RAM upgrade lenovo G510

Hi,
I wanted to upgrade RAM of my lenovo G510.
It is currently having i5 4th Gen 4gb memory.
Can I upgrade it to 12GB (means adding 8GB) in another slot.
If possible, will Transcend JetRam ddr3 (JM1600KSH-8G) compatible?

Second ram stick should be the same type and timings, voltage but diffrent manufacturer should work.I have sharetronic and kingston 4gb ddr3l each working dualchannel fine.

  • G510 RAM Upgrade

Hi All,     Im currently using a Lenovo G510 and am considering upgrading RAM. My system is a Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit) with 4GB RAM factory fit.     My question to someone who's already done this upgrade before... I wish to upgrade RAM from my 4GB to 8GB total but icluding the 4GB factory fit card.      IS IT POSSIBLE for the new 4GB RAM Card (Eg: Kingston) to be compatible with the factory fit 4GB card ?? Will there be any performance issues? Is the factory fit card as good as Kingston / Corsair ? OR should i go for a new 8GB card altogether ?? Also,     1. I believe the Laptop has two slots for RAM... is this correct? Just a confirmation...     2. Which brand RAM card is best compatible to Lenovo? Much Thanks!Take Care.

    hi ElSid,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
First make sure your original 4GB is not made up with two 2GBs.
Next If you Windows OS is a 32 bit Operating system, the maximum will be 4GB. If you'll add more those will go to waste. (You might need to switch to a 64 bit)

Yes,  any thrid party RAM will work, Just make sure that they are Identical in speed and type.

  • Lenovo G40 ~ 70 ram upgrade problem

I bought a lenovo G40 ~ 70 laptop and I wanted to upgrade my ram.It contains 4gb ram and I wanted to upgrade it to 8gb .What type of ram card should I buy and after the upgrade will my computer have problems? thank you.

    Hi Ayato,
    Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are looking for RAM upgrade for your Lenovo G40-70 laptop.
As per the specification of this model , the maximum memory supported by this model is upto 16GB DDR3L 1600Mhz.Hence I would suggest you to look into DDR3L RAM as the RAM slots in the laptop will only support the same. And "L" in DDR3L refers to low voltage.
Click here for the model specification.
Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists.

  • 2 or 4 Ram Slots in Lenovo G510?

    I have bought new Lenovo G510 with i7 , 1TB , 8Gb ram with windows 8.1
In my task manager. It shows i have only consumed 2 slots from 4 slots of RAMS. but when i opened the back cover i only found the 2 slots as i have extra 4 GB ram and thought to insert it.
Can anyone tell me it has 2 slot then why its showing as 4 total slots in task manager.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This is due to Task Manager viewing the chipset that is used in the design of your motherboard.  This same chipset can be used on motherboards that support 4 slots as well.

  • Adding more RAM to Lenovo ThinkPad S430

    Hey guys
I've read the guide on how to add more RAM to my laptop (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=PD024449), but I still got a question.
Do I have to remove the battery before adding the memory, or is it enough to just have the laptop turn off. This is the first time I'm doing this so I want it all to be perfectly safe for my system.
    Cheers.
    Øyvind

there is an option to disconnect the battery within the bios menu, this would allow you to do once off RAM upgrade. It automatically resets the battery to reconnect after you restart the laptop.

  • Lenovo G510

Hi,I Bought Recently a Lenovo G510 (About  Weeks) When I Start Playing Games,The Left Side Of The laptop Become Hot And It Start Blowing Hot Air out Of It.(I Was Playing Call Of Duty 4) .is It A Hardware Failure Or What? Please Help Me

    Hi Thewolverine95,
    Welcome to Lenovo forums
As I understood that you are facing the issue with the system heating when playing game in your Lenovo G510 laptop.
As you have mentioned that the system heats when you are playing game, this is due to the graphics card issue, as the graphics in the game is higher than the system.
As some of the games require high end graphics, if the graphics in the system is lesser than the game the system heats up, try with other games.
Try to upgrade the graphic card and check for the issue. Also try to update the graphic driver and check for the issue.
Hope this helps! Do post us back for further queries.

