Ram compatibility on gaming 3 z97 MB

Hey guys, i am going to buy MSI Gaming 3 (Z97) and there is in specifications this
Memory DDR3: 1066/1333/1600/1866*/2000*/2133*/2200*/2400*/2600*/2666*/2800*/3000*/3100*/3200*/3300*(*OC) MHz
i wonder if i could mount following memmory in this board without any problems in compatibility or bottlenecking
Memmory: Corsair 8GB KIT DDR3 1866MHz CL9 Red Vengeance Low Profile
Thanks for help

Hi,
Should be no problem with this RAM. Though as mentioned by the spec, anything above 1600MHz is OC which is not guaranteed by MSI it will work (it's CPU memory controller and RAM compatibility debate rather than motherboard)
Though I am happy owner of Corsair RAM that is apparently 1600MHz (on the box) but runs flawlessly at 2133MHz

  • GTX 970 + MSI Gaming 5 Z97 No post.

Hopefully someone can help me out.
I am trying to use a brand new MSI Gaming 5 z97 mb with a Msi GTX 970 4G video card  and have run into an issue. I can boot the system with the integrated video with no issue but if I put the card into the system I barely get a flash of power when I press the power button. The system will not even post.
I am using an AX 650 Corsair PSU, also brand new, I replace the old AX 650 Corsair PSU as part of the troubleshooting.
Any ideas? I am really loathe to RMA this card and be out of decent video for x days / weeks.
    Thanks!

Did you try to clear CMOS?
Are you able to test different graphics card in your system? Ask a friend or a neighbour for this.
What if you try single RAM stick?
Also: inspect CPU socket looking for bent pins. Use magnifying glass and bright light, or take close and accurate photos and then inspect those. (I suggest this before last part)
You could try to update to BIOS 1.9
    http://www.msi.com/support/mb/Z97-GAMING-5.html#down-bios
Make sure to use MFlash+ME Update. And follow the instructions on the website. Make sure that the system is stable (so best with single RAM stick and without the graphics card).

  • 15" Macbook Pro i7 4GB Ram good for gaming?

Hi, I'd like to know if the 15" MBP i7 4GB Ram good for gaming? I'm not gonna be an intense gamer I would just like to play games during my down time. All I will be playing is like 1 MMORPG and maybe 1 or 2 FPS games. I will not be doing this all at once. I will be using bootcamp. I have some friends tell me that they wouldn't play games on the MBP because it could ruin it? Is this true? They tell me that it's not wise to play games on this laptop.

It would depend on the games and how demanding they are, but generally laptops make for horrible gaming platforms in general. Apple laptops in particular tend to be among the thinnest of the bunch. A MBP can be thinner than plenty of netbooks out there while packing considerably more punch. That doesn't leave a lot of room for any excess heat that may be generated while gaming.
If we're talking older games, that probably aren't all that demanding, then maybe. If we're talking newer games that are pushing the limits of the laptop's specs, I'd recommend against it.

  • GAMING 5 Z97 Power ON by Itself

    Hi Guys,
A week ago I got a new Gaming 5 Z97 motherboard for my new PC.  For now I just has been installing drivers and regulars program waiting for my new video card to arrive.
A few days ago I found my computer ON, and I recalled been powering off after use. This morning (3 days after first event) the system was ON once again and I don't even used last night.
When happened the first time I disabled Wake ON LAN and magic Packet on Windows.  Today I will update to the BIOS 1.8 and see.
My question is if you heard about this problem and what else I could do or test to run to prevent this problem.
    My PC:
    HAF 922
    Intel I5 4690K
    Motherboard gaming 5 MSI
    Cooler Master 850 PSU
    Corsair Vengance 16GB

    Yep, I did that.
I disabled wake up option from some components, Flash BIOS, reset power cable, check power button, Disable Wake up LAN on BIOS and some scheduled events on Windows 8.
I read in another forums that is possible Windows 8 can cause this Wake ups.
I'll wait few days and see if happen again.

Does anyone know if this is a common problem, or how I can fix it?

Sound does not come from speaker's, but form the board itself.

