RAID perfomance problem

Hi! I'm using 2xWestern digital 80GB ATA100 7.2k rpm 8mb on raid 0. I'm using a modified BIOS to set the strip size at 16kb.
The problem: perfomance.Sandra2003 scores 30000KB/s   X(  (my brother on a plain ata controller scores the same on a single 120GB unit). Persons who I've met get 42000  ;(
Also the NTFS cluster size is currently at 32kb. Before it was at 4 kb but the scores didn't change.
I'm using the downloaded drivers from live update.
What do you think I should do?
Can I change the strip size without loosing all the data on the drives? (I would have to delete the array and setup it again).

Reinstalling windows and all the programs I have now would take an entire day
I've installed both VIA patches. She uses a 32kb strip size and 64kb cluster size (that is very agressive since i'd lost 2GB).
Do you know if there is a recent driver from promise (not from msi),and where do I download? (on the promise support site I don't know which model should I choose).

  • Fetching materials on basis of Division creating perfomance problem

    Hi Experts,
i am fetching Data from three table like
    select a~matnr a~extwg
    b~charg b~werks b~clabs b~cspem b~cinsm
    c~vfdat
from mara as a join mchb as b
    on a~matnr = b~matnr join mch1 as c on b~matnr = c~matnr  and b~charg = c~charg
    into table  itab_main
    where  a~spart = p_spart and b~werks = p_werks
    and b~lgort = 'FG01' .
    it is creating perfomance problem
so my questin is 'is there any index table for mara ?(like vrpma for vbak)'
so we can get all the material on base of division fast.

    Hi Alpesh,
How about throwing MARC into the mix. I notice that you are searching with plant, storage location and division. Table MARC has an index on plant named WRK.
If you join MARA and MARC to first determine all the materials that qualify for the given plant and division combination, you can access table MCHB with material (MARA-MATNR), plant (MARC-WERKS) and storage location (FG01) i.e. the first 4 fields in the primary key of table MCHB.
I could not test this theory out because in our system we do not have any data in table MCHB. Your select executes quickly on my system.
Please let me know how this panned out.

  • Raid 0 problem 890gxm-G65

Hello, I've been trying things with my pc for hours but I still don't know what is going wrong.
    -I've 2 identical hdd's in sata slots
-I didn't get any option to ctrl + f, so i downloaded: (32 bit) ATI SB7xx/SB8xx RAID Driver from msi
-I put the drivers on my USB stick, booted from it and it installed?? (to where?) a program: raid option rom version 3.2.1540.6 (i downloaded the 32 bit version... my guess now that my usb flashed the bios for raid drivers? but I flashed the wrong bit version, I want to use 64 bit. though it seems strange to me that drivers in Bios are 32 / 64 bit related? since bios flash downloads aren't.)
-I put the 64 bit ATI SB7xx/SB8xx RAID Driver on my USB stick to see if it installed automatically, to bad... it didn't it says (find another boot device or something like that)
-I made an LD works all fine, it says Functional 1.999 TB or something.
-Booting windows installation, can't find the logical drive array, I think: ''no problem I have the drivers.''
-Installed the driver (load driver option) that came with ATI SB7xx/SB8xx RAID Driver [AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller (D:\ahcix64s.inf) (x64), but still no recognition.
Is all this going wrong due to a wrong bios update? Or whatever I did with the 32 bit?? Driver software that made the raid array?
My option in the bios AHCI/RAID/IDE = Raid
    Raid chip = enabled
While losing my mind hehe, I thought the software should be stored in the bios, with formatted harddisks where else could they be? So I
-flashed the bios to version 1.9 with a fat32 flash function in the bios (n-flash i think)
but I still have that stupid ''raid option rom version 3.2.1540.6'' (32 bit download) Which I expect is the problem here, but I'm raid noob lol.
-Windows does recognize my harddrives when I do IDE instead of RAID in bios.
Questions: Why doesn't Windows 7 recognize my raid array after installing 64 bit raid drivers? Is it due to wrong bios software [raid option rom version 3.2.1540.6]? How can I fix this?
I'm totally lost please help me...
    Greetings,
    Sten

