Ram upgrade slower performance

i recently brought lenevo ideapad u410 ultrabook series(4gb ram,500gb HDD + 24gbSSD hard disk, i5 processer).i upgraded ram to 12gb(4*1 + 8*1).when i open my notebook its very very slow in booting( takes 5-10min) and performance is very very slow.
please help me to overcome this problem.
                                           thank you
Regrads, sunil

hi sunilkanth and welcome to the forums.
Can you try the following::
1. Boot into the BIOS by pressing Fn+F2 or F2, when you're in, press F9 to reset BIOS to defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
2. If the problem is still there, try to remove the 4GB RAM that came with the PC and try use only the 8GB RAM that you purchased - this is to isolate if there's a conflicting latency between the two RAM modules.
Let me know your findings.
Cheers.

First go to the RIM web site and look to see if they have an uninstaller for the device you had.  Some times a reinstall of the application and then running the uninstaller is required for complete removal.
If no uninstaller is available, then you will have to use Spotlight to find all items with 'Blackberry' and 'Rim' in the titles.  I would also download EasyFind and use that to locate such files.  Often it will locate items that Spotlight misses.
    Ciao.

  • This is the regular status of the memory of my macbook pro. Do you think I need a RAM upgrade?

    Hi there,
I'm hoping to seek the expert views of the community here.
I have a MacBook Pro, Late 2011, 17 inch. Running latest version of Mavericks. Speed seems to have slowed somewhat, perhaps since I upgraded to Mavericks, but not certain about that. Based on my research of the Apple communities, I suspect that I may benefit from a RAM upgrade.
Attached are a few screen shots to assist:
Based on what I have researched in the community, the fact that I have used 3.99GB of 4.00GB, and have used 5.63GB of Virtual memory, seems to suggest to me that I have well and truly maxed out my RAM. Also there is a high number of read ins/outs (but it had been a wheile since I last did a restart on the MBP (if that has any effect on these numbers here).
I have also read that my model of MacBook Pro is upgradeable to 16GB of RAM (2 x 8GB).
Thoughts and views from the community would be greatly appreciated. Will additional RAM help the speed and performance of my MacBook Pro?
    Many thanks.

More RAM is always a Prudent move...

  • Display problem after RAM Upgrade to MS6712

    Hi there,
after a RAM upgrade (512mb to 3GB) my PC has developed a display problem. The graphics are slow / rippled and video playback is very poor. In device manager no "display adapters" are present and there is also an error mesage referring to the VIA CPU to AGP2/AGP3.0 controller not having enough free resources to run due to a conflisct with VGAsave? I've downloaded the latest VIA chipset drivers to no effect?
System info: MS6712 MB, AMD Athlon 1.25GHZ, XP SP3.0

    OK, here's the info on my PSU;
    It's a Powerman FSP250-60GTU(PF). Input: 230V - 5A, 50Hz. Max Output: 250W
While I had the case open I took out 2 of the RAM modules and without making any other changes everything appeared to work fine with just the 1GB, so I tried putting 1 more back in to take it to 2GB and again all seems fine? Does this indeed point to my PSU then? If so and it works fine with 2GB should I be thankfull for a 512mb to 2GB upgrade and send the 3rd module back to Crucial??
Before I posted this thread I did run a memtest from Memtest86+ with all three modules installed and it came up with NO problems?
Re Henry's post, I searched using the format of the part no on the RAM modules themselves i.e. M368L2923FLN-CB3 and it took me here:
    http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/productListNonflexTable.do?fmly_id=118&sht_id=1
Other info on printed the modules themselves: 1GB DDR PC2700 CL2.5
According to Everest my CPU temp (with 2GB installed) is: 43 degrees (MOBO 30 degrees and HD 42 degrees) - do these seem normal?

  • Do I need a RAM upgrade

    Hi- I've got a PB 1.67GHZ (aluminum) with 1GB RAM (2 512MB chips).
I tend to leave lots of apps open (around 10) for my workflow. I'm always having to jump between apps. None of them are particularly taxing though I do play one game that takes over the system (so I shut down other apps for that). My system definitely gets slower with lots of apps open.
Currently, my Activity Monitor shows page in/out as 307943/213848. I'm thinking that second number is not good and I ought to get some more RAM.
In addition to recommending a RAM upgrade, should I go for just an upgrade to 1.5GB or go for 2GB?

