Ram clarification...

I am a little confused about the whole ram stuff and timings... did a lot of research but couldn't quite understand it...  just want someone to let me know if my settings are at optimal without any overclocking or anything...
I ran the CPU-Z and I get the following:
DDR3 - dual - 16 GB (4 x 4GB)
freq: 800 MHz
FSBRAM 1:6
CL: 11 clocks
tRCD: 11
tRP: 11
cycle time: 28
command rate: 2T
any help would be appreciated...
thanks
Daniel

sorry... you are correct it should be doubled to 1600MHz... just took off the numbers directly off the cpu-z screen...
was wondering if the timings were optimal? can you even change them?
thanks

  • RAM clarification for the P965 Neo F...

I was constructing my first build today, when I came across an interesting note in the user guide for the P965 Neo F. It stated:
    Important:
1GB DDRII 800 SDRAM memory module not supported.
Yet on the MSI site it states (for the P965 Neo F):
Supports up to 8GB memory size (with DDR2 800, memory only up to 2GB)
I've bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145590 for this build so I hope I haven't wasted my money...
    Contradictory?
Does anyone have the bottom line for this?
    Thanks guys.

It is true that the board only supports up to 2Gb of DDR 800MHz RAMs. I'll let you guys know about whether it is true on the 1GB RAM not supported.
So... 2Gb of DDRII 800MHz would be supported, but possibly not 1Gb, correct?

I see that you are saying all versions of Windows 8 are failing on your system, but are you including 32-bit and 64-bit flavors?  I understand why 32-bit versions might give you grief (too much RAM for a 32-bit system to handle).  A 64-bit system might still have device driver issues.  Microsoft does not auto-magically have all the device drivers in the world that are necessary to make any system usable.  The original device manufacturers must provide Microsoft with drivers before the Windows Update servers would be able to communicate said drivers to the computers in question.
In regards to Apple devices, Apple has not yet released the device drivers needed to run the hardware with Windows 8.  Apple has released the drivers for previous versions of Windows (XP SP2 and higher, Vista RTM and higher, 7 RTM and higher) to their userbase, but not to Microsoft for distribution through Windows Update (unless I am mistaken).  Until Apple releases a version of Boot Camp updated for use with Windows 8, they have not yet released any form of the full collection of necessary device drivers for normal device function with Windows 8.  Running compatibility mode on the Windows 7 device driver bundle via boot camp is not a fully palatable solution because compatibility mode generally is meant for application programs, not device driver services.  Therefore, partial compatibility might be gained by using the Windows 7 device drivers for Windows 8 with the compatibility mode enabled prior to install.  Unfortunately, much unanticipated incompatibility is equally likely with such a decision.
Some parting words on the subject may be necessary for clarification: prior to the RTM versions of Windows 8, the trial versions of Windows 8 were distributed with a much wider array of device drivers than the RTMs.  This was for Microsoft's testing purposes.  Furthermore, some of the architecture used during the trial period likely used Windows 7 engines more than Windows 8 engines.  This means the Windows 7 drivers pack would have had more likelihood of working during the Beta and Release Candidate periods than during the final Golden Master period we have now entered.  Regardless, it is not recommended by Apple (our hardware manufacturer) to use another method of installing Windows on a Mac than to utilize Boot Camp.
As Mende1 suggested, you would be wise to reinstall a previous version of Windows you may have been running.  Also, given your previous post, you will want to repair your OS X installation back to full functionality prior to the Windows reinstall.  For a reasonable timeline estimate, consider that it took 89 days from the original release of Windows 7 by Microsoft until Apple originally released device drivers via an updated Boot Camp.  That puts a reasonable ETA for the necessary Boot Camp update at January 22nd/23rd.  Even though this does not seem to apply to your situation, the discounted download for the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade will end after January 31st.
    Cheers!

