RAM preview out of sync

Hello,
When I try to RAM preview my composition on my reference monitor I'll get a Not Realtime in my info panel. This is only with CS6 version not with CS5. I am using a Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme.
Does anyone has have similar problems like this?
Thierry

Ask on the BMD support line/ forums. This is no doubt an issue with their drivers/ plug-ins.

  • Encore cs6 preview out of sync but DVD fine

    Hello,
Blu-ray project in Encore, exported audio and video from AME using the blu-ray h264 preset.
When I preview in Encore the sync is off but once I create the dvd and play it back, the sync is fine.

We have heard nothing about any changes in Encore for CC. I would be very surprised if anything fundamental, like the preview engine, has changed. We really don't know what is still the old sonic authorcore, what may have changed but is still sonic, and what is Adobe created. I have always assumed the preview is sonic.
Is the audio sync issue Bluray only, H.264 bluray only, or any particular audio formats? I don't recall getting the issue in Encore DVD playback.

  • Audio is Out of Sync on NTSC Preview Monitor

    Hello FCP Gurus,
I recently was hired by a local Broadcast TV Affiliate and I am looking at their FCP systems. I noticed that one of the suites has a big problem with the NTSC Preview Monitoring, the audio is way out of sync.
    Here's the set up:
    G5 Dual 2GHZ
    3GB RAM
1 Internal Western Digital SATA 160GB (System Drive)
1 Internal Maxtor SATA 300GB (Media Drive and back up system drive)
    2 Monitors
    MAC OSX 10.4.3
    FINAL CUT PRO 4.5
    AJA IO LA
So when I play back anything in the timeline the audio on the external NTSC monitor is way off, not just a little bit but a ton. I am not sure why. I know that usually there is some delay but not this much. Is there a way to configure it without any delay? The computer monitor with the FCP canvas and viewer are dead on but the NTSC is way off, it is ahead of the video.
Also, when I am editing in the timeline I have to switch the AV setting from ProIO to Built In and then I can here it. When I insert back to BetacamSP through the AJA box I have to switch it back to ProIO to lay it to tape. While it is laying to tape I cannot hear the audio or even see the FCP meters. But when I play back what I just put down on the Beta deck, the aduio is fine. The decks are in the operations rooms almost on the other side of the building.
This maybe OK for 30 sec promos but for 30 minute shows this will drive me crazy. I am responsible for all elements, including audio.
    Thanks in advance.
    Alex

make sure the audio is following the video.
if you are viewing video on an external monitor, make sure the audio is routed [i[the exact same path to the audio monitors. If you have the video going out through the AJA and the audio out directly from the computer, there will be a processing differential that you will hear as lag.
Also, make sure you have the most recent AJA drivers.
    good luck.

  • Published mp4 lags, is out of sync, and does not match the Project Preview - help please!

My Captivate 7 project includes two video demo slides with audio narration. The published mp4 video is vastly different from what it should be and how it shows in a preview in Captivate. I have tried publishing it again twice - once I changed the settings by clicking "Force republish all the slides" in the Advanced Options but the published mp4 is still messed up - the video freezes while the audio proceeds and other out of sync problems.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Audio drops and comes back out of sync but dvd preview ok

    hi All,
i put some photos and videos together in idvd project. The used one of their standard sound tracks to give the background music. The preview looked great so i burned the dvd but to my surprise when a particular video played around 8 min into the dvd the audio dropped and came about a min later with other photos getting it totally out of sync. I have tried removing few photos before that video comes to shift the video's location, there is a minor effect, it playes the clips audio in sync for slightly a sec or two longer but then drops and come back out of sync when it is showing still photos.
    thanks in advance.

  • QT breaking up and sound out of sync - cpu or ram or browser problem?

