Ram for K9N NeoF Motherboard

I want to build some systems using the K9N NeoF Motherboard. I'm confused about what ram I need. Do I need to use DDR 6400 (800) ram if I use a Dual Core Processor (4600 X2)? Will it work just as well with DDR2 667?
I was told to use 667 if was a single core and 800 if it was any of the X2 processors..if that correct?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

So is there an advantage to using the DDR2 800 over the 667?

  • Motherboard does not POST - Decompressing BIOS image to RAM for fast booting

I recently returned my motherboard for a warranty repair due to a noisy northbridge fan. Following the repair my system was rebuilt however the motherboard now fails to POST indicating "Decompressing BIOS image to RAM for fast booting" on the LED D-bracket. Prior to the repair the system was running ok.
I have tried resetting the BIOS with the jumper and also reconnecting all of the cables and only the minimum required components to the motherboard (CPU, memory, graphics card). The motherboard was also reinstalled inside the case to ensure no earth between the case and motherboard exists.
Does anyone know why this error is reported, what is the cause? Could it be that the motherboard is faulty or have I perhaps damaged the CPU or memory modules during the rebuild?

I have tried all of the valid combinations with the memory modules with no other components but the CPU connected to the motherboard but still no POST. I'm currently waiting on a response from MSI regarding this issue but I'm beginning to think the motherboard is damaged. I've already endured a 12 week wait on the motherboard being repair via Dabs it is looking like it will have to go back again so its going to be 4 months without my system

You are right in choosing 32GB as a good fit for the rest of your system.
I will only comment on G Skill as I have personally had good luck with their RAM (always from Newegg) over the years in various Gigabyte and Asus builds.
    Suggest you use:
    - 1600MHz (sweet spot; slower is slower, and faster buys you very, very, very little for Adobe CC)
    - CAS 9/9/9/24 should be fine; get faster if the incremental cost is slight
    - 1.5v or less
    - sticks sold in a 32GB set
    - exact p/n's listed on G Skill's web site RAM configurator for your exact motherboard; this tool is under the "support" menu on their web site which is not where one might expect to find it

Also what will there be a problem with running dual channel ram in a 2011 sysytem?

I fear I may need to sell off some pre bought RAM.
What are the main considerations for buying RAM for a 2011?

Many of the recommendations including those of Harm are items you should consider. Overall the important points to keep in mind are noted below.
The IMC memory controller is only validated at 1333 and 1600. While our UEFI and board have been developed to allow for support of higher dividers this supports varies on the quality of the IMC. Most IMCS will not have issues running up to 1866 in full population. Keep in mind though that the higher the density and the higher the frequency the hard it becomes for the memory controller to stability. Currently we have for normal users validated up to 2400 XMP but this requires an outstanding IMC ( with sheer luck in that a CPU will offer running this frequency and density ). Higher frequencies are of course supported whether it be overclocking a module or even using higher rated kits ( 2600+ )
If you are pursuing high density configurations whether it be 32GB or even 64GB to ensure the best level of compatibility and stability i would advise you run 1600. 1866 as well should be ok. In regards to vendors GSKill has outstanding SPD and XMP programming and we have an extremely close relationship with them during the development and validation of their modules ( this is why you will see our boards continually under there compatibility lists for kits ) Although keep in mind that for all memory vendors much of the higher frequency memory kits are validated on high performance IMCs on select CPUs. In this respect while that module has been ensured to run at that speed it is not a guarantee to run on your CPU ( unless the frequency is conservative and applicable to most IMCs )
Keep in mind also that not all memory manufacturers are using correctly defined XMP tables (meaning they can potentially make adjustment to voltages they should not be adjusting). Technically under the XMP 1.3 specification vendors are only allowed to define timings and frequency all MRC timings and voltages must be auto defined by the board ( excluding the primary DRAM voltage ). This is important as XMP in itself is actually defined to work on the worst motherboards this actually is not always ideal as it may have to work on vendor’s motherboards who have poor bios/uefis or lower quality trace layout which is key for optimal memory performance and compatibility. All in all XMP from a quality vendor will work on our boards but just keep in mind XMP may not always be "guaranteed or even the best settings for the modules".
Great vendors to consider for memory on X79.
GSKill, Corsair, Kingston, Patriot, Mushkin, Crucial,
In regards to compatibility we have currently validated with all active kits on the market for 32GB and 64GB. As of now we have no current compatibility or bit initialization issues ( can occur when vendors incorrectly code SPD or XMP information ).
Following up on your question in reference to QVL's these are outlined at the initial launch and generally completed 2weeks to a month prior to the launch as such you will find many newer kits not present. Additionally in transition periods of density increases ( like the commonness of 4GB or even now 8GB dimms affects considerations as these modules and even frequencies were not available at the time of the launch ).
Overall though we do compatibility and interoperability tests continually to ensure the best support possible. With that in mind there are factors that can influence initialization of memory.
    Installation issues
    1. Damaging of pins during installation ( even 1 pin slightly pin or damage can impact memory initialization )
    2. Too much pressure from heatsink assembly can uneven pressure contact with the pin / pad ( socket to CPU )
    3. Mixed memory revisions ( this can occur even with the same model memory kits ) Memory vendors change ICs over time as such memory while it should work at lower frequencies and more relaxed timings can have compatibility issues in higher densities due to sensitivities of the IMC. If possible also try to buy matched sets and ensure the revision number is the same across all modules.
    4. Memory controller voltage this can be modified ( increased at times to help stabilize higher frequencies and higher densities ) this is more common for high speed kits 1866 and greater
    Hope this helps!