  • Migrating from SRM 7.0 Classic to ECS - Seeking some clarifications

    Hello Friends,
We are now planning to upgrade from SRM 5.0 to SRM 7.0 and then migrated to Classic to ECS. We have the below challenging points which I need clarification,
    1) How do we go about the Taxation and Pricing Part, If we migrate from Classic to ECS
    2) Presently we have R/3 contracts in place and the same is linked to MDM catalogue and now the client wants the contracts to
be in SRM. In that case how do we go about the strategy.
    3) Asset Procurement: Now all WBS element are converting into assets by running the Z-Program in between PR and PO in R/3
system. But when we migrate to ECS PO gets created in SRM, so how do we go about the asset procurement in ECS scenario.
    4) Confirmation and Invoice transferring to R/3 through Idoc distribution Model. Going forward in SRM 7.0 the same will continue or
do we go with SOA. Please confirm.
Further to this can you please let me know, what are all the major challenges for upgrading the system to SRM 7.0 and migration from Classic to ECS.
I would appreciate for you quick response. Points will be awarded for appropriate answers.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ram.

    Ramesh,
    Few inputs for this project
    1. You need to clearly seperate out the upgrate (5.0 to 7.0) and Migration (Classic to ECS) in your project planning to derisk the project i.e. you should have seperate testing cycle time/ efforts for  upgrade and then on migration so that functional/ teachnical team working out in the project can clearly identifies issues between upgrade and migration seperately and work on them.
    2. You have to work with business to make a decision on conversion of old classic PO's (incomplete GR/IR still required) and PO in process (SC created under approval in SRM). I strongly suggest you should not involve into conversion and keep it out of this project.
    3. SRM do have option to take care of your tax configuration. BTW most of the company use external software to calculate tax amount.
    4. You need to build workflow for PO in SRM since now PO will be created in SRM.
    5. You need to create smartform / output determination in SRM for the PO. Please note SAP has provided some consulting notes if you continue to handle document transmission in backend with ECS.
    6. Yes a distribution model needs to be setup for confirmation and Invoice if you are not doing it now in classic scenario.
Asset procurement solution you mentioned looks specific to your Org business needs, you need to explore to fit into new environment.
    All the best
    Thanks, Sachin

  • RAID / Storage Rebuild... requesting clarifications for all ;)

    Hello All,
I'm replacing the 2 Seagate HDDs out of my home video editing system (CS5) that was previously configured as below, and think its a good time to get clarification on some items I never really resolved after many hours of research, to include where the different items should be installed/stored on a six-HDD system, and/or whether someone in my situation should completely re-think the system setup.
It was in the following configuration not out of original intention, but due to adding HDDs over time...
Intel RST/Matrix RAID via ASUS P6T Deluxe V2....
    2 x 1TB Seagate HDDs w/ 3 Partitions
C: OS & Critical Programs in 100GB Matrix Raid1 Partition,
D: Saved Adobe Project Files, etc. in 250GB RAID0 Parition
E: Rendered Outputs, etc. in remaining GBs RAID0 Partition
    2 x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3
    F: Scratch files on 2GB RAID0
    2 x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3
    G: Original Video / Media Storage on 2GB RAID0
    System Hardware:
    Asus P6T Deluxe V2
    i7 980
2 x 1TB Seagate 7200 HDDs (changing to something else)
    4 x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 7200 HDDs
1 x Asus GTX570 Direct CU II (exchanging for a 2-slot card, as this 3-slot won't snap secure due to sata port locations, etc)
1 x GTX275 for additional video out (haven't actually tried 3 monitors yet)
    24GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
    900w power supply
    Cooler Master HAF Case
Various external HDDs for periodic backup via eSATA
Was Vista, ordering Windows 7 Pro
    1) Assuming the hardware remains 6 x 7200RPM HDDs on a P6T Deluxe V2 (sort of want to stay on it, since just got an expensive lga1366 cpu), which only has 6 SATA ports available...
    a) Am I even correct that the best editing configuration for six HDDs is 3 x RAID0 arrays?
    b) If so, how should I distribute the following items across the 3 arrays - OS, Programs, Adobe Projects, Scratch, Outputs, Original Media? I could never figure out from forums which items are the most important to separate from each other on different discs.
    2) Or should I really be modifying the system to allow more than the 6 HDDs at this point?
    a) Now for the really nebulous question... if I need to change, should this be an internal RAID controller card with more ports, or does it need to be an external setup?
If I really need expanded equipment, I'm ok with things like buying "faster" HDDs (10k or whatever) to replace the 2 Seagates if that's a strong recommendation, spending a bit on better RAID equipment if it is actually worthwhile, but...
    1. Can't spend a thousand to only slightly improve it
    2. Need a setup that someone of moderate computer skill and experience can setup and maintain.
In particular, the question of how to distribute the various items/ tasks across existing discs is likely of interest to many readers.  This is talked about a lot, but I'm really unclear on how best to distribute them and in what priority if you don't have separate arrays for every item/task.
    Thanks to anyone interested!
P.S. NOTE to other amateurs w/ my RAID setup... trying to install a large graphics card and somehow resetting the BIOS in the process is what spurred my current possible re-build.  Didn't realize it had reset, continued startup to find Intel RST not functioning, drives renamed and of course RAID0s inaccessible.  Then changing back to RAID setup in BIOS not effective at that point.  Since I have important stuff backed up and wanted to change out some drives anyway, not worth trying to restore the RAID and recover, but you might end up in worse shape.  SUPPOSEDLY if you change the setting back to RAID before OS startup, your arrays and Intel RST will function normally even after the bios reset.