    Ok,
So if the 64bit driver I linked is seen during your windows install and at that time correctly accepted, as w7 continues its install till its complete, I don't understand why there is a 32 bit pop up.
That is why I suggested starting over being you did install at some point a 32 bit driver.
Does your msi resource CD have a raid driver on it?
When I did my msi raid, I installed my raid driver from msi's site during install and after I was in windows I needed to complete it by installing a raid driver off the CD.
This removed all yellow flags in device manager concerning my raid.
It is accepted, i suppose it's complete. But the 64 bit driver installs 4 times quicker than the 32 bit version. So maybe W7 doesn't install the 64 bit driver good enough? I can't install w7 at all since it can't find any harddrives to install on. I would like to start over, but I don't know how to delete the 32 bit driver... Formatting harddrives doesn't delete the driver, and bringing bios settings to default neither. I flashed the bios to 1.9 which didn't help aswell. If I mark the button  ''shows only hardware compatible drivers'' my original msi cd doesn't give any drivers. Though there are drivers on it, but they aren't compatible... Should I flash my bios back to 1.0? Hopefully it will delete all its extra features like raid array. And then I install it with the correct 64 bit driver. But it seems weird that the problem is there... Since it seems logical to me that the bios doesn't work on 32bit / 64 bit programms.
Are there risks concerning flashing the bios back to version 1.0? Would it help? I would like to know where the driver is located... where does it get installed? Did I accidently indeed flashed my bios by booting with the driver usb, how can it be deleteD? And is that the problem? Meh! Thanks for your help Sabbath, appreciated ^^ Isn't there a moderator or technician from MSI on these forums that can help me?

  • ARECA RAID CARD PROBLEMS

I am in the middle of building my new system.
I am having problems with an Areca arc-1680 IX 16 Port.
Basically the card is running so slow, I have tried varios volumes from 2x hd in raid 0, to 10 raid 0, raid 30 ect. the higest i got is 170 ish mbs. peaks up and down.
I have tried with HD Tach & HD Tune.
    Motherboard used:
    Asus Z8NA-D6
    HD: Samsung hd103sj
    Windows 7 ultimate.
I have tried the only 2 available 8x pci-e slots. makes no difference.
waiting for areca to get back to me.
this is the second card i am testing this week. So i have 2 cards that cost ££££ and they are useless.
any sugestions what it could be.
    baz

good chance its the motherboard you used. it would not have been my choice.
you should be hitting 195-215 for a 2 drive raid 0.
i have not tried the samsung drives so who knows...
what #s do you get with onboard raid 0?

  • Possible RAID board problem

We've got an Xserve RAID that is showing one of the drives to be having problems. But we've moved the drive to the other side and RAID admin discovered it and showed its status to be ok. Then we tried a new drive in the bay and the XServe RAID was complaining about that drive. Then we swapped the controllers to see if that was the problem. Nope. Still complaining.
So we've decided to move all 7 drives to the other controller and other board. We shouldn't have any problems with data corruption or data being lost we when reconfigure the Xserve RAID should we?

    Hi
If all the drives are in one array and there is nothing in the other array then you should not have any problems. XServe RAID is a modular design allowing for quick access and change to some, not all, failed components. As ever make sure you have backups in place and ready – just in case!

  • RAID creation problem,

When I try to create RAID sets, both mirrored in Disk Utility, one set works perfectly while attempting to create the other set results in the error message: "Creating RAID set failed with error: Could not find RAID"
I've tested the disks with Techtool Pro and there were no errors found on either. I have also used the repair/rebuild function in DiskWarrior on both of them as well as the repair permissions and repair disk functions in Disk Utility.
After the above error the 2 drives involved do not show up in the finder, but are still present in Disk Utility as unmounted disks. In order to act on them again they have to be initialized/formatted. After doing this they show up again, but any attempt to create a mirrored set with them continues to fail.
Is there anything that can be done to fix this? Or are these bad drives that are good at hiding it (no bad sectors, all tests+).

