RAM settings

In FCP5, under system settings. there is an area that says available RAM or RAM usage, something like that, and it was set at 100% (2560MB)
So, does that mean that the maximum amount of RAM that FCP will ever use is 2560MB. I have 8GB of RAM on my machine. I almost always have 4 or 5 programs open at one time, so extra RAM comes in handy, but I'm thinking I over did it on RAM. If that is the maxium FCP will use, then I don't really need that much, do I?
and if that is the case? why is there a limit to the amount of RAM FCP can access? I would think it would be better for any program to access as much RAM as is available.
thanks for any insight anyone can offer.

FCP and Tiger fill up 4 gig's of RAM... that's it's current limit. Probably will change though in the future. Keep in mind that if you have more RAM than that, it will be used by other open applications, and for example, Motion can use All the RAM you can throw at it... so I really don't think you bought way too much RAM, but possibly more than what you'll actually use as of this release of the software if all you run at one time is FCP.

  • What should Ram settings be for FCP 6 doing a slideshow with JPEGS ?

    Hi all,
I am doing a Ken Burns effect slideshow in FCP6 that is using JPEGS only.
I have the 24" intel imac 2.4 gig with 4 gigs of Ram installed.
I am wondering what my ram settings in FCP should be.
there are 4 boxes you can fiddle with the numbers.
first two have sliders and go from 0 to 100%
    "memory usage"
    and also still cache...
what should I be setting these to?
    thanks in advance!
I ask because my system bogs right down with only a few layers and effects in place.
what should my sequence settings be as well when working only with JPEG?
I normally edit in easy DV NTSC....

    Thanks guys.
I have found that I cannot resize and get a clean movement here in FCP.
I tried the cutting approach jim and that at least got me through the placement of the pics to the song and then I started the motions. I also checked and then unchecked the shadow once I had it set where I wanted. I like to work through each pic from start to finish so i know exactly where I am at each night when I go to bed and then where I start again the next evening after my day job!
    haha
but yes unchecking the shadows and feathered edges definately bought me some more time before render.
I appreciate all the helpful advise here. You guys pour so much knowledge out there for us and mostly without even much thanks to you in return.
One question I would still have now that I have fiddled around with all my settings....
would anyone have the time and the knowledge to help me figure out what the "proper" settings should be for my setup for editing regular sd dv ntsc footage?
or when I click easy setup dv ntsc does it configure my system for optimal settings each time?
ie what should my ram settings be?
    thanks in advance.
    see sig for setup.

  • P965 RAM settings and more

I have built many systems but have never over clocked so I need to ask you experts a few things. I have the P965 Platinum with a QX6700 quad core on it. My ram is Corsair XMS twin2x2048-6400C4D. Do I need to set the ram settings in the bios for this ram? I found it is to be set at 4-4-4-12 at 2.1 volts at 800 Mhz. http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/products/specs/TWIN2X2048-6400C4D.pdf
Should I set this and anything else in my Bios to make this thing run at top preformance? I would no mind OCing a little as long as it's stable. please advise as I have never done this. Thanks

I wouldn't mess with any manual timming on this board until MSI fixes it,  because it does not set the timings correctly and you would end up with an unstable system.
If your memory is detected at 4-4-4-12 be happy, if it's set to 5-4-4-12 be happy also,  if it's set in 5-5-5-15, then, try to do something about it, other than that there is little to no difference in setting memory lower than that and chances are you won't be able to manually because the BIOS does not set timings correctly when in manual mode.
If you have the chance, disable the FULL SCREEN LOGO and then, press pause key when the computer starts, you should be able to read the timings the BIOS had already set to auto.

  • KT4 Ultra RAm settings?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my system to a KT4 ultra, athlon 2200+XP, 512MB Crucial 2100 DDRAM and an MSI GF4 Ti4600.
Now its running ok, but I think its running a tad under par. Its benching about 10900 on 3DMark 2001. Which aint the best.
I was wondering about changing the RAM settings in BIOS. Would they have much of effect?
Also what about flashing the BIOS, with version 1.1? I'm very wary about doing that because the last couple of times I flashed a bios it screwed the motherboard up royally. Is it worth the risk?
    Ta

    Hi,
You may try "Load High Performance Default" in the BIOS. If it works, good, you should get few extra marks by some margin. If it caused instability to the system, don't force it, revert to BIOS Setup Default.
The effect of those RAM settings can only be seen by benchmarks. Normal usage, you can hardly feel any difference.
For BIOS, "if it aint broke, don't fix it". Most BIOS updates do not meant to improve performance, but for bug fix and to support new hardware. Read the BIOS update info you'll know what has been fixed/updated.

