Raid Conflict

First of all I apologize for my bad english (it’s not my natural language):(
Here is my problem
My configuration:
MSI 875p FIS2R rev.1.0 bios 2.4
Raid 0 2xSeagate 160Gb Intel sata raid
Raid 1 2xWd 120 Gb     Promise sata raid
P4 3.0 Ghz, 1 Gb ram, AIW 9600Pro, soundblaster live 5.1, two external disks in two external storage boxes  USB to IDE, Maxtor 40 Gb and WD 250 Gb for backup purpose, PSU Enermax 360 W
Windows Xp firstly installed on Intel raid abot year or so
Recently I bouth two HDD wd and try to install Win xp on them. I disabled intel raid during installation and after install I enabled, but the Windows Xp from wd disks didn’t boot and I get this message:
„Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.
Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.“
I try to edit boot.ini on many way’s and ended up the same.
The only way to boot winxp from WD disks is ti disabled the intel raid, but I don’t want that of course :(
Win xp on intel raid boot two or tree minutes longer when is the promise raid is enabled
Helpfull tips:
First when I buy WD disks I put them in array not in raid and install win xp on one of them, and everything works fine in both way either try to boot from intel sata raid or from wd disk.In that time I have bios version 2.3, When the bios ver. 2.4 is up I fleshed from net and get the problem. I try to solve it on but not succsesfully. Then I put the wd disks in raid array and .....
I would be gratefull for any help

ok, i've changed the ide cable - i tried 2 brand new ones that work in other pc's.
This is the situation. I have tried all the bios's from v1.9 to v2.4
I have tried using the all original drivers off the CD and also all the latest ones from the MSI website.
I have tried re-installing this pc with just standard Windows XP, then SP1, then SP2
The problem i have, wish never used to happen, is if i cannot any IDE Hard Disk to either the Intel or Promise IDE controllers my Windows XP locks any file on any Hard Disk if i select or read a file. If i try and modify, move or delete that file XP tells me the file is in use by another person or program.
This is not a software issue or conflict as i have had the same setup working for nearly a year now and this problem only came about after i setup a raid1 on the promise controller using 2 x ide disks to accompany the 2 x sata disks i have as raid1 on the intel controller.
When i re-installed i didn't install any programs, not even any drivers to start with and then i tried drivers off the cd. Each time i tried newer drivers or bios's i completely formatted the system and did a clean install.
I have tried absolutely everything i can think of.
Would you agree that i should RMA this board?
There is definately a fault with the IDE functionality here...

  • SATA RAID conflics with POMISE T3 RAID Bios

I've read quite a few of the RAID setup issues concerning the "Extra" RAID settings under "integrated peripherals" for the K9A2 Platinum. My problem seems to be a bit unique. I can't get both the SATA RAID and the Promise "Fast Track" to work together. If I enable the Extra RAID Controllers the Fastrack Bios does not recognize my SATA RAID.
This simply means that for some reason the motherboard SATA RAID conflicts or disables the PROMISE RAID Bios and vice versa. So I have not been able to activate my eSATA ports or use anything connected to the SATA5-6 ports without going into the CMOS and setting SATA DEVICES to IDE and then turning on the EXTRA Raid Controller under "Integrated Peripherals" in the CMOS. Unless I'm wrong. I am almost sure that this scenario is right.
The second issue is that I cannot get my ram to go in DUAL CHANNEL  mode. But I will post that issue another time.
    thx

With Vista Ultimate SP1 on my machine the USB Flasher Tool kept on crashing when the BIOS was at v 1.2 on the KA92 mainboard.
The DOS window came up fine but it appeared that every susequent module that was brought up for detecting the motherboard caught some kind of conlfict and terminated causing Vista to summon the program terminated message box. Eventually the dos prompt would state that it could not detect the motherboard and close. All in red text. This happened only when I flashed the BIOS with v1.2. I wanted to go back to 1.3 just to verify that the BIOS version was the cause and the only reason I got back to 1.3 or 1.4 easily was becaus it was backed up by the tool so all I had to do was rename the backup.bin file(s). Again everything went as expected with the USB Flasher Tool until I loaded the v1.2 BIOS. It could not even detect the mainboard.
The only reason I didn't need the tool anymore was that it backed up the versions of the bios for each time that I had flashed the bios previously.

