Ram on ipad

I have a ipad1 and it keeps crashing. I installed free memory app and it is telling me that I only have 11mb of ram. I did a complete restore as a new iPad and only installed the free memory app and I still only have 11mb of ram. What can I do to fix this

The assumption that the app actually works may not be so sound. Difficult to say since you do not state what app it is. You might check Pad Info or Status. They seem to work pretty well.
Also, the amount of available memory will depend on what else is running. Even with no additional apps installed, native iOs functions will use some. also, and accurate measure should fluctuate pretty consistantly; otherwise what youare getting is a just a captured snapshot that is only accurate at the time it was captured and may not reflect actual ongoing activity.
It is however, possible yo have a hardware issue, and may want to get it checked by an Authorized Service Center or at an Apple store.

Its just apple tend to give their devices the minimum RAM they can as a sort of a limiting factor, ive had my Ipod touch 4 for 3 years now and its virtually useless now because of the lack of RAM they put in them and i dont want to be paying over 600 pound for something thats not going to run good apps after two years because theres not enough RAM.
Well, any mobile computing device you buy is technically obsolete within a year or less of being released - for any company's products that's true.  And with all of these all-solid state devices, you cannot update the RAM or the storage, so they basically remain useable and supported as long as they do - there really is nothing you can do to avoid that sort of situation.  Smart phones and tablets are evovling at an almost frenetic pace, so nothing in that arena is going to be compatible with the operating systems and apps of newer future devices for very long.
You can maintain your own device's usability for longer by making sure to keep backups of apps & versions of apps that you know do run on your device so you will not be left behind if an App store update drops support for your device and removes the older app version.
And as far as iOS devices, I don't agree that Apple only installs the minimum RAM.  The amount of RAM is going to be based on a number of factors - the capability of the mobile cpu being used, the footprint of iOS and the built in functions, the typical RAM usage of known iOS 3rd party apps, the size of battery(s) available to fit in the space available, the added cost of additional RAM and any number of additional parameters.  In a device like a tablet or smart phone, every single component that goes into them involves some trade off or compromise.

  • Where is the official reference to know how many MBs of RAM does iPad have?

    Hi guys,
I have read discussion here and get to know that iPad has 256 MBs of RAM, but the discussion is user-to-user discussion. I want to know that is there any official reference to point that how may RAM in all types of iPad machines?
    Thank you very much!

Welcome to the discussions. Since the amount of RAM is not mentioned in Apple's own specs here:

...It says: +"Memory: 256 MB DRAM built into Apple A4 package (top package of PoP contains two 128 MB dies)"+ ...From THIS teardown.

  • How do you determine how much ram is on your iPad?

I can't seem to find anything that shows how much ram my iPad has.
Also, similar to releasing or clearing cookies on my desktop, does the iPad also have this as something that needs to be cleared out occasionally?

Here is one app and there are others, mostly free, similar to it on itunes.

From an ipad forums post :
If you experience your iPad running a bit slow you probably have a ton of applications running in the background. The iPad’s memory is limited, so in order to avoid performance issues you can close background applications by following the steps below.
. To close background applications press the Home button twice and when the recently used apps bar appears, tap and hold down the app you wish to close.
You will notice that after a second or two of holding down the icon, all the icons in the recently used apps bar will begin to move from side to side. You will also notice that a small red circle with a minus sign will appear on the top-left corner of the icon. Tap the red circle to close the background applications. Once you’ve closed several applications tap on the Home button again and you will return to the Home Screen or App you were using. Your iPad should feel a little snappier.