  • Lenovo G510 BSOD on Windows 7 after installing RST Driver

    Hello,
I was hoping to figure this out without having to post but unfortunately I cannot seem to get around the problem. I purchased my laptop (Lenovo G510) last month and immediately upgraded to a SSD and then downgraded to Windows 7. There have been no problems until I was installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (Link to Driver).
After installing the driver and rebooting I get the BSOD at the main Windows login screen in any of the boot modes (Regular, Safe, Safe with Network, and Safe with Command). The error dump shows that the issue is linked to itaStorF.sys. Normally I would not need this driver installed and I would just use the Windows generic driver but I have decided to replace the ODD with a HDD Caddy with the 1TB HDD that came with the laptop.
I have seen others say that they have used a HDD Caddy with no issues but I get the BSOD error with this driver even before I installed the Caddy. I can install a more up to date driver from Intel but they eject the HDD Caddy when it is detected and they are meant for Windows 8.
I can provide more information if needed as well as error logs. I would greatly appreciate the help from the community! Thanks!
    Quick Computer Info:
    OS: Windows 7 Professional
    SSD: Crucial M550
    HDD: Western Digital WD10JPCX
    HDDCaddy: Link to Caddy page
    Edit:
For some additional information, I have done each of the lenovo diagnostic tests, check disks, and memory tests which all came back as healthy.

The issue seem unrelated to the Instant Client. (Looks like you installed from the "full" Database Client product.)
Anyway, is that Windows 7 64-bit? Then, possibly, the software you installed was 32-bit and the driver shows up in the 32-bit MS ODBC admin tool (in wow64 subsystem, for 32-bit apps).

  • U310 RAM Upgradable? Voided Warranty?

    Hi --
I am a tentative Lenovo buyer and was am set on getting the U310 Ultrabook.  I do notice though that it only has 4 GB of RAM.  I would ideally like to upgrade this upon getting the laptop.  Is this possible?  I have researched it and cannot find any answers for this particular model.  I just do not want to buy the laptop and find out that it does not have an extra slot to upgrade the RAM so I am stuck with 4 gig.  If this is the case, then I may just spring the extra $100 or so and get the U410 Ultrabook.
Secondly, will doing anything like this by myself void the warranty?  I certainly would not like that to happen.
Let me know and if anyone has any advice on the U series; I'm hoping to buy today before this sale is over.
    Thanks!

I just upgraded and wanted to share some notes.  The quick answers are:
     - Yes, opening the case voids the warranty (and needs to be done carefully)
     - Yes, the machine can run 8GB of RAM
     - and (bonus) you can use the mSATA SSD drive as a regular SSD drive--and upgrade it as well
The only potential hiccup is that you may need to flash BIOS version 65CN21WW for the RAM upgrade to work.  Initially my machine would not boot or POST with the 8GB stick.  After flashing this version things went smoothly (aside from needing to re-apply BIOS settings to get Windows 8 to boot again).
    Here's more details:
     - my machine is the non-touch screen i3 based system
     - I used the Crucial memory advisor to locate the 8GB stick of RAM and a 240GB mSATA SSD
     - There are useful YouTube videos showing how to remove the back panel.  Basically you pry off the rubber feet, unscrew the 4 screws you'll find, then (VERY) carefully work your way around the space between the back panel and the silver plastic
    For my dual-boot setup:
     - Fully shutdown Windows (being sure not to use Intel Rapid Start--you want it to be a complete shutdown)
     - In the BIOS disable IRST
     - Switch the drives to AHCI mode in the BIOS (you'll need to reload Windows after doing this)
From there I installed Windows 8.1 to a 250GB partition on the 500GB spindle drive.  Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 went on the entire SSD, with the other 250GB of the spindle drive available for slower-speed storage.  With my increased storage I'll be considering if both OS's should reside on the SSD for performance, with extra storage on the larger drive.

  • Lenovo G510 i7 heating problems

Hi, I bought a Lenovo G510 two weeks ago and two day ago I noticed a sudden temperature rising under my palm while using the qwert keyboard with my left hand. Under my left arm is the ram which gets hot imedialty after starting the Lenovo. I checked it with Speedfan and its says right after booting the ram is 45C. While the ram is getting warmer even during idle modus my hdd is also getting hotter.
Is this normal for the Lenovo g510 or is defect?
    I bought this one : http://www.amazon.de/Lenovo-Notebook-4700MQ-5400RPM-schwarz/dp/B00FQLVHK0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=140...

    Hi Lenovoboi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that your G510 Laptop temperature is automatically increasing. I would suggest you to check using the Laptop on a Flat Surface to make good air ventilation and 45c is a normal temperature and no need to worry also check if there are any Dust/Foreign particles stuck in the air vents. Please let me know the findings.
    Hope to hear back soon

  • Lenovo G510 : power button

Hello !  I have a Lenovo G510 , i5 ,1Thdd , 6gb RAM .    I think was an error with uploading the post .... I ask if someone know if power button have light on this model Lenovo G510 . :-) I put an image to see.... thank you !