  • New RAM for MSI H67MA-E35(B3)

    Hi,
I am planning to buy a new pair of RAM for my MSI H67MA-E35(B3) motherboard as the GSkill Ripjaws X which I was using since 2012 finally gave up on me recently (and the GSkill service sucks in my country). I am looking forward to buy a new pair of Kingston HyperX FURY 4GB RAMs for my MoBo. Hence I'd like to know if there will be any issues in terms of compatibility and stability with my current config? If there are going to be any such issues, would you please recommend me a good pair of RAMs to get my system running again. My priorities are Reliability and Stability with good service backup.
An early response will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Use Corsair ram. A Vengeance or Vengeance Pro kit will fit your needs. An 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 kit would be fine. e.g.: CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8

  • K8n neo2 "decompressing bios to ram for fast booting"

it was working great for about two hours. It gave me some good benchmarks    So I decided to play some farcry and during the load up of a saved game it locked up in the middle of loading. I restarted it and it hasent posted since.  The two diag lights i get are two top green two bottom red and never moves from there. decompressing bios to ram for fast booting according to the manual. I then took one ram stick out, stuck diffrent ram in there, reseting the bios, diffrent video cards.
i figured it was the motherboard and i got my rma back today same thing. so is it the cpu then or another mobo?

  • K9N Platinum Motherboard problem???

Hello. I got a K9N-Platinum motherboard and AM2 X2 4600+ CPU. However, I often got the following problem:
My system sometimes froze, no response at all, couldn't use mouse and keyboard of course.
    1) I set up the system to shut down monitor after 60 minutes. However, sometimes the system couldn't
recover, all parts stopped working, including hard disks.
    2) When the hard disk is transferring, such phenomenon could happen again.
Finally I found a solution. I had to manually set up the CPU voltage to "1.35V" in BIOS which can resolve my problem completely.
This problem only happened when the cpu voltage was set to "auto".
I thought it was a power management problem, so I installed hotfix KB896256 and KB924441 and all dual-core
cpu optimizers, the problem still existed.
    My system is as follows:
    K9N Platinum with BIOS 1.6 (601-7250-070********)
    AM2 X2 4600+
    Geil DDR2 800 1G*2
    Inno3D 7900GS
    Western Digital Raptor 37G
    Liteon 18X DVD burner
    500W PSU
I want to know whether this is a defect of my motherboard. Any advices would be appreciated.
    Thanks.mate.

Can understand the question "what CPU core do you have"?
    I have the AM2 dual core 4600+ CPU,Windsor core, 89W watt.
yep that i have asked, well there is nothing to worry about voltage applied manually matched with your default CPU vcore.

  • Are there suggestions for managing Multiple VMWare Fusion systems sharing files with a MacBook?  Suppose I have enough ram for 3 servers to share files.

Suppose I have enough ram for 2 or three VMWare fusion systems to that could benefit from file sharing.  Is it possible to configiure each VMWare funsion instance to have a common read only file share on my desktop and a common read/write area on on my desktop?
This would allow me to extend the power and mustle of my Mac Book Air, Retina Display system to its best advantage.  Whether native Mac processing or speciality linux or Windows systems as needed.
I am having trouble allowing more than one system to share the same read only and the same read/write areas so that software does the file locking and merge controls.  Even if these do not share a common read/write area, it would be truly handy for drive space management for them to share a common read only area.
    Thanks for your thoughtful input.

It really denpends on the os running in the vm and what the permissions are set to on those shares.
I run a few vms on both a mac at home and windows at work and all other computers in my home or at work can connect to the vms without any problems. Even multiple computer at the same time.
It also depends on how you have set the vm up for networking. If you are setting it up as nat, instead of bridged, that can also cause problems access it from multiple system. With nat the vm is on its own network branch.

