Ram/macbookpro

Hi, I have up graded my Mac book pro to 16 GB of RAM, but it is still running out of free memory, any ideas? I'm using photoshop, lightroom and Bridge.

In Activity Monitor, is there any green or blue still showing?  If yes, you are still in good shape.  If the 'Page Outs' are still 10% less that 'Page Ins' you are also in good shape.  Additional RAM, if possible, would not make any difference.
Ciao.

  • Better Specs MacBook Pro at Apple Stores

Hi. I live abroad, but I'm going to travel this weekend to the US and I'm interested in a MacBookPro Retina Display but I want it increased RAM to 16 GB. As far as I know, one can only enhance a Mac through the online store which only accepts US Credit Cards. So, my question is: Do you have 'enhanced' macbooks at the stores or, definitely, the only way I have to purchase a 16 GB of RAM MacBookPro Retina Display is through the online store? Note that the second option makes it impossible for me to purchase one, because I have no US Credit Card. Which are my options?
By the way, I have the same question with the MacBook Air of 8GB (no matter the screen size), are they available at the Apple Stores or just through the online stores?
    Thank you.

  • QT 7.5.5 or not?

    hi
i updated my OS to 10.5.5 and wondering, if anyone updated to QT 7.5.5 ( running same configurations as i do) successfully?
    maintools:
LogicPro 8.02, FinalCut Studio 2, (all included apps), QT Pro, Adobe CS 2.
    hardware (bought early 2008):
desktop 2 x quadcore 2.8 GHz, (6 GB Ram); macbookpro dual 2.4 GHz (4 GB Ram)
    regards
    christian

It continues to amaze me in this day of cheap external drives and a plethora of used models that someone would have only "one" machine.
Installing an OS on a drive partition and moving some "slow to update" third party software to it lets you have your cake and eat it, too.
I still have access to QuickTime Pro versions 5, 6 and 7 (various levels of updates). I even have version 6 and 7 Pro available to me on my newest machine and OS.
I also have a simple "two day" rule regarding Software Updates. I spend two days searching these Discussions pages for issues and concerns. When things are "safe" I update.
Since QuickTime is a "System" component you may need more than one OS to maintain compatibility with your expensive third party apps. Since your list only includes Adobe CS 2 I would have two partitions to use. Leave the "old" one as it last worked and create another to test the update. Things don't work now? You have your backup OS to keep creating things until the issues are worked out (with another update to test).

  • Enabling / Disabling Email accounts during working Hours

    All,
I have my work email and personal email coming in to the same account under Mail. I am finding on weekends i am getting new email into my work account (nothing abnormal there) but worst i am reading and responding to them - i.e. should be enjoying the weekend not working but the self discipline is lacking and temptation to read them is just too much!
i would like an automatic way to either exclude the work email being received during Sat / Sun or find a way (thought about script excuted from iCal) that could disable / enable work email Friday night / Monday morning. Either that or any configurable app that allows me similiar control over the accounts
Any ideas on best ways to acheive.
    Many Thanks

Sorry for clarification - i have two email accounts, both going into a single Mail under a single user login; ones a .Mac account, one's an IMAP account connecting to work.
They already both go to individual mail boxes so i don't need to set up rules to split, the issue i am trying to get around is avoiding looking at new email that arrives in my work email box during the weekends.
Please don't get me wrong, its an irritation i would like to avoid rather than a system critical issue so refinement being the objective purely with geek-hat on rather than desperate-user.
    Any thoughts on solving welcomed!

  • Panasonic's AVCCAM Importer for QT7 & FCP7 - workin' for anybody?

This was just released today. Supposedly you can open AVCAM native footage (.m2ts) in QT7 and FCP7 after installing it. Followed install instructions but...
Doesn't work for me. Anybody had any luck using it?
From Panasonic PASS Support Team e-mail:
NEW UTILITY: AVCCAM Importer for Mac (Free download) is now available
The AVCCAM Importer plug-in component for QuickTime 7 is to enable
direct playing-back of AVCCAM clips without conversion.
(Compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 SnowLeopard only)
In Apple Final Cut Pro 7.0.3, direct import of AVCCAM clips and
realtime preview on a timeline is possible, without conversion.
And to view AVCCAM clips, you just simply need QuickTime player7,
do not need to start up Nonlinear editing system.

    John,
I can report that the importer seems to work as advertised on my Macbook pro 2.7 GHz, 8 GB RAM (FCP 7.0, QT10.0) even though the minspecs from the release notes (below) the required FCP is 7.03 or better.
It does not work on my imac 2.93 GHz 4GB RAM (FCP 7.03, QT 10.0)
I have been reading multiple release notes and have found a few interesting passages.
Note that my iMac is not listed on the release notes as a "Tested Mac computer," but your MacPro seems to be. Note this proviso as well: "Even if the system requirements mentioned in these operating instructions are fulfilled, some systems cannot be used."
Lastly they offer this too: "Operation is not guaranteed for software other than listed above. Operation of QuickTime 10.0 using this software is not guaranteed on Mac OS X 10.6."
I had been thinking of reverting to QT 7 from QT 10 - but now I just don't know. Maybes another forum participant will have some more information. Thanks for continuing the thread I sure would like to edit AVCCAM on my iMac.

