RAM availability

Hi:
I am working on a Mac Pro Quad Core machine with 8 MB of RAM.  Since I have certain functions in Photoshop that do not work well or at all in 64 bit and I have third party plug-ins that only work in 32 bit, I am quite often in this mode.  Right now the recommended amount of RAM is on;y ~1.5 MB.  Can anybody tell me if I up my RAM to 12 or 16 MB, will I still be stuck using 1.5 MB or will there be more available.  If so, how much??
Herman R.

Chris:
Under Preferences the amount available listed is 2.1 MB of RAM but the "Ideal Range" suggested is 1155-1512.
Is it true as suggested by Marian Driscoll that these values are independent of the total RAM on one's system?

I have been using the program for some time to successfully open .dwg files. This is a recent occurrence and I have not made any changes to the hard drive other than installing OS 10.9

Have you already opened that specific file at some former time?

  • My Core 2 Duo iMac Makes a wierd Noise and odd Ram Availability.

I Bought this iMac from mac connection.
    A 17inch 2GHz Core 2 Duo.
The first one I returned because of dead pixels.
The Second one, Which Iuse has been great. But for the Past Month, I noticed a weird clicking noise from the speakers. I tried wiping out the HD and reinstalling the OS, I checked the Ram, I performed maintenence progrmas I have, different set of external speakes, headphones, I only can reduce the sound of it if I max out the Volume on the computer.
I would make a light click noise If I opened front row, opened a program, Booting up before coming to the desktop. I would make one click each time anyone of those things opened. ((((Allmost like a click sound of Static)))))))
I love the computer overall but this is an annoyance and I fear something could be wrong with the sound card. I don't know if an update to the drivers or future firmwire update would do anything.
    Anyone have an idea??
I do't beleive I can return it to Mac Connection since I'm onto my second iMac with them, any issues, I have to work with apple now.
It also does the noice whn I adjust the Volume, Almost like static. I fear of a faulty sound card for some reason.
Before, It used to show out of the 1GB of Ram, that there were 820 plus to 750.
Right now, I only have Mspace running, Thispage, and iTunes And Theres only 186 Mbs of ram left free. Is the Ram Zapped or what.
On the iStat pro Widget. It shows 177 MB Free Active and 844MB used.
    I worried about this

I do now about the the Use of Virtual Ram via Hard Drive. I did learn that The Ram still stays pending to open progams faster.
But see this. When I first Bout this computer, I would have abbout 750 to over 800+ MB free. Last 4 weeks, I still have the same programs installed and Now I start up with 620MB. Sometimes having iTunes open, This web page, my amail page, iPhoto, I Ram availability goies as low is 62 MB which is very low, considering having 1GB of Ram.
I see you have a similar iMac as I do, If you have a ram monitor widget. How much ram does your system start out with.
First Few Weeks it would have about 800MB, Now, ever sinnce I discovered that clicking noise out of the speakers when I nagigate the apps, thats wh I discovered the system starting with 620MB. I don't have different programs from before.
I don't feel good about this that with so few programs, even having light weight programs running, so much ram is used.
Just like Right now. I only have this page running, I only have 288 MB free. I understand what you said but I don't beleive so much ram should be out of place like that with this amount of ram.
Heck Even my 12 1.2GHZ iBook G4 with 768MB has more free ram with the same running apps.
Does anyone have any idea of my clicking problem?

  • I just had a pop-up tell me my SSD is full. But I have lots of RAM available.  Computer does seem slow and delicate tho.  What's up?  Could my machine be spending SSD space and not RAM?

I just had a pop-up tell me my SSD is full.  I have tons of RAM available. Computer does seem slow and delicate tho.  What's up?  Thanx.

Hello and thanqueue again KW.  I have had power management issues in the past tho they seemed to disappear with a new battery.  But I'll try this before I do the dreaded re-install.  haha.  And resetting the PRAM is something one should do from time to time if I recall correctly.  And it's been at least 3 years since I did that.
So I'll probably try that again.  Thanqueue.
And as I mentioned above, yeah I probably don't even have an SSD, I'd never heard of it before the other night and know I've never purchased one.  So thanx pop-iup for the totally bogus info, tho it's gotten me to this discussion page which is very helpful and I appreciate the suggestions.
In its favour, the machine will shut down normally when I'm brave enough to do so.  But it's quite a few moments till all the desktop is restored again when repowered, so I do tend to keep it in sleep mode for days, even weeks sometimes, knowing I'm putting extra wear and tear on it.
But at one point a few years ago, it took 5 minutes just to hear the chime.  It's better now, I hear the chime almost immediately, then it clunks into working mode obviously quite overburdened.  It's a wonder it's still speaking to me!  And I use it fairly heavily without too much problem (tho have some spods and the occassional app crash), have over a million files, I suppose that's not unusual.. it was making duplicate files on its own for a while but I think that's stopped.  hahaha.  etc etc and so on.
But it is very odd to have it, with a battery full of power or even plugged in, just drop out of commission when my back is turned lol for even a few minutes.  There seems to be some misguided trigger at work.  So I'll czeck those power re-sets and see if that takes care of it.

