RAM not showing up
I have an early 2005 Dual 2.7 GHz PowerMac G5. It came with 2 GB of RAM (4 x 512mb). I wanted to upgrade, so I bought two more gigs from Crucial (2 x 1gb). When I install the RAM, however, the computer only recognizes the new 1 gig sticks (no matter what slot they're in. Moving outward, I've tried [512, 512, 1 gig]; [1 gig, 512, 512]; and 512, 1 gig, 512]. Everytime I boot up (even after resetting the PRAM) and open System profiler, it says the slots with the 512 sticks are empty. Any ideas?
When adding RAM on G5s, always put higher density first.
And always clear or reset nvram, either try zapping PRAM/NVRAM after you have it like you want, or boot into Open Firmware via command + option + o + f
reset-nvram
set-defaults
reset-all
(you will need to reset the startup disk)
I prefer OF rather than the old "zap" routine of multiple boots and less effective.

Ram not showing up after resetting nvram
I have a 3rd party battery that was not working properly. The company told me to reset my nvram. Since doing that, one of my memory chips is not showing up. It says "slot empty" and there is no memory there.
I read another post on here that said after updating to 10.4.9, there 3rd party memory disappeared as well. I updated around the same time that I reset the nvram.
I also tried resetting the pram.
I have a 15" aluminum powerbook G4 with os 10.4.9
Thanks for the advice.Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Sorry to hear your memory disappeared. There's no such thing as third party memory - Apple does not manufacture it's own memory, rather it uses memory from company's like Samsung and others.
If it's the lower slot, it could be coincidental, however, there have been issues with the lower slot failing, and Apple has an extended warranty repair program to address it in a narrow range of Powerbooks. Info at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303173 -
Ram not showing up as full ammount.
Hi, I have the late 2004 ibook (30gb, 1.2ghz) with 1.25 GB ram.
However now when I look at the info, only 768MB show up? I have taken out & re-inserted the Ram as well.
Also I have been having power issues. I have reset the PMU, however it seems to not wake up when its put to sleep... Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Scott
ibook late 2004It sounds like your SO-DIMM has experienced a failure. Time to go back to where you bought it and ask for a replacement.

New ram not showing up in MacPro 1,1
I bought new ram for an old MacPro 1,1 and only the old ram shows up. I know the new ram works as I can start my computer with each individual stick but they wont work together. Any idea? I can move my old 512chips to any slot and it works so I’ve ruled out bad slots. The new ram chips work but only one shows up. I have switched them out too and both work so Ihave know idea what’s going on. Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance.Brand A and B not working together or even same but from different batches, can happen.
Each SET will work fine, you can't do "individually".
I've seen people use A1:B1 and A3:B3 which is not supported, yet has worked.
Or all RAM on top Riser.
As far as I know the Risers are interchangeable, there is no "A" and "B" other than "top" and "bottom" and some have had to do an advance exchange and get a new Riser sent out under AppleCare.
Get out your OEM 10.4.7 discs and one of them has Apple Hardware Test, use "command-D" with the DVD in the tray.
No, you don't need a battery.
It just sounds like a defective set. You bought OWC, Crucial, Kingston, Mac Pro certified (and large RAM heatsinks) then just contact seller and have them send them back as DOA. -
RAM not showing up in system properties
I have 3GB installed on my OLD Windows XP
I have noticed lately that when I checked my System Properties it only says 2GB.
But HWINFO32 shows 3GB
I ran memtest86 to see if my ram was failing but it passed.
Any ideas on why it only shows 2GB.
I have an Nvidia 9800 1024MB graphics card if for some reason that is subtracting from my total.
Thanks: GLennI have saved the DXDIAG file and uploaded it.
Does anyone think I should replace the CMOS battery ?
I have not had any problems with my time not working or it turning off and no warnings ?
Also, I have ordered 4 new 1GB Ram sticks so they are all the same speed.
My 2 512's are the slowest and the new ones will be faster then the 2 1GB ones I have there now.
I will pick up a can of air and clean out the unit too since its been over a year since I dusted it off.
Thanks: GLenn
I will paste the info below too.

