RAM for a Macbook Pro w/Logic Pro X

Hey everyone, I've been tinkering with LPX for the past few months and have recently noticed some issues.  My machine is an early-2011 Macbook Pro 13":
2.3 GHz i5
4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM
750GB 7200 RPM HDD
Here's a screenshot of the Activity Monitor whenever the program is running.  This is from a recent project with about 25 tracks, no real virtual instruments, but a bunch of plugins.
I'm currently in school and, when I graduate in a year, this computer is going to become a storage/my wife's computer.  So, I'm wondering, would an upgrade to 8GB suffice for the time being?  Or, should I just throw down the cash on 16GB even though I won't be really using this heavily in a year or so?  I'm also planning on sticking a SSD in there and using the 750GB as project storage.

Here's a current screen shot with just running Safari and Mail.  Usually, this fluctuates between around this number and about 3.5GB used.  I had yellow pressure for a little bit earlier today while running Logic, but didn't screen cap it.

Only if you install it wrong or use the wrong RAM.

Use the free Crucil.com checker to doublecheck if you need too.
You don't want Apple to do it, they quoted me $435 to upgrade $70 worth of RAM.
Do it yourself or have a local geek friend (PC or Mac) do it, it's not hard, unles you got bad eyesight and can't see the tiny screws. Use a catch mat, follow proper anti-static and handling. (touch only plastic)
Break something inside, your on your own though. No warranty coverqge or AppleCare for self inflicted damage.

  • Where can i find ram for 13" macbook pro mid 2009?

I upgraded from 2G to 4G 2-3 years ago. Now I'd like to go to 8G, but Apple doesn't appear to be selling it anymore.
Any suggestions for a reliable 3rd party solution?
Here's a few specs of my Macbook Pro:
    MacBook Pro
    13-inch, Mid 2009
Processor  2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Thanks,
    Ty

    Thanks very much!
Crucial looks good. Can't believe how inexpensive RAM has gotten for this MAC!
    I also saw they have a Seagate 1TB internal hard-drive for $105?
    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Apple/macbook-pro-%2813-inc h%2C-mid-2009%29
Considering I only have 160gb internal right now, that's pretty hard to pass up too.

  • Want to buy more ram for my macbook pro. What to buy?

    +Model Name: MacBook Pro+
    +Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo+
    +Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz+
    +Total Number Of Cores: 2+
    +Memory: 4 GB+
I am looking to buy more ram for my macbook, but I don't know what to look for. Do I have to buy 2x 4GB and get rid of my old ram or I can buy 2 x 2GB and use them all together?
Also, same with HD. I need more HD as well. Can I install another harddrive as well?

There are only 2 slots for RAM. So, you'd need to replace one of the 2 GB sticks with a 4 GB stick for a total of 6 GB, or replace both for a total of 8 GB.
Yes, you can replace the HDD with a larger one as well. There are instructions in the manual.

  • What is absolute max ram for a macbook pro 2,16 core 2 duo processor?

Hello guys, thanks for reading this post.
i read so many people saying that my 2007 mbp only going to max at 3GB if i put 2x 2Gb ram
i look up on apple store memory, my processor doesnt show as choices
i then look up on OWC website, and they show my macbook pro 2,16 core 2 duo is in fact a "model identifier" macbookpro2,2
which made me viable to get full 4GB.
just to be sure, my macbook pro serial number is
    W87****W0G
and this macbook pro now has 2x 1GB ram pc2-5300
i saw people selling pc2-5300 on cglist, but they look so long and different from the shorter and taller one on apple and owc website.
so i am a bit confused, isnt this pc2-5300 not the same thing for all pc/mac? the one on cglist was made from hp, so i didnt contact the seller.
well, i am running mac osx lion now
will be plugging lacie expresscard usb 3
and will be using aperture 3 (which req lion to use so i cant downgrade os)
and i had few issues of screen occasionally flickering, does that mean i need more Ram??
sorry, i go a bit off topic here.
thanks for all you who keep reading and hopefully have a bit to say back to me.
    cheers
    Vito

    update:
after the information i posted above
i checked again my memory use in the activity monitor
and its true, only 3Gb is being used even the about this computer info says 4Gb.
thus, i returned the one 2Gb card and use one 1Gb from old one.
it made exactly same effect, nothing different.
i thought i just made this post so anybody have same issue later would know

  • Cost of extra RAM for newer MacBook Pro.

I'm considering (checking my budget) buying a new MacBook Pro 15" for my wife. As she also needs to access some Windows programs, I want to bump the 4GB to 8GB. Does anyone know the cost for the extra RAM?
    Pete F.

    Hi Pete,
4GB RAM modules are still quite expensive.
MacSales sells 8GB (2x 4GB) for USD 277.99 for example with the opportunity to trade-in the 'old' modules.

  • Is it possible to upgrade ram for a MacBook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013

I own a MacBook Pro 13- inch late 2013 model and wanted to upgrade my memory, but i have read online that this is not possible as the ram is soldered onto the board . Could someone please give me a clarification on this?

    This is correct...
MacBook Pro with Retina display comes standard with 4GB of 1600MHz memory. Please note that the memory is built into the computer, so if you think you may need more memory in the future, it is important to upgrade at the time of purchase.

  • Ram for my Macbook pro

I have a 2.4 intel duo core macbook with 4gb 667mhz ddr2 installed but I want more ram, whats the most ram my computer can be upgraded to? Whats the difference between ddr2 and ddr3?

Is yours a June 2007 MacBook Pro? That's the only thing that I could find with a 2.4GHz Intel dual core CPU...
If so, the maximum RAM that you can install is 6GB - one 2GB module and one 4GB module. The modules that you need are 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2.
If yours is not a June 2007 model, please write back...

  • What is the maximum RAM for 2008 MacBook pro

I've seen some here say they have 8gb. Manual says 4 is max. What is the correct number?

    You're welcome.
My late 08 Uni also states 4GB Max but been running 8GB for a year now.
Same with my 1 month old late 2011.  Specs says 8GB Max.  Been running it with 16GB the day I bought it.
I have Crucial installed in both my Macbooks.
If your MB works for you, then just use it with the RAM upgrade so it can last you for awhile.  You'll see a difference in speed.
Another thing to check is your hard drive.  If it's almost full, delete some files you're not using and clear your cache memory once in a while.
An almost full hard drive also slows down your MB.

  • Whats the maximum RAM for my MacBook Pro?

    Thanks to any and all.
    MT3

Sorry, I thought i included that info.
From what i found online, it looks as if 4GB is the max. However i can't figure out if thats per slot, or if I can put 2GB in each available slot.
I currently have 1GB SDRAM per slot.

  • Ram stuck in MacBook Pro. HELP PLEASE

Today I bought 8GB ram for my MacBook Pro late 2011 15 inch so I removed the previous ram that came with the MacBook Pro no problem but  when I went to go put the first Ram in I accidentally pushed it to far into the bottom and now it's stuck. What can I do to get it out!!! It's jammed in there tight and won't move i've tried pushing it away from the  back metal part but no luck. If I take it into the Genius Bar will they charge me for it I'm still under warranty It doesn't look like I have broken anything just the ram is stuck . Please help anybody !?

If I take it into the Genius Bar will they charge me for it
Even if they do, it will cost you a lot less than a new logic board, which is what you'll need if you cause damage while trying to extract the DIMM's by force.