  • How can we stop the finger pointing?  Apps Vs iPad

Here is a WiFi problem I sent the Print Magic HD developer with the hopes of getting Print Magic HD working on my iPad. Check out their response blaming Apple WiFi. My Wifi works well with all other Apps! Whose to blame?
    Set up:
    Print Magic HD version 1.0
Brother HL-2170W; Rom Version 1.09; Net Rom version 1.06; Ram 32Mb iPad Version 3.2; 14 Gb; Model MB292LL; WiFi address 7C:6D:62:D9:16:E0
    Problem – Can’t Print
Symptom: Print Magic HD seems to turn off WiFi after “Print” is pressed.
I purchased the App after using your free Print Magic test App. With the test App, I was able to able to print from my iPad to my Brother HL-2170W WiFi laser printer. It did however, take a number of retries, but I was successful.
I then purchased and installed Print Magic HD App and I'm not having any success.
After confirming my Wifi is live, and the iPad is connected, here is what happens:
    1. Launch Print Magic HD
    2. Screen displays “looking for printers”. Please note that the iPad WiFi icon is displayed in the tool bar at top.
    3. Screen then shows “Brother HL-2170W series in Print Magic tool bar at top. I can observe the iPad WiFi icon is active in the tool bar.
    4. I then Press “Print” to print the simple telephone number I previously copied into the “Pasteboard”. I immediately observe that WiFi has been turned off by Print Magic HD as the WiFi icon is no longer displayed.
    5. Print Magic HD then quickly displays “Print Failed” error code. Sub text displays “Sorry, an error occurred while printing”. I then press “Ok” to dismiss prompt.
    6. Screen continues to display “Printing” with red Cancel button underneath and WiFi remains off. This App just hangs there.
    7. When I now check iPad settings, WiFi is indeed turned off.
I can turn WiFi on and repeat this sequence verbatim every time.
If I launch Safari after Print Magic HD error, it detects that WiFi is off and turns in on. Maybe your App should do the same??
Is there a fix for this?
    RESPONSE:
    Hello,
I spoke with our developers this morning and this is what I learned.
Print Magic can not, in any way, control your wifi. Even if it was a bug, there is nothing in the app that can make this happen. What they did say was the iPad has had some "sketchy" wifi connections and has been going on and off more with certain applications. This is a universal complaint and has to do with the iPad itself. We are hoping Apple can correct this problem in their next software update. I have noticed at times that my wifi connection is not solid and is listed as "not connected" on my iPad when my PC is working fine.
Also, the test app and HD app have all of the same coding and are exactly the same. Nothing has changed as far as that goes.
    I hope this information helps.
    Thanks,

I know this will sound like a conspiracy theory, but maybe Apple doesn't want you printing from your iPad... yet. Could be something Apple did so as not to "Steal their Thunder" when they announce the upgrades on the next generation iPad. Just a thought...

  • Transfering docs from iPad to Mac doesn't work

I have 2 iPads: iPad 1 and iPad 2. I bought iPad 2 a month ago and –using Snow Leopard– I could
transfer all my documents from iPad 1 to my Mac. After that, I loaded my new iPad 2 with the same
documents from Mac. I have updated to Lion and to iTunes 10.4 but now I see that I can't transfer
the documents from my iPads. For example, when selecting GoodReader, I can see only a partial
list of documents (in both iPads), so I could never transfer the whole set of documents. There is now
another problem: I selected this partial list of documents in order to transfer them to Mac, but when
the transfer process detect a folder, the transfer stops indicating an error. In the following figure,
BPM-SOA is just a folder, and it only says "an error is produced" and "the file is not found" without further information.
I deduce this problem is relatied with Lion/iTunes 10.4 as the same iPad 1 from which I tranfered all
my documents, now it only shows the partial list of documents (ending in NUI Natural User...) but I
have documents whose names begin with 'Z'. So, the set of documents between N and Z dissapeared
while when I transfered all the documents with Snow Leopard and iTunes 10.3 all worked fine and I have
a folder with the complete list of documents. I have a MacBook aluminiun, 13'' , 2 Gz Intel Core 2 duo, 4 Gb RAM,
an iPad 1 wifi 32 Gb and an iPad 2 wifi 64 Gb.

the GoodReaderUSB tool allows you to transfer entire folders into GoodReader without loosing the folder/file structure. also you can do the same in reverse using the tool. ie transfer everything from your iPad back onto your desktop.
    Windows: http://www.goodiware.com/usb/GoodReaderUSBWin_200.zip
    Mac: http://www.goodiware.com/usb/GoodReaderUSBMac_202.zip
also, I'm not affiliated with this tool in anyway, its just very very useful.

  • HT4623 Why will my iPad 1 not update to ios 7?

I bought this iPad for my daughter and really rely on the "guided access" but I can't seem to find it on this iPad 1 and I am assuming it is due to the outdated operating system. I want it to update - do I need to jailbreak it for that to happen?

  • Why my iPad do not upgrade over iOS 5.1.1??

WHy my iPad do not upgrade over iOS 5.1.1

If it's the first generation iPad (i.e. the only without cameras) then it doesn't support anything higher than iOS 5.1.1 - it doesn't have the processor nor the RAM (it only has 256 meg RAM ; the iPad 2 and first iPad Mini have 512 meg ; other iPads have 1024 meg) to cope with anything higher

  • My brand new ipad 2 have some uncomfortable delay on its photos apps

My brand new ipad 2 have some uncomfortable delay on its photos apps when i try to slide to next photo, it shows me a confident jerky and choppy. and it never happend on my ipad 1. it seems to happen lots of ipad 2 users.
and there still exists those problems on firmware 4.3.2
I couldn't believe that my brand new ( even set A5 dual core and 512 rams!) ipad 2 made this kind of delay.

