RAM getting eatin up - memory leak?

ive been using cs5 for about a week now. Been editign various of clips cineform, jpg, redfiles etc...
Regardless of the session that i create and edit with... Im noticing that after about 15mins of editing my ram slowly starts to get used up. The memory usage slowly climbs up to 7.56gb somthing 7.89 then starts to chug my system and slow evrything now.
Why does it do this?
my specs:
window7 64bit
8gig of ram
raid 0
GTX 470

Not that I'm aware of. I'm not using any Matrox products.
By the way, I noticed that sometimes the process exits properly, but usually it gets stuck. It always exits properly if I click the Exit button on the launch screen instead of opening or creating a project.

  • Suddenly, I'm getting a huge memory leak

    Since somewhere in Firefox version 36 and continuing to the present (ver 37.0.1), I am getting a major memory leak. I am using Mac OS 10.9.5. And this is what I've done so far: reduced the number of tabs (now at about 4 or 5). Have a minimal amount of plugins and extensions. Maybe 5. I've reset Firefox but the leak still occurs.
    This happens when I leave Firefox open overnight. It's only been happening for about the last month. In the morning I find that all my apps have been paused for lack of memory. Looking at the activity monitor I see that my kernel_task is using 9.5GB of memory (when it should be about 1GB). Quitting Firefox solves the problem. But this has never happened before.
    Also, sometimes Firefox will crash saying the Shockwave plugin quit. I have updated to the latest Flash plugin but it still happens.

    The three Add-ons you mentioned are extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).
    Note that an extension like Firefox bug can cause issues with memory leaks.
    If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
    Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
    You can try to close the browsing area and only leave the menu bar visible to see if the leak still happens.
    What I meant above was plugins like Flash or Java (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) that might be used on tabs if you keep the browsing area open with some tabs with web pages.

  • Excel 2011 version 14.4.8 running on an iMac gets "out of memory" messages.

    HELP!!!   Excel 2011 running on an iMac with OS 10.10.2 and 16GB Ram gets "out of memory" messages.  When I monitor processes with "Activity Monitor", I am using less than half of my RAM.  The Excel workbook has many sheets and also some macros.  The basic workbook has been running for about two and half years starting in August 2012 without any problems until I upgraded to Yosemite in early December 2014.  Now I often have to restore the entire file content because it gets corrupted after not being able to save the file because of the "out of memory" message.  I can take a file and its content that ran fine a year ago and run it today and it will eventually get corrupted and get the "Out of memory" message after saving/quitting/re-opening the file any where from 6 to 15 to 25 times.  I think I need to have more memory allocated to Excel, but Yosemite doesn't provide any way for the user to interact with the memory management process.  I have also experienced the very same problem on my MacBook Pro that runs Yosemite.  I have worked file/path name length issues, closely inspected the macros that normally don't run except when activated with a user pressed button, and made sure I don't have any weird links within the workbook or even links to another file outside the workbook.  This problem seems to get worse as a continue to fill up the spread sheet with more financial data.  This Excel workbook is used to manage my club's finances; I am the club treasurer.  I have searched the internet for clues about similar problems and have found none!
    My iMac is a 27-inch, Late 2009 with a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 Processor.  It includes 16GB of 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM.  The hard drive is a fussed 1TB rotating HD with 128 GB SSD.  This hardware has been running for about 27 months.  I am a very advanced Mac user that programs Excel and Filemaker and repairs Macs for others.

    Given the caveat, have you tried reinstall of Office? Your MS Office 2011 may have become corrupted.  After upgrading to Yosemite I had to reinstall my Office 2011.  No crashes.
    The current version of Office 2011 is 14.4.8.
    First - find your Office 2011 install disc with the product key # - and only then remove Office according to MS instructions
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768
    Or go here to DianefromOregon's site for help removing Office 2011:
    http://www.officeformachelp.com/2012/12/office-for-mac-2011-remove-office/
    Then Reinstall from DVD
    Then enter your Product #
    After successfully reinstalling Office 2011,  update your Office product using the Software update within Office called Microsoft Update or going to the Help menu within Word or Excel or PowerPoint and select Update.
    It may take a few times before you get to final upgrade to current Office version.
    It should be 14.4.8 as of current date.

