Ram or PSU problem

I just brought a K7N2 Delta ILSR with an Athlon XP 2800, its been a week now and im having nothing but problems with this board.
I when i replaced my old processor and motherboard everything was working fine....for the first 10 minutes(if im lucky).
When i set the FSB to 166 my computer will crash, reboot or not load windows XP at all, even freezes in the bios sometimes but when i set it to 133 which takes the processor down to 2200+ everything is fine.  I have tried changing the ram 4 times and im getting the same problem at 166.  These are the types of ram I have tried
Hynix PC2100 256MB DDR 266MHZ CL2.5
Nanya PC2100 256MB DDR 266MHZ CL2.5
Samsung PC3200 512MB DDR 400MHZ CL2.5(made in Korea)K4H560838E-TCC4
Crucial PC2700 512MB DDR 333MHZ CL2.5 CT6464Z335.
All of these I have tried in different memory banks running alone.
I ran memtest when my computer was set to 166, its crashed at 5%, set it to 133 and tried again, completed tests with no errors.
Ive tried 3 CPU fans with the paste, disconnecting all the hardware apart from the HD and graphics card(Geforce 4 4200ti 64MB AGP X4) as im using a 300W power supply, played around with the mem timings, updated the bios through dos and none have worked.
So can anyone give me some help please in what to do, Ive spent so much on on buying different hardware nothing is working and I dont want to spend more money on buying a new power supply if the computer will still crash.

Please list the corresponding Amperages on the +12v, +5v, & +12v lines on your new PSU, should be on the sticker.
You said something about getting Kingston RAM, as Deathstalker mentions
Quote
malachi,
A word of warning, Kingston is hit or miss at best with nForce.
You could be recreating the same problem by picking up incompatable RAM and underpowered PSU's Even though a PSU maker claims it's a 400w, doesn't mean anything untill you look at the amperages and figure out what the combined wattage is and what it's continuous load capabilities are.
If all is well and you can't find RAM to work properly or get the CPU to run at 166 if it is in fact a Barton, then you need to look to the board or the CPU. It may server you better to take it to a tech near you that is familiar with that setup, I don't know your location so I do not know the availability of such a service in your area.
Either that or you end up spending even more money/time on troubleshooting it further.
So lets have the corresponding amperages on that PSU for starters.

  • AGP card or PSU problem?

    HI,
I have a problem with my G4 Ti4200 card with my computer, the computer work fine at normal use. eg. using Words, Powerpoint, playing only 2D games.
The problem came when I start playing 3D games like WarCraft 3 and Conflict Dessert Storm. When I play the game, it will suddenly hang in about 20 minutes or even few seconds with the screen having 'No Video Signal'.
After trying the technical support and updating the driver the problem remain. I tried the games on another computer and it run perfectly.
After a month of trying and looking on the forum, there is no clue.
It seem the problem lie on the PSU so I measure the voltage with the G4 Ti4200 card on. and the reading for the +3.3V is below the 5% tolerance with 2.8V but at 3.12V using a older PCI graphic card.
Could the problem be the PSU, the G4 Ti4200 card or the Mainboard. The mainboard support AGP 4X while the G4 Ti4200 is 8X.
Thanks in advance for helping me.

Are there forum with PSU problem and suggestion

The decision of which rails are used to power the system components is actually up to the designer of the mainboard (the rails are used to feed the mobo's regulators which further modify/maintain voltages). You must check with the manufacturer (not something one usually finds in the manual).
But speaking in general terms, the +3.3 is used for memory and USB, +5.0 for electronics (PCI and drives) and the +12.0 for CPU and motors. (Some mobos for AMD use the +5.0 to power the cpu).
You did not mention the TCO, but looking at the max amps for the +3.3 and for the +5.0, I doubt it even reaches 170W. (In most PSU designs, the +3.3 and +5.0 rails are fed from a common source, and power drawn on the one rail is at the cost of power available on the other - so if you were to draw the maximum 125W on the +5.0, there likely is very little left for the +3.3).
Symptoms of insufficient power are characterized by their lack of character! In other words, they are sporatic, capricious, inexplicable and random. If the voltage on the +5.0 drops enough, the mobo will reset the CPU (a 'sudden' reboot).
Your voltage readings already indicate insufficient power; if your memory is on two sticks, remove one (or if you have devices powered through the USB, disconnet them) to test the theory by reducing the load.