  • Curing noisy input?

A recent problem has developed for me with Logic Express - when I click on the Record Enable button on a track a LOT of latent background noise leaps out at me. This is present with my mic inputed, a line input - and, wait for it - even NO input connected at all....hmm.... It's a loud hiss, and if I record with no lead into my MacBookPro at all you see a noisey waveform. As I've got to prepare backing tracks for a theatre performance this is very worrying and I don't know what to do - has anyone got any bright ideas? Many thanks.
MacBookPro 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1GB RAM

Hi Rob - thanks for your interest.
I'm using the internal sound card on my MacBookPro (Intel, new last May).
I've just unplugged the power adaptor, and that DOES REDUCE the hissing in Record Enable (thanks!), but unfortunately it's still there enough to be a problem...the record level is flickering noisily away with no input, and makes any recording sound amateurishly noisy....
I've tried other leads and it's STILL noisy in Record Enable - suggesting it's not an external hardware problem. Could it be to do with the settings either in Logic Express or the MacBookPro itself?
It wasn't noisy like this before and I haven't (knowingly) altered any settings.
(I used to use Cubase on a G4 and never had these noise problems then, but Logic is relatively new to me).
Anyone got any more bright ideas?

If you can buy from Crucial, Amazon or macsales (OWC), I would (I know that Crucial and OWC ship internationally but I don't know about Amazon). Both have lifetime guarantees for their products and should not be affected at all during shipping.
Amazon has a better price on the Crucial RAM than even Crucial, by the way.

  • Ram Problem in Macbookpro 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Hi, could anyone help me please with the following:
My my MacBookPro 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo ran with 1 Gb Ram. I've upgraded at an Official Macstore in Romania, to 4 Gb Ram. After two months suddenly I have Kernel Panics (full shutdown of computer in whatever program I use, like firefox, finalcut, transfering data to a disk, all possible situations have caused the grey screen to drop) as the reports show, with a variety of reasons, mostly linked to the programs I was using at the moment - but it did it, as mentioned, with all kinds of programs.
I reinstalled the OS, same situation. I exchanged my Hard Disk, same situation. Checked ventilators, heatsinks, etc etc., nothing ch
So lastly, I exchanged Ram units from slots, same situation. Then I decided to test the individual Ram units. What gives? It works perfectly with only one slot in use with one unit of 2 Gb Ram. Doesn't matter what slot, doesn't matter what Ram I use, it works as long as I don't put both Ram units at the same time. ld
Could anyone please give me an explanation for this strange phenomenon? The thing is, I need the extra Ram for HD video editting, so I am desperate.
Also: what could cause this problem? Is it something I can exchange/repair etc?
    Thank you very much,
    tudor

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 15" Snow Leopard Quadcore icore 7 with 8Gb of RAM and Im a Webpage Graphic Designer but why is my Macbookpro is so slow!?
I'm opening like Skype, AIM, Chrome the Memory Hog, Adobe Photshop and Illustrator...  Its so slow! I tried Onyx, CleanMyMac, iFreeMemory or just purging  but still i still have to restart to get it back to normal after closing all the applications... im not really impressed with the memory swapping thing,Even though my inactive RAM is like 2GB its so SloW! Anyone knows how to fix this problem?

It's hard to say why your machine is slow, but that machine with 8 GB of RAM should not be slow.  Could be any number of possible problems.  Try taking a look at the Mac OS X Speed FAQ.

  • RAM not available for new macbookpros?

on the crucial site they claim to have the RAM for the new macbook pros, but it is the 204pin not the 200pin the user manual suggests. what gives? is there anywhere out there selling the 200 pin DDR3 RAM (besides apple) needed for the new macbookpros?

I think that this 200-pin nonsense is perhaps a typo in the manual:
Each memory slot can accept an SDRAM module that meets the
    following specifications:
Â Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR3) format
    Â 1.25 inch (3.18 cm)
    Â 1 GB or 2 GB
    Â 200-pin
    Â PC3-8500 DDR3 1066 MHz Type RAM
You can add two 2 GB memory modules for a maximum of 4 GB of memory. For best
performance, fill both memory slots and install an identical memory module in each
    slot.
That being said, I have been using this: http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?imodule=CT2KIT25664BC1067 for about a week and a half with no problems whatsoever. That memory meets the requirements in the late 2008 macbook pro manual, the only exception is the pins.

  • Add 2GB RAM DD3 to the MacBookPro G5 with 2 GB embedded

    Hi,
I know that there are some issue if I upgrade my MacBookPro with 2 GB more RAM. Do you know it Apple released a patch or If there are some workaround? I need 4gb of RAM to work with photo and graphic software. Thanks!!

