    Hi There,
How do I check the CPU and memory (RAM) allocation for the OMS and the Repository database? I'm following the "Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Installation and Configuration Guide 10g Release 5 (10.2.0.5.0)" documentation and it says to ensure the following:
Table 3-1 CPU and Memory Allocation for Oracle Management Service
Deployment Size Host CPU/Host Physical Memory (RAM)/Host Total Recommended Space

  • Logic and RAM allocation

    Hi there guys
I recently upgraded my Dual 2Ghz G5 (PPC) with an extra 2GB of Ram (2 X 1GB sticks) and another 250 GB Seagate HD
I have noticed that my performance hasn’t increased and has in fact taken a dive.
Could it have to do with my RAM allocation in the ram slots? See below the current allocation in my system profiler (they have been matched in pairs, plus the newer RAM has a different speed spec?)
Please see if anyone can help – could this have affected my performance? Plus how do I increase or set virtual memory use for Logic?
    Thanks in advance

Thanks guys - what about instert byspassing some plugins during playback to the sections where they are needed? I'm not sure how logic works with this - does it only use a certain plugin once it reaches the piece of audio in the timeline?
So would bypassing it before and after make a difference?
I’ve frozen pretty much all the tracks (ones with with lots of plugins) – the majority on plugins are running on busses
I’ve got a pretty complicated mix with lots of routing – 86 audio tracks (not all at once) and 42 busses
    I’m running the following plugs:
    Logic:
    7 x Linphase Eq’s
    9 x Channel Eq’s
    9 x Compressors
    1 x GATE
    2 X Space Designers
    5 x Direction mixers
    2 x Lowcut
    1 x Stereo delay
    1 x Tremelo
    Other:
    1 x BBE Sonic Maximizer
    3 x Waves RCompressor
1 x Izotope Ozone (only vox harmonics – cpu light)
    2 x Waves L2
    3 X Waves L1
    1 X PSP Vintage warmer
    2 x Waves Doubler
3 x IK Classic studio reverb
2 x PSP Nitro filters (byspassed when not used)
1 x Camelspace (byspassed when not used)
    1 x PSP 608 delay
I don’t know what do you guys think ? Is this pretty much as many as you’d expect to be able to run with my system spec with it just keeling over every now and again [ok more again than now ]

  • Can we increase the RAM that is allocated to the graphics chip??

i bought a macbook a few weeks ago and mine has like 2gb of ram so that plenty to go around while my graphics chip (the intel 950 one...) is only allowed to access about 64 so i was wondering if there is anyway to increase the amount allocated to the graphics chip.thnx!

No the allocations is automatic. It actually accesses more as needed.
This is what is listed in the spec as used if you only have 512mb ram. As it says it uses more than you stated as the minimum even with the limited RAM.
    1. Memory available to Mac OS X may vary depending on graphics needs. Minimum graphics memory usage is 80MB, resulting in 432MB of system memory available.

  • HP Pavilion DV2716ca - Reduce the amout of RAM allocated for video card

    Hello,
Is there a way to reduce the amout of RAM allocated for video card?I don't play games so only 16-32Mb should be more than enough
I have 4Gb of RAM and only 2.99 are available. I know that for a 32bit OS only 3.4-3.6Gb are available.
    Thanks,

    Hi @adrian_d ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv2716ca Entertainment Notebook and wanted to reduce the amount of Ram allocated to your video card. I do not recommend this as this could cause overheating or overworking the card. Here is a link that might help with performance issues.

  • How can I select a channel on the RT target with a VI on the host?

