RAM recommendation for video surveillance/Security Spy software

I'm putting together a video surveillance system for my business. The system will utilize Security Spy software (http://www.securityspy.com/) with 7 or 8 video cameras connected to a G5 dual core 2.3 desktop. The computer will be used exclusively for running the Security Spy software and the cameras will be connected via one or two LFG4-MM PCI cards from Active Silicon (when they get the PCI-Express version of the card for the new G5 produced). Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendation as to how much RAM I should install on the G5 desktop. I know more RAM is always better . . . but also expensive. I do not want to purchase extra RAM if the tasks my computer will be performing will be limited by the CPU, disk, or PCI card(s). I'm thinking 2.5 or 4.5 gigs will be ok? I'm looking for some cost-benefit analysis with regard to the amount of RAM. Thanks for your response and insight.

The more RAM the better but 2.5 gigabytes should be fine if that's all the G5 is going to be doing. You're probably better off investing in a few 750 GB hard drives to store the video.

  • HP Pavilion DV2716ca - Reduce the amout of RAM allocated for video card

    Hello,
Is there a way to reduce the amout of RAM allocated for video card?I don't play games so only 16-32Mb should be more than enough
I have 4Gb of RAM and only 2.99 are available. I know that for a 32bit OS only 3.4-3.6Gb are available.
    Thanks,
    Adrian

    Hi @adrian_d ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv2716ca Entertainment Notebook and wanted to reduce the amount of Ram allocated to your video card. I do not recommend this as this could cause overheating or overworking the card. Here is a link that might help with performance issues.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Hardware/software recommendation for video capture prior to edit on home ba

i am a FCP user on a G5. i need to begin to load and initially edit video while traveling and then take that FC project file and load it onto my home based G5 for further work. i am considering a macbook and FC express to accomplish this task.
    my questions are:
does it matter that the new macbooks are intel processors and my G5 is not intel based? will i have any compatibility problems with SW/file transfers.
is FC Express the best SW to use for the load and initial edits?
is there a best practice recommendation for what i want to do?
    thank you.

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   use FCP HD 5.0.1

FCP will run on a MacBook. It's not support, and the Studio is not supported because of Motion's graphics requirements, but quite a few people are running FCP on basic MacBooks. Just make sure it has enough RAM.

  • Seeking Laptop Recommendations For Video Editing On-The-Go (Around $1,000)

    Hi there,
I am seeking recommendations for a laptop great for video editing. I am a YouTuber with an on-the-go lifestyle.
    Budget is $1,000ish.
I need to be able to physically lock the laptop with one of those holes on the side.
I want to be able to multi-task well by having a variety of programs open at once.
    Thanks for the help.

Well that is a tall request   Take a look at this factory refurbished starter unit.  I acquired a similar refurbished unit just a year ago and upgraded it with more RAM and SSD drives.  The upgrade process is extremely simple.  You could start with the unmodified unit and as you run into performance problems upgrade gradually.  My laptop is now editing three camera timelines of AVCHD 1920 x 1080 with ease.  I now have 24 GB of RAM and got rid of the 1 TB 5400 rpm by cloning it to a 128 GB SSD drive and adding a second very good SSD in the available port.  Removing one screw gives you full access to do this.  Here is a picture of the bottom of my laptop.
Edit, I just checked and it does have a Kensington security slot
You do realize that the only way to do video editing is to have the laptop AC powered.

  • Single server solution for video surveillance

Do we have a single server solution for Cisco video surveillance? Something similar to the Business Edition 6000 series in unified communications.
    If yes, please provide information.
    Thanks in advance

Cisco VSM can be used as single server solution depending upon your requirement. you could install Management server (which manages recordings) and VSOM (Operation Manager which manages you user profile and user interface) on a single server.
please refer to below doc for more info.

  • Apple recommendations for video quality

We are making videos to upload (not stream) on the iPad (and intending to use H.264). The tech specs indicate what the iPad can handle (160kbps, 48kbps, 640x480 pixels, 30 frames per second), but I can't find Apple's recommendations for optimum video.
    Any advice?

I took a look at the movies that I have bought through iTunes, all of which play on my G3 iPod Nano. They are all around 127 kbps, but the sizes range from StarTrek at 1280 x 530 to a Pixar short at 640 x 268. No frame rate listed in the metadata.

  • Which adobe product would be recommended for video?

    Hi!
I'm looking to create a video that is essentially like a "Virtual Tour". I was wondering what Adobe product would be best to use to create such a video? Is there one that would allow me to build scenes or incorporate audio files?
    Thank you!

Premier Pro And After Effect are 2 Adobe software are mainly for the Video edting and composting. Premier Pro is mainly for for Video Editing and After Effect can used for composting.
Present available version of both the software are compatible on 64 bit OS and trial can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads and later you can purchase the full version after trying the same for 30 days.

  • Recommendations for Video Capture Software?

    Hi,
I'm looking for screen/video capture software to record what's on my macbook screen in video format. I've been looking at Camtasia, but wanted to know if there are any other alternatives I should consider as well?
I need something that will record what I do on my macbook screen, as well as let's me annotate and edit what's been recorded. Any recommendations?
    Thanks!

This is a bit strange with apple servers today. For some strange reason, there seems to be a 5-10 min. delay in my post on this one thread only ....very weird.
Oh well, I'll post the info again in hope that it sticks ....
You can capture to iMovie which is what I suggest or directly to iDVD6 (via 1 step or magic iDVD). Your choice.