  • Possible PSU Problems

On the rare occasion I have windows running when I try to open my DVD-ROM drive in explorer my computer resets. Could that be a PSU Problem? I am running a 3800+ AMD, 1gb ram, 6800GT with added power, 2 120gb SATA HDs, DVD-ROM, Floppy, 3 Case fans.
    Thanks

hello ozltem, i think this is related to this bug in adobe's flash plugin: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3223393 (apparently they are aware of the issue & can replicate it, but they are not fixing it because it doesn't have a high priority).
as a workarounf you could try if [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/flash-113-crashes#w_solution-2-downgrade-to-flash-10-3 downgrading to flash 10.3] (which is still supported) or [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071#TemporaryWorkaround disabling protected mode].

  • P6N Diamond 4g ram no boot problem

Hello, I have installed vista ultimate 64 successfully and downloaded the necessary updates and drivers for my system all on 2g of ram. The problem comes when i try to install the remaining 2g of ram. All 4g shows up on post but the system will not boot. Is this hardware or vista related? System specs are down in my signature. thanks for the help.
    Danny

test your second pair of 2GB alone with Memtest86 and ensure no error(s) will comes.
up memory vcore to 2.2V(SPD rated vcore for your memory) before install all four sticks.
also check and ensure that timings assigned are default one for your memory.
if unable to make it work, you can contact to MSI here: http://support.msi.com.tw/ to send you a new BIOS to have a try.

  • Stalling problem, could be ram or psu...

    Here's the long story...
I finally got my new pc up and running then noticed it stalled every 2 hours. I contacted MSI and with a speedy reply they told me to up the voltage on my AGP to 1.6v . That was great, was working fine for almost 3 weeks and I had in on overnight without any stalling whatsoever. All of a sudden its starts freezing up on me again. I read around these forums which are great btw! :P And I upped the voltage on my RAM to 2.7v since it's DDR400. Didn't stall all day. Shut my pc opened it up the next day... same problem... upped the voltage on RAM to 2.75 and on AGP to 1.65v, worked fine for a while then started happening again. How far do I up my voltages? I don't know what to do at this point as it seems as i can't avoid this stalling
Your help is much appreciated, thx. Plz don't tell me its my PSU

  • MSI 6600 diamond PCI-E/ 3DMARK05 = 739/ PSU Problem?

This is my first post, so forgive me if it's not OK.
I have an MSI NX6600 VTD128E diamond. I am getting the Nvidia Sentinal warning approx. 75% of the time. I just installed an Enermax EG465P-VE FMA. I'm not sure if the specs will show up in my profile, so they are 3.3v - 35A, 5v - 35A, 12v - 33A. From all the reading I have done I thought this would solve my problem, but it did not. My original PSU was a 300W Hipro with dual 12v rails @ 18A each that came with my computer, and I got the warning everytime I turned it on, which is why I switched for the new one.
These cards get there power from the PCI-E slot on the motherboard with no option for an extra power connector. At this point I don't know if I need a new PSU with dual 12v rails, or if there is something else causing the problem. From reviews of other 6600 cards I think my 3DMARK05 numbers should be between 2600-3200? Any thoughts or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Thanks for the reply blazing storm.
I have had 1 or 2 restarts trying beta drivers, 71.81 and MSI's 71.22 caused a strange xp screen saying please wait, but it never booted up. Far cry wouldn't load with one of them. This is the only game I'm playing right now and it actually runs pretty good with settings on High. My clock speeds were at 400/800 after the Sentinal warning so I'm not sure what it is doing, but my marks definatly suggest something is wrong. Everything runs ok with the 66.93, which I used before the beta's and I am using them now.I didn't get the warning when I started my Comp this time so I think I will try 3DMARK05 again just to see if there are any changes.
From what I understand about Memtest (very little) I need a floppy drive, but I don't have one. Am I correct or is there another way to use the program? Anybody else have some ideas? Please.
PS- could someone explain the differences between ATX12V, ATX V1.0, V1.3, V2.0, V2.3? etc. Do the new PCI-E boards need a specific version? Thanks.