    1. I try to watch BBC news video clips but can never get anything other than the sound out of sync, the picture breaking up and what I can only try to describe as a 'delayed streaming problem' where the film jumps frames from one frame to 'much later'.
    2. Also the BBC has options of 'screen size' - I can't go to their large size so am stuck with a small version. (I don't think this is associated with the core problem.)
I play these clips either through Media Player or Real Player but it makes no difference.
I have flip4mac installed. I have the ATI display drivers updated.
I hope you understand the problem.
I hope I'll understand the answers!
    Thanks for any helps.
    Gordon

Another thing I've just noticed is that when the news clips are downloading and playing it is only at 36kbps. I have as far as I can set preferences at 256kbps.
I am connected to DSL but I'm not sure at what rate the ISP delivers. (I know it's the cheapest!)
Hope this helps anyone inclined to help.
    Thanks

  • Audio And Video out of sync in Final Cut, but not in quicktime

I heave searched the forums to no end to find the solution to this issue, unfortunatley, I have not solved the problem.
I am using Final Cut 4.5 on a G4 running OSX 10.3.4. This system has worked perfectly for years with no problems. Neither the system, hardware, or software has ever been changed on this machine. Suddenly last week, despite perfect sync while previewing the capture, the Audio and Video were of sync in Final Cut, but when checked in quicktime, there were no problems. That is how I eventually figured out this was a final cut problem.
By out of sync, I don't mean it is by a specific number of frames that can be adjusted and then everything is fine, the sync seems to drift so that if you edit the audio to be in sync in one part of the video, it won't be at the end. Also, it is out of sync from the first frame played, not a gradual drift.
This is definitely not an issue of frame rates or final cut settings as will be evident by the steps I took below to find the source of this problem.
This is what I did to attempt to fix the problem:
    - Check drives using disc utility and repair permissions
    - Remove Final Cut Preferences using Apple guidelines
    - Switch hard drives
    - Delete Final Cut and reinstall newer version of final cut (since the capture files played fine on Final Cut 5.1 on another machine)
    - reinstall entire OSX 10.3.9, wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Final Cut 5.1
    - switch ram slots, and even replace ram with different sticks from another G4 machine
None of these solutions worked. Is there some hardware problem with my G4 that is suddenly causing Final Cut to play audio and video out of sync?
Hope you can help, otherwise this otherwise great G4 is going in the dumpster!
    Thanks

For what it's worth, I'm having what looks to be the same problem. Driving me insane. Here's what's going on-
    Editing in FCP 6.0.2
QT was just updated to 7.3.1 the other day (hmm)
On an MacBookPro machine, OS 10.5.1
Software updater says everything's up to date of course.
    DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown Removal (footage was shot at 24PA on a DVX100b)
In Quicktime, the file previews fine, everything's in sync, everyone's happy. In FCP, the video and audio are wildly out of sync. I did a test inside of quicktime and sliced out a small portion of the media clip and did a "save as" and this small slice played in sync in FCP. However, this did not work for the entire clip. Clip is weighing in at 5.58GB for a 32 minute run.
I'm trying to multicam 2 tapes together and manually syncing these up is proving to be difficult at best. When anyone gets any ideas/leads/patches, let us know.

  • Audio and Video out of sync during editing. PLEASE HELP

I am using a MacBook Pro. Specs are:
    - OS X version 10.9.2
    - 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 Processor
    - 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
When I import a video into AfterEffects CC, the audio and video are out of sync. The audio and video files are the right size, length etc. but are way out of sync. By the end of a 2 minute video, it can be out by up to 5-6 seconds. This applies to videos imported from any device. iPhone, USB and even videos I've recorded directly from my computer. Most files I try and import are MP4 files, but I've found the same issues with all other video files. I've even tried importing them separetely as an audio file and then as a video file. Nothing seems to work. I am also experienceing the same issue with Premiere CC.
Please help. I am needing these programs to work for assessment items.
    - Andrew

Without knowing the specs of your videos it is hard to say. I'm also running a Mac and am having no such issues.
My first thought is that you have something from a 3rd party installed that is causing conflicts. If all else fails try transcoding your mp4 files to a frame based codec using the Adobe Media Encoder. Pick one of the Apple production codecs or Jpeg compressed QuickTime.
Are you running a ram preview? Did you render your Premiere timeline? Are you new to AE?

  • Audio goes out of sync when Blu-ray folder is exported from Encore CS6

I compile a project in Encore using H.264 and .wav files. The audio plays fine directly from the timeline. It also plays fine when I preview it from Encore. When I finally export it as a set of Blu-ray folders, the audio exports out of sync with the video. It is approximately 6-7 seconds ahead of the video. What am I doing incorrectly? When I mux the files into an .MKV, the video is in sync with the audio so I know the files themselves do not have different start times.
I am running with an HP Z820 with Windows 7, 64-bit OS and 16GB RAM.

