RAM limitation / Hardware Reserved

Been playing around with the 64bit win10TP and its great so far, except that in 'system properties'  it says "Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (3.20 GB usable)"  is their a limit of ~4GB in the x64 TP, why is it showing this?
using amd A10 cpu, mobo supports up to 16GB (more details on request, if needed), cmd reports windows version 6.4.9841

Hi cracksman,
Hardware Reserved Memory that is reserved for use by the BIOS and some drivers for other peripherals.
In your situation, the problem may occur because the system BIOS is outdated or incompatibility issue. If you have an older computer, the system may be unable to access all the installed RAM. In this case, you have to update the system BIOS to the latest
version.
To update the BIOS on your computer, visit the Web site of your computer manufacturer to download the BIOS update. Or, contact your computer manufacturer for help.

  • 4358 Mb of my 8 Gb RAM are hardware reserved

I have HP Pavilion dv7-4102er. Bought in 2011. I was trying to fix this issue over last year, but didn't found any solution in the whole Internet. I'm shure it's not video card reserved RAM, because it has it's own 1 Gb of RAM, and integrated videochip have less than 1 Gb.
I payed for 8 Gb of RAM and what I get?
    I got this:

As I thought. With 1 stick in bottom slot (top slot still not working at all, system didn't start with only 1 stick in it) hardware reserved memory is only 262 Mb, it's totally normal amount, i think (maybe integrated videochip using it).
So, now we see, that top slot didn't work at all, BUT Windows still see it, and marking as "Hardware Reserved"... Damit mistery
Looks like a BIOS bug. Have you tried a hard reset??

  • Hardware Reserved RAM

I have 8GB of RAM installed on my motherboard and Windows shows that half of it is "hardware reserved." My BIOS (Click 4) only reads half of the installed RAM amount. I have tried adding my friend's RAM to the system and the same thing happened again, half of the RAM was hardware reserved the BIOS only read half of the ram. I am sure that the RAM is good because it ran fine on my friend's computer.
I have tried everything that I have read online: flash the BIOS, rearrange the RAM in every configuration, trying each stick individually, unchecking the Max                       Memory box in advanced boot options in msconfig, ran Memtest, manually set RAM timings in BIOS, reseating the APU, wiped my HDD and reinstalled Windows
My rig:  A10-5800K Trinity Quad Core 3.8GHz APU with Radeon (TM) HD Graphics
A88-G45 Gaming Motherboard (Click 4 BIOS version 1.60)
                G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
EVGA GTX 960 2GB (also tested this issue with an R7 250X)
                EVGA 500W PSU
                Windows 7 Professional SP1
I have read that this motherbaord chipset automatically detects APUs and dedicates RAM to that, but is it possible to bypass that feature so that all of my RAM is    usable? Or maybe a way to disable the graphics driver on the APU? If this feature is not the problem, then what might it be?
Thank you ahead of time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any way to determine which part specifically is the issue? Like disabling the integrated graphics? I don't know if I can return the APU if it is the problem because I don't have the original packaging and it was purchased a few months ago.
Is there anything in the MSI BIOS that is similar to this at 1:56?

    One more question
My User Guide of Mother Board  says "DUE TO RESOURCE DEPLOYMENT ,THE SYSTEM DENSITY WILL ONLY BE DETECTED UP 7+GB(NOT FULL 8GB) WHEN EACH DIMM IS INSTALLED WITH A 2 GB MEMORY MOUDULE"
i have 4 dimms and now it says that max is 8gb ...and i cannot keep directly 8gb ram in a single slot ...i have to keep 2+2+2+2 ...
So my max limit is 8 gb ....correct me if  i am wrong guys ...

  • Windows 7 hardware reserved memory way too much!

    hi guys,
i've never had this problem before, my windows 7 used to utilize all my ram, since my hdd crashed and i got a new one i bought extra ram, my motherboard can support up to 16gb ram unbuffered, i have a 64bit windows, i updated my bios, yet my windows still
uses only 4gb of my 12gb ram, and i found that the memory reserved for hardware is an astonishing 8gb, i followed all the guidelines i could find on the forums and still can't fix it, i saw that others encountered this problem asswell, how can i fix this?
any pointers or solutions out there? would installing an older version of windows perhaps solve this problem? like xp pro? thanks in advance

    Hi,
The Hardware Reserved memory is reserved for use by the BIOS and some drivers for other peripherals. Therefore, I suggest updating BIOS and all possible devices' driver
    from manufacture's site.
I would like you to know the Hardware Reserved memory mostly depends on hardware.

  • Hardware reserved memory in Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

I have 162 GB of memory installed in my Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit server.  However, it is showing 32GB is hardware reserved.  I've reseated the memory chips to no avail.  Any suggestions on what I could do to be able to use the 32GB
    of memory?