  • Satellite A500 - Only 2.96GB RAM available on Windows 7 32bit

    Hi,
I'm using Windows 7 on a Satellite A500, and when I go to the computers properties, it claims that only 2.96GB of RAM is available.
I'm running the 32-bit version of windows 7, but I thought the limit of RAM in 32-bit was 4 GB..?
Why isn't all my RAM available???
    Thanks.

The simple answer is Windows 7. If you want to know more then to see what is using your "missing memory" click Start and type resmon.exe in the search box or if you have "Run" displayed type it there. Resource Monitor will then run and click on the memory tab and you'll see or the background "programs" of Windows 7. Just google any of the names if you want to know what they do. • Power Mac G5 Quad - 6 GB RAM - OSX 10.5.8 - Max RAM available?

    Hello All,
I have (as the subject reads) a G5 Quad 2.5 GHz with 6 GB RAM running OSX 10.5.8. I use it as a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and have a question regarding RAM and "bits."
Is my computer capable of using all 6 GB of RAM at this point? How much RAM could I add - if any - and get the most out of my machine? I read somewhere that Leopard can only handle 4 GB of RAM, but am not too sure. I would like to max out the RAM, but if it only handles 4 GB, then there's no point. I have a Pentium 4 PC with 4 GB RAM and know that XP can handle only up to ~3.6 GHz, but OSX I am not too sure.
Lastly, what bit-rate is my computer capable of? The box says it is 64 bit, but as I understand, Leopard is only 32 bits. Since the businessmen at Apple chose to make 10.6 available only for Intel Macs, it seems that 64 bits will not be available on my machine. Pretty confusing stuff...
So, what do you guys think? What's the max RAM that my G5 Quad can use running OSX Leopard? And what exactly is the "bits" deal with my setup all about?
Thanks in advance for your help! Happy new year!
    Cheers,
    Cam.

You can add 2*2GB sticks to the 6*1GB sticks you have, no penalty.
I'd update to 10.5.8 & any other updates, he latest Security update seemed to improve both CPU & RAM usage.
    I have 10GB...

  • Available Ram not reflecting actual ram available

Using PS CS3 10.0.1 and OS 10.5.3. If I run Activity Monitor it shows I have 7 gigs of available ram (machine has a total of 9). In PS preference > performance it says Available Ram is 3072mb. Why? Would love to assign more ram to PS. Thanks

PS and other apps can only access ~3 GB RAM
    i directly
due to 32-bit limitations of the Adobe app; hence 3072 MB max available. Various Macs can provide much more "available RAM," up to 32 GB (less what the OS and concurrent apps are using). Mac OS X does allow apps to receive benefit from up to 8 GB or more of RAM depending on the app, so your installed 9 GB is fully beneficial.
Perhaps Adobe will deign to provide 64-bit support with PSCS5, but they have decided not to do so with PSCS4. Instead we will no doubt receive new bells and whistles that some call
    i bloat.

  • HT1461 How can you make more 'Ram' available using bootcamp, on the windows side of things??

Hey, i recently bought an iMac 20.5' (i5) and it came with 4gb Ram
I am a music producer but the program i use is windows based, so i got bootcamp, all that works fine
but ive been working on a new song for a while now and the prgoram has an 'indicator' showing how much CPU usage % and ram is being used.
it is now at 1956mb! which should efffect because i have 4gb! right!??.. no it says (in windows sytem) 2.3gb (available)....
So i went out and bought an extra 4gb, followed the instructions and Ram went int easy!!. I log onto Mac and yep 8 GB Of RAM!!
so then i log into windows (through bootcamp ofcourse) and still 2.3 gb available....
anyone know if i can make more avaible?? or do i have to reinstall windows through bootcamp???
    Thankyou
    P.S. 32 but windows 7 is what i use

Windows installed using Boot Camp uses all your comptrer's resources.
Windows 7 32 bit can only use about 3 GB of RAM. The limitation is that 32 bits can not address more than this. If you want to address and use more RAM then you need Windows 64 bit.

  • P55-GD85 - not all ram available at boot / need to reboot. [Solved]

I've 4 sticks Corsair XMS3 - 2 GB @ 1600 Mhz installed on my P55-GD85 board with the XMP mode enabled.
When I boot the PC, only 2 sticks are recognized (4087MB) at the end of the process (even if the boot sequence is notifying 8173MB ram) and I need to restart the PC to obtain the 8173MB really available. Seems that during 1rst boot, not enough power is provided to awake the 4 sticks (and I've a good Seasonic 80+ 750W PSU...) and when restarting the PC a few seconds later, all memory is always available.
I tried reseating them, it not changed anything....
I've run the Windows 7 memory verificator, no problem...
I 've run MEMTEST when the all ram was available, no problem...
What do you advise? Increasing the memory voltage slightly? Disblabling "quick boot" option? Something else?
Thanks in advance for your help and advises.

