RAM not being recognized what it should.

I recently bought 4 x 4GB 800 MHZ modules, but only 2 are recognized as 4GB the other 2 shows as 2GB but all at 667MHZ when it should be 800MHZ, can any one tell me what the issue is?
Thanks

Send them back. If new RAM - by itself - does not work - the set should be returned.
If any one DIMM is 667 then they all will have to downclock

Not sure about that brand Komputerbay $89 2x4GB
Otherwise,  667Mhz is much cheaper and works just fine in a 2008 3,1 along with filling all 8 DIMM slots works to improve performance so much so that even the small 4% difference is not a factor and you come out ahead.
I use these: 8 x 2GB $92

Cheapest I have seen, might need to set the fans to 900 rpm

4 x 4GB $160

You were sold a set and they are not what they were suppose to be and there is no quick fix other than to replace and have a correct set sent out.

  • Possible RAM Solution -Upper/Lower RAM not being recognized for Al 1.25

I was poking around on my 1.25Ghz Al pb (seemed sluggish) with 1.25 GB RAM, when I noticed that only 1 GB was being recognized. I had a 256 MB chip in the lower slot and a 1 GB in the upper. I accessed the RAM bay and reseated both chips. Upon rebooting, 1GB was still only being recognized (I was very, very thourough on the reseating, spent 5-10 minutes on it) Panic was starting to set in, whether the 256 went south (best possible outcome) or the lower slot was borked. I decided to test the lower slot and swap the RAM positions. I reseated with the exact same care, and prepped a reboot. Upon rebooting, all was restored. 1.25 GB was recognized, and all was well with the the universe. Any ideas as to what had happened? When I swapped the RAM chips, did it get reassociated with the OS? Had the 256MB chip lost it's relationship with the logic board?
(sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum earier, mods please delete prior post)

Hey, whatever mod deleted the reply to this and my subsequent reply to that, why don't you tell me an accurate response? Tell me exactly how working RAM could break the RAM slot it wasn't even plugged into.
Otherwise, Apple is telling a bunch of bull and refusing to admit to a product flaw. Why delete a post speculating on such an issue? All it does is lend credence to the speculation. I believe that it is the case all the more now that you have deleted the posts.

  • RAM not being recognized on iBook G4

    I have a late-2004 iBook G4, 256 mb of memory, 133 MHz, 12-inch screen .
I ordered 1 GB of RAM from Edgetech Corp. Their website assured me it would be compatible with my computer. The description of it is a PC-2100 DDR SO DIMM for Apple.
I've followed all the instructions I've found really carefully (and even went back and double-checked my work to ensure that the RAM was properly placed in there) but my computer won't recognize it. The DIMM I/J7 slot is still empty.
Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?
    Thank you

Does your original stick of RAM still work? If so, and you know the new stick is properly seated and pushed all the way in and won't be recognized, then you could just have a bad stick of RAM. It happens. If you can't get it to be recognized, and the old stick is, then contact the seller for a replacement.
I don't know if there are any problems with that particular brand, but if the seller says it should work, then it should. Talk to them on the telephone to verify that it is the proper RAM, and arrange to exchange it for a new stick.
    Good luck!

  • G4 RAM Not being recognized

I'm trying to install 512 MB sticks of RAM into a G4. It seems to recognize the memory sticks inconsistently. I had three sticks, it only recognized two. I switched the slots then it read one stick but not another. Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips?
Same thing is happening with a G5 except with larger capacity memory sticks.

I have just had similar problems... with help from these boards I managed to fix it.. I think the PRAM reset is the best place to start trouble shooting... restart your machine holding down the Apple+ Alt + P and R keys until you hear three chimes.. then let go of the keys... this cured my problem.
P.S. this will not work with a wireless keyboard, you need one that plugs into a USB port on the back of the Mac, dont use a USB hub, plug it directly into one of the USB ports on the back of the Mac.
    Hope this helps

  • RAM not being recognized?

I have a iMac G5 Built in iSight with a built in 512MB and I have just purchased a 512MB chip from the apple website, after instaling it and checking the "About this Mac" options I see the following under the Memory field.
    "DIMM0/BUILT-IN Size:512 MB Type:Built-in Speed:Built-in Status:OK
    DIMM1/J6700 Size:Empty Type:Empty Speed: Empty Status:Empty"
Is there something I missed? From what I read, all I am supose to do is put the chip into the slot, close it up, and turn it on. Or did I miss something that I should do?

You have the same model G5 iMac as I have. Check the manual that came w/your computer for detailed RAM installation instructions or check out Knowledge Base Article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302506 iMac G5 (iSight): Installing and replacing memory (RAM)

Sorry, didn't notice that you were using OS X.  Here's the troubleshooting steps for a mac:

  • My iPhone 5c is not being recognized by my mac except to charge it. I'm up to date on all updates and don't know what else to do. I have restarted several times. I have even tried to update my iPhoto and I can't even do that with iPhoto 9.0, but can't.

My Iphone 5c is not being recognized by my Mac computer. I have done all of the upates, restarted several times and I'm not sure what else to do. I have searched and searched and searched and have come up with nothing. Also, my Iphoto can not be updated. I'm still using version 8. something, and it won't update without this update and that update. It needs 9.0 but I can't find that download anywhere. The only one that I can find is 9.1. That won't update. Is there anything that I can do, or should I just bite it and take it to apple to get looked at?

Does iTunes not see the phone?
If not, make sure you're running the current version of iTunes.
If you are running the current version and it still doesn't recognize it, see this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
As for iPhoto, you will have to purchase a newer version. It's not a free upgrade. Or, you can use Image Capture, which is built into OS X, to import the photos.

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

  • IPod touch not being recognized by iTunes on my MacBook, and on 2 other PCs

    Hello,
After scouring the web and these discussion forums to no avail, I've decided to post my problem. I downloaded iTunes 8.0 yesterday, and updated the firmware on my iPod Touch to 1.1.5. I tried connecting my iPod, and nothing happened. It is not being recognized by my MacBook. So, I tried using another USB iPod connector, and nothing happened. I tried using a firewire connector, and nothing happened. Frustrated, I tried connecting to my one roommate's HP laptop and see if it would get recognized there - no. I then tried on my other roommate's laptop. The device was recognized to be USB, but iTunes wouldn't go ahead and try and reformat it. I'm starting to lose my mind! I've tried resetting the iPod touch itself loads of times to no success. I've tried restarting while having the iPod connected to the computer, and still nothing.
    What should I do now?

Sorry about not getting to you on the quick-fast, but we aren't Apple employees.
What ended up being the solution you needed, as you said, you couldn't find any information already posted on this problem, so documenting your fix may help someone in the future.
