RAM Upgrade Help for Acer Aspire V5-551-8401

I only see 1 RAM slot for my Acer Aspire V5-551-8401 and it has the factor 2GB RAM card loaded into it, yet my computer shows 4GB of total RAM, In not sure how. I'm running the factory installed Windows 8. Can I load a 4GB RAM into that slot instead? Am I just not seeing the 2nd slot? There appears to be soom copper thing screwed into the location where I would have expected to se a second RAM slot, and the copper continues up to the cooling fan. I wanted to increase the RAM to 8GB to see if it helps with performance (which is slow) but now became confused when I saw what I described above. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks! Mark

  • Driver Updates for Acer Aspire 5750Z Help

I have successfully did a complete System Restore, which worked great. Bit I'm sure that some, ifnot allo, my drivers should be updated. Where do I get driver updates for Acer Aspire 5750Z. I have  never done anything like this before so if someone could give an old man any advice as to how I should do it would be appreciated. Thank youG

http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers/3681;-;Aspire%205750Z here you will find the latest available for your model, simply click on the download link of the drivers you need to update, then unzip the file (just right click it and choose to extract), then browse to the driver folder and double click install.exe or setup.exe, then follow on screen instructions.

  • Help with Acer Aspire 4339 update. PLEASE HELP.

Okay, I'm already sick and tired of Acer. Since my warrenty is expired, I had to deal with terrible scam site called answersby.com that Acer RECOMMENDED. I cannot believe that they would actually share this TERRIBLE website to their customers. First of all, the live chat service only directed me to the same technician that would'nt reply to ANYTHING that I said. Not only that, the website itself is buggy and whenever when you try to send feedback, you'd have to click it like 6 times in order for it to send. Ha, and get this! There's many many people telling how that website scams people entirely.  Anyways, diving into the CORE of my situation is that recently, I tried playing Sims 3, on this terrible laptop, and my drivers are outdated.  (Horrah!) So I was like, okay, let's update. Come to find out, the updated drivers are 2011 which I don't even know why. Yes, yes I know. Acer Aspire 4339, so so old. But in order to actually download most things, you aren't able to update the Intel Graphics since it's customized by Acer.  (Great!) *sarcasm* Also, whenever I try to update my chipset with the lovely Intel Update utility, I'm slapped in the face with errors. Went to Acer and my product, I can't download the chipset? I don't know. I'm confused on why there's OUTDATED software for Acer Aspire 4339. Not only that, I need an UPDATED version of Intel HD Graphics. The latest driver is literally from 2011. Come on. Why would the video card even be customized by Acer????  Ugh, if ANYONE can find me an UPDATE for Intel HD Graphics on the Intel website thank you, you've saved me from ripping my hair out.  Since there isn't any updates, I won't be able to run MODERN gaming software on this computer.  My Computer specs: Intel Celeron(R) CPU P4600Windows 7  Professional 32-bit (Pretty sure that's all you need.)  My GPU is integrated, too. Since it's a laptop. I need to bypass this OUTDATED driver and get one at LEAST in 2012 and later. I tried so hard to avoid this forum, but Acer pushed me too far and now I'm here. So please, save my hair before I rip it out from the frustration that lovely Acer has given me.

bypassing custom Intel drivers is easy. check on programs/features if any Intel VGA drivers is listed and uninstall, if not...go to device manager, choose display adapters, right click your Intel VGA and choose to uninstall, deleting software drivers too. at next reboot, probably windows will be low res  but you will be able to install the latest Intel original VGA drivers.

  • HP Envy 13 1030nr. Windows 7 64-bit. RAM upgrade help.

I just purchased a RAM upgrade for my Envy 13 and I was trying to figure out how exactly to access the memory module.  I couldn't find a youtube video for the Envy 13 and reading the maintenance manual provides only partial instructions to access the memory module.  It tells you what you need to do (Disconnect the TouchPad cable 2 from the low insertion force (LIF) connector on the system board) but not how to do it without damaging the computer.  I don't want to permanently sever a cable or anything so I'm looking for help via a link to a video or more detailed instructions on exactly how to safely access the memory module.
I was under the impression that this would be a quick replacement, but the more I read the manual, the more I think that this is going to be a little more complicated than opening up the bottom and removing the current RAM chip and replacing it with the one I have.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Here is the Manual:
    Manual
Memory is indeed on the motherboard and getting there requires nearly complete disassembly. See Page 4-26. Not sure how this qualifies as "easy" and if you have not done this before you should get some help. And yes, keep careful track of those screws.