Tried reseating all my memory sticks, one after the other, in the right DIMMs (beginning with the nr 1) and rebooting each time in between...RAM was increansingly recognised...but once the PC was stopped...same thing when booting it after a while...only 4087MB available and need to reboot to have the 8183MB available.
Tried to reconnect the power pins to the MB...same, not better.
Tried to plug the PC directly to the sector without passing through the BackUPS device...not better.
Seems related to temperature of system/components...when booting in the morning, I need several reboots to have the memory fully available. If the system has been working a lil, one reboot is enough. When the system has been working for long, memory is fully available at each boot
Will now try to reseat the sticks in another order...another idea Doctor ?

  • CS6 CS5  "operation can not complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available"

    Hi,
I told the client (rather foolishly it seems) that I could open a DXF in Illustrator CS6.  I get the message shown even though I have 8g of ram
    any ideas??
It refuses to open in cs5 as well
    file is 4.2mb

A .dxf of 4.2Mb seems large, must be something else in there than a die line. Did they send you a .pdf with this so you know what this looks like. Also if they did not put dimensions on there that can be a hassle as often you have to try every unit you figure out what units the operator was wiring in.
If you can post the file (hightail has a free trial), I have 32gb and can try this for you.

  • How to imprve RAM availability in Nokia E72 ?

I have been using Nokia E 72 now for more than 2 years but have been having frequent problems with a message saying "Memory Full, Please close some applications and try again" . When I check RAM it tells me that 110 MB of the 120 MB RAM installed in this phone is always occupied by phone's own system processes which run in the background. Is there any way the RAM either can be increased or improved so that it is free for applications ? Any idea ?

    @nitienk
First, major kudos to you for testing some things first.   If you reboot your phone, manually quit Whatsapp, then check free ram, how much is there?  Still around 20 MB?  With all your programs and data stored on the memory card, have you tested removing the card, rebooting, and then checking again?  (In this case, you will need to briefly install PhoNetInfo to the phone itself.)  This seems like a good way to eliminate many items as the cause.  You should have close to 40 MB free after a reboot.  If the ram is suddenly reclaimed, then the cause could be a rogue program or a large database associated with your SMS messages, Gallery files, etc.  I would like to think that Symbian loads certain databases into ram to make searches faster...but I really don't know, sorry.
If the problem remains, then you know it's caused by something still on the phone.  If I were you, I might (very gently) back up my contacts (and back them up several times, if you want to be totally safe), remove all contacts, and then reboot and check free ram again.  When you solve the problem, please post your findings!

  • Adobe illustrator CS5.1 message: operation cannot complete because there isn't enough RAM available?

These are the issues I am currently experiencing using Adobe Illustrator CS5.1 using my Mac OS X.
    - I am having trouble opening two files at the same time and Illustrator continually crashes because of this.
    - When I try to scale my artwork to a smaller size and add more filters the program also crashes.
    - When I try to add more gallery filters to my filled shapes the entire file at one point loses all colour and only a black and white outline  of my artwork is seen.
The error message saying "not enough RAM" appears after all these crashes.
I had all these issues with 4GB RAM. I have just upgraded my RAM to 8GB and I am still experiencing the same problems.
Why is this issue with RAM still happening?

These crashes only seem to happen to a particular number of files (with a lot of effects and filters).
I think the large number of filter effects are the culprit for these crashes but I need to use these effects to create intricate garment details for my designs (I'm a fashion design student). I'm trying to get an image from three seperate files into one new page but I can't open all three files simultaneously nor scale them down due to these crashes.
    I might give CS6 a go!
    Thank you for the advice!

  • CS5 - The operation cannot complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available

    Hi,
I keep getting the above message whenever I try to perform any 3D functions in Illustrator. I have Adobe Premium CS5 V5 and am using Windows 7 Proffesional on 2 machines:
    desktop pc:
Core i5 3.33Ghz/4Gb Ram with an independant graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4550 (512mb Ram)
    and a laptop:
Core i5 2.4Ghz/6Gb Ram with Geforce 310M graphics.
Both are brand new setups and I am local administrator for both machines.
The Pagefile has now been set to 3x Ram size (was originally managed by Windows) to see if it resolved the problem but it has not.
Can anyone help with this? we have invested a lot of money both in equipment and software (i.e. 2xAdobe Premiums!) to avoid issues like this.
    Many Thanks

    Hi Wade,
Many thanks again for your continued (and quick) responses.
It seems a bit harsh (of Adobe) that we need to put in extra hardware just to keep the program alive. Particularly when both machines far exceed the requirements stipulated by Adobe's site:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrator/systemreqs/
If I was trying to speed things up or edit something really big, then I could understand the need. But I really am not trying to do anything that demanding.
Just to add, I have noted that I have not set the program to run as administrator, and have remedied this (something in Windows Vista and 7 that allows a user to be administrator but elevating the level of programs is separate. I will monitor to see if this makes any difference also.
Please don't read this as not appreciating the suggestion. We are really getting to stages where we will try anything (i.e. an extra drive will be put into the desktop if, my latest settings change does not work and I can get it authorised).
    I'll keep you posted.