  • Memory Leak with JVM.

    Hi,
    I am getting a jvm Memory Leak when i try to load and parse XMLs. The version of JDK is 1.4.1_05. Has anyone faced this problem?
    Any pointers to this will be very helpful.
    Thanks
    Rajdeep

    There is at least one bug associated with xml (although not because of it) which usually makes an appearance in long running applications.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=31&thread=351925
    If this is an internal application you could conceivably replace the StringBuffer class yourself to fix this.

  • Memory leak issue in iPhone app

    We developed a little program to display PDF's on the iPhone, but it's crashing after scrolling through xx number of pages with low memory error. The app runs fine in the simulator but crashes on the original iphone. I ran the memory leak debugger tool from xcode and got the following:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/momopi/MiscCollection#5384555524546579922
    (click on magnify glass tool to zoom in)
    Weird part is when I run the same on iphone simulator I only get 2 small memory leak warnings (128 bytes each), but on the iphone I get a lot more warnings and it crashes.
    Has anyone seen anything like this?

    Perhaps you don't have any meaningful leaks. Your program could simply consume too much memory. It has been many years since keeping a small memory footprint was important. Now that Apple has thrown embedded programming to the masses, everyone has forgotten about that.

  • Memory Leak using XMLSocket

    Hi all,
    I have a simple example of opening a socket that receives
    information every 20-30 seconds and it works fine but I get a
    constant memory leak if I leave it running. I found someone else
    had this problem at
    http://www.actionscript.org/forums/showthread.php3?t=111750
    but they did not seem to get a resolution. Any ideas?
    Here are the code snippets:
    public function openConnection():void {
    socket = new XMLSocket();
    socket.addEventListener(Event.CONNECT, onConnect);
    socket.addEventListener(DataEvent.DATA, onData);
    socket.connect("myhost", 61000);
    public function onConnect(event:Event):void {
    trace ("socket connected");
    public function onData(event:DataEvent):void {
    trace("got data");
    trace(event.data);
    var url:String = event.data.toString();
    var response:XML = new XML(event.data);
    trace(url);

    OK, I found the answer, it has nothing to do with the socket
    connection:

    Really though -- why has this not been fixed in the Image

  • HUGE memory leak when using MP3

    I downloaded a new FME 2.0 and noticed they added an option
    to stream in MP3 format. DO NOT USE that mode (!). If you start
    streaming in MP3 format you will get a huge memory leak on the
    client side. Your browser starts eating memory like crazy and it
    will bury your machine withing an hour or two by taking all the
    memory available. I have proved it on several machines, notifed
    Adobe. They confirmed it as a bug and promised to fix in the future
    releases. Nice, huh? and what people are supposed to do with the
    current build?

    A new build 2.0.1.1114 has been posted . Please try and let
    us know if you face this issue with this build.

  • Memory Leak - MouseEventHandler

    When using MouseEvenHandler with reportAllTargets and onMouseMove, I noticed that the amount of memory that Acrobat uses continues to creep up and eventually the whole application freezes and then crashes.  This occurs even if you have a blank onEvent function that does absolutely nothing.  I understand that reportAllTargets is resource intensive but is there a way to get around this memory leak?  Is there a way to periodically flush application memory?

  • I am getting a memory leak that sometimes leads to an unresponsive Firefox, but does not crash per se.

    Hello, For the last couple of months, I am having issues with one of my tabs or the program itself causing a memory leak. I was hoping that subsequent releases would fix the problem, but when I downloaded V.11 it did not help.
    I use tab mix plus and at any time, usually have about 25 tabs open. Everything functioned okay for 8 or so months up until recently.
    I am wondering if there is a way to try to track down what is causing the leak. If it is one of my open pages, i will get rid of it. I tried opening one page at a time from scratch, but could not find the issue. .
    I always have flash block enabled to cut down on the website junk.
    using OSX firefox v11.