    From your comments, I guess you are using 4 disks and trying to create two Mirrored RAIDs at the same time? If that's the case, you might try just creating 1 set using two disks, then quit Disk Utility. Launch Disk Utility, then try creating the second set using the other two disks. If that doesn't work, you might try rebooting in between RAID creations. If that doesn't work, you might try the work around seen here;
    http://forums.creativecow.net/archivethread/71/480772
"2) Create 1st stripe from two devices, don't do anything to the other two yet. Shutdown Mac and turn off the power to the devices of the 1st stripe, leave the power on to the two un-stripe devices. Boot and stripe the 2nd pair, shutdown Mac. Turn power back on to the 1st stripe and reboot (all power to devices are on). Both stripes should be on the desk top."
Personally, that 'solution' seems a little dated. Disk Utility has been able to create more than one set for a while now. I just tried it. I have a Stripped BootRAID using two disks, I used a partition from another internal disk and an old external disk, connected by USB2, to create another Stripped RAID. Then I broke the new Stripped set and created a Mirrored set. I didn't have any problems creating either. I had two stripped RAIDs on a FW800 G4 running Tiger a couple years ago...

  • Raid 5 problems..

    Hi
I got some problems when i use Raid 5 on my MSI K8T Neo.
I use this card "Highpoint RocketRAID 1640".
    And 4 X 80Gb Maxtor sata.
My Write speed is about 3-4mb/s but my read speed is 100mb/s+ in windows XP sp1.
And when i use Raid 5 i got some problems that the sound and my mouse is abit laggy.
I tryde to test the raid card and the hdd's in my linux system (P3-667Mhz) and there all did work fine, Read and write speed of 80-90mb/s.
    Realy need some help
    Edit:
Now i did delet the Raid 5 aray and created a Raid 0.
    So no i run 4 x 80Gb sata drivers @ Raid 0
No i get a good read and write speed in windows xp sp1.
But way don't Raid 5 work
Here is some test i did with PCmark 2002 hdd test (coming soon..)
    Raid 0 with 2 hdd's
    Raid 5 with 4 hdd's
    Raid 0 with 4 hdd's

First off, make sure you have multiple backups of the data including a robocopy of the whole array.  Disk 6 needs to go and if your two spares are still available you need to switch to one of them and then remove it.  I don't use dynamic RAID (HW
RAID only for me) but from what I've read you need to right-click on the volume on the drive that was failing and choose "Repair Volume".  A dialog opens and should let you choose one of the spare disks from what I understand...

If my bios is set to ide or ahci they work fine i had my windows instaled on 1 of them all woks fine. Once i switch my bios to raid ( before i set up my raid 0) boot up win 7 instalation i do not see any drives ( i know is normal) load the drivers for the raid controler (sb950 for w7 as it says in themanual) and only my 256 hdd shows up but not the ssds . Than i set them up in ld raid 0 same problem . Tryed on another 2 mbs ... 1 same and a gygabite same problem. So i was sure there is a problem with ssds. I got rid of them got 2 new 850 evo 250 gb same problem. please help me i am so desparate i am willing to pay woth body organs for help

    I..have a few questions...
    1. You set BIOS to the RAID mode, and under that option there's a Board SATA RAID ROM, do you set it as Legacy ROM?
    2. Did you enter Ctrl+F to initialize the drives/Delete Array(If they're used SSDs) and create RAID0?
    3. Is your Win7 64 bit or 32 bit?
    4. I assume it's 64 bit, did you copy the W764 folder for driver loading?
And make sure you get the driver from here:

