Raid 5 Crash....

hello,
my production system with raid 5 crashed yesterday, and i lost all the files except archieve log files. But i have a working copy fo the all files with full data nearly 2 weeks old. is it possible to recreate the transaction during that 2weeks from the archive log files...? if yes how to do that..?

Do you have current control file or backup of control file created using alter database backup control file to trace?
If yes, you can restore all the datafiles to original location, and try to recover.

That is exactly what RAID 0 is supposed to do. It divides your data into blocks and then write the blocks alternately to each of the disks in the RAID array. So what you are seeing is exactly what you should expect to see with RAID 0.
To the best of my knowledge there is no way to return the data from the blocks back to the original data. Hence, the importance of backup with any kind of RAID most especially RAID 0.

Raid 1 Crash "disassembled"

The computer has had no problems and is well maintained: I switced the comuter on as usual, but it hung on early bootup.
The only obvious warning I get is Raid Disassembled in red letters and each disk is listed in highlighted color. Following that it begins to boot, but freezes.
I called a local technician I called said the computer was old and dead. I am not ready to bury it.

I am writing this on my emergency backup computer. It also is Raid 1 and the old dual IBM disks are at least 12 years old - no problem.
( The two external backup drives, from Western Digital and Lacie consecutively, both crashed within the pst five years. The safer I get, the more failures happen. The universe is running backwards.)

Raid Disk Crash

Hi, I have a K8N board set up with Raid 1. The unthinkable just happend, one of the disks in that mirror (I only have two) just died. I have pulled it out and now I'm clueless as to how I get the other to "stand in it's place" until I get a new disk. Surprisingly there are no info about this anywhere. Can anyone help please?
In the BIOS it just says that its "free". In Windows it isn't detected by "Disk Administration" but NVRaidMan can see it! What to do??

Sounds like the most probable reason is that you have not created a partition on that drive yet. If it the new drive does not contain a logical partion then Windows will not even acknowledge that it exists.
Use your Windows bootable disk to create a partition on the drive and then give it a whirl. Also, make sure that the drive interface is enabled in the bios.

QuickTime crashes RAID

Hello!
I've got PC with RAID (OS Vista). When I try to open JPEG or TIFF file with QuickTime Picture Viewer my computer hangs on and finally RAID is crashed. I checked Events log and found that always some error arises - Events #9, source: iaStor. I attempted to solve this problem as describe here:

Hi; i have another kind of problem using iview mediapro with Windows Vista.
When i open a jpeg file in iview (in media mode) sometimes it appears with horizontal coloured artifacts. This never happens with raw (.nef) files. As noted in this discussion, mediapro uses Quicktime Picture viewer as a plugin.
The problem is reproduced when i try to open the files directly with Picture Viewer. So my conclusion is that Quicktime Picture Viewer is not fully compatible with Vista (On XP the same procedure cause no problem).
What do you think of it?

DC on VM Restored after crash - Does Not allow PCs to Join Domain, or Domain Users to Log in

We currently had a RAID array crash and rebuilt our main server which housed VMs for our Web and DC.
The main server was restored from a bare-metal backup from 6 months prior to the latest backup of the VMs (not sure if pertinent)
Since the Restore, Domain computers cannot access file shares on the main server or VMs - "unspecified network error

Removed the main server from the Domain to re-join it due to some issues with logging in (even with a Domain Admin account) - Found that any PC removed from the domain was no longer able
to rejoin - Receive (Network path was not found error)
Domain Users cannot log in to their computers - Error reads "The trust relationship between this computer and the domain has been lost" - Domain Admin accounts can log in without
problem.
Have been working on it for two weeks and tried most of the things that I have found in others questions for related
DCDIAG results (run on DC VM) - More errors appear if run on the Server (Locator DcGetDcName(GC_Server_Required) call failed, error 1722 (same for PDC, TIME, GOOD_TIME, and KDC)

All PCs can ping the DC, and get name resolution. Checked IPs, DNS on both WS and DC (DC points to its own IP address with no other DNS), Forwarders for DNS appear to be working,
as normal DNS name resolution and internet access works on all PCs. Have tried disabling NIC card and installing another NIC. All searches keep pointing back at the same things that I have tried. I feel like I am missing something stupid.

