RAM Upgrade not being recognized, but power is there.

I just upgraded my late 2010 MB Pro to 8gb with an Apple RAM kit off of Amazon made by Kingston. Upon turning on my comp with the upgrade the I could immediately tell the improvement. *Everything* is faster, yet system profiler and my MenuMeters are only, visibly, showing four (4) available GB of RAM.
Is this a matter of resetting the PRAM? The actual RAM from Kingston?
I know this comp was originally built to recognize at least 8gb, just weird that its working yet not showing. Any thoughts?

I haven't re-seated the ram yet, but the sys profiler is reading that BANK 0 is Empty. Thanks! Hopefully that cures the issue. I'll follow-up with results after opening up the laptop.

  • RAM upgrade not being recognized.

So i bought some RAM today, 2 1Gb sticks. They are from PNY and its PC2-5300 DDR2-667/533/400.
I installed them correctly and replugged everything and it comes on but the LED flashes. So i turned it off. To make sure i installed it correctly i removed the new RAM and replaced the old stock ram, and it worked.
So i know im installing it correctly. And im sure i got the right RAM. Is there anything wrong im doing?

Yes, the fact that you're seeing the LED flashing does mean that you have installed it correctly, but check what the flashing LED indicates:

Also check System Profiler in the "Memory" section and also in the "Diagnostics" section to see what is shown.

  • IPod not being recognized but will charge

I have a 5g 30 gb iPod. I recently installed the newest iTunes and updated the software on my iPod. After using it for a day or two I went back to my PC to update and recharge my iPod as I always do. I plugged it in and it would charge but would not update. It isn't recognized by windows or iTunes and I don't even get the "Do not Disconnect" LCD screen. I reset the iPod but can't restore it because it isn't recognized. I have tried to plug it into other computers and gotten the same result. Also, after I charged it fully, the battery meter remains at charged even though I know that the battery is being used. It read charged up until the point where it died, then it gave me the no battery screen. I am very confused and frustrated as I have already had to send this iPod in for maintainance. I am now using it without updating it because I can still charge it and I manage the battery life myself mentally since the battery meter doesn't work either. Any ideas about how to fix or correct the problem would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had this problem until the newest version of iTunes and the newest iPod software, AH!

I recommend that you put it in disk mode and see what happens. If you see the 'ok to disconnect' then you're hosed. This means that the ipod is not recognized AT ALL. It will still charge and you should be able to continue to play the songs existing on your ipod but you'll never be able to add anything else.
This is exactly what happened with mine and it is now out of warranty. Weird that it was almost to the day of the 1 year when this happened as well. Anyway, once it's out of warranty, don't expect anything from Apple other than their recommendation to buy a new one. :]
Hopefully you can get a new and functional ipod back into your possession. I think we need to start a petition or something.
    good luck!

  • Ipod not being recognized but still charging

I've had my 60 gig ipod for about two years now. I tried connecting it the other day to charge and add songs to it when my computer says that the device has "malfunctioned" and cannot be recognized.
I disconnected and tried again but no luck. It still charges,it still plays music, but itunes and windows choose not to recognize it. I tried 4 out of the 5 "r's" because of course i can't restore my ipod without itunes.
I also tried the other ipods I had in my house and they all worked perfectly fine.
Any suggestions as to what i can do?

We're having a similar issue with a 30Gig 5th Gen on Windows XP. The only difference is that the battery was completely dead when initially attached and we didn't get the malfunctioned error. We've tried it on different computers (one with iTunes 7.x and the other with 8.x) with the same results.
Have tried resetting (menu/select) numerous times, as well as going through the diagnostic (both manual and automatic). Can't seem to find anything wrong in the diagnostics.
The device now has a full charge, and still won't be seen by either Windows or iTunes.

  • My iPhone 5c is not being recognized by my mac except to charge it. I'm up to date on all updates and don't know what else to do. I have restarted several times. I have even tried to update my iPhoto and I can't even do that with iPhoto 9.0, but can't.

My Iphone 5c is not being recognized by my Mac computer. I have done all of the upates, restarted several times and I'm not sure what else to do. I have searched and searched and searched and have come up with nothing. Also, my Iphoto can not be updated. I'm still using version 8. something, and it won't update without this update and that update. It needs 9.0 but I can't find that download anywhere. The only one that I can find is 9.1. That won't update. Is there anything that I can do, or should I just bite it and take it to apple to get looked at?

Does iTunes not see the phone?
If not, make sure you're running the current version of iTunes.
If you are running the current version and it still doesn't recognize it, see this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
As for iPhoto, you will have to purchase a newer version. It's not a free upgrade. Or, you can use Image Capture, which is built into OS X, to import the photos.

  • My iPad is not being recognized by the computer, therefore, cannot sync.  It charges when plugged to the wall, but not when pugged to iMac.

My iPad is not being recognized by the computer, therefore, cannot sync.  It charges when plugged to the wall, but not when pugged to iMac.

Most common culprits include the cable. Try swapping it out for a different one.. or not having the most recent version of itunes. I once even solved this problem by shutting down the computer for 2 minutes. (the longer the better), with the ipad plugged in. starting it up... then itunes recognizes it, launches, and syncs.
Apple has a troubleshooting assistant on this topic:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/
It will advise you to reboot. I recommend shutting down instead.

P.S The ipad should charge when asleep and plugged into your Mac. The charging behavior is normal. There isn't enough power out the USB ports to charge the ipad while it is on on some older Macs and nearly all PCs.

  • External LaCie HD not being recognized after 10.5.6 upgrade?

My LaCie HD used for Super Duper backup is not being recognized by OSX. I also use a WD HD for Time Machine backup.
Before I upgraded to 10.5.6 i repaired permissions and backedup to the LaCie. Now when I turn on the drive, OSX does not see the drive.
I now see an icon in Super Duper in both the Source and Target areas called disk image. I have never seen this before. I do not see anything on my imac HD called disk image.
    Any ideas?

Just to let everybody know that P-RAM reset resolved this problem.

  • My iPod is stuck on the Apple logo and won't do anything! It won't turn on, doesn't give me the option to power it off, and to top it all off, it's not being recognized by my computer OR by iTunes when I plug it into my computer.

So yeah...last night I was checking out my iPod (bored at the in-laws) and all of a sudden the screen went blank and the only thing I can get it to do is have the black screen w/ the white apple logo on it. It won't turn on, doesn't give the the option to power down, it won't charge, AND it's NOT being recognized when I plug it into my computer. Not by iTunes OR my computer. I've tried holding down the top button and the home button at the same time...nothing. And since it's not being recognized on my computer, I cannot restart it or go back to factory settings. Someone please help! I've had it for 18 months so the warranty is no longer valid and I don't know how to fix it. THANK YOU in advance!

    - I would try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then see if iTunes will see the iPod.  try both with the iPod not connected to the computer and with it connect. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Next see if placing the the iPod in DFU mode will make it visible

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed any mobile programs associated with my non apple cellphone. This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
    Go to 'Settings'
    'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

I started updating my iPhone 3gs but now it is locked and sim is not being recognized by the set

Sounds like you had the phone hacked to work on a network other than what the phone was originally locked to. When you updated the software on the phone it reverted back to the lock which makes your sim unusable.