Maybe I'm trying to pound a square peg into a round hole, so please let me know if I'm abusing LV, but ...
I'm trying to parameterize our RT VI app that deals with digital output channels.  We use the same basic VI for multiple configurations.  The only thing that changes is the channel allocations.  So for instance, actuator 1 is on port0/line5 for one configuration and port1/line2 in another.  I really don't like the idea of modifying the VI every time we have a new configuration because it makes configuration management insane.  If I make a change to the basic VI, now I have to upate N copies of the VI and hope I catch everything.
So I'm making the main app VI read an XML configuration file that specifies all the allocations.  Sounds great at first, but how do I create the XML file?  I created a VI that manages the data in the VI, allowing the user to add/remove channels and edit the name and channel and then save it to an XML file.  The configuration is comopsed of an array of clusters, with the cluster containing the name and DAQmx channel.  My intent was to let the user select the channel from the list of valid channels by using the DAQmx Global Channel control.  But the problem is, the configure VI runs on the host, which doesn't see any of the channels because they are on the RT target.  But if I try to run the configure VI on the target, it refuses to deploy because I have GUI widgets.
Is my approach fundamentally flawed?  Is there a better way of parameterizing our VI?  Or is there a trick to getting access to the valid channels on the host VI?  The information MUST be available because after all, when I modify a target VI and select a global channel constant, I'm doing this on the host.
    Thanks,
    Keith.

    Hi Keith,
you can handle the channels like "normal" strings. See the attached picture.
    Hope it helps.

  • Java.sql.SQLException: The TCP/IP connection to the host  has failed.

Hello. I hope you had a happy new year! Now its back to work.
I am having a problem connecting to a remote SQL Server DB. I am using NetBeans 5.5 and the latest J2EE. I am able to see the tables in the IDE and bind objects to data. But when I run it it gets this:
java.sql.SQLException: Error in allocating a connection. Cause: Connection could not be allocated because: The TCP/IP connection to the host has failed. java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: no further information
    at com.sun.gjc.spi.DataSource.getConnection(DataSource.java:100)
    at com.sun.sql.rowset.internal.CachedRowSetXReader.connect(CachedRowSetXReader.java:344)
    at com.sun.sql.rowset.internal.CachedRowSetXReader.readData(CachedRowSetXReader.java:126)
    at com.sun.sql.rowset.CachedRowSetXImpl.execute(CachedRowSetXImpl.java:968)
    at com.sun.sql.rowset.CachedRowSetXImpl.execute(CachedRowSetXImpl.java:1428)
I checked the SQL Server Configuration manager on that machine and TCP/IP connections are allowed. What else could be wrong?
    Thank You.

"Connection refused" means that the client sends a packet saying "I would like to connect to port number NNNN please" to the server computer, and the server computer's OS sends the reply "there is no process listening to that port on the network interface you are using".
The database server is not running, or running but not listening to TCP/IP connections, or at a different port from what you think, or listening to only selected network interfaces (it is possible for a process to listen to a specific interface or a wildcard for all interfaces). A less likely scenario is that a firewall is sending the "connection refused" message.
First aid check list for "connection refused":
    - Check host name in connect string.
    - Check port number in connect string.
    - Try numeric IP address of server host in connect string, in case name server is hosed.
    - Are there any firewalls between client and server blocking the port.
    - Check that the db server is running.
    - Check that the db server is listening to the port. On the server, try: "telnet localhost the-port-number". Or "netstat -an", there should be a listening entry for the port. You need to configure the database to accept TCP connections; the server documentation or google should explain how.
    - Try "telnet server-host-name the-port-number" from the client, to see if firewalls are blocking it.
    - If "telnet" fails: try telnet with the numeric ip address.
    - If "telnet" fails: does it fail immediately or after an obvious timeout? How long is the timeout?
    - Does the server respond to "ping serverhost" or "telnet serverhost" or "ssh serverhost"?

  • Memory could not be allocated for the activation process. Please close all applications and try agai

I have just had a Windows XP failure and took the opportunity to replace with Windows 7.  After I reinstalled PhotoShop CS(1) the message "Memory could not be allocated for the activation process. Please close all applications and try again"  is shown and forces PhotoShop to close.  I have 4Gb of Ram installed and a total of about 10Gb of Page File space on three partitions of a 500Gb HDD.  The system is not heavily loaded!  However, I cannot access Photoshop to check scratch disk allocation.  How to fix???

Yes, there are many forums, and it can be confusing. Your question has the best chance of being answered if it is in the proper place. I think it is there now.