  • Will a ram upgrade help this computer.

My family has a 2008 iMac that I never use but my father uses for pictures, Skype etc. The specs are as follows
    iMac
      Model Identifier:           iMac8,1
Processor Name:           Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:           2.66 GHz
      Number of Processors:               1
      Total Number of Cores:               2
      L2 Cache:           6 MB
      Memory:           2 GB
Its running OSX 10.10.2 will a ram upgrade drastically help the performance, it is currently using 1.98 GB of 2 GB of ram when idle, any help would be appreciated 4 GB of ram needed or push it to 6 GB I read on OWC that it can accept 6 GB clarification on that would help. Sorry for the weird question I am a linux/windows user and I am not very knowledgeable with OSX.

2GB of RAM is the minimum system requirements to run Yosemite, 10.10.x. To get a better user experience upgrade the RAM on the 2008 iMac to 6GB, OWC (www.macsales.com) makes a kit for doing so. The link is listed below. You can also contact Crucial.com and they will sell a 1x2GB DIMM and a 1x4GB DIMM (6GB total) however they don't sell the two together as a kit.
The machine currently has 2 x 1GB DIMMs installed, therefore to get to 6GB both DIMMs need to be replaced.

  • Upgrade help for G3 350Mhz OS 10.0.4 to 10.1.5

I've been loaned a Connon PowershotA520 digital camera that requires OS X 10.1.5 to operate camera with my machine. An older B&W G3 350Mhz. with 128MB installed RAM, running Classic 9.1. and OS X 10.0.4 on same hard drive. What is the easiest and least costly way to upgrade to OS X 10.1.5 and not loose Classic? I have a ton of programs and peripherals that want the option of Classic.Other questions - can upgrade be done with CD's or downloads - and will I need RAM upgrade as well? Will it require a full erase and reinstall? Help appreciated.
    B&W G3 350Mhz.   Mac OS X (10.0.x)   128 MB RAM

    Hi Bird 1;
May I welcome you to the Apple Discussion Forum.
I concur with the solution Tom presented to you.
If you still want to upgrade OS X instead, I would suggest that rather then upgrading to 10.1.5 you seriously consider going to at least 10.2.8. When OS X reached 10.2.8 it was a much better operating system then anything that preceded that.

  • Looking for a correct EDID for acer aspire 1690

    Hi guys,
The EDID of my acer aspire got corrupted (the computer is pretty old).
If anyone has an acer aspire 1690 or similar model, can I get a dump of their EDID?
To get a dump, you need to install read-edid and then launch get-edid.
Or if anyone has tips on how to modify modelines to reduce scintillation, that would work too.
I know it's an old computer but it's the only one I have right and probably for a few months.
I would like to not kill my eyes.
    Cheers,

I’m on my third G-Tech external drive and I love their quality. I simply grew out of one and gave it to my son. The new mini works great too although my MacPro doesn’t like it when I partition the drive. It tends to stutter a bit and can lock things up on the MacPro. Still, I plan on buying the G-Safe as soon as I can. They certainly offer RAID Enterprise units although I haven’t used them. G-Tech uses Hitachi drives as the company is owned or associated with Hitachi. Either way, they’re hard to beat.

I have a aao 532h with an Atom N450 processor and use the kernel-netbook package which also supports Atom N550 processors. It works 'out of the box' on my machine and the only thing I would think to check in the config for yours is support for your graphics which I believe is Intel GMA 3150.
I haven't tried the linux-one package as it's for the first aao netbook that came out which didn't have bluetooth.

  • HELP! Acer Aspire 1410-8410: How to create a Win 7 back-up image for clean reinstall?

