Ram stuck in MacBook pro

Hi,
So I have to take my MacBook pro into the genius bar to get the battery replaced as it has failed. To be safe I decided that I would change the ram back to the standard 4gb that it came with as I upgraded to 8gb. I managed to remove the 8gb fine and put the 4 gb back in. I then booted up my MacBook pro to discover that only one slot was working. I then reopened my mac and pushed the top one down further as it didn't appear to be in position. I heard it then click into position as it normally would. One again I booted up my mac and only one slot of ram was working. I then reopened my mac once more but this time the ram appears to be jammed as I cannot release the top one using the clips and nothing happens. Only one slot is currently working, which is 2gb.
Is there anything I can do to release the jammed ram. After a few searchers it appears that I am not the only person this has happens to, so it must be somewhat of a common occurrence, although it didn't happen when I first upgraded my ram.
Also as I am going to the genius bar tomorrow would they be happy enough to fix it for me. I only ask because this is something that I have done myself, and the apple care policy does not cover accidental damage, although I'm sure it's only a case of them getting the ram out and making sure it is correctly inserted, although what would happen if it was something more serious or they will not do it?
My MacBook pro is a mid 2010 model.
Thanks

I'd just ask the genius bar folks to have a go at it. It's doubtful that you damaged anything. Just take your 8GB in and ask them to install it when they replace the battery - there will likely be no charge.

  • Ram stuck in MacBook Pro. HELP PLEASE

Today I bought 8GB ram for my MacBook Pro late 2011 15 inch so I removed the previous ram that came with the MacBook Pro no problem but  when I went to go put the first Ram in I accidentally pushed it to far into the bottom and now it's stuck. What can I do to get it out!!! It's jammed in there tight and won't move i've tried pushing it away from the  back metal part but no luck. If I take it into the Genius Bar will they charge me for it I'm still under warranty It doesn't look like I have broken anything just the ram is stuck . Please help anybody !?

If I take it into the Genius Bar will they charge me for it
Even if they do, it will cost you a lot less than a new logic board, which is what you'll need if you cause damage while trying to extract the DIMM's by force.

  • 128 MB video ram on a macbook pro - enough to drive the new 30"?

128 MB video ram on a macbook pro - enough to drive the new 30"?
meaning, can it do this well???

Even 16 MB VRAM would be enough to display a 2D picture on the 30".
Depending on 3D usage you need much VRAM.
Unless you are using a lot of the latest 3D games or Apples 3D pro apps (Motion/Shake or something like that) 128 MB should be fine.

Can I install one 8 GB ram in a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011).  The other slot is not working, I have only one slot that works. It is stated in this link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270#link1 , that the maximum memory is 8 GB where every slot slot has 4 Gb.  Is there any problem if i install only one 8 Gb ram in the working slot ?

You should be able to do that.

Understand that there is no guarantee it will work, but based on the above it should work for you.

  • Installing RAM, Mid-2012 Macbook Pro?

Can a user or owner install RAM, Mid-2012 Macbook Pro?
Is it a straightforward process? I've installed RAM into DT macs..and into a "Pismo" era powerbook.
    thank you

"is a Spudger absolutely necessary to remove that plug,"
Battery plug? No you can just  use your fingernails. I actually use a #3 Master Airscrew nylon propellor from the hobby shop, cut in half and wrapped w/ self fusing electrical tape. I have about 6 of them and half are pretty worn out.
"are there any screws or other parts which might wish to fly out and away as a person opens the case and gets at this task?"
No it's just the way the bottom fits on to the MBP. You fit it in the back (near the vent) first, then pull it forward and into place.
The other thing is the screws are different lengths in the bottom so just keep track of where they belong. If you don't force anything you won't get into trouble because it's fairly obvious if you have the wrong screw in the wrong place. If you're doing a super pro job you would add a tiny dot of blue "Thread Loc" to the tip of the screw when you put it back.

  • RAM on a macbook pro 2012

I have been looking at youtube videos regarding changing the RAM on my macbook pro.
Is there a big difference from 4GB of RAM to 8GB ?
My macbook is still very new and under full warrenty both with apple and the store where it was bought.
If i was to change it to 8GB would i be best taking it to apple to do this to keep the warrenty in order and
would i see a difference with the speed that my macbook pro works ?
    Thanks

Not if your uses are mostly email, web, and office in one app at a time. 4GB is fine for that.
If you edit graphics and photos a lot, as a student or for a living, 8GB is more or less required. Or if you like to keep a lot open, like lots of browser tabs or lots of programs open at the same time.
I was doing some high-res photo/video work the other day and I ran out of RAM very quickly on an 8GB Mac because of the number of apps I had open and the size of the documents. 16GB would have been great for that type of work.

Yes that is your best bet.  Without looking at it too closely double check your options here:

  • HT1270 does installing aftermarket RAM into new macbook pro non-retina void apple warranty

does installing aftermarket RAM into new macbook pro non-retina void apple warranty

Only for the RAM which should be covered by the manufacturers/vendors warranty.  Now if you damage the MBP while installing the RAM then you may find yourself voiding the MBP warranty.  But ir does take a lot to do that.
    Ciao.

  • Can you mix ram in a MacBook Pro

  • Im thinking about buying OWC ram for my macbook pro.

Im thinking about buying OWC ram for my macbook pro but dont know if it will have negative affects on my computer, should i do it?

Only if you install it wrong or use the wrong RAM.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
Use the free Crucil.com checker to doublecheck if you need too.
You don't want Apple to do it, they quoted me $435 to upgrade $70 worth of RAM.
Do it yourself or have a local geek friend (PC or Mac) do it, it's not hard, unles you got bad eyesight and can't see the tiny screws. Use a catch mat, follow proper anti-static and handling. (touch only plastic)
Break something inside, your on your own though. No warranty coverqge or AppleCare for self inflicted damage.