Currently, my Activity Monitor shows page in/out as
307943/213848. I'm thinking that second number is
not good and I ought to get some more RAM.
Your system is memory deprived. The general guideline is that page outs should be 10% or less of page ins. Yours are currently about 69%, meaning for every 10 page ins, your system is paging out roughly 7 pages. A page out is where the system has to move something out of memory to disk to make room for something else, and that impacts performance.
You can upgrade to 1.5gb by installing a 1gb RAM strip, and monitor your page ins/outs and performance/feel. For what you run, that may do it for you. However, if you don't see much improvement, then going to 2gb is available to you.
Recommend Crucial, Kingston (not their valueram line), or Samsung memory, which has proven reliable in our PB's. Crucial can be found at their website http://www.crucial.com , Kingston at http://www.kingston.com , and Samsung is available from a number of companies, of which OWC at http://www.macsales.com is one source.

  • 1.42 GHz iBook G4 w/ 512 MB RAM Upgrade

I have purchased 1 GB RAM to upgrade my iBook G4. What performance enhancements, if any, will be noticeable? What effects will more RAM have?
    Thanks!

When a Mac running Mac OS X needs more RAM memory, not having it available causes some least-recently-used and not-modified RAM pages to be marked "unloaded", and that RAM is re-used for something else. If memory get still tighter, it may cause some parts of RAM to be written to Disk instead of staying in RAM.
The more you are short of RAM and use all the RAM you have allocated, the more stuff goes to Disk. Since Disk Accesses take much longer than real RAM, everything slows down. If you open one big Application, then another, and stay in the second Application exclusively, only your Application-switching time will be impacted.
Activity Monitor has a nice display that can show you how much free RAM (green) is available. It also has a display mode (when you close its main window) where it can show only the pie chart of how RAM is being used in the Activity Monitor Icon in the Dock. You can tell at a glance that your Mac is being slowed down (due to lack of RAM) when only a small area of Green memory is available.

  • Why does my 2012 macbook pro 4gb ram run slow sometimes?

I've purchased my 2012 4gb ram Macbook ram w/ 500 gb hard drive around September. It started off extremely fast the first 4 months (when I had mavericks), but there we're problems with the Video playback towards the last 4 months (It would Freeze and unfreeze & the the audio-video sync would be way off after 30 mins of netflix, which would cause the whole computer to slow down). So, I installed the Yosemite update, which made it even worse to the point where my macbook was unusable. With yosemite, I'd have an average of 500mb ram free memory available, sometimes even lower. Now, I did a manual restore to OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion, and I see the major difference in speed.  I could use safari now & get an average of 1.47 gb of free ram available (with just the safari application open). Now, the video playback issue still occurs sometimes & having about 4 programs open does make the computer slower than usual, but not as often. I'm hoping this is just a ram issue, becuase I'm expecting on upgrading my ram to a 16gb ram or higher while still on Mountain Lion just to be able to run Logic Pro & Adobe Premiere in the near future. If its not a ram issue which is causing this problem on my macbook, I'd be ****** because I'd be spending almost $200 on a ram upgrade and it not resolving this issue would kill me. Could someone help? Ill even take a Diagnose test like Etrecheck if you need me to. Thanks.

  • Can RAM cause slow startup, loss of chime, and forgetting logged account?

Recently the iMac (Mid 2011 10.7.5) at work got the RAM upgraded with 2 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz.
    Things I've noticed:
startup is much slower, with no chime
sometimes requires me to relog into my account when I didn't log out the day before
Apple Hardware Test, long and short says everything is fine
Disk Utility also says everything is fine other than some permissions changed
Ram has increased the ability to use more applications at a time
    Spotlight sometimes doesn't work
    Affects browser some times:
Chrome would load a page and then the stuff would disappear a few seconds after
    Firefox does not do this
    Restarting fixes it
So I'm just wondering if this is just an inconvenience or do I have a serious problem here. Another computer with the same upgrade does not have any start up problems like I do.

Sorry to bother you again, but my computer has shown symptons again. Here is the entire log before I had to restart to "fix" it. Any help is much appreciated.