  • MSI Fast - Turbo - Ultra RAM settings on KT6V

    hi, I have a KT6V mobo with 1 bank Twinmos 512MB ram.
I am trying to have the best RAM performance changing bios setting.
    I have a strange result:
Ultra mode + cas 2,5 give me best results than Turbo mode + cas 2. ( Ultra mode + cas 2 crash )
What MSI Ultra mode does to give bigger results of cas 2 ? Does it increment the RAM BUS ?
What are the best suggestions ?
    Thanks

The selection in the BIOS is for over-clocking only. But some memories can't be over-clocked and caused the compatibility issue.
** We strongly recommend all end users to update the BIOS to the version 1.3. **
That was taken from the BIOS page for the KT6V, so apparently those settings were causing problems for many users.

  • Quick Help w/ Ram Settings

Hey I got a question for you.
    I have a MSI Neo2 Platinum, with an Athlon 64 3500.
    I have 2x512 DDR500 PC4000 sticks of ram.
My question is, I always see people typing their settings in (ie: 3.0-2-2-6) I've tried to read up, but I just dont get it. Anyhow, what should my settings be at? All I do is play video games on this computer, and all I want out of my ram is what I paid for which is the ddr500 and pc4000 specs. Any suggestions?

My advice for what its worth - dont sweat it man!
its usually not worth much in terms of performance - just leave em set at Auto

  • A88XI AC RAM settings help!

    Hi Guys,
I'm a complete noob when it comes to PC building, so go easy lol
I've built a budget gaming PC using the A88XI AC motherboard a A10 7850 and 8GB of Corsair Vengence 2133Mhz RAM.
The system works ok, but the RAM speeds reported are only showing as 667Mhz or 1066Mhz depending on where I look.
    But I don't really understand.
    RAM specs are: CMZ8GX3M2A2133C11R - 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Racing Red, PC3-17066 (2133), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 11-11-11-27, XMP, 1.5V
Could anyone guide me through the BIOS settings to setup the RAM please?

Your memory has native 1333 chips on it and in the memory profile, one of the profiles will be an XMP or AMP profile which allows an invoked overclock of 2133.
By default the memory will be at 1333 (667) when the BIOS first detects it.
You need to go into your BIOS and set your memory to apply XMP or AMP depending on which one your memory has.
You can download and use CPUZ. In the SPD tab, all the memory programmed JEDEC profiles will be visible and it will also show if its XMP or AMP.
Suggest you go onto the MSI main site and download the full user manual for your board, Then go to the BIOS section of the manual and see where to access the memory control. You dont have to use the XMP settings, you can also set the memory manually according to the JEDEC specs that are reflected in the SPD tab.

  • Questions on Ram settings

Ok so i just bought some new ram. I went with the corsair pc4000 ddr 500 3-4-4-8 to replace my current corsair pc3200 ddr400 2-3-3-6.
My system is running as follows now:
    2.75 ghz
    250 fsb
    11x multi
    4x ht
Ht link is right at 1000
    Ram is:
    166
    195.5 frequency
    2-3-3-6 1t
So my question is what setting can i change when i drop the new ram in? Can i change the 166 to 180 or even 200 and keep everything else the same? I have heard that ram running up to 290 with 3-4-4-8 timings.. My current ram wont break 205 at 2-3-3-6..

It will run with exactly 250mhz (DDR500) with the above settings (not 248), cause the index/divider is actually not 180
if the boards bios is set accordingly
    The memory divider is : "Cpu Multiplier  X (200/index) "  =>  "10 x (200/183) " = 10,9 is rounded up to next whole integer value 11
    So Ram speed will be
    Cpu freq/Memory divider  =>  2750mhz/11 = 250mhz(DDR500) exactly
That OcCalc tool uses 180 which is not correct.
It makes the same error for 166 also .
    10 x 300 = 3000mhz cpu , and this is 250mhz(DDR500) for memory also , not 249 . This as 166 is actually 166.6666667

  • P45D3 Platinum Motherboard Ram Settings and detection

Well i have this motherboard and 1333 MhZ DDR-3 RAM (2*1GB dual channel kit by MDT).
The OC jumpers are at default which means 200 MHz FSB.
I have all on AUTO detection in the bios wherever possible.
    The manual says Memory Support:
    4 DDR3 DIMMS 1333/1066/800 MHz and up.
The problem i got is that my memory is only detected as 1066 MHZ and there is no way to get a higher setting with the standard settings you can choose, 1:2 being the highest.
What do i have to do to run my memory at 1333 MHz?
    Bios is version 1,4

