Raid BIOS Gone (KT4 Ultra-BSR)

I recently bought a Serial ATA Hard Drive wanting to install it on the raid controller.  But when I went to enter the Raid Controller's BIOS FastBuild Setup (at boot-time), it never shows up.
I have the KT4 Ultra-BSR, and I can see the RAID Controller enable/disable option in the Integrated Peripherals.  I have it enabled, but it NEVER  displays the RAID bios at boot-up.  This is the second KT4 Ultra I've had and I know I saw the RAID bios on the first one I had. I have the latest system BIOS installed (1.30).
Has anyone experienced this and/or know how to fix it? Is there a way for flash the RAID controller to possibly fix it?  Did the entry to the setup change from whats in the manual (ctrl-F4)?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've seen a couple other post like yours Shark. While that makes me feel a little more comfortable that other are having similar problems, I thinks mine's a little different.  I don't ever remember seeing the RAID BIOS on this motherboard.  I've tried turning it off and on in a row to see if mine would eventuall show, but I never see it.
Does anyone from MSI read these? I think something should be done.

;( Can anyone save my sanity!
Read all about updating PC,  thought easy, I can do that. During summer fitted extra memorey 512, fitted new hard drive, then an extra one for back ups, all well so far, then at Christmas bought KT4 Ultra BSR board & AMD 2400XP. Fitted ok no probs, great.
So why can't I understand how the hell to get Raid to work. The guide is about as useful as a smack in the mouth. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get an easy to understand guide to which HDD connects where and what I do with the jumpers on each. Tried configuring  as Master and Slave on same cable to IDE 1 works Ok. Then tried same on IDE 3 only MAster shown and cannot configure raid. Please help before I trash it!

  • KT4 Ultra-BSR - Drive problems?

    Yesterday I purchased a KT4 Ultra-BSR. I am doing a clean install.
    I have an Athlon XP200+, 2 x 512MB DDR Ram (PC2100).
    On IDE1 I have put 2 x 20GB Western Digital HDs.
On IDE2 I have put a Pioneer DVR-A04 as Master, and a  100GB Western Digital HD as the Slave.
On IDE3 I want a 30GB Western Digital HD as Master, and a 40x Liteon CD-R/W as Slave.
I have installed Windows XP Pro (SP1) from new, and I have installed all of the drivers and utilities from the Drivers CD. My motherboard was shipped with BIOS Version 1.1
When I boot into Windows, I do NOT see the CD-R/W at all.
Also, the only way ro see the HD that's on IDE3 is when it's configured as an array (even though there's only one HD).
I would have preferred to have two HD's on IDE3 but NOT with any form of RAID configuration - is there a way of doing this?
    Many thanks

I did it the simple way: Used Fujitsu-Siemens' Plugfree setup instead of the incredibly buggy MSI drivers. Then it worked perfectly with my PocketLoox and Ericsson T39. The hardware is the same. But still the range stinks (max 20 feet on my system), so I bought a full WLan setup instead.

You've misunderstood my problem.  I have the MSI KT4 Ultra-BSR motherboard which has a bluetooth module which needs to be connected to the motherboard, however, I don't know how to connect it (PHYSICALLY).
Therefore I need someone with the same board to tell me how they did it.

  • KT4-Ultra-BSR Video problem

My PC was running fine. I have the KT4 Ultra BSR with XP2200+. I WAS running a TNT2/Riva 32MB GFX Card, and all was OK. I then bought a new graphics card - a 64MB Triplex Xabre-Pro (AGP 8X). I installed the card, but with it installed, the PC would not even attempt boot.
I took the card out and put my old TNT back in, and the PC worked OK.
I tried the jumper settings on the Triplex card, but it still failed to boot.
NOW the PC won't boot - even with the TNT card in, BUT it will boot WITHOUT a gfx card (although it gives the customary beeps).
What am I doing wrong here?

OK, well it IS a 3.3V and 5V PSU.
I have tried booting withou the NIC installed, and it made no odds.
    I have cleared the CMOS
I didn't remove the TNT drivers, but I don't feel like that's the problem since the machine does not power up.
I have tried a combined 300W 3.3V / 5V PSU that was in the machine before the gold PSU and it doesn't power on with that one in either.
On BOTH PSU's the machine WILL boot without either of my 2 graphics cards in it, but will not boot with either of them (whereas it did at least boot with the TNT before)

  • MSI KT4 ULTRA BSR QUESTIONS

I just bought new stuff for my computer
     kt4 Ultra bsr
     AOPEN Geforce ti4200 128mb DVI
2200 XP CPU (IN A BOX)
     256 ddram 333mhz
so i began rebuilding my computer,
first thing i did was moving the CLEAR CMOS to the right position (by the manual) then it wouldn´t boot, no lights, no fan movement, so i found out later  on the internet that it was wrong, so i put the jumper in the other position as shown in the internet.
But when i start up the computer now it only shows
    1500 XP 1350 mhz, should be 2200 xp - 1800mhz i think.
but it won´t start with the fsb at 133 mhz. what can i do ????
    i have calculated the 5v * 30a + 3.3v * 14 = 196w (dont know what that mean hehe)
i just dont know what´s wrong huff plz anyone help ?

    Hi,
unable to run FSB at 133Mhz is either two problem or both:
    1. CPU Heatsink did not install properly, thermal grease applied wrongly
    2. Power supply does not have enough power
    Check both of them.
Your power supply is very weak for today's system. Please consider an upgrade. But don't blindly go for the bigger numbers -- 450W, 550W, survey more to know about the quality of the power supply, especially the +3.3V and +5V rails, which both should supply similar amount of current, ie +3.3V @ 35A, +5V @ 36A for a good 400W. For more insurance, go for the well known brand. But usually they cost more.