I swear you are a benevolent jaguar, always lurking and ready to pounce at a moment's notice!
Information received and agreed.  That's exactly the simple breakdown I've needed to know for years.  I assume the 1TB on C: & F: is not a mandate, but based on already having 1TB HDDs on-hand (and also assuming it should be large enough to keep the disc usage % low)?
Unless I'm advised otherwise, I suppose I'll just get the "fastest" large capacity non-ssd HDD's I can (maybe velociraptor 600gb?) for the non-RAID single discs then (C: & F: drives), since I want to replace the two seagate HDDs anyway.  I guess both seek/read time and not just throughput/write stats are relevant for the C: OS drive, if not so much for the export F: drive.  For that matter, guess I could just SSD the C: drive, and Velociraptor (or something with more capacity) the F: drive.
    Many Thanks!
P.S.: Assumed the matrix partition wasn't a good idea... a hold-over from when I only had 2HDDs and was guessing my way along.

  • P43-C51: How to optimize FSB/RAM bus clock ratio

Hi there, is there any way I would be able achieve maximum supported bus throughput of my RAM (DDR3-1600, Bus Clock 800MHz).
Currently I am only able to reach a RAM bus clock of 532MHz with my Dual-Core E6300 2.8GHz at 266MHz FSB using the BIOSs 1:2 FSB/DRAM ratio. I tried using the motherboards on-board OC switch to increase FBS from 266 to 333MHz, but the system won't even boot. With manual FSB adjustment I managed to increase to a stable 300MHz, though this didn't increase the RAM bus clock by much (only to 600MHz, still 200 off of my target).
If the BIOS would support a 1:3 ratio I would not even have to OC as this would give me a desired 266:800 FSB:DRAM ratio. The BIOS gives only a max ratio of 1:2, and as I'm not quite sure how the motherboard or CPU inter-handle the clock values I guess this max ratio is probably there for a reason.
I also speculated that If I could decrease the CPUs Bus/Core ratio from 10.5 to 7 giving me a FSB of 400MHz instead of 266MHz, and if I were to use the FSB:DRAM 1:2 ratio I could get my target RAM bus speed. Unfortunately I have not found a way to modify this on the BIOS.
    Many thanks for any suggestions.

Quote from: Jack on 09-September-11, 20:44:50
The 1:2 Ratio is the maximum ratio supported by the chipset.  This is a hardware limitation, not a BIOS issue.
    Thanks for the clarification.
Quote from: Jack on 09-September-11, 20:44:50
    Not even after a CMOS-Clear?
I did clear CMOS severel times after manually adjusting FSB when I was unable to enter back into BIOS, but I'm not sure If I tried the on-board OC straight after a CMOS clear. Or did you mean clearing CMOS after setting the on-board OC?
Will try both when I get back home. Thanks for the tip.

  • Reason to size liveCache filesystems 2x RAM?