Hi, I'm trying to create a disk for back-up of the Win 7, but I don't have Acer eRecovery installed on my computer when I looked everything to find the program... Anyone can give me some idea how can I do it???Thanks a lot in advance!

There is not a download for the recovery management, it is installed on the system on a hidden partition unless the hard drive configuration is changed to free up space. That typically involves deleting partitions and such, not something a typical user messes with. Try the steps in this article to see if you can get the process started.

  • Looking for acer aspire one linpus file firefox3.sh.zip

    Hi
I've just reinstalled Linux Linpus lite on my netbook and want to upgrade from ff2 to ver 3 but the files on acer's support website have been removed. The live update works but doesn't update Firefox properly. So I was wondering if you had an acer specific update file anywhere? The specific file I'm after is Firefox3.sh.zip. I;ve been in touch with acer and have had no luck....
    Thanks Tom

That file was probably created by Linpus or by Acer specifically for their program repository and not available from other sources, Mozilla only offers '''tar''' packages for Linux. <br />
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Linux
That version of Linpus Lite may not even have the correct "packages" for Firefox 3+ versions, the key "package" is usually the GTK package being too old.<br />
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/system-requirements-v3.html <br />
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/system-requirements.html - 3.5 & 3.6
Linux on Netbooks only seemed to be popular for a short time here in the US, and IMO, Microsoft killed that "wave" by extending the date they allowed OEM's to sell WinXP Netbooks - until MS could come up with a Win7 Netbook OS. ''(That "date" was almost 2 years later than they allowed the OEM's to install WinXP on any other type of PC. The cost to OEM's was in the range of a couple of dollars, almost matching the zero-cost of Linux to consumers. "Smart marketing" or taking advantage of their "leverage" over OEM's and MS's almost monopolistic control of the OS market to OEM's?)'' As a result, there's little incentive for the various Netbook maker's to keep their Linux software repositories updated and to keep developing the operating system to keep pace with other Linux distros. MS shut that down fast, IMO. <br />
    http://distrowatch.com/
I have an ASUS EeePC 900A, which I bought in Aug 2008, that came with Xandros Linux - Newegg offered me a WinXP OEM disk for $10 with the purchase of the EeePC. That version of Xandros Linux wasn't ever updated by ASUS to be able to run Firefox 3, but I found some Linux forum threads that provided a '''''sh''''' script that would both update the GTK package that Xandros needed for Firefox 3+ versions and install Firefox 3. After the update / installation was complete, I discovered how slow Firefox 3 ran on that old Xandros Linux operating system - it was worse with Firefox 3 than my old Pentium II 350MHz PC w/512 MB RAM was, even though the EeePC has a 900MHz processor and double the RAM (1GB). I dumped Xandros and installed the Ubuntu derived EasyPeasy OS, that came with Firefox 3.6 .
My advice is to install something like the Ubuntu Netbook Edition operating system, or one of the Ubuntu-offshoots like EasyPeasy; both of which come with one of the latest versions of Firefox, and are active projects.

  • Some RAM upgrade questions for G4

I have an iBook G4 1.2GHz 12" with 256 MB of RAM built in. The first stick of RAM I bought to upgrade was bad, somehow, so I returned it. The second stick I bought, from Newegg.com is the following link:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231069
This RAM was PC2 5300, and 1 G. My friend went ahead and bought it for me. I didn't examine too carefully what he bought. When I went to go install it, it didn't quite fit in the slot. The notch was the smallest bit too far to the right.
When I went back to Newegg's website and plugged my computer into their Memory configurator, to see which RAM would work with my computer, it came up with only 3 options, all of which were 512 MB and PC2100. Here's the link to them:
    http://tinyurl.com/3pq6g4
Can anyone help me with this mystery? Is is really only these 3 that work? Am I guaranteed success this time if I just purchase one of these?
    <post edited by host>
    Thanks

    Hi,
Your iBook can use either PC2100 DDR266 200-pin SO-DIMM or PC2700 DDR333 however it will run at only 266 MHz. You're not limited to 512MB either. A 1GB stick will work. Go to OWC or Crucial.com and see what they offer.