  • KT4 Ultra-BSR Blue Screening

    Hi All
I have a KT4 Ultra-BSR (MS-6590) that I bought way back in 2002. I haven't used it a hell of a lot, it was used intermittantly up to early last year, when it became my desktop baord, so it has seen a lot of use in the last year.
It has started blue screening recently, at first maybe once a week, but now it's several times a day.
I've replaced the PSU with a decent brand 700W one, even though the previous one was a decent brand 650W. This has not helped. I've stripped everything out, and ran it barebones, and this didn't make a difference. I then swapped the graphics card, memory and HDD (Leaving it barebones) and rebuilt the OS, and still no change.
I've inspected the caps around the voltage regulator circuit, they seem to be OK, with no visible bulging or leaking, but absence of these symptoms are not proof positive that they aren't the dodgy ones. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with thses boards?

Tell us what parts you have in the system.  Use the description of my systems as a guide to what we need to know.
Run memtest86 on one stick of memory at a time to check your memory.  Run at least 5 passes on each stick and let us know the results.

  • KT4 Ultra-BSR

    Hi to everyone,
I'm lookin at getting the new MSI Ultra-BSR Mobo but I'm not sure about 2 things.
    - First, does it support Raid on the regular IDE port for the HDD. I know it does on the S-ATA ones but for now, I've got 2 regular Parallel ATA HDs, and if it does'nt, can I get an adaptor to plug the IDE drives on the S-ATA connectors ???
    - Second, I'm lookin also at putting a XP 2600+ on that board but I don't see anywhere if I can step system bus at 166 Mhz to drive the XP 2600 at 2.13 Ghz. I did see on one site that there would eventually but didn't have the jumpers yet !!!
Can anybody help me out with those 2 questions ???
Thanks a lot and hope to hear from you soon

KT4 is certified to support 166Mhz FSB Athlon XP 2600/2800. Don't worry about that.
Thanks you for your insight. I've been reading a lot the last two days and I'm not sure if I should give the VIA KT400 chipset a try yet. Seems it's not that great after all (speed wise at least) and that we should wait for the second release to come out (apparently soon).
What do you think about that ?
Appreciate your point of vues, thanks again

  • Follow up to 1.3 BIOS on KT4 Ultra

    Cured my two problems
    1) Extra mouse pointer in games
    2) Stuttering in games
    How?
By going back to BIOS 1.2
Can only assume that BIOS 1.3 was rushed out without sufficient testing. It MAY fix IDE transfer problems, but on my system which is SCSI anyway it introduced the two problems above.
Definately starting to wonder if I should go back to Abit, this is my first MSI board, and probably my last, the way things are going.
    KT4 Ultra
    XP2600+ 333fsb
512mb Corsair XMS DDR 400 running at 333
    Adaptec U160 SCSI
    SB Audigy

BIOS 1.25 is a BETA BIOS, meaning it's unsupported by MSI. AFAIK, it might fix the Optical mouse LED stays ON even PC has powered off.
For those have PS/2 Optical mouse, please test this beta BIOS against this issue.

  • KT4 Ultra-BSR multipler & CPU volts on XP2400 dont work!

Well after several atempts and clearing the cmos several times the multipler dosnt work on XP2400 and when you go to change the cpu voltage from auto it comes up with strange symbols not a voltage to select! so iam stuck at 141fsb and CPU voltage set to auto i can change the FSB only except lower or to 141, why is it asus and epox can change the multipler and we cant on our MSI KT4 Ultra, iam disapointed and who wouldnt be after all others can change there multipler!
any surgestions would be welcome and i think MSI should address this problem with a bios update and also look at the voltages for CPU as symbols mean nothing to me! ?(

Oops, I meant how did you connect the module to the motherboard??  I can't find anyway in which to connect it directly into the mobo, and I didn't get a cable with mine.  (I still haven't got to the software side of it yet - the hardware has been my prob for the past few weeks, no-one seems to be able to answer me).
Hope you can tell me how to do it (pref with some pics or something coz I'm starting to think my retailer sent me the wrong board).

  • RAID-Exsisting HDD- KT4 Ultra

I am trying to connect two identical HDD to my RAID serial ports. I have loaded the drivers in Windows XP. They show up with the code 10 in device manager. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing. The RAID bios is not showing up in the POST so I cannot set an array. I now am connect with the new drive to RAID 2 and the system drive to IDE 1. I want to connect both to RAID and set for Array 1- Protection. I have read a lot on RAID here but all seem to be new installations. I have the lastest RAID drivers and Bios.

I'm glad to hear that your problem is solved, consider yourself lucky!!!!  I tried what you did and unfortunately it didn't work for me  ;( :
After getting the critical error during initial array creation, I continued to boot but no RAID entry appeared as a choice in the BIOS boot sequence.
However, W2k seemed to find the array anyway and tried to boot.  After the graphical Win 2000 start screen it blue screened with a message like STOP IRQ not less than or equal.  It said if this was the first time this screen has shown, restart the computer.
After restarting the computer is blue screened again, this time with the message STOP Unknown Hard error
After this I tried restarting again, entering FastBuild, and attempting to rebuild the array.  During array rebuild, it failed giving the same critical error, with the source (Windows) drive.
Was your critical error with the Windows (source) drive, or the new one?  How do you have your array partitioned and what filesystem(s) are you using?  I have one 7GB primary partition and the remainder on an extended partition, both NTFS.
    Thanks,
    Danny