  • RAM Recommendations For MBP

Hi, I just bought a MBP a month ago and wanted to upgrade the RAM to have it run my video editing softwares swiftly. I want to keep one of my original apple RAM sticks in case I have to return the laptop for repairs to apple and they create fuss about it. So I was wondering which is the best RAM to combine with the stock 1GB RAM to have a total of 3GB?
And also does anyone know what brand of RAM comes with the MBP?
    Thanks

Hey, Vivz. Welcome to the forum, and congrats on getting a MBP. Good choice.
First off: Most likely, you have Samsung RAM in your comp. I believe that's what the two latest versions ship with.
Second: I recommend that you skip right over 3GB and go straight to 4GB. I suggest this for two reasons. 1) It will be faster. 2) The MBP uses a dual-channel system, and you will slow down a bit with 3GB. Sure, you would notice a boost in some apps, but you wouldn't be getting your money's worth.
I am partial to Kingston RAM, personally. It comes with a lifetime warranty, and it's simply amazing. I recommend a Kingston 4GB Apple Notebook Memory kit from Newegg.com. That's what I use, and WOW is it much faster. Make sure you get the APPLE memory. If you get regular PC RAM, it may or may not work correctly. That happened to me on my other Mac.
    Here's a link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134560
For $90.00 USD, that's a great deal. I've had absolutely no problems with mine.
By the way, are you sure you have 1GB stock? The new MBP's ship with 2GB standard.
    Regards,
    Michael

  • Video Surveillance - Security Camera System

    Hi,
Wondering if anyone knows of a MAC compatible system or option... I have searched the forums but can't find anything specific to what I want. I have found capture cards and software for my PC... but I want it for my MAC, mainly because I like the stability of my G5 over my PC...
thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi jagered-
I've actually been pondering putting my dp2.7 G5 to work as the security monitor. There are some folks that claim to have fairly elaborate systems set up this way.
Depending upon the interface of the camera, you can get USB and FireWire PCI cards with 4-6 ports on each card. If the cameras are wireless that can work as well. There are also wired and wireless internet cameras that might fit the bill.
I have this Windows program that came with a DLink camera I bought that monitors up to 4 wireless cameras. I've used it with two cameras myself. Most of the little web-cams on the market have some kind of built-in web-server that makes for far simpler video uploads to a networked Mac.
My experience with any setup is that wireless is an overrated feature for a camera and going with something wired, if possible, is always preferred.
I have found this site helpful: MacWireless

  • Recommendations for remote pc to mac software

Does anyone know of any reliable software for monitoring a Mac from a Windows PC.
I use a PC when travelling but use a Mac when at home, sometimes I need to access my Mac to get information is it possible to do this.
    Thanks

    Hi
    Yes it is possible.
    http://www.uvnc.com/
    http://www.tightvnc.com/
    http://www.realvnc.com/
Are three I've tried and that work. You might have to pay for the Enterprise version if using UltraVNC. You have to enable Remote Management on the Mac. System Preferences > Sharing. Make sure you enable the "VNC viewers may control screen with password" option in the Computer Settings. You supply the password defined there when accessing the mac using Real, Tight or Ultra VNC. Make sure Port 5900 is open and forwarding to the internal IP address of the mac client. If you're concerned about security then use VPN.
Another solution I've heard others use is:

  • Recommendations for Video Capture

I've had my MacBook for about a month now...and am looking to start messing around with some home movies.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should buy for a video capture device?

  • Any recommendations for video camera?

    Hi all
thought this would be a good place to ask for advice
My church is looking into getting a grant to buy some equipment and one of the pieces that is required is a video camera.
One of the people involved has plans on using it to podcast our coffee house and summer concert series that we host.
As i am the videographer and webcaretaker, i have input, but my experience is limited to a high end Sony videocam used for broadcasting (which I used in a course i taught 10 years ago) ... one extreme ... and the Canon Elura dv video cam that i own (and use when I tape the Christmas lessons service) and, the other extreme: my Panasonic Z28 digital camera that i use to tape clips of concerts to post on our website.
    Here are MY requests:
    • it must also be able to tape to a card, so that i can easily copy .mov files to my computer for the little mini bits that I put on the website (much more convenient than capturing video for this purpose)
    • tape, not dvd or hard drive, unless you can give me a good reason not to
    • can plug in cables for sound systems, or at least an external mic
    • price around $3000 (Canadian)
    • but a 'pre-owned' one might be a good value, too
Any and all recommendations are welcome

    thrillcat editorial wrote:
Um, you are basically saying that it must be Blue, but it can't be blue unless you give me a good reason.
Well, that's just being silly and unhelpful:
    • some video cameras tape to a hard drive only .... i find that useless: it limits you in size and or quality of what you can tape.
    • Others use dvd: from what i understand this compresses the data, affecting quality ...
However, tapes contain raw and uncompressed footage.
That's my understanding of these media.
Now, if you can give me a reason to use dvd or hard drive video cameras that corrects a misunderstanding that I possibly have, then please do so.
Besides, what 'blue' are you referring to: cerulean? azure? prussian? cobalt? ultramarine? As you can see, limiting oneself to 'blue' is not really a limitation.

  • Apple recommendations for videos

I had videos on my computer before I bought my new iPod and when I couldn't get them on my iPod I checked the website and did what you recommended because they were in the wrong form. It still doesn't work, it will not let me put .mov files on or the files created when exporting from QuickTime 7 Pro like they say... has anyone had this problem before? does anyone know what to do? anything would help..

Hey, .mov files dont work on the ipod (well not on mine at least), i found that qt pro 7 is useless for converting videos to .mp4 try using videora/psp video 9 (windows) or handbrake (for mac)