    Now, I'm not going to say it's an Add-On problem because from the research I've been doing on this problem for the last half hour shows that everyone has DIFFERENT add-ons, but everyone's having the SAME problem....
    So I went through my add-ons and disabled them one by one, and the single add-on that has been giving me grief is the latest WOT add-on. So, I have Firefox 11 (so does my wife) and we both have the WOT add-on. But that's where the similarity ends... I have Windows 7 x64, she has Windows XP x86.... but she doesn't have the memory leak problem.
    What I see is a sawtooth pattern over time. Memory goes up a little over 30+ seconds, then drops down. But over half an hour, the peaks of the sawtooth are larger, and it doesn't drop back down to the same level again - always a little more than before. And before you know it, FF is peaking at 1.5+GB, dropping down to 1.2GB... and FF is running very, very slowly.... excessive disk accesses (paging probably, though I apparently I still have 1.5 to 2.0 GB of free RAM). Killing FF frees it all up, and if I open FF again, it's back to using 250MB of RAM.
    So, it's not the add-ons per se, but how they're interacting with FF (or the other way round).... most likely, it's this plug-in container they created to stop add-ons from taking FF with them when they crashed. Seems to have created more problems than it has solved..... would be great if you could choose not to use it....

  • Type "purge" in Terminal and get:   -bash: purge: command not found   Is there another built-in command to clear memory leaks?   want to clear memory periodically

    I have 10.6.8.  When I type "purge" in Terminal I get:   -bash: purge: command not found   Is there another built-in command to clear memory leaks?   I have FreeMemory (works well) and considering FreeMemory Pro, to clear memory periodically, say every 20 minutes, or preferably when a threshold is reached, say when only 100MB is available.

    To get purge to work you need to install Xcode from Optional Installs on the 10.6 install DVD. Also be sure you install CHUD Tools with it.
    But running purge or anything like it is pointless if within a short period of time the VM just grows back again. Sounds like you need more RAM.
    Where are the memory leaks? Just because the VM reaches a certain size doesn't necessarily mean it's from a memory leak.

  • Firefox 4 still suffering from a serious memory leak, ends up using 2GB of RAM on 5 tabs and a few plugins?!!

    Why does even Firefox 4, which was supposed to have this issue fixed by now, still suffer from memory leaks?
    I opened up 4-5 tabs, enabled Firebug to tweak a few pages, and an hour later Firefox usage is up to 2GB of RAM?
    What a...?!
    Now, seriously, if you run to suggest that it is most likely due to add-ons and that I should disable them all and start Firefox in safe mode, let me just cut you off right there and ask you this - out of millions of people who downloaded this browser, who the hell uses it without any plugins and/or in safe mode?
    If you're gonna make a browser, make it so that it's lean and free of these issues to begin with, out of the box AND in case an addon or something else is added to it - can't they protect the core files and libraries from being victims to this, in case the addons are to blame?
    And in case it's a Firefox issue to start off with, seriously, can you get a dedicated developer to look into this alone and get it fixed, once and for all?

    I have six tabs open and generally have 3-5. It's been sitting here since last night. I'm using 296Mb ram which is high for me on Windows. My wife and son both use FF4 also and, having just checked, are between 210 and 268Mb respectively.
    No one I know ever complains about high memory usage in FF4 and neither have I experienced it since FF2.5 when memory leaks any user would notice were all fixed.
    So my advice is the same. If your add-ons aren't causing you problems, fix your system.

  • ADO memory leak when getting Recordset from an Oracle stored procedure?

    I am programming in C++ (VC 6) and using ADO 2.7 to
    access Oracle 9i database. My connection string looks
    like this:
    Provider=MSDAORA.1;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=scott;Password=tiger;Data Source=blahblah
    I have Oracle stored procedure that returns data in a
    REF CURSOR output parameter. Since the stored procedure
    takes input parameters, I prepare a Command object with
    Parameters initialized and attached to it. I use the
    Recordset Open method to execute the call. This approach
    works because I get correct data back from the call in
    the Recordset, but the problem is when I do this in a
    infinite loop and watch the process in Windows Taks
    Manager, I see 4k or 8k memory delta all the time and
    the Peak Memory Usage of the process keeping going up.
    I hope someone knows something in this scenario and points
    me to the right direction.

