC ix12-300r
I have tried the following:Generate Cert:openssl req -new -newkey rsa:2048 -nodes -keyout naskey.pem -out nasreq.pem Upload and sign to Microsoft CADownload Base64 certCreate new file copying and pasting the contents of the singned cert and root cert called allcerts.pem merge with private keyopenssl pkcs12 -export -in allcerts.pem -inkey naskey.pem -out final.p12 -clcerts -passin pass:**** -passout pass:**** Convert to PEMopenssl pkcs12 -in final.p12 -out final.pem -passin pass:**** -passout pass:**** I successfully create and verify this certificate.  I have used this method on other (non lenovo) devices to generate certificates signed with our CA so I know this method works.   It will not accept my signed cert in a PEM format.  Is there a specific version of open SSL required?  I have tried on both 0.9.8zb and 1.0.1f.

    Al,
I don't understand your anger. In your first message
you posted that you installed OS 9 and updated it to
9.2.2. So why don't you do that again on the 700 MHz
    iMac?
I find it very amusing that somehow you see anger in my post. That is realy very funny! The reason I didn't just simply install OS 9 on the 700MHz Imac is stated in my original post. I would need a special (the original disk that came with this computer) bootable OS 9.1 disk to install 9.1 on this particular computer. However if there are retail 9.2 or greater disks available then that would work to. I own a retail version of 9.1 that I used for the 400MHz Imac. That wont work on the 700MHz Imac. So now I have to buy a another OS 9 disk. Thanks for your input. Al

  • StorCenter ix2-200 Cloud Edition 6TB disk supported?

    Hi Community,
I have a 2x1TB StorCenter ix2-200 and I would like to upgrade the disks to bigger size. I see that WD RED 4TB is supported, but I would like to buy two 6TB at same value/GB. But will it work? I know it's not officially compatible (yet), but 1,2,3,4 TB are already approved.
System says it's up-to-date on the firmware.
    Regards

It is a matter of hardware/software compatibility and limitations.
The hard drives in your Iomega ix2-200, ix4-200d, ix4-200r, px12-350r and ix12-300r can only be replaced with the specific model and capacity of drive that Iomega has qualified for each device.
Using other disks won't work, could cause operating system damage, and may void your warranty.
Here is a compatibility list and any drives 3TB or lower should work.

  • Hyper-V Virtual Machine Critical error (RAID 5)

    Hello
I have received call from my manager today from one of our site regarding hyper-v issue.
So here's the issue he stated as follows:
One of the IT technician was assigned to add 8TB HDD in a SAN just to add more storage space for our servers
So he went to the server room and boom he finished the job in minutes and started to configure RAID from his laptop like its all good as always.
few hours later users started to complain they can't get access to their staff share Drive well guess out all of the hyper _ v machine stopped working (critical error) on the server he installed those TBs, the hyper -v E drive gone missing where all the
    virtual machines were stored.
and lastly he told me they already had RAID 5 implemented on that server. To be honest I don't know much either and only possible cause of course would be the RAID which should have been taken under consideration before making such move.
I was asked to give them a hand on this tomorrow and I will, just play around with it for bit and see where I can Lead to.
Any help would be highly appreciated!

I wonder if the server has failed, it does happen rarely
I suggest gettings some lower cost NAS boxes for backups in case they are needed to repair the server