  • HP 240 G3 Laptop RAM Upgrade Help

Hi! I just purchased a HP 240 G3 laptop, and would like to upgrade RAM to 8 GB.Here are the laptop specs as obtained from HP support assistant: Model: HP 240 G3 Notebook PCProduct No.: M1V30PA#ACJProcessor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU  N3540  @ 2.16GHzOS: Win 8.1Current RAM: 2GB  Hynix Semiconductor 1333MHz (DDR3) Can I go for a 8GB Transcend 1600 MHz, or should I just get 1333 MHz?Laptop supports upto 8 GB as per seller's brochure. There is only one slot. Any help would be greatly appreciated!Cheers.

Here is the Manual: Service manual The Manual actually says if I am reading it right that the Bay Trail models have 2 memory slots. I am skeptical. Does yours have a service cover for the memory? If not, it is going to require motherboard removal to get to it.  It appears that DDR3L-1600 memory is compatible with all versions of this model of laptop although some will downclock to 1333.  The Official HP Part number for an 8 gig module is: 8-GB (PC3L, 12800, 1600-MHz) 693374-001  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

  • Upgrade help for a newbie..please (PSE 3.0 to 7.0)

I have just bought a new computer & am in the process of transferring everything over.  I am now using Vista.
I have been using PSE 3.0 on my old computer, & would like to now upgrade to the newest edition of PSE.  I only used PSE for editing & not photo storage/cataloging.  I still have discs & serial numbers for both PSE 3 & Premier elements(which I never used).  At present I have no photoshop programs (full or trial) loaded on my computer,.
What is the easiest way to get PSE 7.0?  Do I have to install PSE3.0 to have an upgrade? Will it work on Vista?  Also, if I download the upgrade rather than have the box sent out, what am I missing out on.
I'm tempted to go & just buy the full version from a local retailer because It sounds easier, unless someone can tell me otherwise..
    Help/advice would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks.

Buy the upgrade. Install PSE7. That's it.
Note: the upgrade, and the full version, are not different in any way except price.

  • Battery not recognised after ram upgrade - Help!

I just attempted a Ram memory upgrade that worked fine, but my battery stopped being recognised.
The battery was fine before, even so -  I bought a new one (I tested in a different computer - it worked there) - still doesn`t work.
I decided to put back the old RAM - still no working Battery.
Reseted the SMC and the NVRAM 500 times and nothing changes.
Already have the latest Firmware (Efi and SMC) for quite a long time, can`t reinstall it or downgrade it  (due to apple.). Apparently CD firmware restauration not available to my model ( original installation cd don`t work beacuse it is  a previous version of firmware?)
    What else can I do?
Is there any way to force a firmware installation ?

    Run an Apple Hardware Test:

Note an error free AHT is not definitive.
Check the connections on the MBP and the charger for dirt, debris and discoloration.  The pins on the charger are spring loaded and should move freely.

  • Mac Mini Ram Upgrade Help!

    Hey Apple Users
Just bought my first Mac computer about 7 months ago, The minimac. Now this little monster is fast still for only 1gb of ram, and i'm running all high end Adobe softwear that requires 2 gb or more on regular computers, but she started to lag alittle using Adobe Premiere Pro cs4, so i decided to buy 4 gb of ram from ebay(brand New). I got the ram took my mini apart, did everything proper, destaticed myself etc and installed the 2 ram chips. after i went to boot up I got 1 Beep and a light every 10 secs maybe? So first thing i thought the ram was defective, So i tested the ram with my 1 gb in one slot and a 2 gb in the other and she booted fine and showed 3 gb ram. I tested the other 2 gb as well and worked fine. Don't understand why they wouldn't work together. So i said *** i'll just use 3gb instead and have a back up if the other 2 gb fails. Now after 2 hours of using my computer she froze solid, so i restarted and then i got a grey screen, 3 lights/3beeps. This means ram not recongized as far as i'v learned I may be wrong, so now i'm back with just my 1 gb in my comp running fine. Any ideas what could be the problem here?
