RAM doesn't fit?

I have a two-week old Penryn BlackBook. It came with 2GB of RAM, but I immediately ordered a 4GB upgrade kit (This one from Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134560)
I looked up the memory replacement guide on the Apple website and followed it. I ran into problems, however, when it came to replacing the stick closer to the hard drive (the inner slot, if you will).
The old RAM popped out of the slot just fine. But when it came to putting the new stick it, I encountered much more resistance than I did with the first (outer) slot.
After pushing as hard as I could without feeling like I was going to break something, I thought I had gotten it in far enough. However, the stick was still sticking out of the slot an almost imperceptible amount further than the one of the first slot. Trying to boot them machine produced the three beeps indicating a memory error.
I tried seating the RAM twice like this. After the second try, I broke out a flashlight and tried it inspect the inside of the interior slot. In trying to seat the RAM stick, it almost felt like there was something providing some friction that was preventing it from just snapping into place like the first one; like a piece or rubber or something.
My inspection of the interior slot showed that it was different than the first; there was a piece of clear tape holding down something towards the front of the slot, and what appeared to be a small gray ribbon cable towards the back that heads towards the back of the slot and (slightly) upward.
So I strongly suspect that the ribbon cable (or whatever it is) is preventing me from successfully installing my RAM. This suspicion is reinforced by looking at the two original sticks of RAM that came included with my system (which was a refurbished system, by the way). They are not the same brand, labeling, or configuration; the stick from the outer slot is branded Samsung, and the inner is Hynix. And even more interestingly, the outer Samsung stick has two rows of actual memory chips on them, while the inner Hynix stick only has one.
I don't know whether it's "normal" to get mixed and matched RAM in a refurbished Macbook, but what the characteristics of these two sticks seems to indicate is that when fitting my Macbook with RAM, it was noticed that a stick with more memory chips on it wouldn't fit all the way in, so a stick with fewer chips had to be used.
Just wondering if anyone else out there has encountered this with their Macbooks, and if they have, what luck they've had confronting Apple about it. I am planning to take my Macbook to an Apple store sometime in a few weeks, as the nearest one is almost a 2 hour drive.

Just got back from the "Genius" bar. They genuis told me it was some tape that come loose, so he "fixed" it. He would not install the 2gb ram chip, however because they won't touch 3rd party. So when I got it home and tried again, some problem. I ended up slipping in a playing card to hold the ribbon cable (and tape) down while I pushed the RAM chip in. Worked, but I'm a little worried about the heat of the chip messing up the ram and cable. Seems like a poor design to me, but what do I know?

  • RAM doesn't fit in the Memmory Slot on PowerBook G4 17"

I recently purchased a 512 MB RAM from apple.com for my powerbook G4 17" 1.67 that I bought a year ago. I currently have a 512 MB RAM on my powerbook, trying to upgrade it to 1 G by adding one more RAM to it.
The problem is the new RAM can't fit in on both of the memory slots at the back of the powerbook. The gap on the edge of the RAM is a bit off if compares to the old RAM I have.. this is weird.
    Does anyone have this problem??
This RAM was purchased from apple.com, it couldn't be wrong, but why it can't fit in the slot??? Please help...

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
There are two 512MB modules for the PB 17", and they are different. M9595G/A (DDR333 PC2700) is for the PB 17" prior to October/Nov 2005, and MA219G/A (DDR2 PC2-4200) is for the post-Oct 2005 high resolution screen, dual layer DVD systems. Maybe check the memory against those numbers to see if you have the incorrect memory, or if you look at your system profiler (click blue apple, about this mac, more information, memory) it will tell you what you currently have in your system.

  • L20-197 - DDR2 RAM - Doesn't fit

    Hello.
I recently got a Toshiba L20-197 laptop. It's brilliant so far but I wanted to fit another RAM Module.
So I set out and got myself a DDR2 533Mhz PC4200 512Mb RAM module. Just like it says on the site.
However, on opening the module cover, the slot is about half the size of the module itself...
Can I have specific specifications for this laptop? Because the information supplied isn't strong enough.