  • K9A2 CF RAID / Driver Problems

Hi everyone, first of all here are my PC specifications:
    Mobo: K9A2 CF (Bios v1.8 - RAID Firmware 2.5.1540.33-A)
CPU: AMD Phenom II 920 (no OC)
    RAM: 2 x OCZ Platinum DDR2 1066MHz @ 800MHz (default @ 1.8v)
GPU: XFX GeForce 9600GT (no OC)
    HDD: 2 x Wester Digital 7200.11 SATA II 500GB @ RAID 0 from ATI SB600
    PSU: Satellite 600W
    Windows XP Pro 32-bit SP3
The problem is the following, when i installed WinXP I insert RAID disk (downloaded from MSI website "miniport driver   2.5.1540.48"), select the RAID 0 drive (1000GB) and let it go...
First boot: fine... i can run every application without trouble. Then i proceed to install ATI SB driver from CD... all fine, ask me to reboot, i click yes.
Second boot: quick BSOD when WinXP logo shows... impossible to boot.
Then i boot with F8 and select "last known configuration" or something like that, it boots fine but ATI SB srivers are not installed. Every time i try to install them (i tryed version 8.54, 8.53 and the one that comes with the CD) i get BSOD during boot.
That leads to a posible wrong made driver by AMD, or am i missing something?
This problem happened in this thread also:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=124382.0
Please help, should i send motherboard to RMA ?

by reading this thread i could see what stop error the BSOD was showing.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=103936.0
and then i looked up the error here:
    http://www.updatexp.com/stop-messages.html
My error was 0x0000007B and my 2nd parameter was 0xC000034.
    Stop 0x0000007B or INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
The Stop 0x7B message indicates that Windows XP has lost access to the system partition or boot volume during the startup process. Installing incorrect device drivers when installing or upgrading storage adapter hardware typically causes stop 0x7B errors. Stop 0x7B errors could also indicate possible virus infection.
The second parameter is very important because it can indicate whether the 0x7B Stop message was caused by file system issues or problems with storage hardware and drivers. Values of 0xC000034 or 0xC000000E typically indicate:
    # Disks or storage controllers that are failing, defective, or improperly configured.
    # Storage-related drivers or programs (tape management software, for example) that are not fully compatible with Windows XP Professional.
I read the possible solutions on that page but there aren't solutions at all... ¬¬

  • Xserve RAID email problem notification problem

    Hello,
I had a big problem last week with losing a lun on the Xserve RAID, after rebuilding the raids and replacing the data, I can no longer send email notifications, I can add email addresses, but nothing happens during email tests.
Any ideas where to start looking?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michael Germana

I also have this problem but it has been since we first installed the system. Test e-mails don't go out, nor do actual alert e-mails. There is nothing on the SMTP server to evidence that it is receiving any notifications to send, let alone denying any e-mails.

  • FCP video freezes - RAID upgrade problem?

Last week, the 4 drives in my RAID were replaced with 750GB drives, Mac OS Extended (Journaled), RAID 5. Initialization took about 36-40 hours, as expected. Previously, my 4 drives were 250 GB, Mac OS Extended (Journaled), RAID 0.
With this upgrade/change, my captures through FCP now have freezing video. I can see the video freeze in the FCP capture window, when I play the clip in FCP and when I play the clip in QT 7.4. By freezing video, I mean the video plays appropriately for a few seconds, then freezes for a couple of seconds, then plays appropriately for 10-15 seconds, then repeats. The audio is fine. Re-capturing yields the same problem, although with freezes in different places.
Could this be a result of the RAID upgrade? QT 7.4? For what it's worth, I have another Mac running on the other side of the RAID (FCP 5.0.4, QT 7.3, RAID 0) that is having no problem at all.
Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.
I am posting this on the RAID discussion board as well.
    Thank you!

QT 7.4 still has issues...added new ones as a matter of fact...