  • RAID Admin vs Quicktime conflict

Folks: I too have the problem that on a machine where I'd like to install RAID Admin it won't launch. Apparently due to conflict with QT (according to several threads here). So, it's recommended to use a QT 7.0.1 reinstaller. OK, got that... says it can't install because this machine doesn't have appropriate version of QT (turns out it has QT 7.1).
This is getting exasperating -- does anybody know how to just get this &^%$# RAID Admin to actually run on recently updated machine? (I know about digging into the app package file to find the RAID_Admin.jar file and then use jar launcher... what a hassle... surely there has to be a better way).
    Thanks, Graham

Using FireFox v1.5.0.11 I had no problems viewing that site.

  • Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 - AJA IO HD conflict

Hi, I just got a problem opening Final Cut Pro. FCP can not open and send always the same message: "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected."
It seems, in the report (see below), that the conflict is with AJA IO HD. I already tried to:
    - restart the computer
    - unplug the AJA
    - change the firewire cable
    - trash FCP preferences
    - uninstall AJA software
    - update AJA software
    - run the AJA conflict checker
But none of these worked out.
When I unplug the AJA, Final cut runs without problem.
I have this problem for 2 days and the only change I made on the computer this day was installing a new software: Shake 4.1. Is there any possibility that Shake could be the reason of this conflict?
    Thanks in advance.
    Nuno

what else is on the firewire chain. I/O HD needs the entire bus for itself. If you have any other firewire devices get a firewire card for your machine and keep the i/o HD on that.
if you have no firewire contentions and you've repaired permissions and your running the latest drivers, contact AJA tech support. They are well known for their ability

  • Itunes on Windows Vista with SATA Intel Raid Matrix, BLUE SCREEN!

If I wasn't an IT Administrator this problem could've really upset me. I might have perceived your software crashed my hard drives. At least I had the knowledge to know how to re-detect my raid array and get things going; but for a moment i was worried too.
Issue: I have the known problem between APPLE's QUICKTIME and how it negates disk issues with Windows Vista; specifically for those using a RAID ARRAY.
Immediately upon loading the itunes or quicktime program, I lock-up. I sometimes get a bluescreen sometimes it just locks up. I always get a warning about my RAID array when this happens; either having to power down and re-detect the members of the array or the manager says bad disk/write to one of the members.
I must power down and power-up to regain function to my computer.
Intel says this is an apple problem and this doesn't shock me; because Itunes/Quicktime has some interesting disk stuff.
    Hello Jeffrey,
Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support.
We have seen this; however, the root cause of the issue is not our RAID controller or its driver. You need to contact the application developer for additional information and troubleshooting assistance.
*Please contact Apple* for technical assistance.*
    Sincerely,
    Carlos B.

I must powerdown and power-up to regain function to my computer. All the message boards say install the latest version. The latest version is not supported by my chipset, so I'm stuck at version 7.

I sent some inquiry to Intel regarding my RAID array and apples software. I hope apple considers their windows customers diligently; otherwise they will start to make the same arrogant mistakes other companies have made; like Microsoft.