For anyone who's interested, I found a solution to this problem. Once imported into Encore, the leader in on the video and audio files cannot be trimmed at all. (I had been trimming the beginning of the video and matching audio file to eliminate the 8 seconds of dead space at the start of the clips.) Although the trim took effect immediately in the Encore timeline and I could also watch it in preview in sync, exporting was another story. The audio track seems to retain the trim when exporting but the video track does not, hence the 6-7 second delay between audio and video.
I reimported the files to my project and left in the 8 seconds of dead space at the start and voila! The video and audio match up when exported.
Ideally the trim tool would just work as its supposed to through export and all, but at least I found a solution I can work with.
(As a note, the trim works just fine in export on Encore CS5. I only had this problem with Encore CS6.)

  • Audio out of sync with presentation (not using full motion)

When I preview or publish a project using Captivate 5, the audio is out of sync with the presentation. I am not using any full motion recording, which I know has caused audio/video sync issues in previous versions of Captivate. The audio is slide specific, with a separate audio file for each slide. (In other words, I'm not trying to break a large audio file over many slides.) When each slide is viewed individually -- in the workstation, in the preview window, or in the published version -- the audio is synced just fine. The problem arises only when I try to watch the entire presentation (approx. 10 minutes in length). The audio gradually lags behind the visual.  By about half way through the project, the visual presentation is noticably ahead of the audio. By the end, the audio is nearly 4 seconds behind the video. I cannot detect a noticeable change in pitch or speed of the audio, so if the audio is being altered in any way, the alteration is slight.
However, if I use the playback controls to advance to a single slide, the audio is fine for that slide and those immediately after, although it does gradually get off again as the project progresses. (So, for example, if I start the playback in the middle of the project, the audio will only be off by about 2 seconds by the end, rather than 4.)
I have tried various publishing options (although I don't think publishing is the problem, since this happens when I preview the project as well). I have used 2 different computers and also tried viewing the published version locally and streaming. None of these alterations seem to make a difference. By the end of the presentation, regardless of how the project is published or viewed, the audio is several seconds behind the video.
    My specs:
    Captivate 5
    Microsoft XP OS
    2 GB RAM
    Publishing to .swf
    Suggestions?

    Hi Mukul,
Thank you very much for your careful responses. Here are the answers to the questions.
First of all, the "slow video" behavior does appear only after adding the slides mentioned in previous post.
    1.    I created a “software simulation” project. It IS a capture+audio recording.
    2.    Since I recorded the audio while doing screen capture, almost every slide has audio, which is not convenient to edit at all. Is there any other better way that I missed so that we can keep the audio and video at the same step while editing them? As I know so far, either insert silence or delete a little audio to one slide, the audio becomes short, but the slide duration time is still the same as before unless we change that manually which normally is not precise enough to match the audio.
    3.    I tried to add the blank slides at where there is a pause of speaking and where they are close to the problem slides. Otherwise, the speaking would sound weird.
    4.    Published SWF file size is 20.6 MB.
    5.    I do have two externalized video files for title and end.
    6.    Unfortunately, it is still slow even if it played on a different system.
And another problem comes up these days. After publication, the screen resolution is not good (like some grey ink left on screen) wherever click or type something. It did not happen before even if worked on the same computer.
I am very sorry that there are so many problems. I have been working on this for long time. The project totally drove me nuts. Hopefully you have more ideas about that.
    I really appreciate your help.
    Sincerely,
    Linda

  • Why is my video exporting out of sync with the audio?

Every time I export it (and it takes some 2 hours just to export a draft version) the video is sped up, but the audio isn't, so that the video is out of sync and at the end there's just black space with the end of the audio.
Both the video footage and the composition have the same frame rate (24p). I am exporting with Render Settings set to DV settings and output module set to Quicktime DV NTSC 48kHz
When I edit it I've been timing it to the seconds and frames because it's such a large file that I can barely RAM preview 5 seconds of it, and so it's especially frustrating that it's completely off when it exports.
Has this ever happened to anyone here?