Sorry to hear the reset didn't fix the problem.
I doubt the light is driver related since the light is usually illuminated when the laptop first powers up and that would be before the operating system is loaded.
The lights aren't changeable and it is difficult to say why yours has failed.  There is the slight chance it might be actually working, but a piece of debris is blocking the light.  If you have the laptop in a very dark room can you see any faint light around the power button ?

  • Can't Upgrade Lenovo Yoga 11s mSATA SSD

I recently purchased a refurbished Lenovo Yoga 11s from Tiger Direct along with an 8 GB RAM upgrade and a 480 GB Crucial mSATA SSD.  The RAM replacement was easy.  However, I have tried for three weeks to clone, reinstall, or recover my OS installation to the new SSD, and everything has failed.  I’ve done extensive research on this forum and others but can’t find a solution.
The 11s came with Windows 8 on a 128 GB mSATA SSD.  I updated it to 8.1 and installed a bunch of my own apps before attempting the clone.  The 480 GB Crucial SSD definitely works.  I have an external USB enclosure and when it’s inserted it reads just fine on multiple machines.  I disabled Fast Boot and Secure Boot and have experimented with both Legacy and UEFI boot modes.
    Here’s what I’ve tried:
    1. Cloning via Easeus Todo Backup directly through Windows 8.  The clone appeared to be successful but the new drive wouldn’t boot.  I tried boot repair using both a Lenovo and a standard Windows Recovery USB that I made before beginning all of this.  In each case Startup Repair says it can’t find the required partition.  Also, the BIOS doesn’t recognize the new SSD when I have a Recovery USB inserted.
    2. Cloning by booting directly to a Clonezilla Live USB.  Again, the clone appeared successful but after swapping the SSDs the new one wouldn’t boot, and both Recovery USBs wouldn’t work.
    3. Cloning AGAIN by booting directly to Clonezilla Live USB, this time with the new SSD attached to the mobo and the original in the USB enclosure.  In this attempt, Clonezilla only recognized the 128 GB SSD and didn’t recognize the 480 attached to the mobo. (Although I don't think I'd partitioned the new SSD in this attempt, so maybe that would change things?)
    4. Cloning via Paragon’s “Migrate OS”.  I had high hopes for this because others have reported good results.  Again, the clone appears successful but after swapping it won’t boot. And I did check the “create UEFI boot” option on Paragon.
    5. In desperation, I “borrowed” a copy of Windows 8 on a USB to see if I could do a fresh installation, since apparently you can’t just easily reinstall Win8 on an OEM machine.  I’m at the point where I’d pay for a Win8 license just to have my own copy and avoid this OEM nonsense—but I want to be sure it would work on this SSD first.  However, the copy I was using won’t install because it doesn’t recognize the new SSD.  If I put the BIOS into Legacy Boot mode, it will recognize the Win8 USB but not the new mSATA drive.  If I put it into UEFI it recognizes the mSATA drive but won’t recognize the USB.
I’m at my wit’s end here.  Clearly other people have successfully upgraded their 11s machines (like this guy: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Lenovo-Yoga-11s-SSD-and-RAM-Upgrade-Great-Results/td-p/1195545)  Maybe the 11s motherboard won’t accept a 480 GB SSD?  Or maybe it’s just strangely incompatible with this particular model?  (This is what I’m using: http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?imodule=CT480M500SSD3) Is there something else painfully obvious I’m missing?
Please help!  I love this little machine but if I can’t get the SSD upgraded it’s going to find another home.
    -wm
    Moderator note: Crucial link fixed.

That's EXACTLY what it is. I originally bought an ivy bridge 11s and I went ahead and tried the new drive in it and it worked just fine. I have also been posting in another forum...here's my last post: I think I figured it out...  I have another Yoga 11s here beside me, the Ivy Bridge version; the bios in that machine sees the ssd just fine. The difference is the bios versions.  The one that won't see it is 8FCN19WW(V1.00)-the haswell 11s. The one that WILL see it is 77CN19WW(V1.05). So now I'm trying to fig out how to get that V1.00 bios updated to V1.05. That's the only thing I can think of to do. Keep you posted... So, I guess I have to choose between the haswell processor or larger ssd. I can always just switch the gray covers for the orange cause I'm liking the orange WAY better. TBH, I'm not really seeing a big diff between the ivy bridge and haswell anyway...  I only got about 4.5 hrs battery life, which is what I got with the IB. There was also supposed to be a better wireless card but the reception and speed is the same as well. I may just end up keeping the Ivy Bridge because of the better bios. There is absolutely no way to update the bios in either of these machines so we're basically just stuck with what we get. If you DO like the 11s as much as I do, you can always find an Ivy Bridge model and is should work just fine for you. The Micro Center here in town is selling IB refurbs for $499. Probably the same price online. Write more later...