    Hey Jeffrey,
I would just like to report that I am NOT experiencing the problem you describe. With my configuration (some details below) I can play video podcasts and listen to music in iTunes; I do not get a blue screen. My only issue is choppiness in the video playback (occasional frames dropped / occasional lack of synchronization between audio & video).
    - Intel D945GPM Desktop Board (945G chipset)
    - Pentium 4 D920 CPU (2.8 GHz dual core)
    - Intel Matrix Storage Manager (IMSM) 7.8.0.1012 (November 2007 version)
    -> RAID 10 Array over 4 x 250 GB Seagate SATA/300 drives
    - iTunes 7.5
    - ATI Radeon X1300 Video Adapter
In reviewing your post I am unclear as to what motherboard / chipset you have; you've just shown the model number of the I/O controller (I believe). However, based on that number I believe you're probably running on a motherboard/chipset that has been de-supported by Intel. Hence, you're precluded from using the most recent versions of IMSM. (I have an older machine that has the Intel 875P chipset; I'm stuck running IMSM 5.5.0.1035 on it...)
Newer versions of IMSM support newer features in the latest chipsets and abandon older chipsets; I'm kind of sore at Intel with how quickly the obsoleted my older machine (I think it's only 4 years old).
Anyway, if there is a conflict between iTunes & IMSM, you're probably stuck trying to get it fixed from the Intel side of things. It's probably a flaw in iTunes - complex software - not running in the native Apple environment.

  • Interesting problem with RAID, Windows 2008 server, and Ubuntu

sooooo, i got the system working and linux loved it.  just adored it.
however, Windows did not.  Windwos 2008 server hard locks from time to time.  i fianlly figured out that it had to do with the RAID 0 i was running, that didn't really succeed.
However, when i rebuilt the RAID and everything on it, it refuses to recognize the disk, sayign that windwos cannot determine if this drive has a valid system volume on it.
Ubuntu 9.04 server, however, just took it and made it work great.
I enabled the PCI Bus SATA to be Master in the BIOS, and then Windows Server 2008 said that it could not determine if the drive was bootable.  Then i went back and redid the raid, and it did the original error.
I inserted a windows xp disk, destroyed the RAID, and then installed the software on a NEW disk.   While it installed fine, it gave me an IRQL_not_less_than_or_equal error.  It boots in safe mode, but no where else.  I tried installing the NVRAID and MCP55 drivers in safemode and what not, but still, it refused to cooperate.  I went back to ubuntu, this time the desktop/workstation versions, and i am doing an alternate install with RAID...much to my disappointment becuase now i will have to use VirtualBox to isntall windows...and if that fails, i'll be really pissed.
    My settings are as follows:
    SATA Controller 0-5 enabled
    NVRAID- enabled
PCI BUS SATA- Option ROM Enabled, Master Enabled, and 0040h latency
    MAC LAN- same as above
MAC LAN1- has master disabled, but the other stuff is the same
Serial port A is on AUTO, B is disabled, and floppy is disabled.
    Option Rom is PFA relocation.
Also, my AEC A6880 is giving me a ROM expansion error, even though, in both OSes it can be seen....usualy.  I just want to fix it
lastly, my LSI PCI-E scsi adapter is not being seen at ALL.
    thanks guys.

What's the BSOD error? Are you using XP installation disk with included SP3?

  • NVidia RAID using existing drives?

    Hi folks --
Just installed WinXP x64 (build 1218). I've been using an Adaptec 1200A RAID controller with 2 200GB Maxtor PATA133 drives in a RAID1 config.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no 64-bit driver available for that controller card (I've checked Adaptec, planetAMD64, various other places). So the question is: can I set up these drives as RAID1 on the nVidia built-in controller without losing data? These are not bootable drives -- storage only.
The MSI mobo booklet explains a "Rebuild Array" option, where if one of the drives in the array fails, the data on the remaining drive can be mirrored to a new one. Will that work if the source drive was not part of an nVidia array to start with?
I can't afford to lose that data, and I have no place to back it up (without buying another drive). So don't even wanna risk it without some guidance!
One possible complication: the system also includes a Promise Tx ATA133 controller, which is controlling the boot drive (Win64 included a 64-bit driver for this). There is no conflict under Win2k, however.
Anyone have some savvy on this? Or know where to get a 64-bit controller for the Adaptec card?
    Thanks!
    SYSTEM:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    AMD64 3500+
    1 GB Crucial PC3200 DDR
    Dual boot: Win2k, WinXPx64
    Promise Tx ATA133 IDE controller
    ATI 9800 XT
    Soundblaster Audigy2
PS: All the rest of this system is working fine, so if anyone is having probs with a similar setup, I'd be happy to help.

