Raid 10 showing degraded, but both raid 0's are fine.

So 4 x 1TB black caviars.
2 sets of stripped, then mirrored together to make the raid 10.
Both stripped raid sets are fully online, just the raid 1, is showing up as degraded.
There is no rebuild option in disk utililty 13.
How do I go about via the terminal getting the raid 1 (a mirror of the stripped sets) to rebuild?

Also, Apple seems to call your setup RAID 0+1.
The bad news, as always, is that it appears you cannot just tell it to rebuild. You have to tear the array apart or add new blank drives, then you can rebuild it after that.
My experience with Apple Raids (now a bit dated) was that drives that had marginal blocks requiring too many retries cause a Mirrored array to become Degraded, sometimes dumping the drive that was too slow (or sometimes not). You may want to add at least one new drive and re-Zero [write Zeroes to get spares substituted] the one you replace, then prepare to do that again when/if it Degrades again. Keep careful track of what has been done to each drive!

Sometimes the update notification comes on but updates themselves do not appear if the iOS is not appropriate for the update. For example, I have an original iPad, thus limited to iOS 5.1.1, but an app I use has an update that requires iOS 6.1.3. So I have a consistent update notification but cannot get the update. So, check your iOS and see if it is up to date.

It sounds like the Mail app on your iPad mini is showing that you have over 500 unread email messages, but your inbox is actually empty.
There are several steps I'd use to troubleshoot this situation.
First, restart your iPad to see if it clears up the symtom:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
If this doesn't correct the behavior, try removing and re-adding the affected email accounts next:
Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap the affected email account.
Tap Delete Account.
Add your account again.
If the same thing happens after re-adding the account, you may need to use the steps below to reinstall iOS. You may want to back up your iPad to iTunes before completing this step.
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

Unable to charge my MacBook but the battery and charger are fine...

Hello all...
I brought this MacBook in late 2008 as i love Apple products and had had my last one for 5 years with no problems, so i upgraded.
Before the year warranty was up the battery completely died, which worried me as my previous apples battery lasted 3 years before gradually loosing power. This one worked fine one day, the next it was dead.
Both me and my partner have a MacBook so when this one failed to charge, i had the luxery of being able to test the charger and the battery, both are fine.
His Macbook is about 5 years old now and he has never had one issue or needed to replace the battery.
Does it sound like i brought a dud?
Has anyone heard of this problem before, or know of a solution?

Basically the magsafe board is a tiny board that plugs into the logic board. The battery cord, which are the brass pins you see when you remove the battery, are the end of another cord which connects to the logic board. If it isn't the magsafe board, which btw is a fairly reliable piece of hardware, then it is the logic board because this board is what actually houses the SMC. The SMC, or System Management Controller, is what controls hardware power and cooling by taking the information from the temp sensors, the battery, magsafe and other locations and deciding what to do with that information and what it means. If the SMC is not functioning properly, then the machine will still use power when it is given to it, but routing the power correctly, ensuring the battery is charged and everything else can be faulty. The SMC is a non-removable part of the logic board, so when it fails, the only way to recover its functions are to replace the entire board.
Sadly the Genius didn't lead you astray when he told you that. A cheaper option might be a third-party battery charger from macsales.com. I don't work for them or get anything for the reference, but they do have external battery charges and conditioners for the MacBook batteries.

If they have separate iTunes accounts then you can check each account on your computer's iTunes : log into an account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it. Click on that and you should then see a list of its purchases.
If they share the same account then you can't tell, the purchase history doesn't show the device or computer that a purchase was made on.

Google and Facebook show 'This connection is untrusted'; other sites are fine. What's wrong?

Yesterday I could log into sites like Facebook, Google and others fine, and now when I try to log in to them it comes up with the following message:
'This connection is untrusted.
www.facebook.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)'
I managed to get onto other sites like BBC News and Outlook without any error messages. Strangely, Google Images comes up fine from a bookmarked link, but then goes to untrusted as soon as you search for anything. I've seen this message come up on the support site before, and have tried the following suggestions:
-Cleared the cache
-Cleared cookies (including individual page cookies)
-Deleted internet temp files
-Cleared Downloads folder in Firefox
-Opened Firefox in Safe Mode to rule out add-on problems
-Chosen 'No proxy server' in the Network options
-Reloaded the page using Ctrl-Shift-R
-Reloaded the page from a History tab when it was working (yesterday)
-Used the bookmarked link
-Typed the link in directly
-Reset Firefox
-Deleted the 'cert8' file in the Firefox folder
-Synchronised system time and date with time.windows
-Full antivirus scan on computer (which showed nothing)
-Checked web security settings in Bullguard (no interference there)
-Uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox
I managed to get Google working eventually, then the Mozilla Support pages said they were untrusted, so I'm currently posting from Chrome, which is becoming my backup browser more frequently :(