I just installed new RAM, and it's not all showing up in the system profiler.
Before the upgrade I had:
Riser A
- 1GB
- 0
- 0
- 0
Riser B
- 1GB
- 0
- 0
- 0
After the upgrade I had:
Riser A
- 4GB
- 4GB
- 0
- 0
Riser B
- 1GB
- 1GB
- 0
- 0
But the system profiler only showed 4GB in one DIMM on Riser A, and nothing in Riser B. I switched the 1GB and 4GB units around, and then the Profiler only showed 1GB on Riser A, and still nothing on Riser B.
I switched back once more, having the two 4GB units on Riser A and the two 1GM units on Riser B. System Profiler now shows the two 4GB units, but still nothing from Riser B.
Are there any ideas out there? Is it safe to have only two units showing up both on the same riser?
Thanks for any help.About RAM installation in the Mac Pro
Mac Pro memory arrangement photos
Mac Pro Memory Configuration
Memory Tests- "2008" Mac Pro
Ram should be installed minimally in matched pairs and optimally in matched quads. This means the memory modules are the same size and specifications. They should also be equipped with the Apple-certified style of heat sink.
I'm not sure if you have the memory configured correctly. Check above links to verify. -
RAM not showing up in Profiler
I recently bought a Crucial 512MB PC32000 DDR400 (part no. CT6464Z40B) to be paired with another RAM module from another vendor to put into my Dual 1.8Ghz G5. These two sticks appear to be identical in my daughter's iMac. Profiler says: 512MB PC3200U-30330. When I put this pair in my Power Mac dual 1.8 G5 (4-slot) they are not recognized. I know the non-Crucial RAM is okay because I can pair it some other 512MB SDRAM I have. How can iMac say the pair are identical and yet the Power Mac rejects the RAM?
Hi Mark Lederer-
My guess is that for whatever reason the iMac is not as "picky" about the RAM.
Each subsequent release of OSX has also caused the same phenomenon. Are both machines running the same level of system software?

Ram not showing up in activity monitor
I recently upgraded to 8gb of ram (4x1gb) that came with the computer and (2x2gb) that I just recently bought. I know this isn't the ideal setup for speed but I just wanted more.
While I had activity monitor open tonight I noticed that the RAM that was showing up in use under the System Memory tab didn't add up to 8gb but instead only 5gb. If I view "About this Mac" the correct 8GB shows up and also shows up correctly in System Profiler.
Was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this kind of behavior as well?
Thanks,
AndrewThen there is a difference between Activity Monitor and that shown in About This Mac? I would first check that the RAM is installed correctly. See the following:

I'm puzzled by your profile info. You say your MP is a 3.0 GHz model but you list it as a Mac Pro 1,1. The 3.0 GHz model only started with the 2,1 version. The 1,1 model was only 2.66 GHz.
I would also open System Profiler and see what it reports. If it is reporting 8 GBs, then check in Activity Monitor if it's listed as (64-bit) Intel or just Intel. If the latter then you don't have the current version of Activity Monitor. This might result from doing an upgrade to Snow Leopard as opposed to erasing the drive and doing a fresh installation of SL, especially if the upgrade was done from Tiger rather than Leopard. -
Help! Upgraded RAM not showing up in Vista
I recently added another 4Gb of RAM to my Mac Pro, up from 2Gb. OSX recognises the new total at 6Gb; but Vista does not- it only sees the original 2Gb.
Some more info (if it proves relevant)- Vista Ultimate x32, other than that a stock early 2008 Mac Pro (8 Core).
Any and all help greatly received. Also hoping that I've not missed something really obvious & end up looking like a total noob.
MattAs the other poster said, when you install the 32 bit version of Windows Vista on your Mac Pro, you will only be able to access 2GB of memory. This is apparently a hardware limitation on the Mac Pro.
Since you are using Windows Vista Ultimate, you should also have the 64 bit version of Vista Ultimate on your Vista DVD. Redo the Windows installation by installing Windows Vista x64 and you should be able to access the full 6GB memory in Windows.
Note, however, that some Windows programs may not be compatible with Vista x64. Check whether this is the case first.
If you do not have the 64 bit version of Vista on your Vista DVD, contact Microsoft about getting a copy. You should only be required to pay some shipping fee since you already bought Vista. -
i just purchased 2x 2GB cards and 2x4GB cards and only the 2GB cards are showing. i moved them to different slots and they still show up empty. and solutions?
I realise this thread is finished but I just had a RAM problem and googling it brought me here. I Just thought I'd post my solution in case anyone else should come across this. had 4 x 1gb sticks of crucial ram that wasn't showing up. after almost giving up I noticed that 2 sticks I had paired together were different batch numbers (serial numbers). Swapped them to match each other and presto..all good. So yea both crucial and both 1gb it just liked to be beside the pair it was originally made with. Quite romantic really