  • What is the maximum ram upgrade possible on a Mid 2011 iMac 21.5-inch

I have an iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 running OS X 10.9.5 which currently has 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Ram. The Hard Drive has 149.87 GB free out of 499.25 GB. It has been running slow for a while now. I would like to know what is the "TRUE" maximum Ram Upgrade possible. The reason I say "TRUE" is because the specs say one things when I find others saying another. I would like to install the maximum Ram that will increase the speed to its optimum. I have read some information that this particular computer will not take advantage of anything past a certain amount of ram.
So with all that said, I am asking for specific numbers, types of ram, suggestions etc etc...
    Thanks

Here's what you can do and need:
    Maximum Memory
32 GB (Actual) 16 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    4 - 204-pin PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Sources for memory I recommend are:
    OWC
    DataMem

  • U310 RAM Upgradable? Voided Warranty?

    Hi --
I am a tentative Lenovo buyer and was am set on getting the U310 Ultrabook.  I do notice though that it only has 4 GB of RAM.  I would ideally like to upgrade this upon getting the laptop.  Is this possible?  I have researched it and cannot find any answers for this particular model.  I just do not want to buy the laptop and find out that it does not have an extra slot to upgrade the RAM so I am stuck with 4 gig.  If this is the case, then I may just spring the extra $100 or so and get the U410 Ultrabook.
Secondly, will doing anything like this by myself void the warranty?  I certainly would not like that to happen.
Let me know and if anyone has any advice on the U series; I'm hoping to buy today before this sale is over.
    Thanks!

I just upgraded and wanted to share some notes.  The quick answers are:
     - Yes, opening the case voids the warranty (and needs to be done carefully)
     - Yes, the machine can run 8GB of RAM
     - and (bonus) you can use the mSATA SSD drive as a regular SSD drive--and upgrade it as well
The only potential hiccup is that you may need to flash BIOS version 65CN21WW for the RAM upgrade to work.  Initially my machine would not boot or POST with the 8GB stick.  After flashing this version things went smoothly (aside from needing to re-apply BIOS settings to get Windows 8 to boot again).
    Here's more details:
     - my machine is the non-touch screen i3 based system
     - I used the Crucial memory advisor to locate the 8GB stick of RAM and a 240GB mSATA SSD
     - There are useful YouTube videos showing how to remove the back panel.  Basically you pry off the rubber feet, unscrew the 4 screws you'll find, then (VERY) carefully work your way around the space between the back panel and the silver plastic
    For my dual-boot setup:
     - Fully shutdown Windows (being sure not to use Intel Rapid Start--you want it to be a complete shutdown)
     - In the BIOS disable IRST
     - Switch the drives to AHCI mode in the BIOS (you'll need to reload Windows after doing this)
From there I installed Windows 8.1 to a 250GB partition on the 500GB spindle drive.  Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 went on the entire SSD, with the other 250GB of the spindle drive available for slower-speed storage.  With my increased storage I'll be considering if both OS's should reside on the SSD for performance, with extra storage on the larger drive.

Will RAM upgrade on Macbook Air result in a bottleneck?
Hi I am planning to buy a Macbook Air with the base configuration, but was giving the RAM some thought. I was thinking of upgrading it from 4 GB 1600 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM to 8 GB. With the student discount the upgrade will cost me an additional $90. I will be going to uni for life sci and will be be using it for work assignments, music, and maybe some small-time gaming. I currently don't really game much but maybe sometime in the future I may decide to play games such as LoL or Warcraft maybe?  What I was wondering was that is it actually necessary to upgrade the RAM to be able to play these types of games without lag? I am fine with a little bit of low fps, as long as it isn't to noticable and stil fairly smooth. Maybe with like safari with music and a word processor and the game open, would the MBA be able to handle it effectively? Also, would the RAM upgrade be ineffective because of a "bottleneck" where the other specs limit the effectiveness of the increase in RAM?  The rest of the specs are: 1.4 GHz dual-core Intel i5, Turbo Boost upto 2.7 GHz Intel HD Graphics 5000 128 GB PCle-based flash storage  So overall, is it worth it? Will it make gaming significantly better, and more importantly, will 4 GB just be enough too?  Thank you very much for reading that very long question! All answers will be appreciated!