Your description sure sounds like a problem with the driver for the M-Audio Transmit. Or at the very least, it's a USB problem.
More often than I would like, the computer veils the screen and gives me the OSX version of the system bomb telling me that I must restart my computer.
Which is a kernel panic, or the OS itself crashing. USB can definitely cause this. There's often a log you can view in the Console application in your Utilities folder. Panic logs are in /Library/Logs. Look for the "panic.log". Sometimes you can look at these and figure out what the computer was doing when it crashed.
Also, you wrote "Transmit", but if you really meant "Transit", here's a page where other people are discussing problems they're having with the Transit.
Definitely make sure you have the latest drivers from M-Audio...

Hi, I have 3 email accounts on my Iphone, the 2 that are POP accounts work fine, but after the last update I quit getting my IMAP email accounts to my phone, but they still come to my Mail program fine.
Any thoughts?

No audio in calls, but games and other apps are fine?

I recently bought myself an iphone 4s, its running the latest firmware.
When i make and recieve calls.. I cant hear the person on the other line and they cant hear me... But when i use apps such as skype, the mic and speaker works fine, in games the sound works fine, when using siri the mic works fine.
Everything works as it should, its just when making and recieving calls.. any ideas? anyone heard of this happening before or experienced it?
Ive tried restoring the phone and re installing the firmware and setting up as a new phone but ive still had no luck.

RAID RS1 Degraded - How do I repair it?

Please note screen shots below.
RS1 (Bay 3, Bay 4) is showing Viable (Degraded), Bay 3 Disk is showing Degraded but has a green status light next to it in Drives List.
I can still access data (I assume from Bay 4 Disk if Bay 3 Disk is not working).
How can I repair the Raid Set using the RAID Utility if the drive is ok; or is it a case of replacing the Bay 3 Drive and allowing the Utility to rebuild the RAID Set?

Since this is a Mirrored RAID the data are still available on the remaining drive.
To rebuild the set you need to introduce a blank good drive as an available spare. You can use a new drive, or you can erase the drive that dropped out and re-introduce it as the "new" drive, ONCE. Beyond that once, you are fooling yourself and reducing the robustness of the set -- a drive that gets kicked out more than once needs to be replaced in the set and re-purposed to something less demanding.

Mirrored RAID degraded, upper slice shows "failed" but drive passes verify

I have a mid 2010 Mac Mini running Mountain Lion and Server. The Mirrored RAID is showing degraded and that the upper slice has failed. However, doing a verify of the drive does not report any problems.
Is there a way to determine if this is just a RAID management issue? I've considered rebooting into single user mode and running fsck but not sure what else it will tell me?
Is it safe for me to click on the slice that is showing "failed" and hit rebuitd? (after verifying a good back up of course). I started down this path but didn't like the warning OS X provided; it was not crystal clear which physical drive it would erease the data from.

RAID status: degraded or failed? is there help?

We are using mac os sever 10.4.3. When we recently restarted the servers we noticed that 2 drives on each of the servers has yellow warning lights showing on the moitor software but not on the actual drives themselves. We have 2 servers one a G4 and the other a G5. The G4 has 2 drives and both are registering yellow, the G5 has 4 drivers with 2 registering yellow. The monitor says the drives are "degraded" but everything seems to be transferring and backing up fine. Should we do a backup and use Disk Utility to repair the degraded/damaged drives?

You must have RAID 1 mirrored drives setup then and are running from the working disk of the mirrored pair.
Ofcourse you should fix these types of problems/failing disks.
Having recent backups is always a good thing. A RAID doesn't save you from human errors but it should prevent "downed" servers.
Your supposed to be able to repair a degraded mirror from within Disk Utility but I have only done it from the CLI (Terminal) diskutil.
If you do a : sudo diskutil checkraid
What do you get?
If the servers are updated from 10.3.x you can (if not done already) also update the RAID version from the older ver. 1 to ver. 2 available from 10.4.0-> using the command:
sudo diskutil convertraid