    Hi,
I am sizing liveCache database for future rollouts of existing system.  (liveCache 7.7.04, SCM 5.1, Unix platform)
In the liveCache installation guide, the recommendation is to size the unix sapdata filesystems to be 2x the size of RAM.
SAP SCM 5.1 Standalone Engine SAP liveCache Technology 7.7: UNIX  Document version: 1.0 ‒ 08/31/2007
    Page 11, section 3.3
    File System Name Description Recommendation
    /sapdb/<LC_NAME>/sapdata[1-n] Data Volumes 2 x RAM, minimum 3 GB
    /sapdb/<LC_NAME>/saplog Log Volume 2 GB
What is reason for this recommendation?  I assume it has something to do with the history data in datacache during system shutdown and not also the 1x RAM for KernelDumpFileName path, and > 1x RAM for backup directory because only the liveCache database, not the KernelDumpFileName or backup directories are in the sapdata* filesystems.
In these frugal economic times, we are requested to justify hardware expenditures. 2x RAM seems excessive for sapdata filesystems when the RAM is 200-350GB in addition to the 1x RAM KernelDumpFileName and >1x RAM backup space needed.
Also, I assume it means the total space of all sapdata filesystems is requested to be 2x RAM, and not each individual filesystem.
Is there more explanation, clarification or justification on the disk sizing for liveCache?
    Thanks in advance,
    Margaret

    Hello Margaret
    > What is reason for this recommendation?
Plain and simple: it's necessary to have that amount of space to put data to.
    >I assume it has something to do with the history data in datacache during system shutdown
?? Not totally sure what you mean by that.
However, liveCache implements what is calles a "consistent view" to it's objects.
This means that it needs to keep several versions of the same object in the data area at the same time.
Let's assume that your planning scenarios really use up the whole RAM for the liveCache, this alone does not allow to keep multiple versions.
Thus there need to be more space available in the data area.
Doubling the size of the RAM for the Data area (not for each single filesystem) has proven to be a good starting estimation.
    > and not also the 1x RAM for KernelDumpFileName path, and > 1x RAM for backup directory because only the liveCache database, not the KernelDumpFileName or backup directories are in the sapdata* filesystems.
    ?? did not get that...
    > In these frugal economic times, we are requested to justify hardware expenditures. 2x RAM seems excessive for sapdata filesystems when the RAM is 200-350GB in addition to the 1x RAM KernelDumpFileName and >1x RAM backup space needed.
    No it isn't.
And, really, what does a TB harddisk space cost these days?
    > Also, I assume it means the total space of all sapdata filesystems is requested to be 2x RAM, and not each individual filesystem.
    You assume correclty.
    > Is there more explanation, clarification or justification on the disk sizing for liveCache?
    That's pretty much it.
You may of course start with less then recommended diskspace, but you might run into problems later on with it.

    Lars

  • Is it possible to upgrade ram for a MacBook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013

    This is correct...
MacBook Pro with Retina display comes standard with 4GB of 1600MHz memory. Please note that the memory is built into the computer, so if you think you may need more memory in the future, it is important to upgrade at the time of purchase.

will the laptop recognize 8gb of ram
i have read that it only recognizes 3gb

Just for clarification, you can upgrade the early 2009 models of the 15" Macbook Pro to 8GB of RAM. As long as you have the 2.66 or 2.93 version (or any subsequent model) then the same 8GB upgrade kit sold for the 17" Unibody will work (I'm typing this now on a 2.66GHz 15" with 8GB installed). Whether or not this configuration is officially supported as of the time of this writing is unknown but there is no technical limitation to prevent it from being done, unlike the earlier models (2.4, 2.53, 2.8) which do not support anything over 4GB (the OS may see it but it won't run reliably).

  • CLARIFICATION FOR LION INSTALL

I have a late 2009 27" Imac core 2 duo with 4 gigs of ram and will be installing Lion soon but need some clarification on a couple of things ......
First I am going to partition the HD so that I can still run Snow Leopard .........
This is where I need the clarification..........Once partitioned I think I  will need to install Snow Leopard on the second partition  and make sure that it is up to date (correct) once this has been done I can then download Lion and proceed with the install (I hope this is correct) Once this has been installed I should be able to reboot into either of these OS's ?? (I Hope)
Now , I want to create a bootable USB of Lion and I have the USB device and I have read a couple of articles on how to do this ,  has any one here done this and if so how did the USB boot work after doing it?? Will it run in virtual like booting from a live disc or is it just for back up purposes to re install Lion if it needs to be reinstalled for one reason or another??
Any and all help will be apreciated as I just want to make sure that I have this correct before I start so that I do not have to do this but once.