  • K7n2d Ram or Psu?

Well I've read all of the trouble shooters 101 and ran around through buying the right psu and memory threads.  But I'm not really sure if this isn't a mobo issue rather then one of the aboce.
    I've got:
    amd xp barton 2500+
Kingmax 512 mb ddr 333 KDL388P4LA-60 on chips
    radeon 9600 pro
the power source is too weak for sytem and I've got one suitable otw just as I want to eliminate that problem.
Symptom:  Will not even display during boot. bluetooth says "processor damaged or improperly installed error" 1&2 red 3&4 green.
I've reseated the processor with EXTREME care following a nice guide on arctic silvers site (was a real help I just used to blob it on and smear it around , has a big vantec on it.
1hd 1 cdrom 1 floppy, not much there really but my psu has these stats:
    +3.3v ~ 24a
    +5v ~ 35a
    +12v ~ 12a
I guess my question is, does this, my psu, look to be like my problem or could it be my mobo or memory?
    Thanks,
    Whitt

    So,
I've replaced the psu on this with an antec 430 purepower and still recieving the same issues.  Absolutely nothing gets written to video.  D-Bracket lights 1&2 red, 3&4 green.
I'm at a point where I wish to replace my ram, or perhaps my mobo, but was curious if I could just remove all ram from mobo and get any further along in the boot process if its bad memory holding me up?
Not sure if this is very clear but if ya do understand what I'm trying to say and know if its possible to boot to bios without ram could ya let me know
No, I don't have any way to test ram on another ddr mobo, nor processor with a mobo the correct bus speed.  I think its the mobo holding me up but I just hate to keep buying new stuff and swapping parts to fix this.
    Thanks,
    Whitt

  • RD 480 RAM and BOOT problem

    Hi
I'm having a continuing problem, since I addded two extra Gb RAM to the original system configuration.
    MB MS RD480 Neo2
    CPU AMD64 X2 4200+
VGA MSI X800 GTO 256 MB
RAM 2*1Gb Kingston ValueRAM DDR 333
    PSU: Akasa 550W
    2*SATA WD 250 GB SATA 2
When I added two more RAM modules (2* 1Gb) the BIOS only recognized 3072Mb.
I ψontacted the technical support dept and their reply was to flash the BIOS to the latest (? beta) version, 3.3B3. And now the touble begins..... At first the PC booted (almost) fine, reporting 4096 Mb -but only in the first boot screen, because in the second one, it still reported 3072 Mb of Ext. Memory.)
Then I entered the BIOS again and changed the Boot sequence....AND after that...nothing! The PC does not boot (I think). It tries dozens of times to access the CD-ROM, and after a long, long time (five minutes or more) it beeps "normally" but the screen remains blank!
I am at a loss! Looks like the VGA card is damaged??? (MSI X800 GTO 256 MB)....
    What about that?

Oh, I did it....removed CMOS battery, switched the CMOS jumper, removed the power cord... everything....
BUT the problem is still here...

  • What causes my instability? CPU? RAM? PSU?