    Whenever large numbers of BSTRs are allocated and freed quickly the process memory will continue to climb towards a stabalizing value. BSTRs are not freed until the system frees them. You can see this by making many calls allocating and freeing BSTRs, memory will climb, but when you stop for a while the gargage collection of the sys strings will take place. I've done much research to see that a server doing many queries very rapidly is not leaking memory, but out pacing the garbage collection, it will stabilize and when the process has some "rest time" the processes memory usage will decline.
    In my research a suspected memory leak was not one.

    I'm using the oracle ODBC driver 8.05.10 with MFC and client version 8.0.5. In my experience you can't prevent memory leaks with that or earlier versions of the ODBC driver. Client patchkits or service packs for NT or the Visual Studio doesn't solve the problem.
    The following code will result in a memory leak with the oracle driver. With every expiration of the timer the leak will grow.
    void CTestOdbcOracleDriverDlg::OnTimer(UINT nIDEvent)
    TCHAR errString[255];
    //open the database with class CDatabase
    //use of CRecordset
    TRY {
    //my table name is AL_ALARME_LOG
    pMyRecordset->Open(CRecordset::dynaset,"SELECT * FROM AL_ALARME_LOG",CRecordset::none);
    //do something with the data
    Sleep(0);
    pMyRecordset->Close();
    CATCH_ALL(error) {
    error->GetErrorMessage(errString,255);
    DELETE_EXCEPTION(error);
    END_CATCH_ALL
    CDialog::OnTimer(nIDEvent);
    The same code with the Microsoft ODBC driver
    doesn't cause memory leaks.

  • Firefox 4.0.1 is using 130 - 160mb of memory on Win7 and I'm getting a memory low error. Is there a memory leak on Firefox

    I start getting a memory low warning in Windows 7 and the task manager shows Firefox as 130mb peaking at 160mb. Surely this is much too high and I wondered if there was a creeping memory leak going on. I've disabled most add-ons

    Sorry didn't noticed it was solved.

  • Bad RAM memory (memory leak) on Macbook Air

    I have a recent issue with my Macbook Air (2GB, 120 GB, bought two years ago, used as main laptop, upgraded to Mountain Lion 6 months ago):
    Even though I run the same applications as before (Safari, Office for Mac, Calendar, iTunes, so nothing too heavy like Photoshop, Final Cut, or Autocad), I started receiving a warning message saying that there isn't enough memory to perform the applications.
    I have 2GB RAM - which has always been enough for what I do. Also, my HD has 20GB of free space (from 120 GB), which also seems to be fine. It has performed well under much worse HD conditions.
    I have noticed that things get even worse, when I open Office for Mac or Utilities - System Monitoring, Disk Utility (!!!)
    I read that many people have faced a similar problem, and I have already tried everything that was suggested in their discussions:
    - purge
    - deleting calendar agent (someone said it could be caused by exchange calendars etc)
    - Alt (Options)+R / Command+P while rebooting
    - deinstalling Skype and Dropbox
    I have just installed Memory Booster and Memory Clean from the Appstore - they automatically clean up the Inactive RAM when my free memory gets too low. This seems to have sorted things for now, but both applications have to do cleaning every 3-5 min.
    Right now, with only Safari running (in addition to Memory Booster), my stats are ridiculous:
    - Free: 11MB
    - Inactive: 739 MB
    - Active: 744 MB
    - Wired: 298 MB
    Virtual memory is steadily above 1GB...
    I would really appreciate some help/advice. There is no apple service center in my city...
    Thank you in advance!

    What is the exact text of the message you are receiving?
    My guess would be that your problems are twofold. First, 2 GB of RAM is bare minimum for Mountain Lion. If you were running Snow Leopard before, you will be able to do less on the same amount of RAM with Lion or Mountain Lion. If you are running all those apps you mention at the same time, you need more than 2 GB of RAM.
    In addition, if your hard drive is running out of free space, you may be having an issue because of that as well. Your machine needs free hard drive space to store things like virtual memory swap files. How much space is free on your hard drive?