Earlier posts on this site,  may be in the sata/raid  sticky , that the only time a raid can be remade is when using the same controller. Doubt very much that Adaptec & Nvidia raid components are interchangable
i know to my cost on previous rigs that even changing a raid driver has caused the loss of data.
creating a new raid destroys any data on the target drives.
rebuild only applies to drives in an existing array created  i would guess with the same controller.
Chances also are that any 64 adaptec drivers will only be beta and your raid may be at risk changing to these from existing drivers.
my advise has to be if u cant back it up dont do it

  • Install device conflict for Solaris 9 on V60X

    Can anyone help
Getting the following message when installing Solaris 9 on v60x using raid 1 ...
Warning: Resource Conflict - both devices are added
    NON-ACPI device: ISY0050
    Port:3F0-3F5, 3F7, IRQ: 6; DMA: 2
    ACPI device: ISY0050
    Port:3F2-3F3, 3F4-3F5, 3F7; IRQ: 6; DMA: 2

Cool, so i ignore the device conflict warning message and carry on, it gets thru the webstart dialogs to the welcome wizard, display a progress bar which get to 25% and then the wizard disapears, I click 'send kiosk to background', but the wizard has vanished, maybe it went of the visible screen area?
What i have achived tho is to stripe the disk for raid-1 and re-install the service partition, and the partial webstart intall as above.
My problem however is that it wont boot up, giving message
'no bootable partition'. The webstart doco says it creates the required fdisk partitions etc
There is a note in the 'solaris 9 install guide' that says ...
'if you restored the service partition before starting the install, you might not be able to upgrade to the Sun OE' .
Thanks for that Sun. Any ideas guys, perhaps its only a warning message.

  • Can I daisy-chain a G-RAID Pro 2TB with a bunch of other G-RAID's?

    Hey there,
I'm wondering if there would be any issues adding a G-RAID Pro into my current daisy-chained G-RAID configuration.
    - I've got seven 500GB G-RAID's all daisy-chained together and running into my G5.
    - Two of my 500GB G-RAID's are RAIDed together so the first one is connected to the onboard Firewire 800 port of my G5 and the other to my additional Firewire PCI card.
    - The remaining 5 drives are daisy-chained into the drive that is connected to the onboard FW 800.
This hasn't posed a problem thus far, but I'm wondering if adding a whole new G-RAID Pro is possible with this configuration, or if there's anything I should know before I decide. I left a message for the tech department at G-Tech but they're so busy over there I figured I check in here.
I'm thinking about getting the G-RAID Pro 2 TB because I have 2 projects coming up for which I'll need a whole lot more space than I currently have. If anybody has any other hard drive suggestions I'd be open to them as well, of course.
Thanks a lot for any thoughts,
    Joni

Jerry, did you see my post the other day? I don't know if there is a conflict or not, but I've had some serious firewire problems for the last year and just last weekend I was unable to access any media files that were on a lacie for a specific project. And when I tried to copy the files (after closing fcp and running diskwarrior on the drive), I kept getting error messages. When I came in the next day and started the system with the graids disconnected, the lacie performed perfectly. Seems like there might be some sort of conflict. Or just a weird one time occurence. But since I've been having all sorts of weird inconsistent problems with firewire drives and I did have a mixture of lacie and gtech drives my instinct says it might be the source of the problem. I just installed a burly 5 bay sata enclosure, so my need for firewire drives, except for sneakernet, is over.
I post this kind of stuff with the hope that if someone is experiencing weird firewire behavior, they can try to eliminate at least this possible cause.

  • Migrating Software RAID 1 ?!