That... Sorry, just watched it, as I didn't do it before.
It's quite normal (I'd say). In my case, it comes through headphones. Disable/disconnect all headphones/speakers (sound based devices) and see if it occurs again.
It doesn't always happen but think it's some like power discharge when suddenly my headphones lose power (yes USB+Jack) they just go like so.
Yes! That was it, it's when I have a USB headset/speakers in. Ah, you legend. My mind is at rest now. Thank you.

  • Choose ram for i7 4790K + MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC

whether the ram that I use is not compatible with i7 4790K + MSI Z97 gaming 9 AC ?.
    2. I plan to replace my ram, but I was confused by the many choices.

please give me advice, where ram is better than what I use now.

Possibly yes. But there is no real performance improvement and difference between 1333MHz (lowest DDR3 sold) and 2666MHz. 1FPS in some games, so it's not really worth $100 more, as that's common price difference between 2x8GB 1600MHz and 2x8GB 2133MHz. If you need MORE amount of memory, then yes it makes sense. But if you only want to have it "quicker" then there's no point.
MSI simply tests certain amount of kits on certain motherboard and that's it. If it works, they say it's compatible, if it doesn't, then I think they also mention that. If they don't test something, then it's not mentioned at all.
I tried to run my ram at 2133MHz. with memory try it. and I made it, but I do not change the settings laiinya.
    is there any other suggestions?

I am not looking for a FPS, but I seek the comfort of playing.

  • MSI Gaming 5 Z97 -- major issues, currently A2-error

    Hey there,
I very much hope someone is able to assist on this one; I feel I have literally tried everything already, and would hate to go through the struggle of returning one or more faulty components. My specifications are as follows -- please note that this is a whole new build and that I have yet to install Windows. I have not been able to reach the BIOS; at every attempt I have been met with no display. I have tested the monitor on several other computers, everything works accordingly.
    MOBO: Z97 Gaming 5, MSI
    GPU: GigaByte GTX 980
    CPU: Intel i7-4790K
    RAM: DDR3 4x4GB 2400-11 XMP Beast Kingston
Furthermore, I am running two WD Green 3TBs and 1 Samsung 500GB SSD as storage.
First issue: A sequence of errors: 55 10 19 and 15. I removed all RAM and tested slot by slot - no change. I placed them all back and it somehow - magically - fixed it. However, once I get past 55, I am met with some real issues - seemingly unfix-able (this is where you guys come in  ). I am currently booting alright (presumably), but I cannot get any further than 62 - 99 - A2. I have no idea how to solve A2.
    All suggestions is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
EDIT: This is strange; I let the computer run whilst typing this message. In the meantime it changed from A2 to showing just the temperature (which was 46 and sounds *very* strange and way to high, but that is another problem for another time). I am not sure what caused this, but I was not shown anything on the monitor regardless. Again, there's nothing installed on the computer.

What's the BIOS version, PSU (brand and model, Wattage), OC on CPU, cooler?
Did you try without the graphics card?
    Try >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Also leave HDD/SSD that has OS on it, disconnect the rest.

  • RAM Compatibility Issue

    Hi all,
I tried to purchase a RAM upgrade from Crucial.com for my Mac and was told they do not sell RAM upgrades for my model due to compatibility issues. I am lost and don't know where I should go for a quality product or if it's even worth upgrading at this point.
    This is what I need:
    1.0GB (1024MB) PC4200 DDR2 SODIMM 200 Pin Memory Module 128x64 533MHz for *NEW October-2005* PowerBook G4 'Aluminum' 15" & 17" 1.67GHz Models using DDR2
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Yes, very much so. They specialize exclusively in Mac-related products, they stand firmly behind what they sell, and I and many other regulars here have bought a lot of stuff from them and recommend them highly.

If you are going to fill all 8 slots, you are better off getting an 8 stick matched and tested kit. Reason, mixing kits even though the same part number may have different chips on them and not be compatible with each other. That particular RAM manufacturer even has some disclaimers about that with some kits.
    That's right.
    http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=427
    3. G.SKILL guarantees module compatibility within this specific Quad Channel kit. Combining with other memory kit or module (even with same part number) is not recommended to avoid any compatibility issue.
In fact, 8 memory modules is not a good idea at all.
There will be a huge bandwidth demand and you'll need to raise the voltages and/or to slow them down.
Otherwise you'll get into stability issues.

