RAM settings for BIOS 1.5 (P965 Platinum)

Since upgrading to BIOS 1.5 there now is some extra settings when doing memory timings manually. (SPD disabled)
DRAM TRFC, TWR, TWTR, TRRD & TRTP.
My memory is Corsair XMS2 2048 DDR2 800  6400C4 & I had it set to 4-4-4-12 with BIOS 1.4.
Does anyone know what settings the rest should be set to?
Searched the net endlessly tonight to no avail.

yep, but they are strongly individually depend of memory used. best will be to leave them to default values. or if they must be filled check memory Advanced SPD reading with RMMA (RightMark Memory Analyzer) to findout default values. or just leave them to Auto and then check values assigned with some appl. like Everest.

  • Bios Settings For MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum MB

Hello all...  Has anyone came up with the best and most stable bios settings for the MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum motherboard yet.  Specifically under the CPU and Memory menus.
If anyone has seen any, please post them. or post a link.
    Thanks

Well that depends on the installed CPU and memory, doesnt it? So I find that question kinda odd.
One thing though: Dont use Cool n Quiet.

  • Best Bios Settings for stability/performance on Neo2 Platinum?

My sys has been running for several days and has cut off twice.  Wondered if any of my settings in Bios could be responsible.  Before getting to the general questions about the Bios, wanted to ask for answers to questions generated after running Sis Sandra Lite.
    1.  SMBios/DMI info may be inaccurate
    2.  Check vCore settings.  vCore less than rated minimum
    3.  Check to see if Bios is being shadowed
    My responses to the above:
    1.  Don't know what to do
    2.  Cool 'N Quiet says my vCore is 1.06, but the BIOS says 1.45.  What's up?
    3.  In Bios I have "system bios cacheable" enabled, so doesn't that take care of shadowing?
I've been spending a lot of time in the Bios and realize there are several things that I have left at default because I don't know what the #@!* they are.  Can anyone give suggestions on best choices for these settings:
    1.  Advanced Bios Features:
         Gate A20=Fast (Other Options=Normal)
         APIC Function=Enabled (Disabled)
         MPS Table Version=1.4 (1.1)
    2.  Advanced Chipset Features
         AGP Aperture Size=128 (32,64,256,512)
         AGP Fastwrite=Enabled (Disabled)
    3.  Onboard I/O Chip Setup
         EPP Mode Select= EPP1.7 (EPP1.9)
         ECP Mode USE DMA=3 (1)
    4.  Power Management
         Sleep State=S1(POS)  (S3(STR))
Video Off Method=DPMS Support (Blank Screen, V/H Sync+Blank)
    5.  Cell Menu
         High Performance Mode= Manual (Optimized)
         Spread Spectrum=Enabled (Disabled)
         Adjust AGP Frequency=66 (67, 68, ...73)
         Adjust CPU VID=startup (1.4,1.425,1.450 ...1.550)
         Adjust CPU Ratio=startup (4, 4.5, 5, ...7)
    In general:
Voltages stable in CNQ & Bios
    CPU Temps=low 40's
Sis Sandra and Performance Test, based on Prime95, didn't ring any bells about my memory.  I downloaded mem86, but don't know how to use it.  Any advice, does it run under Windows?
I'm throwing a lot of stuff at you, but i would appreciate any and all advice.

    1.  Parallel Port=SPP.  Do you recommend this instead of EPP/ECP?
Sorry don't use it so can't help Leave on default i would guess

    2.  Spread Spectrum=Disabled  What does it do and why is it better disabled?
see [ur=https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=54798.0l]The Complete Guide to Spread Spectrum  [/url] If you go into the cell menu & watch the spread spectrum whilst you increase saty the FSB from 200 you will see spread spectrum turn itself off. So to some extent you can leave it to look after itself. But there have been occasions when disabling it has helped stability.

    3.  Why does Cool 'N Quiet report such a different vCore (1.06) from the Bios (1.45)? It also reports 201 Mhz X 5 = 1004Mhz.  In the Bios the Front Side Bus is 200
Do you mean CoreCentre with Cool'n'Quiet enabled ?? Another Good Read  Cool 'n' Quiet FAQ The 201 instead of 200 is normal

  • What client settings for BIOS or MEBx do I need preconfigure for Out Of Band Management in SCCM 2012?

    Hi,
    On the Client:
What BIOS or MEBx setting do I need preconfigure for Out Of Band Management in SCCM 2012?
Or can I remotly configure BIOS or MEBx settings from SCCM 2012 or Intel SCS?
    /SaiTech

    Thanks,
Now I see, with Intel SCS add-on for SCCM 2012 it will be the most simple solution. Even better than to have Intel scs standalone, that was an complex setup on dhcp and so on...
Just one thing more, When you configure AD for AMT you have to set a OU. but if you have computers in two ou, I cant see how I can configure that?