Hello all, i just installed my new SSD on which i'm doing a fresh install of my OS, although have now run into an issue with regaining the software raid 1 i had setup on 2 external drives with the old OS. Can i possibly migrate this raid 1 to the fresh OS??the drives are not coming up at all at the moment but if i boot the old OS disk they appear as normal.
    any help would be great
    thanks

Did a bit more research, SCSI and storage use to be my hobby, and Mac Pro my passion. So I tried to dig into this further. SSD is very popular and people want to have 2 x SSDs along with 3-4 traditional mechanical hard drives. I just don't see going with an external type solution.
    Short answer: ain't gonna boot.
You want a mirror - that should be fine.
I was not familiar at all with one item, but I advise people to not put USB/FW cases on SATA controllers, too many problems and issues.

Is the controller one of the very few that are bootable? most are not.
To be bootable, the card would have to have Mac EFI firmware. Also, the EFI ROM version can "interfere" with support for cards and being bootable.
There are always drivers and firmware when it comes to booting. It is suppose to be "driver-less." translation: built into OS X 10.5.x and later.
NewerTech use Marvell chipset. I can say their 6G chipset which you can google and see who else uses them. I just picked up Marvell based 6G 2-port. The ideal would be to boot off the two SSDs, and yes it would help to have a PCIe with internal ports, then use them in stripe RAID, not mirror (you can backup the OS and have a clone on external FW800; on sparse disk image of 100GB; on a small internal drive even), and when it changes.

  • Systemd-fsck complains that my hardware raid is in use and fail init

    Hi all,
I have a hardware raid of two sdd drives. It seems to be properly recongnized everywhere and I can mount it manually and use it without any problem. The issue is that when I add it to the /etc/fstab My system do not start anymore cleanly.

Hi Hatter, I'm a little confused about your statement not to use raid right now. I'm new to the Mac, awaiting the imminent delivery of my first Mac Pro Quad core with 1tb RAID10 setup. As far as I know, it's software raid, not the raid card (pricey!). My past understanding about raid10 on any system is that it offers you the best combination for speed and safety (backups) since the drives are a striped and mirrored, one drive dies, quick replacement and you're up and running a ton quicker than if you had gone RAID5 (20 mins writes per 5G data?)Or were you suggesting not to do raid with the raid card..?
I do plan to use an external drive for archival backups of settings, setups etc, because as we all know, if the best fool proof plans can be kicked in the knees by Murhpy.
My rig is destined to be my video editing machine so the combo of Quad core, 4G+ memory and Raid10 should make this quite the machine.. but I'm curious why you wouldn't suggest raid..
And if you could explain this one: I see in the forums a lot of people are running Bootcamp Parralels(sp) which I assume is what you use to run mulitple OS on your Mac systems so that you can run MacOS and Windblows on the same machine.. but why is everyone leaning towards Vista when thems of us on Windblows are trying to avoid it like the plague? I've already dumped Vista from two PCs and installed XP for a quicker less bloated PC. Is vista the only MSOS that will co-exist with Mac systems? Just curious..
    Thanks in advance.. Good Holidays

  • Cannot boot with Perc /2 raid controller

    I have just built a system with K7D + 2 2400 MP, and the system hangs when I try to boot with my Perc/2 raid controller in. I have stripped down to just the following components;
    2 2400 MP
    Perc 2
    1GB ECC ram
    Sapphire ATI Radeon 9000
When I try to boot the machine it gets as far as trying to load the Perc /2 Bios and hangs.
The Perc works fine in my old system Tyan Tiger 133 with dual 733 PIII, it also seems to boot up fine in a Tyan Tiger S2460.
Any ideas on the cause or a work around?
    Thanks.

Yeah, all the firmware & bios is up to date, have stripped things down to just the motherboard, graphics card & Perc. Tried PCI graphics to elliminate any conflicts there. I have disabled all the on-board controllers too.