  • Memory Could Not Be Allocated For the Activation of PhotoShop

    CS2 Intel P4 3.0GhzHT, 3-4GB Ram WinXP
Photoshop won't open for me. It used to. Any idea how I might fix this?
When I try to open Photoshop, I get "Memory could not be allocated for the activation process. Please close all applications and try again."
I've done this with no applications after a fresh reboot and get the same message.
It only started recently. Photoshop used to open for me and was usable.
I got 3 or 4 GB of ram. I can't remember, but WinXP only sees about 3GB anyway. Either way should be more than enough, no?

hey john, thanks for resuscitating the topic. I on XP and it’s PS8
I have defragged, cleaned disc, etc.
In terms of symptoms, PS opens up and once open the prompt comes up. I hit okay and it shuts down.
i have tried CTRL + ALT + SHIFT whilst PS boots up; i get the prompt "ÿou currently have Adobe Photoshops primary Scratch and Windows' primary paging file on the same volume, which can result in reduced performance. It is reommmended that you set PS Primary Scratch Volume to be on a differrent volume, preferably on a different physical dirve."
I guess this means reinstall, partition and  set up on a partitioned drive? I don't particularly want to take this course of action if there is an alternative. It doesn't make sense given I've got plenty of space.
    No no need for that!
The message about the scratch drive is normal: the CTRL + ALT + SHIFT resets the preferences to the default for a single HDD. If you have more than one, go into Edit > Preferences > Performance and set the primary scratch drive to the one without the paging file.
Once you have OK'd that message it should go away if you do only have one HDD.
Partitioning will not do anything. The object of the separate drives (if you have them) is to avoid conflict between Scratch and Page file.
Do you still have your original problem?

  • Cannot connect to the Internet in Solaris 10

Hi, I've always been a Windows user and am now trying out some various Linux distros. This is mainly because I need to use the programming environment 'Poplog' for my University course, and would like to be able to work on things on my own computer as well as the ones on campus. So I apologise now for being a complete Linux newbie and not understanding any terminal commands etc...
I've already tried using Ubuntu 6.10, but couldn't manage to install Poplog for whatever reason and so decided to try Solaris instead. I'm on a small home network (not wireless) at the moment consisting of my computer and only one other, and Ubuntu had no problems whatsoever connecting to this straight away. It simply worked as soon as I had installed Ubuntu and didn't have to play around with any settings or drivers.
This is not the case with Solaris 10! I have no idea how to get the internet to work in this operating system, so I would really appreciate some advice! In case it makes any difference, my computer is a Pentium 4 3.06 GHz and the network card is the one that was built in when I bought the PC (Dell Dimension 4600) - I think it is the 'Intel Pro/100' network card or something very similar. The name of the home network is MSHOME I think; the default setting when configuring the network within Windows.
The only menu within Solaris that I could find to enter my network details was entitled "Configure Network Proxy Settings". Assuming this is the correct place, I still have no idea what to enter as my 'Proxy Host Name' and 'Proxy Port'. Is this even the correct place to set up the Internet or do I need to do this somewhere else?
    Thanks for any help!

I have the same problem and will give some details
It is a dell machine with a built in NIC card
It took me a while to figure out how to find the device name and enter it
devfsadm -v will scan for new hardware
prtconf -pv will show you devices detected in the system
find in the list the portion titled ethernet
the name of your device is a combination of
    pciVVVV,DDDD
where VVVV is vendor id (in my case 8086)
DDDD device ID (in my case 1050)
    update_drv -a -i ' "pci8086,1050" ' iprb
do not forget to use single quotation marks and double quotation marks and the name of your interface that in my case was iprb
ifconfig -a plumb will give you a chance that by the next
ifconfig -a you will seethe NIC interface
then you can use ifconfig to give it an ip
anyway this procedure was god enough for me to see the machine in the local network, but still I can not connect to internet.
I have a WRP-2310 router working as DHCP server and have entered the ip's in the hosts file
Still missing something I guess. Any help will be appreciated

  • How do I know what is the host-side FIFO depth?