Have you tried logging out of your account via Settings > Store and logging back in and seeing if that makes any difference ? You could also try a reset and see if they download after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If an app is over 20 meg in size then you won't be able to download it over 3G, you will need to either use wifi on your iPad or download it to your computer's iTunes and then sync it across.

  • Synology DS410 to iPad 4 video streaming issues

As the title says, I have issues streaming from my Synology ds410 (with upgraded 1GB RAM) to iPad 4. Its kind of frustrating as I bought the iPad thinking I can do just this.
Setup and what I tried so far
All my movies are 1080p, sitting in the movie folder on the ds410
DSM is 4.1 and all software on both ds401 and other devices are the latest ones (no jailbarake)
The syndrom is that the movie playes for ca 10 sec, so stops for 2-3 and so starts again.. and so it goes..
Router is a Thompson TWG870 WIFI Modem, cant change this one as the ISP wont allow the usage of own routers.
On Ipad I have tried all the different video settings (quality, transcoding, remuxing) but no help. I have also tried GPlayer but it keeps crashing so no use.
    Any ideas, suggestions?
Anyone else who have managed to get something similar workig?
    Cheers,
    t
PS: Plex player is not an option as it cant be instaled on the ds410

Apple's Http Live Streaming spoecifications mention that for live streaming, client will start playing from the 3rd last segment in the playlist. So the expected latency should be around 3 times the media file duration. Keeping the media file duration too low has its own implications like too many media sgement requests to server, thereby clogging the network.

  • I have stopped using business catalyst for hosting

I paid upfront for 2 years, how do I go about getting my money refunded, I have already switched over and I can no longer sign into my business catalyst account, thank you

I tried to have a look at a page already loaded, Safari tried to refresh it and then gave an error message. So the page that was already loaded was gone. So stupid.
As has already been mentioned, this is caused by the limited amount of RAM the iPad has (256mb)
If you have lots of tabs open in Safari (and perhaps some other Apps frozen in memory), they all use up some RAM.
If you open yet another tab in Safari it needs some RAM to load that page into, so if there isn't enough free RAM, it will clear the contents of the least recently viewed tab, meaning when you next switch back to it, it will need to be reloaded into memory.
iOS 4.2 has improved memory management and the amount of system memory available to apps is increased and the amount they use is decreased. So you should see some improvements in iOS 4.2.
You can also help things yourself by not having lots of Apps open and lots of tabs open in Safari.

  • How do I get my iTunes (both purchased and cd's) into the cloud as I cannot use match my iMac and MacBook are too old to use the right OS and maxed out RAM memory upgrades, but have iPhone 4S and now 64gb iPad and libraries on desktops plus iPod!!

So very excited bought iPad and new speakers today! Want to get all my music sorted as across iMac (G5), MacBook os 10.6 (maxed out ram and memory) and old iPod. Saw Match would be an option but can't use due to old OS so I can get the raw music library files but then what do I do to get all in one place? Any help appreciated.

A good route would be to attach a USB drive to the macbook.  You can use the drive to assemble a copy of all of your music from your various devices.  iTunes on the macbook can be used to create a new library, located on the USB drive, into which you can import all of your music.
    Two major benefits:
    1.  From here you can run iTunes Match across your entire music collection; and
    2.  You will have created a full local backup of all of your music on the USB drive.
Once complete you will be able to access the music from any iDevice capable of running iTunes Match,  Do remember as you add music it is important to maintain a local backup in order to keep your music safe.

  • New Ipad's Ram

How many RAM does the new Ipad actially have? The first model had 256, the second 512...and the new androids all have 1GB. Dowe also het 1GB Ram?

I would add that comparing RAM on Android tablets to iOS tablets is tricky. On Android, most models have 256-512M, only the most recent ones and the higher end ones (such as the Samsun Galaxy S2) have 1G. More importnatly, the iPad executes native code whereas the Android devices add the Dalvik VM as a layer on top of the native layer, and it tends to use a lot of DOM-based configuration elements too - both notably increase the RAM usage.
In both environments, applications are checkpointed is memory gets low, but Android permits apps to effectively lock part of themselves in RAM.
Overall, iOS tends to be more efficient with memory usage. That is probably offset somewhat today with the higher-resolution display (larger images and textures used in the high-resolution apps).