I got 2 pages, mostly foreign-language sites via a Google search. Which is why I came back to ask.
    UPDATE: --
Never mind now. I managed to get what I wanted...
Just incase anyone else is looking here are the specifications:
    Formfactor: SODIMM
    DDR2 PC4200
    200 pin
    533Mhz
I now just wish it had this information on the website. It would have saved me time and money.

  • IMac RAM Doesn't fit

I ordered 2 new modules for an iMac 11,3. They won't seat in the bottom slots. I removed the original and put the new in the top slots. They fit normally. The originals don't fit in the bottom slots either. Any known issues with this? It is way out of warranty.

You could schedule an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar as hardware issue diagnosis is free - they could actually look at it which would make it much easier than trying to guess.

  • I ordered some RAM but it doesn't fit inside the slot.

I discussed purchasing some RAM and was told that this product would work for my G5. However upon recieving the product I discovered that doesn't work and doesn't even fit inside the slot!
My question to you is what is the problem... and what type of RAM do I really need to order. Thanks...

I have the newest model for the Powermac G5's and its the 1999$ model. So its Dual 2.0 Ghz. The part that doesn't fit is the little "u" in the center where it has to correspond for the slot. That "u" is maybe a centimeter off from being in the correct spot. It would be nice if someone could just post a link on newegg.com of RAM that is known to work and is 2x 1 GBs chips.

  • Did Apple send me the wrong RAM??? Doesn't fit!

I bought 2GB of RAM. I selected MacPro (early 2009) and it told me this is what I need: 2GB 1066MHZ DDR3 ECC 1X2GB-GEN
I bought it and it DOESN'T FIT!
Did I buy the wrong one? What the ****?!

    Hi,
with what your signature says, you don't have a Early 2009 MacPro !
Most likely that's why you got the wrong modules.
My interpretation of your sig leads to a 2 x 2.66 Dual-Core Mac Pro from late 2006 / early 2007
Use the System Profiler (Applications/Utilities folder) and look at the hardware overview for the Model Itentifier.
If Mac Pro 1.1 then my assumption is correct.

  • Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter doesn't fit my aluminum iMac

I previously had a 17" white iMac (pre-Intel) machine, and about 6 months ago I bought the mini-DVI to video adapter so I could connect it to my television. Worked like a charm. But I recently bought a new aluminum iMac, and the adaptor doesn't fit into the mini-DVI port in the back of the machine. It appears the adaptor and port are both male ends.
Has the port changed on the aluminum iMacs? The product description for the adaptor on Apple's website says it works with iMac (Intel Core Duo). Isn't the aluminum iMac an Intel Core Duo? I can't figure out why it doesn't fit and which cable I'm supposed to be using instead.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Hi Paul
Yes the Intel iMac [Spec's|http://support.apple.com/specs/imac/iMacMid2007.html] call for the (M9319G/A) Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter!

The iBook, eMac, or iMac G5 use the Mini-VGA to Video adapter.

  • My thunderbolt to firewire adapter doesn't fit the firewire???

I bought the apple store "Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter" today.  I'm trying to put my old iMac in Target Mode and move old files.  The firewire cord doesn't fit into it???  I'm sitting here feeling pretty stupid and stumped?

Your firewire cord is the wrong size.  Apple's cord is 800 port.  What size is your cord?

  • Mini Display to VGA adapter doesn't fit

I have an older(2008) MacBook and the MIni display to VGA adapter I purchased doesn't fit my book. Is there one that I can buy that will fit?

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports.
Here's the various types of Mini-DVI to VGA adapters on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_15?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field -keywords=mini-dvi+to+vga&sprefix=mini-dvi+to+vga%2Caps%2C272

  • Long text doesn't fit the window exactly

    Hi friends,
in PO smartforms i have included the header text of PO.
the problem is the long text doesn't fit to the window exactly i.e.,
when we enter the text in PO in the header a line can contain only 60 characters approximately where as in my smartforms it can contain more than that.
so in the display of smart form i get lot of space in the right side and i get the remaining part of text in the next line.
    regards,
    Saravan raj

    hi,
what u have told is correct but we can't expect the end user to do it each time when they paste the long text.
is there any option to bring it by default.
    regards,
    saravan raj

  • Workspace doesn't fit the screen anymore...