    Hallo community,
let me start with a short description of my problem:
I am unable to get my system (see signature for details) working stable in synchronous mode: when both, CPU and RAM, are working at a FSB (or HTT) of 200 MHz, the system crashes randomly with various error messages (mostly memory related). It is possible to reduce the number of crashes by using memory slot 2 or 3 instead of 1, but the system is still unstable. The currently only way to solve this is setting the memory to 166 MHz in the BIOS. It should be mentioned that with the former motherboard (K8X800 PRO 2 from ALBATRON based on VIAs K8T800) everything was fine.
    What i have already tried:
First of all, i replaced the motherboard with the AN51R from SHUTTLE - no difference, as long as CPU and RAM works with 200 MHz, the system is highly unstable. I tried various RAM sticks -A-DATA, CORSAIR, GEIL and KINGSTON- but also without success.
    What i consider to try:
I feel unsure. In one of the guides it was recommended to use a PSU that deliveres at least 24A on the 12V rail - my TAGAN deliveres "only" 22A. Since i can solve my problem by reducing the memory frequency, i do not believe that replacing the PSU will help. What remains ist the CPU: i own a CLAWHAMMER stepping and i know well that the newer NEWCASTLE stepping uses a revised memory controller. On the other hand, this CPU did fine while using a different chipset. As i told - i feel unsure.
    Any help is highly welcome.
    Thank you in advance,
    JePe

One stick (512 mb) in currently slot 3 - since this worked best for me. And no, i did nor ran memtest until now, since ... i do not own a floppy drive . Beside this, i really cant imagine that all memory sticks i tried had the same weaknesses.
    Greetings,
    JePe

  • MS6323 PSU problem

Hi, I am having a problem booting an MSI 6323 Socket 370 board with a PS3 PSU.  It works ok with a standard ATX PSU but not with either of these two PS3 PSUs:
    Enlight EN-8201731 200W PS3
    +5 21A, +3.3 14A, +12 10A

here are the specs of the PSU it does work with:
    Macron 300W ATX
    +5 30A, +3.3 14A, +12 10A
Has also been known to work with a SFX 150W PSU stable
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks
Hardware specs for this machine are as follows:
    MS6326 S370 mobo
    Pentium III 733 CPU

    Samsung ATA100 20GB HDD
    Memorex CDRW drive

  • MSI NEO4-F, 2*512 VS512MB400 and Winchester 3000+; memory or psu problem?

    My configuration:
    Winchester 3000+
    2*512 MB VS512MB400 not a dualkit.
    MSI Neo4-F
    7800GT
    2 maxtor HDD:s
    PSU: 3.3v=28A, 5v=30A and 12V=17A
    Well to the problem.
I had to install Windows XP with just one memory stick because I was not able to do that with the Corsair dual configuration.
Only Got it to post with memorys in dimm 3 and 4, but it was not able to start properly. A bluescreen appeared after the half boot process with some bios settings or it just restarted.
Then I tried to combine the Corsair memories with an old T-xxx memory PC3200 and it worked and still works flawless.
I had the T-xxx memory in dimm 1 and the Corsair memory in dimm 3, that is the current configuration. Of natural reasons i could not use dual ddr, but it at least works.
    My theorys.
Is the powersupply to weak? But I don't think so because I disconnected one of the harddrives and tried an old pci graphic card (an old sis grapcic card that probably just using 1-5 A of current) and still got the same problems. What do you think?
I have tried both Corsair memories one by one in dimm 3 (the only working dimm slot with Corsair memories) with no problems at all so Im a bit confused.
Or isnt it possible to make the above configuration to work with the Corsair memories i bought?
    Thanks in advance!

Yeah, your psu is a bit weak really,17amps on the +12v rail is not enough
Especially as your running a 7800.
What voltage are you giving your ram?