    Hi.
In LabVIEW FPGA, the FIFO.Configure Method lets you determine the depth of the FIFO on the <u>host</u> side.
If my VIs have never included this method, is there a way of knowing how deep this FIFO has been all along?
I set my FPGA-side FIFO to be 8k deep.  What depth does the host-side FIFO default to?
I am asking because I am getting some failures in my test VI that uses FIFOs and I suspect overflows are to blame.
    Thanks,
    AlejandroZ
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Here is a copy+paste from a post I made back in May 2010.  I'll add some tags to the original so it should facilitate easier searching.
The DMA FIFO is actually implemented in 2 parts, you define the FPGA size in the project explorer(actual FPGA fabric), the Host side is defined programatically (Host RAM).
There is a configure method you can run on the Host, the default for the Host side is 10,000 elements.  I would set the FPGA side much smaller, 1000 or so elements, save a lot of FPGA fabric.  Configure the Host side to 64,000 or something.
Here is a help link to the Configure method:

  • RAM Allocation and Media Transcoding not working?

So as much as I love Final Cut Pro X and all of the great new features, I've come across two big concerns that I can't seem to fix or find a solution too.
    1. I have heard that FCPX can basically use as much RAM that you can throw at it. This to me means that the more I get, the quciker things will Render, and Transcode and editing should be smoother. Considering that my iMac (Quad Core i7 3.4 ghz) is the latest model and it only came with 4gb of RAM, I decided to upgrade my RAM. I recently bought and installed 32 gb (4 sticks fo 8gb) of RAM. I know the Maximum says 16gb, however Crucial claims to have done significant testing on the RAM and says that the i7 can in fact work with it no problem and it seems to show up and work so far. My main concern though is that even with all of that RAM FCPX doesn't seem to be using nearly that much. I tried giving it tasks such as transcoding some files and applying a lot of effects to things in the timeline and it only seems to be using about 3 or 4 gbs worth of RAM, which is nothing compared to the 32gb that it should be using. I literally have things waiting to be transcoded or rendered when I ahve plenty of free RAM just waiting to be used. To me this doesn't seem correct. Does FCPX have some sort of RAM allocation control or does anyone know what I can do to make FCPX realize I have that much RAM and tell it to use it? Has anyone else had this issue? I was thinking maybe erasing the preference files? Maybe something in the preferences thinks that the RAM is still only 4gb?
    2. My second question is in regards to Transcoding. I've read alot online that says it is best to Transcode your footage to Pro Res on Import to make sure it is at the optimal settings to edit in FCPX. My original footage is h.264 from my DSLR and works, but if I can convert it to Pro Res and it runs even smooother, I would love to do so. I know this option comes up when you import, but I have recently discovered that you can right click on a files in the Event Browser and tell it to Transcode after the fact. Since I have a lot of clips I thought maybe grabbing all of hte clips at once and telling it to batch Transcode all at once would be helpful, especially considering how much RAM I have now, but it doenst seem to be working. Upon trying that I noticed the first clip goes like normal, but then it just stops. The rest of hte clips just stay frozen and don't move at all. I can play and pause the Trancoding options in the Render Window, but still nothing continues. It just stays frozen. I've tried with smaller batches and it still doesn't seem to work. Any ideas on why my transcoding just stops. I usually have to cancel that Trancode process and try again, but still nothing. Why is this happening?
    Any ideas?

If the program has enough RAM to do it's assigned work, more RAM will not speed things up. RAM does not necessarily equate to speed of operation. Transcoding still requires disk write operations.

  • How to find out how much RAM  allocated to ASE sybase 15.7 on HP-unix

    Dear expert/Sir,
How to find out how much RAM  allocated to Sybase ASE 15.7 and I using operating system is HP-Unix, because I have set  max memory

Appending to Bret's reply, the following may help you in understanding
SAP Sybase ASE maintains two other measures of memory besides max memory.
You can observe them using sp_configure "memory" procedure
    1. The total logical memory : represents the amount of memory required by all objects that are allocated in the configuration file; for example, users, caches, open databases, and open objects.
    2. The total physical memory : represents the amount of memory that is actually in "use" at a given time. This fluctuates according to the number of users online and the number of open objects, among other factor