There should be an icon on the Desktop that looks like an external hard drive and is named "bash Update" or something like that. Drag it to the Trash. If you don't see it there, look in the sidebar of a Finder window under DEVICES and click the eject icon. Then look in the Downloads folder for a file with a similar name and drag it to the Trash.

  • Will a ram upgrade help this computer.

My family has a 2008 iMac that I never use but my father uses for pictures, Skype etc. The specs are as follows
    iMac
      Model Identifier:           iMac8,1
Processor Name:           Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:           2.66 GHz
      Number of Processors:               1
      Total Number of Cores:               2
      L2 Cache:           6 MB
      Memory:           2 GB
Its running OSX 10.10.2 will a ram upgrade drastically help the performance, it is currently using 1.98 GB of 2 GB of ram when idle, any help would be appreciated 4 GB of ram needed or push it to 6 GB I read on OWC that it can accept 6 GB clarification on that would help. Sorry for the weird question I am a linux/windows user and I am not very knowledgeable with OSX.

2GB of RAM is the minimum system requirements to run Yosemite, 10.10.x. To get a better user experience upgrade the RAM on the 2008 iMac to 6GB, OWC (www.macsales.com) makes a kit for doing so. The link is listed below. You can also contact Crucial.com and they will sell a 1x2GB DIMM and a 1x4GB DIMM (6GB total) however they don't sell the two together as a kit.
The machine currently has 2 x 1GB DIMMs installed, therefore to get to 6GB both DIMMs need to be replaced.

  • In-memory replication and no. of sessions - clarification

              a small question/clarification
Lets say we have 2 servers in cluster with in-memory repication. Let say maximum RAM for jvm heap can use is 1.5GB.
I understand that HTTP Session Data is stored in heap (am i wrong?).
Now lets say if we set weblogic.httpd.session.cacheEntries=1024 (default).
              The documentation says...
              weblogic.httpd.session.cacheEntries=x
Where x limits the number of cached sessions at any time. If you are expecting high volumes of simultaneous active sessions, you do not want these sessions to soak up the RAM of your server since this may cause performance problems swapping to and from virtual memory. When the cache is full, the least recently used sessions are stored in the persistent store and recalled automatically when required. If you do not use persistence, this property is ignored, and there is no soft limit to the number of sessions allowed in main memory. By default, the number of cached sessions is 1024. The minimum is 16, and maximum is Integer.MAX_VALUE. An empty session uses less than 100 bytes, but will grow as data is added to it.
If lets say 1025 user comes in what happens in followin scenario
              1. no heap memory available:
Does is throw out of memory exception or what does it do to accomodate new user?
Does swapping occur for HTTP data on the heap? (or am i talking nonsense?)
              2. heap memory available:
What does the following mean for in-memory replication?
When the cache is full, the least recently used sessions are stored in the persistent store and recalled automatically when required.
              thanks in advance

Hmm. I don't think there is any hard limit with in memory replication. But I would check and let you know.

  • Request for BIOS that supports 1600MHz RAM

Hello, I confirm, that with old bios version my L520 supports 1600MHz frequency of RAM.
Why is the frequency downdraded in new bioses?
Can we, users of ThinkPads, request new bios version that has all the fixes and still supports 1600MHz ? Becouse since bios downgrade sometimes when my notebook goes to standby it ends up with blue screen.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I think there is a misunderstanding here. With intel core cpus, the memory controller is within the cpu itself and not in the chipset. So it's really a question of having a cpu that supports 1600Mhz ram rather than a bios which can support the memory. Since there are no L520s officially carrying i7 cpus (the only ones supporting 1600Mhz ram, and only some of them), installing 1600 Mhz ram is tottaly useless. Older bioses may report 1600Mhz for the ram but do not really take advantage of the higher frequency, since it is the cpu that can or cannot control it. Sandy Bridge i3 and i5 cpus can only use 1333Mhz memory so the laptop will in all cases downclock automatically the ram to 1333Mhz,    using maybe lower latencies as well (which could be the only small advantage of using higher frequency ram).
You can try to upgrade your L520 with an i7, but it will void the warranty. Also the 4core i7s which can use faster memory need more current to run and warm up more, so you will have to be very careful (use a 90W power supply, check for temps often). The cpu itself is not cheap either at around $250 used, so if you really need something faster, maybe you should go for another laptop alltogether.
I hope this helps and clarifies the situation.