There's no such thing as a "MacBook Pro G5" - please be more specific about the model you have. Go to Apple menu > About this Mac and check exactly what's listed as your Processor.
If it's Intel Core Duo, your limit is 2 GB. If it's Intel Core 2 Duo, your limit will be 3 GB or 4 GB, depending on processor speed (2.0/2.16/2.33 GHz have a 3 GB limit, 2.2/2.4/2.5/2.6 have a 4 GB limit).
Machines with a 2 GB limit will not boot with more than 2 GB. There's no 'patch' or 'workaround' other than buying a new computer. Machines with a 3 GB limit can have 4 GB installed, but will only actually use 3.2 GB of the installed memory.

  • Macbookpro 5.1 SSD and RAM

I have a MacBookPro 5.1 and would like to change the disk to ssd and increase the ram. What is the maximum ram can i put and which disk ssd and ram ideal?
2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB 1067 MHz DDR3
The ram has to be 1067MHz or can be 1066 or 1333?
    Thank you.

You can install up to 8GB of RAM - make certain that it is the correct RAM - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs. I would suggest either OWC or Crucial for good Mac RAM.
As for an SSD, most available now are 6.0 Gbps (SATA III) and your machine only has a 3.0 Gbps (SATA II) bus. Nonetheless, SATA III is backwards compatible with SATA II.
See my one and only user tip about upgrading to an SSD -> https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4741.

  • Early 2011 macbookPro RAM capacity

I'm considering upgrading the memory of my 13' MacbookPro. It's an early 2011 model with a 2.7GHz i7 processer, MacbookPro model 8,1.
The manuel and apple support says it's only compatible up to 8GB, but other websites say it's compatible up to 16.
    Naturally that confuses me.
On a related note, the Apple store sells the 8GB upgrade for $200 but most other outlets sell it for under $100. Is the price differential due to an actual quality difference?

16 GBa is the unofficial maximum.
Price differences are simply related to the fact that Apple guarantees the RAM and installation. Third-party RAM is only protected by the manufacturer's warranty. You install it yourself. If you screw it up Apple won't fix it under your warranty.

  • Trouble booting MacBookPro (13" mid 2010) after upgrading ram?

My MacbookPro 13 inch mid 2010 will not boot after upgrading the ram. I just upgraded to mountain lion a week ago. I also upgraded my hard drive a month ago. I reverted back to the stock ram and it booted fine. But when I use the new Crucial 8GB (2x4GB DDR3_1333 PC3 10600 SODIMM 204 pin) ram kit, it just hangs in the white boot up screen, while the little grey refreshing dashmark circle is going around. Any ideas of how to get it to boot with the ram I have? Or could it just be faulty ram that I need to get a refund on?
    Thanks

Your Mac actually is supposed to use 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs. Sometimes faster modules will work, sometimes they won't. In your case it looks as if the faster RAM isn't working. Crucial should exchange it for your without any problems. You their System Scanner tab at Crucial and find out what memory is 'right' for your Mac and swap what you have for that.

  • How much RAM do I need in my new MacBookPro?

I think I need to add more RAM to my MacBook Pro. I've been using it for a couple of months now and I'm tired of running so slow. Things are fine until I have several applications open or whenever I try to run any Adobe Creative Suite programs.
So, my question is: how much RAM should I buy? My 1.83 MacBook Pro has the standard 512 MBs of RAM that came with it. I'd prefer to keep the cost low, so would buying one more 512 MB stick be enough? I am processing 8 Megapixel RAW images in Photoshop. Will 1 MB total be enough?
Also, do I have to have the two slots matched? Can I put a 1GB stick next to my 512 MB stick?
    Thanks,
    Laura

512+512 is better than 1gb + 0 - because of the ddr2 effect in the same way that 256+256 is better than 512+0, but not better than 512+256
512 + 1gb is better than 512 + 512 because you have more ram which outweighs the performance benefit of the two dimms.
The way to tell is to run activity monitor (from applications), click and hold the dock icon and turn it into a memory pie chart. You'll see how much ram you are using (tip - free ram is the total of free (green) + inactive (blue). If you are only occasionally running right out you might get by with 1gb total.
Also, economically, you'll be able to get a 512 for about $45-50 as people upgrade, whereas the 1gb chip will cost (at the moment - over $100 for generic and $150+ for one that is the same model as Apple supply - these prices do change and right at the moment there is a shortage of DDR2. - If you do want to buy one, post back and I can give you some hints on where and what to look out for). I'm awaiting a machine next week and will be posting 2 512's on craigslist in your(our) region, as do many others who upgrade so it's not a bad way to get ram - from another mbp owner who is upgrading to 2 x 1gb - and it's normally been tested for a few days.
Also, not a bad idea to have a look to see which chip Apple have put in their already and post back.
    Best of luck.