    Ahhh, right.
    I'm using After Effects CS5.
The footage I'm using is in .mov format, although to be honest I'm not sure about the codec  (I imported it straight to After Effects from my Canon 7D's memory card? I think it's H.264)
I also have some PNG sequences.
I used the AE Render Queue.

  • Audio layer causes "NOT realtime" on RAM Preview

Hi I am using a new machine I built mostly for AE and music video production.
    Mac Pro 2008 - 2.8ghz 8-core
    8GB RAM
    AE CS3 + Nucleo Pro 2.0
    Areca 1261ML
I have spent some time tuning the Nucleo & AE parameters to work most effeciently and I'm happy with the performance execpt for this issue.
What I am noticing is I get 29.97 fps playback with the RAM preview and NO audio, but as soon as I check the audio layer my fps drops to 22 fps and the audio only plays for only half of the preview. Most importantly the audio gets out of sync... It is frustratingly difficult to align video and audio like I've grown use to in AE7 & 6.5
Perhaps I'm missing a preference somewhere?
My comp is 29.97 fps 640x480. My project settings are set to 44.100 khz.
    My footage is partially
    60fps 640x480, 48K audio (audio unchecked)
    30fps HD 720p , 48K audio (audio unchecked)
& mostly stop-motion jpg sequences taken from a 2MP camera.
    1 song - 44.1khz wav
All my previous projects behave similarly.
All of this plays fine with no audio. However, even 29.97 SD alone still causes "NOT realtime" playback as soon as I check the audio on. This happens no matter if it is full-res or 1/4.
    I have tried:
making sure all audio is set to 44.100Khz and also tried 48,000khz (with 48k audio)
changing the buffer size on the audio preference
    swapping out the 44.100 wav with 44.100 mp3 or a 48,000 wav
Also tried switching to an external USB audio device in the audio hardware preferences - no change
still plays back in the 22fps range...
I don't remember having this issue on my XP64 quad core machine w/AE 7.0 OR with my old dual cpu XP box running AE 6.5.
As this Mac Pro is supposed to be for music video production. This is really an important issue to me and is making my work very difficult and tedious -- or I have to just render it out like in the ole slow computer days...
*EDIT* It does play 15 fps realtime -- if I tell it to skip 1 frame (just double checked - thought it played sluggishly too) But this is kinda upsetting... It should resolve my timing issues for now.

no effects on the audio -- it's just straight wav 44.100Khz.
Preferences > Audio Hardware > Built in line output
Preferences > Audio Output Mapping > Built in line output
System Preferences > Sound > Output > Built in line output
All of these settings in any configuration produce the exact same result. Presently set to "built in line output", I have also tried using the USB output and the ones labled "built in line input/built in line output" -- no success, even if all the settings are set to the same line or pointed to different audio hardware. Buffer size also has no effect.
    I'm really stumped.
Also, my audio library is on a HDD by itself. I tried hard to set up the machine to not have issues like this...
I'd like to get a MOTU Ultralight for audio recording one day, but I don't think this is a $500 issue now. Plus, I doubt it will make a difference.
I mean 15fps works, but I miss stuff when I'm viewing stop-motion footage. I feel like I wasted a lot of money on hardware and CS3.

  • Audio Tempo is Wrong and Slow in RAM Preview

I am trying to get After Effects and audio to play nice, but I am having problems. I exported 2 minutes of audio from GarageBand (no compression) and brought it into AF. I have a new composition (set at 29.97) and my Preview panel is also set to 29.97.
The problem is that my RAM preview sounds wrong. Not only does it seem a hair slow, it also sounds like the tone is lower throughout the piece (one may cause the other). When I render a movie, the audio sounds fine. Any thoughts?
I have an iMac i7 with 8GB RAM and I have set my buffer size to 4096 in the AF preferences pane for Audio Hardware (is there any reason not to crank this all the way up?). I am running Mac OS 10.6.3.