  • Macbook pro retina, too much ram used & performance problems

i've recently got my macbook pro with retina display, 128 gb i5 intel 2.6Hz processor with 8gb memory, OS Yosemite 10.10.1. problems began to appear the very first moment i've turned it on: at the last step of profile creation (the step where you choose a name and a password of your profile), after i've filled all the fields and clicked some button to proceed, my macbook refused to boot and froze. i've restarted the computer and then it booted just fine. Then new problems appeared: after installing some apps from mac app store, they wouldn't load the first time i open them, - i had to close them and reopen. Once again, this issue wasn't appearing with every app - only with a few ones. I assumed that this was a software issue which will disappear after i update. And well, i didn't observe this problem ever since i've updated the OS. However, i can't be sure that it disappeared.
Also, i monitor RAM consumption using the Memory Clean app. there are like only 3.60 gb free space out of 8. is it ok?
so, what i am asking: should i take my macbook to a store to get it fixed or this problem is just a software and not a hardware issue and i just have to wait?
    Thanks

That is normal.  The Mavericks and Yosemite OSXs use as much RAM as is available in order to increase efficiency.. The parameter that you should monitor is 'pressure', not the amount.  If it is GREEN, you are operating within acceptable limits.  If there is a color change, then more RAM may be required or there may be other issues that may need attention.
so, what i am asking: should i take my macbook to a store to get it fixed or this problem is just a software and not a hardware issue and i just have to wait?
Since you have a new MBP, your best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have them sort out the issues for you.  Your MBP has a warranty, use it.
    Ciao.

  • Mac Pro 2,1 Spontaneous Restart with No Boot - Power Supply PSU Problem?

One day I was working away on my Mac Pro 2,1 Quad Core 3.0 (2007) with 8 gb ram running Lion and it just shut itself off like someone pulled the power cord (but no one did of course). Then it attempted to restart, but wouldn't boot. Basically I haven't been able to use it since as I can't get the computer to stay on for any length of time.
I'm thinking its either the power supply or the, oh no, logic board.
Symptoms have been like this so far:
Initially I would get a chime and a boot start but then I would find the computer would shut itself off somewhere in the process and try to restart. Usually the next time I would get no chime and a horrible repeated clicking of my optical drive with a rythmic fan whirring up and down on the original ATI x1900 xt graphics card. I would have to manually power off with the power button to make it stop. Sometimes it would try to restart again anyway. The only way I could get a chime again was to unplug and wait (longer the better). But even if i got a chime and a start of a boot, invariably the computer would turn off again.
I couldn't boot from another source, I couldn't run apple hardware test, I couldn't run diagnostic,... it just wouldn't stay on to do it.
I hauled my mac pro (out of warranty) to the apple store genius bar and the problem presented itself, continuously. The gent was able to get fsck to work long enough to determine my hard drive was ok and said it was one of three things - the power supply, the graphics card, or the logic board. He said because the comp powered on and then shut off, and because there was intermittent chiming, he didn't think it was the power supply. He thought it was the graphics card and said I could leave my Mac for 10 days and they could take a looksy, or I could just install a new graphics card on my own.
I chose the latter, bought a ATI Radeon 5770 from the apple online store for $275 and installed it.
Problem persists.Exactly the same as before. Got initial chime, then next time no chime, optical drives clicking and graphics card fan whirring up and down rhythmically.
I had a touch of time to disconnect everything and I get a chime consistently now when I have my boot drive, graphics card, 4 gb ram, and monitor attached. (As well as wireless mouse, keyboard, trackpad). I even got to logon once only to have a prompt shut off and restart attempt. also I verified it was at least one optical drive clicking (when I removed them both) during these boot attempts.
The improvement in chiming seemed to be when I unseated one ram riser ( I have to with 2 x 2g ram modules each).
I also checked the diagnostic leds on the logic board and all was as it should be... says I got trickle power and rail power etc.
Is there anything else I can do to determine what's wrong? What do you guys think is wrong? Could it be bad RAM? Power Supply? Logic Board?
All your help is massively appreciated in advance!

Well I ran as many tests as I could with no definitive results to the point I would have to start buying replacement parts and testing that way. I opted to take it back to the apple store and they said it's (dun dun dun dunnnnn) the logic board.