The backup you used is too old. That is why your clients are experiencing trust relationship failures: the computer passwords are no longer matching so they are failing to connect to AD. You need to disjoin and join them again.
I understand that this is the only DC you have so please make sure that the DC is not multihomed, that it points to its private IP address as primary DNS server and 127.0.0.1 as secondary one. Also, you might need to rebuild your SYSVOL folder if you keep

RAID card in 2009 Mac Pro & EMC Retrospect 8.x: Experience

I spent the last few days in the often bizarre world of trying to figure the best way to utilize the 2009 RAID card with the newly released version 8 Retrospect from EMC (Iomega). Here's my warning: From my experience version 8 and the RAID card do not get along at all and often result in that dreaded black screen stating that you have to press the power button and restart in multiple languages, meaning the computer has crashed really badly.
But let me start from the beginning:
we recently got 2 new Western Dig RE4GP 2TB drives which were installed in slot 2 and 4 and then RAIDed together (RAID 0 I think). I then tried to backup 700GB from a Seagate ES2 drive to the new RAID volume using Retro8. After a few minutes I got the black multilanguage crash sign, forcing a manual power off. Not good. A few more similar bad experiences and I gave up on version 8 and went back to version 6.1x. This version seemed to work much better and I was able to backup the 700GB data to the RAID volume. The next test was restoring the 700GB data on the RAID volume. So I wanted to restore the data to the same RAID volume, so the computer would be reading the Retrospect dataset and then writing the data back to the same drive. Maybe not optimal in drive throughput performance but surely technical feasible (yes, ideally you would backup the data to one/another drive and then restore the data to a third target drive, in my case the RAID volume). Turns out this too is a no go. After restoring 300GB the dreaded multilanguage sign appears and again, after inspecting the error logs, it seems the RAID card has just freaked out. At this point I am getting very mad at Apple as I can hardly find any really usable information on the RAID card anywhere on the web plus making a $6k computer perform in a rather delicate way which is not the usual way I experience Macs. Questions in my mind: Do the drives need to be in adjacent slots, is there a problem with the 2 TB drives, why can't the card read and restore to the same RAID volume, why does the RAID card crash the system so badly, isthe computer being damaged by crashing like this etc. I am getting the impression that this expensive RAID card's performance is kind of flaky and there might be some software issues. Also I have a suspicion (I have no way of proving it) that the RAID card might be using more PCI bandwidth than it should thus causing other problems I won't get into here. So after this rant my questions would be:
-anybody else had any success with Retrospect 8 and the RAID card?
-might my crashes not really stem from the RAID card but from some other thing I am doing?
-any pointers on things I might be missing?
There just seems to be so little user feedback on the RAID card here or elsewhere which I think might be because relatively few people have the RAID card.
Any advice would be great.

You realize that not all disk drives are certified to work with Apple's
RAID card?
Is the ES2 also controlled by the RAID card?
Those RE4s are very very new. Does Apple or WD list them as certified to work on that card? you know, the way they often use to in the case of SCSI controllers and disk drives.

G-raid drive failed, recovered qt's get error (-199)...HELP!!!!

g-raid drive crashed and we recovered the files onto another drive, the recovered quicktimes get error (-199), i can't find anything that tells me what this means, please help.

Just got my own answer from G-Technologies. This is a Raid 0 only drive which means it cannot be used for mirroring at all. Totally not what the sales rep at Apple told me, and now it will need to be returned.

PPro CS2 "Failed to Render Frame" When exporting to WMV

I seem to keep having this problem, where as upon the end of an WMV export via adobe media encoder I am getting an export error, "failed to return a frame."
I found a solution from Adobe Knowledge Base, but the update is no longer aviable, gee thanks adobe!
I've read that a lot of people were having this problem with CS3 and CS2, but nobody really found a solution. After much reading the problem may be caused by, Multi-Thread support in CS2 or leaving blank "spaces" between clips. It's rather strange, because I never had this problem before I had to reinstall windows, and Premiere CS2 after an raid array crash.

If you can successfully export to Microsoft AVI then you can use the free Windows Media Encoder from Microsoft to make better WMV files.