After Effects RAM Preview not showing first 50 frames or so - Mac OS
So I'm on a 2012 iMac, and when i RAM preview, it plays audio but video does not show until about 50 or 60 frames in, its like a glitch or lag thats started recently, so it makes ram previewing from a certain time a real pain as i then miss the exact part i want and it c matches up with video a second or two later, i can't find any solutions, please help!!
As Andrew says, Adobe and Apple are working on figuring this bug out. See the known issues section of this page: After Effects good to go with Mac OSX v10.10 (Yosemite)
If you let the RAM preview loop at the end of its playback and play through again, it should be smooth and issue-free. -

Core. i7,750GB HDD 5400rpm, 4gb ram, amd radeon 1gb dedicated graphics with intel hd graphics 3000,antiglare screen when i turned on my laptop and see the specs is not showing the 1gb graph. only 512mb is there anybody out there have the same problem please how can i know or is there any other way to be sure what's the real capacity of my graphics?take note this is brand new late 2011 model made to customize MD311 with anti glare screen...

Luminance preview not showing in "FIT" view.
I have noticed more and more that the luminance and other noise corrections changes do not show at all when in the "fit" view mode. Sure I can zoom in to see the changes, but when I want to view the full image in the screen & see the overall look it takes the changes away.
What's the deal??@Lee Jay
Not sure what you mean by this. The option of luminance has always shown for just about every image, but changes made don't show on the "fit" view option. This is true with both the Develop & Library tabs.
Can't imagine that it's a performance issue with my system...if it is then Adobe is building their programs now for some really extreme-only machines...mine would be considered extreme by most photographers...I'm running with 8 cores (4ghz) 12g ram & running all adobe programs out of their own dedicated velociraptor drive separate from the boot drive. Boot drive & image storage drive are also separate WD Black drives (only because they don't have a 2tb velociraptor drive!) So if it's a performance issue then I'll be really surprised.
Maybe this was happening all along, I rarely & I mean RARELY have the need for noise reduction...this just happened to be a few shots at the wedding where I used available light only & had my ISO up to 3200. I want most of the grain left in there since that's what I was going for, but not all of it. -
Desktop icons not showing up for T60's and T61's
We are having an issue with nearly half (we have a few hundred at out company) of our T60’s and T61’s where they do not show the desktop icons at boot up. If they start the task manager and run explorer then everything pops up like normal. But they will have to repeat this process every time they boot up. We also tried having them turn off the wireless radio via the slider switch but that did not help.
One fix we found was to go C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data and copy the IconCache.db found there over the users IconCache. This fixes the issue for 99% of the people who have this problem, but there are a few that continue to boot up to no desktop items.
The only other fix we have found was to put explorer.exe in the start up folder. This brings up a pop up of their My Documents at start up that they have to close but is much easier than going through the task manager to run explorer.
We also have many T43’s and many Lenovo desktops from M-81, M-82, and M-88’s. none of the desktops show this problem and we have not had this issue with any of the 43’s.
The software packages are essentially the same for all of our systems. The only difference being is that the desktops do not have VPN.
Windows XP sp2
MS Office 2003 standard
IE 6
Adobe Reader 8.1
Lotus Notes 8.1
Sametime 8.0
Cisco VPN 4.6
RealVNC 4
Symantec Antivirus 10.1.5
We run all MS updates and keep the laptops fully patched with Lenovo updates, the only updates we do not use is the ThinkVantage access connections. We install all other system updates in the critical and recommended section.

Start iTunes, remove all your voice memos from your library (back them up if you need them), quit iTunes. Restart Finder. Done. I hope that helps!