    Hi Everyone,
I realise this is an old thread however while searching for a solution to my problem related to memory being hardware reserved this thread continually popped up in my search results so this
seemed a good a place as any to post my answer.
I lost a whole day's production at my company so would have loved to find the answer quickly.
Firstly I am running Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise Edition
I have 96 GB of RAM installed and up until a routine scheduled reboot the night before all was running normally with only 60Mb or so in the hardware reserved list.
The following morning I was notified that no one could connect to any of the VM's that normally run on this machine.
Further inspection showed they were all stopped and that only 4GB of RAM was available to the host operation system, shown in Task Manager. Resource Monitor showed that all remaining RAM (~94GB) was listed as "Hardware Reserved"
I don't think it would have mattered how much RAM I had. All but 4GB would have been reserved.
After many hours on the phone with my Hardware Vendor and with Microsoft (paid support call) Microsoft recommended that I remove my License Key and Reinstall it again then reactivate.
Note: Not a single indication anywhere that my server was not activated or licensed correctly.
Actually no error messages of any significance at all.
Surprise, Surprise this solved the problem. I had found absolutely nothing about this problem anywhere on the net.
The Microsoft technician said there were other cases of this problem on their internal database.
The steps to remove and reinstall the license key are listed in the following article
KB FF793433 (for some reason I can't post the link)
The actual steps performed on my server were
    slmgr /upk (uninstall product key)
    slmgr /cpky (clear registry setting)
slmgr /ipk xxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx (Your Product key goes here, dashes included)
slmgr /rilc (re install liencecse file)
    slmgr /ato (automatic updates)
    Reboot the Machine
I hope this post helps someone solve their problem quicker than it took me.

  • Hardware Reserved Memory НР G62-b16st

    Hi,
My Resource Monitor is showing that Windows uses 587Mb of my RAM Memory as a Hardware Reserved Memory. I guess that this is due to the internal video card. However, this model has an additional ATI video card with a 1GB of dedicated memory. So I think that allowing the on-board video card to consume almost 600Mb of my RAM is a waste because I do not use it. How can I reduce the amount of this reseerved memory? I checked the BIOS and it does not have this option.
    Thanks in advance.

64-bit operating systems handle memory more efficiently than 32-bit systems. It is the nature of the beast.
If you have access to a 32-bit OS and the same OS in 64-bit flavor just run benchmarks (Dhrystone ALU, Whetstone and others) and you will see the difference in the numbers.
The downside of a 64-bit Windows OS is that it can be very difficult to find device drivers, especially for legacy devices.
    Best regards,
    erico

  • Hardware Reserved Memory

    Hi
We have a DL580 G7 server, recently we add up some memory to this server. now it has 512 GB RAM
but in task manager it shows 384 GB useable and 128 GB is hardware reserved
what is the hardware reserved and how can I use this 128 GB ?
OS is Windows 2012 Standard x64

I see you have asked the same question at HP forums, and have had a response there from HP staff, probably you will have to follow the guidance from that forum, which has supplied the hardware-specific guidance you need:

  • HP 2000 Notebook CP - Hardware Reserved Memory

    Hi,
I just purhcased a 4GB memory module and installed it in the second slot of my HP 2000 Notebook PC, on top of the factory installed 4GB memory module per the User Guide installed with the system.
    I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit.
My bios registers 8GB, but Task Manager reports only 3.6 GB of useable memory and 4.4 GB Hardware reserved memory.
Please let me know how to correct this to get the new memory into use.
    Thank you.

We need the complete model number. The HP 2000 covers a bit of territory. Some of the models have motherboards with soldered-on CPUs which are not upgradeable, and others are socketed and could be upgraded to an i5 at the top end I believe. Some are Intel and some are AMD. I believe all will take at least 8 gigs of RAM and some may take 16.

  • Is this covered in the limited hardware warranty?

So I droped my iPod today and somehow I bent the metal back of the thing but did not break the glass. The glass is now overhanging the metal in one corner and I can see into the device. It still works perfect, but I dont want the screen to eventually fall out. I still have the limited hardware warranty that comes with every iPod Touch. How much would it cost to get a new back on the device if I were to bring it to an Apple store? Would they even put a new back on the thing?

That is not accurate.  Here is the price list for an out of warranty repair (any damage from accident/abuse is considered out-of-warranty): http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/#us .  It's about half of the price of a new iPod.

  • Kontakt 4 - Does it get around Apple's Logic RAM limitations?

I've read on another board that the new version of Kontakt (4) might be able to get around the 4GB RAM limitation Apple currently have operating in Logic. Is anyone using Kontakt 4 and can they confirm this? If so, what are the results of a like for like test comparing between between Kontakt 3.5 and 4?

    christianobermaier wrote:
32bit applications can not address more than 4Gb RAM, plain and simple.
EXS does spawn separate processes with their own memory allocation so Logic's is not affected by that. Konatkt can do this too. To sort out Play so it can do it as well is EastWest's business I'd say.
While I'd love to see EW improve how PLAY works (and it sounds like they are trying), I'd also like to see Apple try and optimize Logic as well. While a 32 bit Logic can't use more than 4 gigs in theory, in real life use it's far less than that, and many users have found that the ceiling is even lower (and is reached even faster) with L9 than L8.
Also, a 64 bit version of Logic would overcome the limitation as well.

  • Setting ram limits on individual programs/processes

Is it possible to set ram limits on individual programs/processes?
Specifically, can you limit the about of ram gunzip uses whenever it is run?

That helps some, but the true desired effect is to do something similar to virtualizing memory -- I want to be able to say "process x is allowed to work within 512mb of memory," for example.
Thanks for the pointer on setrlimit... It does kill the process if it hits the hard limit? The man page sounds almost like it does what I want, but I guess not.

  • G505S - 8GB Increased to 16GB - Hardware Reserved

Hello, I purchase a G505S on ebay a few months back and it came with 8GB memory.
I later ordered a match stick of 8GB memory to make it 16GB
Windows can see it as being 16GB installed, however it says the 8.8GB of this memory is "Hardware Reserved"
This is driving me mad. I have contacted the seller, been on many forums and no one seems to have a solution to get my full 16GB memory in use. Some people say its on the GFX card instead but that is still saying 768mb
I have tried removing and swapping them around, i have also tried the one touch restore button, which doesnt actually work. It just reboots my laptop and goes back into windows.
    Few details below:

    Product: 20255