  • Link For Ram Compatibility

    Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone knows the link to the webpage that shows the rams with speeds greater than PC3200 that are compatible with MSI Neo2 FISH2R.
    Thanks in advance.

what better way to know compatibility than to ask the people here who have tested it in their system?
i was going to make a new topic, but this seems fitting; short of reading everyone's signature, it'd be nice if people post:
    ram brand/model (chipset)
    speed (example PC3200 or DDR400)
    ram spd (ex 2.5-4-4-8)
    current ram timing (ex 2-3-3-6)
    current fsb speed (ex 215)
current ddr speed (ex auto or 1:1)
rated ram voltage (ex 2.6v) (aka manufacturer's value / can be read using speedfan in [Info] tab / DIMM info / "Levels")
    current ram voltage (ex 2.7v)
performance mode (ex slow, fast, etc)
    pat enabled/disabled ? (use memtest86+ or cpu-z)
passed Windows Memory Diagnostic (WMD) ?
    passed MemTest86+ ?
    passed over-nite stress/torture test? (use prime95, etc)
"current" could also mean max value tested to be ok.
    i'll start:
    generic samsung (purchased at buyaib.com)
    PC3200 (sold as PC3500 )
    spd: 2.5-3-3-8
current ram timing: 2.5-3-3-8 (anything less = )
current fsb speed: 216 (anything higher = ram error)
    current ddr speed: auto
    rated ram voltage: 2.5v
    current ram voltage: 2.6v
    performance mode: fast
    pat: enabled
    passed memtest86+.
failed WDM. (i can't get this thing to pass any test on my MB. i even tried kingston value ram at 3-4-4-8)
    passed over-nite stress test.

Any DDR ram can fitted in DDR slot no matter what brand. As long you've the correct timing and volt then it should be no problem at all. Also you can choose others brand like Corsair, Geil, Ocz or patriot... Gd luck.
PS: If you wan to OCed then go with the high performance RAM and go with others brand (not Kingston)

  • Ram compatability

Hi, i'm going to buy some new ram. I thought i'd try buying some on ebay, but obviously the people selling don't really know if it's compatible with a mac.
So i was wondering if, as long as it's the right specs, i.e. pc3200 sd ddr ram, etc, and a brand that works with apple, i.e. kingston, samsung, etc, if there was any forseable problems with this?
here's the ram i was thinking of bidding on:

    anyone's opinions would be great!
    cheers

I never visit or use ebay so I'll assume you compared the specs to what is there, and then went to Crucial and saw what they recommend for you. Also, OWC tends to be reliable (not always) and reasonable prices.
Mac compatible can mean SPD code. But also, there were times when even Crucial had to revise their chips and specs to be compatible to new G5s, tighter specs, compatibility, and it was nothing "obvious" that really changed.
Not just fall '03 when G5 came out, but again summer '04 when they revised the G5. And you could see threads with problems combining OEM and other vendor's RAM, even different batches from same vendor.
Is it worth the time and trouble?

  • Is this ram compatable?

Hey, I have a self-built PC and tried to upgrade it with a bigger HDD and more ram. The HDD screwed up, now my computer won't even boot, and it's irritated me to the point of switching to mac. I was looking at a Mini-mac, but I was wondering if the ram that I bought would be compatable with it. The ram that I got was a Kingston KVR400X64C3A/1G. It's 1GB PC3200 DDR 400mhz CL3(don't know what that means?) 184-Pin DIMM. What I'm most worried about is that it's 400mhz, instead of 333. Also, if I get my computer from a dealer in my city, (if my ram is compatable), do most dealers allow you to get a computer without having to buy any ram with it for a discount?

Welcome to Discussions,Kingston themselves don't recommend using KVR RAM in a Mac. (Trust me I've made that mistake - it does work - but I get days with multiple Kernel Panics - and removing the RAM cures it... I'm now trying to convince the two resellers to replace the KVR with branded Kingston RAM).
In the old days Apple used to sell machines without any RAM - but not now. A dealer just sells you a sealed box they've bought from Apple with RAM installed.
May be worth holding off a pair of months on your purchase...
    regards