  • Marvell Raid Setup Problem

I have managed to install an onboard raid 0 using two 300Gb V'Raptors connected to an X70-UD5 board, and they are up and running.
I am trying to add second raid 0 using two WD 1Tb Blacks connected to the next pair of Marvell sockets on the MB.  I have set that sata connection to raid, but after restarting and using Ctrl m to enter Marvell configuration, I can't see those WD blacks - only the 300Gb Raptors already set up and working.
If I go into Win7 Disk Management I can see the two WD Blacks as unallocated volumes.
Any ideas where I might be going wrong?

That's a good suggestion, and similar to what I was considering as a next step. The system hangs every time writing large data blocks to either raid0 array, and from different source drives. My next step was to start from the beginning keeping things as simple as possible to try and isolate the problem. I'll delete one of the hardware raid0 for instance, and if that works OK, keep adding drives until it fails.
As it happens, my second 300Gb v'raptor was obtained second hand from somebody who had upgraded to an SSD, so that's something to think about. But the v'raptor raid0 is only 600Gb so I was going to use it for captured video. It has a single 80Gb project on it at the moment, and it took two attempts to transfer that data to it.
The other raid0 is a pair of 1Tb WD Blacks, and I am trying to transfer My Documents to it, which is close to 600Gb.  It hangs every time from anything from 200 to 500Gb moved.
I have a similar thread on an Oz gamers/overclockers forum.  They sure seem to know their system tweaking stuff, but have not given me anything more helpful than that Marvell SATA sucks, and Marvell  SATA 6G sucks big time.  But I have eight drives (including the DVD burner – 10 with the USB3 externals), so have to use both Intel and Marvell ports.
I am just a hobbyist with video, and having spent close to NZ$5000 on the box so far, I would prefer not to invest upwards of another NZ$2000 for a raid controller.  I mean I don’t know for sure that it’s the on-board raid controller that is causing the problem.
The place that built the box opens after the Christmas break this coming Monday, so I’ll get them involved, but I don’t think their experience and knowledge extends to this area.  They are a Gigabyte main dealer though, and have good communications with the NZ Gigabyte technical people.
Just one thought, when I initially tried to set up using the Intel ports, it lost my boot drive and I reset the BIOS defaults while trying to fix it.  Since then I have a display glitch when resizing some windows.  Disk Management window is the worst affected.  It looks for all the world like a GPU driver issue, but I have checked that.  When I drag the corner to resize the window, it leaves these trails:

  • Caldigit raid migration problems

    Hey,
So long story short apple has decided to crew my 2008 mac pro for a new 2009! Which is pretty awesome, except for one small (big) problem. I have a 4 drive raid 5 array off of the Caldigit raid card... however the new system does not have an ipass cable, correct? Meaning I can't connect my raid card..
So here's my problem, I already dropped a bunch of money on this raid card, but I really need a raid 5 array for what I do, any suggestions?

Thank you. You are correct about the built in drivers. My understanding is that those are just to allow the card/raid to function. The drivers do not allow for any manipulation or control of the raid or any alarms. That's what the Raid Shield is for. If you uninstall the Raid Shield, you cannot see or manipulate the card or raid set, install firmware, or change settings at all, while it will function fine as a drive under Lion or ML. I have uninstalled it and the raid works fine but I can't control it or see the details if I have to which leaves me uncomfortable.
Raid Shield does function.................you just have to clear the error, do what you want quickly, and execute before the error comes back or you just have to clear it again.
    Frustrating.

    Hi,
I would recommend the HighPoint RocketRAID 4322, SeriTek/2eEN4 4-bay, hot swap enclosures and mini-SAS to eSATA cables. You can read more about this configuration here:
    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/intel/macpro-2009/

This external SATA solution supports RAID 5/6 and provides easy access to the hard disks. I like the external option best as it leaves the internal bays for boot camp, boot drives and backing up or importing data.
If you require an internal solution, and do not mind the limitations that come with it you may want to explore the new MaxUpgrades "SAS/SATA Backplane Attachment."