    Hello.
Since today (and Mac OS X's update I installed this morning, I guess), my Photoshop CS6 workspace doesn't fit the screen of my 12 inch Cintiq (connected to a 2014 Macbook Air).  No matter what I do, it keeps it wrong.
Trying to set the photoshop window to the whole Cintiq screen with the "green" Mac OS corner button, this is what I get:
Hitting F won't do the trick, this is what it gets me:
I tried to clear the Photoshop prefs, without success.  I checked for updates and found there was a Photoshop update I had not yet installed, and I did install it, to no success.  Needless to say, this makes my copy of Photoshop most unusable, which is a really big problem for an illustrator like me.  I really wish I can solve this as soon as possible.
    Thanks.

Yeah, no results. Still the same.
If I take my main window and move it up by myself, it's just gonna stay there until the next click somewhere, then it gets back to this wrong placement,.

  • HT204291 When I airplay my ipad, it doesn't fit the tv screen

I have ipad air and using toshiba tv. When I mirror the image to the tv screen, it doesn't "fit to screen". Are other people having this problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Mirroring won't fill the TV screen. The iPad has an aspect ratio of 4:3 and the iPhone 4S or prior an aspect ratio of 3:2, neither of these will fit exactly into a TV screen which as an aspect ratio of 16:9. The Apple TV will not zoom the mirrored image, because it may well cut off information which is situated at the top or bottom of the screen.
You may wish to try each of the settings in ‘Settings > Audio & Video > Adjust for AirPlay overscan’ for the best setting that suits you.

  • Battery failure although my battery doesn't fit the exchange program?

    hello there!
i know there have been a lot of threads about the battery life and failures in the macbook pro but i don't know which one fits my case...
my mbp is a week 13 and has no problems at all. i don't use the battery that often - by now i have 14 cycles.
my battery's serial number doesn't fit the exchange program but today happened this odd thing:
i used my mbp on battery for less than two hours and the battery symbol said that i still have about 50 minutes of battery power. all of a sudden it turned off (as described in many other threads) without any warning and i couldn't turn it on without plugging in the power cable. when i turned it on it started from deep sleep mode (dimmed desktop).
...of course i did reset the pram and stuff - but what is going on? as i said i don't meet the exchange program for faulty batteries but still it doesn't seem to work proper.
    what can i do?
    thanks in advance, guys!
    j.

hi and thank you all for your replies so far!
over the weekend i took some screenshots showing the various total of mAh. i have no idea if that is normal like this? and the battery is behaving normal again, no random shutdown... you can find the images under the following link...
    http://www.propaganda-pixel.de/mbp/mbp.htm
in addition i added a photo of my magsafe... now that it comes to the battery issue i got slightly concerned if this crimpy cord should be like this (not that this thing starts to melt on me!).
when i transport my mbp i wind the cord around those two hooks and i never pull the magsyfe by the cord out. but still it looks like this.
the power cord is from a week 10 macbook pro which i got exchanged for a week 13 but i had to keep the cord...
i know, this has nothing to do with the battery issue and no, i'm not paranoid - just now that i started this thread i thought i could add it...
    so my questions are:
    - shall i request a new battery considering the various mAh indications?
    - shall i request a new power cord? or does mine look normal?
why i ask is because i don't want to request something when there is no need for a replacement.
    thank you all!

  • My Olympic camera SD card doesn't fit into the SD card camera reader. Apple advised me to purchase the product in order to import photos to my IPad.

My Olympic camera SD card doesn't fit into the SD card camera reader. Apple advised me to purchase the product in order to import photos to my IPad. How do I over ride this problem. How do I import photos from an Olympus FE-340 directly to my IPad?

Your camera uses an OLympic XD picture card http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-xD-Picture-Memory-202332-package/dp/B002LC2DQ4/ref =pd_sim_sbs_p_1 This card has different dimensions compared to an SD card.
You should be able to plug the cable that came with your camera into the camera connection kit to import the pics.
     Cheers, Tom