    Mylenium wrote:
check the audio hardware settings in your prefs and in your system's Quicktime settings panel. Sounds like you are having audio buffer delay set too long/ buffer size set to high, resulting in the playback getting out of sync.
    Mylenium
There are no such controls for the MacOS and sound cards are rare in the Macintosh, usually only associated with big audio apps like MOTU (but I've never used any of those products). The non-expandable iMac does not have a sound card at all. You gets what you pays for in the iMac.
If an audio track cannot play well or properly in AE, it is my experience that it's easier to use a lower rez version of the track than to fight what is going to be a losing battle with AE's audio preview paradigm. Doesn't always work, though, which is why I can only rely the audio waveform display for placing accurate audio hooks.

  • Specifying start/end of "Save RAM Preview"?

I save RAM previews to preview comps with real-time audio, since AE's RAM Preview lags on audio, preventing me from syncing video and audio.  When I save the RAM preview, it starts slightly after where I have it set in AE and ends much earlier.  How do I specify the RAM preview start/end parameters?

You can specify beginning and end of the duration to be previewed by setting a work area.
That doesn't necessarily seem relevant to your problem of lagging audio.
If audio and video are out of synch, then please file a bug with details about version numbers of software, kinds of footage, et cetera. You can send bug reports to aebugs <at> adobe <dot> com.

  • AE CS4 - why such poor RAM preview on my FAST machine?

Hi all, I just installed After Effects CS4 - I have a smokin fast mchine: quadcore Zeon 3.20 GHz, hyperthreading turned on, nvidia quadrofx 3800 with current driver, 12 GB DDR3 RAM, windows 7 64bit ... can you PLEASE help me troubleshoot a problem:  even on the simplest compositions, a moving picture or a moving piece of type, the RAM preview stutters along, the current time indicator hops along at a choppy pace, images in the frame dont look like they're moving smoothly, and all i get is about 6 seconds of RAM preview ... seems to me that I used to get better performance on a MUCH MUCH  slower machine under windows XP ... i have looked around the forums and seem the advice on multiprocessor options and the like, but nothing I do seems to help ... do any of you have any advice for me to improve my performance???  if you have any questions about my setup or preferences, let me know, I will be on this until I get what I expect out of my (otherwise incredibly fast) machine

Hi Todd, thanks again for your reply ... FYI, I bought the FX3800 for Avid editing, for which it is the qualified video card, and supports distributed processing in the Avid along with my DX HD hardware BOB - I had hoped it would work well with After Effects, too, but I do understand the Adobe is very transparent about the fact that, as long as your card has OpenGL support, probably best to sink your $$$ into more RAM or faster CPU .. but to stay on topic, I am just  very stunned that I am not getting better playback with my system ... I have the most recent Nvidia drivers ... I have 2 NEC 2490WUXi2 each connected through DVI-D to my video card, each runnign at its native 1920x1200 res, 59 hertz ... the programs I have installed are Adobe CS4 Production Premium, Win7 64bit, MS Office 2007 Enterprise, latest version of Quick Time, Media Player version 11, and NERO 9 ... you dont think that one of these video player apps (like media player or QT) are messing with my screen performance do you?  what about Nero 9, have you heard any compatibility or display problems associated with this app?  would unistalling any of these programs be a troubleshooting technique that you'd attempt?
Finally, when you say "an issue with a bottleneck of drawing to the screen" what do you mean exactly? 'cause this kinds sounds like a goood description of what I am seeing ... what might be the cause of such a bottleneck, I am willing to try anything ...
    Thanks, sir, for your reply!

Subject: AE CS4 - why such poor RAM preview on my FAST machine?
Just one thing to cut down a frequent misconception:
Your nice graphics card doesn't do much for After Effects performance. In fact, trying to use OpenGL for rendering (including rendering of previews) can cause problems.
I recommend turning OpenGL rendering off for all but interactions. I.e., choose the http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/9.0/WSAF696587-2D81-42e2-B248-4C5C2B7D3614a.html and turn off http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/9.0/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103a4f2dff7-79e8a.htm l. OpenGL is not compatible with Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing.
I'm not saying that OpenGL is your problem. Rather, because you mentioned your nice graphics card, I just had to stress that you need to forget about that with regard to After Effects. It's not really relevant.
It may be that the jerkiness is an issue with a bottleneck of drawing to the screen. (I don't know, but it's possible.)
Your hard disk being too slow wouldn't be an issue with RAM previews, since the frames are all cached in RAM.