  • 1066 ram settings on K9A2 Platinum

    Hey every one,
I want to buy this ram    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104073,
But in the reviews, i saw that i have to manually adjust the voltage & the bus speed ratio or something like that rite ?
Well i don't know much about it. Some one please help me out here.
    My specs are:
AMD Athlon X2 6000+   (will change to Phenom II 720)
Msi K9A2 Platinum         Bios version is 1.7 so no worries for phenom support
Ati 4850                    ( WIll change it to EVGA gtx 260 core 216 SC edition)
Windows Vista 32bit.    ( will also change this to windows 7 soon)
So please tell me how to change the Voltage & the ratio in the Bios.      Thank You

Yes, definitely read the sticky. It will help you out.
Basically, what the people are telling you about that RAM on newegg, is that it is DDR2-800, with an enhanced over clocked profile, which needs extra voltage for the increased mhz (unfortunately this does mean it will run with a more relaxed latency).
In my experience, seeing as I too have enhanced profile DDR2-800 chips, is you won't see much of a performance increase (if any) between the 2 settings. I've done benchmark run after benchmark run, and while there is an increase between the two profiles, for gaming it's negligible at best.
Pretty much, you'd be asking for a bit more voltage our of your power supply for those chips if you were to run them at the 1066 spec. I have the same motherboard, but I am using G. Skill memory. Like I said, I have run both profiles with benchmarks to see if there is a difference. There is a difference, but it's not a lot, due to the more relaxed latency at 1066.

  • What should my processor and RAM settings be?

    I have the K8N Neo2 mobo w/ AMD64 3500 and Ballistx 3200.  I've looked for the answers...but couldn't really find any clear cut solutions.
I care not for overclocking...but I do want the computer to be running to its full "stock" potential.  I've read on the forums that the Ballistx may be a bit "underclocked" by the BIOS defaults...but I couldn't find what settings it should be.  Same with the processor...there is HT there and dynamic o/c that with some voltages thrown in for fun.  What should a good setting be?  Sort of scared to jump in and adjust things...for fear of corrupting my main HD located on SATA1.
So...if anyone has a similar setup...please share your settings.
Oh...and how can you tell USB 2 vs. USB 1 by windows itself?
    Thanks again for the assistance.

Don't know answer to your cpu/ram question.  But if you have everything in auto, you're probably good.  At least, you could set RAM to 1T instead of 2T.  1T is faster.
About USB.  If you plug a USB 2 device into a USB 1.1 port, Windows XP will pop up a little message balloon by the system tray that will say something like "You have plugged a high speed device into a USB 1.1 port" or something similar.  If you don't get this balloon, then it operating at USB 2.
FYI, in Device Manager of XP SP2 I have:
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
    Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
    Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
    USB Root Hub
    USB Root Hub
    USB Root Hub
And all of my USB ports, including the D-bracket, are working as USB 2 ports.  I think the "Standard Enhanced" thing is the USB 2 driver.
    Good luck.

  • Z87-G43 bios wont take 2133Mhz ram settings

Hi, I have an i7 4770k, z87-g43 gaming motherboard with 16GB 2133Mhz ripjaws RAM. Whenever I try to run the ram higher than 1600 Mhz it fails, I tried using OC genie, it fails, I tried using the X.M.P profiles, they fail, tried running any voltage between 1.5 and 1.65v with 2133Mhz it fails. If anyone has any idea what I could do it would be greatly appreciated. I have tried 11-11-11-30 timings @ 2133Mhz and 1.6v and 1.65v, tried just one stick at 2133, tried the set at 1866 with 10-10-10-27, tried both XMP profiles and they all say overclock failed, F1 to setup or F2 to set default.
    ram model is F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZ
also on the sticker it says DDR3-2133 CL11-11-11-30 1.60v PC3-17000 4Gx4 intel XMP ready.

You may never be able to run 4 channels at that speed.
Do they work with the memory installed into DIMMS 2 & 4?
There have been numerous memory fixes in the bios notes that might help: >>BIOSes<<
Might want to try increasing the vdroop to the cpu and defiantly set the dramv to 1.65
The performance difference is actually very small from 1600- 2133, but if you really want to run the memory like that you may need to get some different ram. You would look for 11-11-11-30  1.5v memory, Corsair vengeance or dominator are highly recommended.