Backup DPM 2012 SP1 from Recovery console

I have a problem. I have a server with Windows Server 2008 R2 and DPM 2012 SP1. Because of a recent RAID controler crash i am unable to fix this server to boot to windows. I can only get into recovery console. I see the volumes normaly! So here is a million
dolar question. How can i backup DPM databases from recovery console so that i can make a full restore when i freshly install new windows and DPM?

Hi,
only Thing you need ist MDF and LDF files from DPMDB.
Try to copy These two files.
Install your new Serve with same Name and same DPM version
Restore DB with SQL Management Studio and overwrite the new and existing one
present DPM Backupstorage to the new server
Run dpmsync -sync

Configuration:
4 RAID 0 Arrays (2 disks in each array)
Problem:
Playing Quicktime files causes a "Logical device failed", independent of the file or which array the file is located on.
Fortunately, the the device can be "Forced online" using Adaptec Storage Manager.
I, naively, thought that this would be a problem Adaptec would be concerned with, unfortunately, Adapetc claims that this is a problem with the Quicktime software. But my RAID just crashed...
I would appreciate any work around to this problem.

Rerun the BDLS again as this took very little time.
When you try to run again it popsup message saying it already exists just delete that and again put the Logical system name and run it will run that time.
May be while scheduling the job you gave for spool I am not sure why is it looking for Printer which is locked.

Optimized settings in BIOS kill array VT8237
Why dose this BIOS do this? I cant run my ram (kingston hyperx) at 2-2-5-2 T1 unless i set the BIOS to optimzed settings. when i do this one of my HDD's (2x seagate 160gig 7200.7) running in raid 0 crashs and the array gets destroyed (not all the time thou). After that i cant do anything with that one drive. I cant break the array, i cant use the VIA RAID utility to recreate the array because it freezes for a long time while talking to that drive. As soon as i put the settings back to manual in the BIOS form optimized the array is fine again. This only works if i have not accessed or tried to access the VIA raid util. If i access the util the array is gone. ?????????????????????????????????????????? what the hell is this?????

Do NOT raise FSB to more then 218mhz with SATA disks. If you do, thay are gauranteed to crash detroying all data.
My gues is that it's a phisycal limitiation to the HD's. If you feed em more data than they can handle partitions wil be corrupted.
Maybe with the Maxtor 16mb cach drive u can go a little higher.
If you wanna OC the memory, allways do it manually !

When I massively use the disks and the nexus-s is active, the system freezes...
I think this is some kind of conflict between South bridge (both Via & Promise??) and the DVB Board....

I had the same problem with this "motherboard" in Win2000 and WinXP,
the raid system crashed the system. Specialy when the dvb cards or the Lan (DSL internet) was active. But also massiv movement of files in the raid system was unable with system crashes. Also my two hauppauge dvb cards were inactivated.
Specialy my bluetooth keyboard and mouse did not work with the raid-system.
I tested it in Raid 0,1 or only as two HDs
After over four month of tetsing different drivers (old and newest) and Systems (Win89, 2000, XP) I changed my mainbard becaude nobody was able to help me.
I replaced it with the Gigabyte GA-7NNXP and after reinstallation of Windows
it works only fine. After 2 days massiv testing, I had no hang up again.
I tested the board with permanently connetction and download from the Internet, two hauppauge cards permanently working (DVB-C and DVB-S, partly with recording on both cards ant the same time onto the raid system), also loop playing of a wav-file and and a mpeg file and sometimes moving big amounts of datas (over 40 Gb in one movement severall times. Alos my Blootooth Keyboard and mouse works.
Conclusion: to buy teh MSI board was thes worst error I made. I had never a board since I built my Computers myselfe for the last 10 years. I built over 20 Systems and after a few days they all worked correctly. But this MSI board did not work after four month. A lot of money for nothing.

When game like Fallout 3, GTA IV, Dead Space or Tomb Raider Underworld crashes it just goes to desktop and display window with this message: "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if solution is available"
Sometimes when Tomb Raider crashes it goes to desktop and display message made by game with something like "Out of memory"

I tested computer with 1 of memory module in GTA IV multiplayer and it was more stable but it crashed after about 1h, but when I changed it to other module it ran for about 2,5h without crash