How fast can you run your Corsair?  I think that's the key to answering your question.
Yes the PQI is fast.  (Its no faster than any other TCCD ram, however:  Corsair XL, OCZ Rev2, G.Skill etc. - all the TCCD's offer similar performance.)
Personally I don't think the higher FSB you would get from the PQI would justify the upgrade on its own.  Running your CPU at say 8x275 compared to stock 11x200 will benchmark better, sure.  But I doubt you'd notice much speed improvements in everyday use.

  • KT4 Ultra RAm settings?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my system to a KT4 ultra, athlon 2200+XP, 512MB Crucial 2100 DDRAM and an MSI GF4 Ti4600.
Now its running ok, but I think its running a tad under par. Its benching about 10900 on 3DMark 2001. Which aint the best.
I was wondering about changing the RAM settings in BIOS. Would they have much of effect?
Also what about flashing the BIOS, with version 1.1? I'm very wary about doing that because the last couple of times I flashed a bios it screwed the motherboard up royally. Is it worth the risk?

    Hi,
You may try "Load High Performance Default" in the BIOS. If it works, good, you should get few extra marks by some margin. If it caused instability to the system, don't force it, revert to BIOS Setup Default.
The effect of those RAM settings can only be seen by benchmarks. Normal usage, you can hardly feel any difference.
For BIOS, "if it aint broke, don't fix it". Most BIOS updates do not meant to improve performance, but for bug fix and to support new hardware. Read the BIOS update info you'll know what has been fixed/updated.

  • P965 Platinum IDE/SATA BIOS settings

    Hi all,
After playing with my system I finally managed to find a proper setting for my SATA hard drive and IDE DVD-RW. If you want to meke this kind of configuration working first of all download the latest JMicron driver from MSI website. Then disable IDE as a master, put the SATA cable to the SATA socket no.1. In this way your DVD/CD will be working as a slave while the HD is a master. In this configuration the time to load windows is the shortest and there is no lag when using the DVD. The transfer DVD to HD is also excellent.
    Good luck.

Please can you clarify what you mean when you disable IDE as master - is this in windows or bios? ??? The potential bios options are as follows:
    1. On board raid controller
Setting to IDE : I get the DVD RW Recognised as a IDE device and burning capabilities (windows uses the standard IDE drivers not Intel or jmicro)
Setting to RAID:  windows recognises the DVD RW as a SCSI device but I don't seem to get any burning facilities with the device (windows uses the jmicro SCSI driver)
    2. On chip ATA devices
2.1 IDE master enabled  : DVD RW works OK including burning capabilities
IDE master disabled :  DVD RW works OK but cant burn a disk
2.2 Setting SATA#1  to ACHI rather than raid Windows hangs (blue screen) during boot up
Setting  SARA#1 to RAID windows boots OK and hard drive recognised as ATA drive
(2.2 I know is caused by the fact that I set up the drive as a RAID drive during windows set up so no problem there.)

  • Suggested K8T Neo BIOS settings for CL 3 Kingston Value RAM

    G'evening!
I'll be putting together a system with the Athlon 64 3000 and K8T Neo board and had a question about optimal BIOS settings for paired Kingston non-ECC DDR 3200 RAM (2x512mb) that's CAS 3.  Should have gotten some CAS 2.5 probably but this is what I have for now so in it goes.  I'm reading the quick users guide and noticed that you can manipulate the CAS, TCRD, TRAS, and TRP.
First question:  Will the board's auto detect do a good job in picking out a stable configuration?
2nd question:  If you had to or wanted to make manual settings, what would you suggest?  The CAS value is rather easy since I guess it should be set to 3 but what settings would one pick for the others?
And if I still have your attention...
The other things that will be going in the system are the infamous Maxtor 120 gig SATA HD, a XFX 5900FX video card, Lite-On combo burner.  Powersupply is an Antec Solution Series 400W PS.  After reading the forums for a bit I get the impression that you shouldn't forget to load the SATA Promise drivers so the HD will get recognized.  My SATA drive will be the only drive in the system and will of course be the boot drive.  Any other possible pitfalls or problems I should know about with the Maxtor SATA's and the K8T Neo board?
Also, I had thought I read from a review that the Zalman Al-Cu CPU heatsink/fan will fit on this board.  Of course after seeing it in my hands for the first time I thought that it was a pretty damn big heatsink.  Anyone else using this heatsink? (haven't taken it out of the packaging yet so that's why I wanted some impressions).
Thanks for any advice you can give me.  It's been a bit of time since I built a computer and I'm sure there's alot of basic things I'm relearning along with the fact that the Athlon 64 is fairly new technology.  On the other hand, when it's running smoothly...