  • K8N DIAMOND: New Raid array and old HD... I'm going crazy!!! Please

    Hi guys
First, sorry for my poor english...
    My problem is:
I bought two Raptor 36 Gb for my new raid array.
I have my old HD Hitachi 250 Gb connected on sata 1.
I connected my two raptor, on sata 3 and 4, I enabled all sata port and raid config for ports 3 and 4.
I restart PC, typed F10 and set a stripe array with two raptor. All run ok...
Restarted and boot with my copy of WinXP with SP2 and NF4 raid drivers.
    Installation found my array and my Hitachi;
    Hitachi with 4 partitions; C (os), D (driver), E (films), F (music)
I create one partitions on my raid array, and it takes I: letter... So I formatted and start to copy os...
Errors occurs when, restarting pc and resetting the boot to Hard disk (the order of booting is 1 - nvidia array, 2 - hitachi 250 gb), just before loading installation, It shows a black screen with an error: "there is an error in your hard disk bla bla bla.. try to control your connection or connect to windows help....bla bla..."
The Raid array works properly, infact I try to disconnect my Hitachi from sata port 1 and all installation works (I'm writing from Win xp on the raid array).
I tried to connect the hitachi on port 1 of silicon image controller.... same error..!!
I'm desperate... I have all my life on my hitachi...
I think that there's  a sort of conflict in drive letter assignement... I cant find a solution ..
    PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Glad it worked, I had a feeling it would.

One question for you.. on G: partition, there's a directory called "Windows", do you suggest me to format this partition??
You can format it if you want to free up space, but unless you moved things around the My documents folder and everything in it is on that partition, along with anything you might of had on the old desktop during that Windows install.  You might have something you want there, I usually leave mine for a few month, and figure out if I have everything I need.
    Quote
What I  have to do, if I need to reinstall WIn XP on first partition of raptor array??
Things should be fine now as Windows marked the Hitachi drive as G. You should be able to reinstall without issue. But if you have a lot of sensitive info on the Hitachi, I would always disconnect the Hitachi if doing a fresh install.  Once windows is done installing, hook it back up.  But next time you shouldn't have to reconfigure NVRAID after disconnecting and reconnecting.

  • SB600 RAID 0 on SATA 1 & 2 with a DVD SATA on SATA 4?

Can I have my 2 HD's connected to SATA 1 & 2 (SB600) in a RAID 0 config and also have my DVD on the SB600 (say on SATA 4)?  When I try, I no longer see the DVD reported and can't make it a boot device (which I need).
Based on some reviews, it looked like the SB600 had better performance than the Promise did, so I wanted to connect the RAID there - has anyone else had similar or different experiences?
If I can't have the DVD on the SB600 at the same time as RAID, can I put it on the Promise?  I tried and didn't see it as a boot option when I had it there either.  Do I have to get an IDE DVD?
Also - are these "software" RAID?  How much faster is RAID 0 on this HW compared to just IDE? Or AHCI?  I've seen bad comments on AHCI - anyone here have recommendations regarding that?
    Thanks!

That is not the fact! There is something wrong with: MSI motherboard, or on-board RAID controller, or drivers
HD in RAID have to configure, but the DVD in SATA 3 or 4 not. Controller know the difference between SATA optical drives and HD-s. And everything should work like a charm.
I managed to install Windows XP x64 on MSI K9AG Neo2-Digital. Everything works well. But when I have installed my Palit GF8800GT Sonic on PCI-E port my DVD disappear. OK, there is conflict! OK. I have tryout to install Vista x64/x32. And I cannot see my optical drive :( On BIOS there is not the Plug and Ply OS setting to set NO, and then manually set the IRQ-s. Whatever I do in BIOS with IRQ-s nothing happend. Vista OS do the job alone :(

Light on slot is red but in raid admin its says in event log that disk 2 is online, but when I select the drive to check info on that drive it says disk not installed. If I use the rebuild parity data function will it only rebuild the data from the 3 disks?
    will disk 2 be recognized?
It seems I am getting conflicting info from raid admin and indicator lights on disk slot. I took the drive back out checked connections and rebooted the xraid.
I thought the array would rebuild itself when the new drive was inserted, am I missing something?
    Thanks

Sometimes you have to go into the RAID utilities and use "make drive available" option.