  • How can i allocate more RAM for my onboard video card on a 2011 macbook pro 13 inch running windows 7 via bootcamp

I noticed that since Macbooks.. macs in general use an EFI instead of BIOS.  . .. Now i need to allocate some more RAM for the onboard video card since its currently running with an estimated 50mb.. I would like to increase this to 512  and cut the 3.95 down to 3.5 MB for the rest of the system ( allowing me to run more graphic intensive games and the such ... ) I know this could slow down the entire system.. ( i am aware of this ) and have gotten a 3rd party application to control and close out uneeded processes during gaming.. I just need more ram for my onboard video card.. Any help?

You don't allocate more RAM towards your video card, you put more RAM into the machine and hopefully some machines will bump the CPU graphics RAM allocation up a little.
The problem is you bought a integrated only graphics computer, if you want to 3D game you need a dedicated graphics computer with it's own or dedicated VRAM.
If your this serious about 3D gaming, your on the wrong platform.
Get a Windows 7 64bit i7 8GB RAM expandable 3D gaming tower with a good power supply and video card upgrade path, this way every few years you buy and stick in a new video card to play the latest games.
Mac's are not gaming machines and never will be because they would last too long if we could upgrade them.

  • Bought ram for Macbook 4,1 and wont boot up

Hey guys i just bought some new ram to upgrade my macbook 2.1 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and it says its the right ram for it but it doesnt boot up. the RAM i bought is 2GB PC5300/667Mhz DDR2. i bought 2 modules to equal 4GB and it doesnt boot. i tried one stick, both sticks, one new and one old, still nothing. the disk drive runs but thats all. So either i got bad ram or they labled it wrong? What can i do besides return it?

If you bought your RAM at a place that also sells PC RAM you may have gotten mislabelled RAM. PCs can handle different RAM speeds so they’ll often label higher speed RAM as a lower speed rather than make two different speeds of RAM. But Macs are much more picky. They require a RAM stick to be exactly 667mhz not 675mhz or 800mhz. The way to tell is to put one of your old RAM sticks in and it will force the new RAM to run at the correct speed.
This is from one review of PNY RAM:
"These modules are actually 800Mhz. PNY no longer makes or sells 667Mhz modules. Not all computers that require 667Mhz are compatible with 2 800Mhz modules. They refuse to down clock properly. This is especially true with a number of Core 2 Duo MacBooks. Spoke to PNY support, they flat out told me that yes, they sell 800Mhz modules in 667Mhz packaging. If you RMA a module that is 667Mhz (or supposed to be 667Mhz) they will replace it with an 800Mhz module as they no longer have any 667Mhz SODIMMs, not even for RMA replacement!"
These are good online stores for Mac compatible RAM
    OWC 667Mhz RAM

Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/ - good place to buy RAM from all over the world. They also have an excellent memory selector that allows you to choose memory based on your computer's model

  • Satellite M30X-134 - I'm looking for a new motherboard

    Hello,
im looking for a new motherboard for my Satelite M30X-134! I was offered one with the Toshiba number K000019680 with the advice that this one is for all M30X notebooks. Im a little irritated, because my thoshiba trader told me, that I need one with the number K000019210. Could someone tell me, if the K000019680 goes also fine with my notebook?
    Best regards

    Hi
It looks like you can use both of them but maybe is better to use K000019210. on this way you will be on safe side.

  • Ram for G3 RevA Mini-Tower

Hello all again. Next ussue: want to upgrade from 320ram to 512 or more. I once a while ago installed a 256mb stick to upgrade to 320mb, recently got another from the local mac guy, PC100, 256mb, and the Mac only reads it as 128mb. What's up with that? And what do I need? And where do I find it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi James,
I wager the chip that shows up at 1/2 its rated size in a hi-density module, with eight devices only on one side. A 256MB module for the Beige needs low-density or 8 devices on EACH side.
I've used one company, Data Memory Systems, exclusively for RAM for over three years and can't complain a bit. I get PC100 RAM by choosing the Blue & White G3 from their selector:
    http://www.datamemorysystems.com/memory-information/256MB_SDRAM_PC100_CL2_DIMM_Apple555.asp
This works great in my Beige G3 and the price is pretty good.
(I have no relation with the mentioned form other than as a happy customer)

  • RAM for 2003 Power Mac?

I am selling 2GB - (4) 512 MB DDR DIMM,P RAM for Power Mac G5 (2005) on ebay since I upgraded to more RAM. Someone asked me if this would work on their Power Mac G5 from 2003. I wasn't sure. Any advice? Thanks!

I would go to http://www.crucial.com/ and select the the specs for by model and processor speed to see if they match up with your ram. I am a PC Tech and I use this site frequently for max ammount ram, number of memory banks and so on. The ram Crucial sold me for my Dual Core G5 works rock solid so I trust thier research.