Cant offer anything on the Timing, (sorry as I am Intel Fodder ), But I can assure you that the Zalman 7000-AlCu, Will Indeed Fit onto your Motherboard (With Room To Spare!) :biggthumbsup:I can attest to this because My buddy just installed the Zalman 7000-AlCu on his K8T ....And He loves it! As do I ....It's about the only thing that we have in common as far as PC'S Go .........Sean REILLY875

  • P965 RAM settings and more

I have built many systems but have never over clocked so I need to ask you experts a few things. I have the P965 Platinum with a QX6700 quad core on it. My ram is Corsair XMS twin2x2048-6400C4D. Do I need to set the ram settings in the bios for this ram? I found it is to be set at 4-4-4-12 at 2.1 volts at 800 Mhz. http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/products/specs/TWIN2X2048-6400C4D.pdf
Should I set this and anything else in my Bios to make this thing run at top preformance? I would no mind OCing a little as long as it's stable. please advise as I have never done this. Thanks

I wouldn't mess with any manual timming on this board until MSI fixes it,  because it does not set the timings correctly and you would end up with an unstable system.
If your memory is detected at 4-4-4-12 be happy, if it's set to 5-4-4-12 be happy also,  if it's set in 5-5-5-15, then, try to do something about it, other than that there is little to no difference in setting memory lower than that and chances are you won't be able to manually because the BIOS does not set timings correctly when in manual mode.
If you have the chance, disable the FULL SCREEN LOGO and then, press pause key when the computer starts, you should be able to read the timings the BIOS had already set to auto.

  • P965 Platinum BIOS design bug!

Maybe most of P965 Platinum or P965 NEO users have a confusion. Should you have try to set the memory rate in 800 for testing? For example, E6300 is running 333x7=2331mhz and memory is running 999mhz(BIOS SET THE RATE IN 800). So far, no any question has been found in this setting in my machine.
Maybe you will have a question, why my memory rate set in 533 or 667 for OC to 1000mhz or 800mhz will be hang or instability whether set at 5-5-5-x or 4-4-4-x.
Here, do you check the SPD setting? THIS IS A BUG! When we set the memory rate in 533(cpu:memory=1:1), BIOS will auto to read the memory SPD setting(DDR2-533). Such as Corsair 5400C4's SPD: @ 266 MHz 4-4-4-12  (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 15-28-2-4-2  (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR).  When we OC the memory from DDR2-533 to DDR2-1000, the highlighted in red has not auto update the setting to DDR2-1000's parameter.
But as first topic, I can very very stability to OC the memory in DDR2-999(DD2-800's parameter:5-5-5-12-15-42-3-5-4) at P965 Platinum!
Here, how we can adjust the parameter? Only ask MSI's technical to fix this bug!

rklw, for overclocking specific question, please post in the Overclocking forum.
For the RAM settings, please read the sticky thread above on top of this forum, regarding P965 Platinum BIOS. Get the one that all users said it works for setting the RAM timing correctly.

  • P965 Platinum bios v1.4 and E6700 question

    Hi guys.
All you expert. Tell me one thing if enybody know this.
Is FSB 335 = 3.3Ghz ok with a E6700 CPU ? Shoulden it be posible to get much higher with this CPU.
I even have really good Cellshock DDR2800 2.2v 4-4-4-12 ram.
I left the ram timming to 5-5-5-12 becaurse of the platinum board (bios) bug with 4-4-4-12.
But i cant raise the FSB much more than 335-338FSB !
I do have a Zalman 9700Led on it.
If i remember right, someone had around 400FSB with this combination of hardware i have.
Please, advises would be awsome. Would love to get more info about this.
btw, my CPU voltage is around default P965 platinum settings. Is that why ? should i raise the CPU voltage with a E6700 ?
    Thx so far everybody

Hi. alright. Did'nt know that E6600 could be better than E6700 for OC.
Anyway. My system is not unstable. Infact it is rock solid almost what ever i do accept to high FSB.
Thats why i was awsking all those ram (mem) questions. timing etc. What the best settings was for my system.
In my first post is some questions about ram and timming.
My system is infact really nice because it either runs solid or it dosent run at all..
To high FSB and the computer want boot to windows. So right now 333FSB and under sruns smooth.
The thing was. With system running smooth at 333FSB, i wanted to know what the best ram settings
was after finding my good FSB settings.
I tryed manuel ram timing both 5-5-5-12 2T and 3-4-4-12 2T and 5-5-5-18 2T all running good but have no
idea what the best settings is. And oh, set to auto ram in the cell menu.
The reason why it was 3-4-4-12 and not 4-4-4-12 is becaurse the BIOS chances it by it self to 3-4-4-12. Bios bug.