Did you get a reply on that site?
    Are you comparing 11-inch/13-inch MacBook/Air to 13"-15" MB/Pro?
A better idea would be to get the MacBook/Pro, since it has a better
processor and a higher RAM spec capacity, when or if upgraded.
More RAM will not be a bottleneck; a slow CPU processor & too much
demand could. Including video demand, and gaming is unlikely, too.
    Check the specs at the Apple Store to compare MB/Pro w/ MB/Air;
even the basic MacBook Pro 13-inch without Retina has a fair CPU
and OK specs for most things; and you may be able to still upgrade
the RAM in that basic model (also has optical drive built-in) yourself.
See everymac.com and mactracker.ca for sources of specifications.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Basic RAM upgrade question

    Hi,
I've read a lot of threads on ram upgrades, but still have a very basic question. I want to buy the $599 Mac Mini, which comes with 1G RAM. Clearly, the Mac RAM is overpriced, but I've been told by a friend to upgrade to at least 2G for $50 extra. I realize Crucial and others sell it cheaper, but I don't know about my ability to put it in.
Is it worth another $100 to go from 2G to 4G. Will I see a noticeable performance increase if I'm using iMovie, Photoshop or Final Cut Express? Or surfing? Are we talking about a few extra seconds when rendering video but no other noticeable effects? I plan to keep this machine for our family machine now that my child is using iWeb.
I'm sorry if this has been answered, but I'm on a very tight budget and worried about my job in this economy. Thanks for your help.

If you are on a tight budget and have any concern about on-going warranty support for a new mini, then it is a better proposition to buy the $50 upgrade to 2Gb from Apple than to do the RAM upgrade yourself and go to 4Gb for little more. It's not that the upgrade is particularly difficult because it isn't, but if you are not reasonably confident in your skills and something goes wrong, Apple could declare the warranty void due to the work you've done on the inside of the system.
There is a notable performance gain to be had from 4Gb as opposed to 2Gb, but much of the difference is less than obvious, particularly if you are careful about what apps you have running at any time. Running Photoshop, for example, would cause the system to slow down if you then launch another major app such as iMovie, but running it alone in 2Gb RAM would give you respectable performance. Final Cut Express isn't particularly demanding on the system so should run well, as would the vast majority of Intel-native applications. It's only if you are running any non-native processes (applications, drivers etc) that 2Gb would prove notably limiting.
If it were me, I'd probably opt for the base model, buy 4Gb RAM from Crucial and do the upgrade myself. Next choice would be the base model, buy the RAM from Crucial and have a local Apple Approved Service Provider do the work for me - some AASPs charge a reasonable fee for this. Third choice would be to buy the base model with Apple-supplied 2Gb RAM and then at a later time replace that with 4Gb from Crucial as and when funds and circumstances reasonably permit it.

  • Does my Macbook Pro need a RAM upgrade?

Hi. I own a Late 2011 MBP and its been acting a little slow lately. its not really slow, but the booting does take longer than before. and applications take a little more time to open for the first time than before. since i need to run quite a bit of heavy applications for my college use, i need to make sure it stands up for it.
i just need to know if its time for a RAM upgrade for my MBP? Will it really make a difference?
Also will it support an 8+8 GB RAM upgrade, or should i go for a 4+4 GB RAM upgrade instead?
is it possible if i can do it by myself? or will need to go to a store?
And just to confirm, I'm getting like a 5hr battery backup on this pc. is it normal or lesser than usual?
    Current Specs:
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.4

Ram may not be the problem.  Look at this article for possible solutions:

    Not necessarily.
Also will it support an 8+8 GB RAM upgrade, or should i go for a 4+4 GB RAM upgrade instead?
It will support both configurations.  How often do you exceed 4 GB of RAM usage.  Ram not used is RAM wasted.  16 GB might be necessary.  What are the most resource hungry applications that you use?
is it possible if i can do it by myself? or will need to go to a store?
User installation is easy.  No need for the store to do it.  Look in your users manual for instructions.
    Ciao.

  • Ram upgrade to 2GB - fan running faster

I have just upgraded my intel mac mini from 512 MB to 2 GB using a kingston upgrade kit (KTA-MB667K2/2G).
The system is performing a lot better but there is an annoying "trouble": when 2 GB are installed the fan is running more fast and more often then with 512MB.
During my tests, I have see that while using OS X the system is able to regulate the speed, it goes from very slow to very fast but it moves to fast more often then before and the system is definetly making more noise.
The bigger problem happens when booting using windows XP: when 2 GB of RAM are installed the fan is always running at top speed or near to top speed.
That is not happening while using the original 512 MB.
I have tried to reset the SMC by using the apple istructions here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
but it didn't make any difference.
I have double checked all wires,I have switched from 512MB to 2 GB and from 2 GB to 512MB three times(!) but nothing has changed:
    - when using 512MB fan runs slow;
    - when using 2 GB fan is still able to change speed but is running fast more often.
Further more, to test, I have also left disconnected the fan speed cable in the front side, and in such way the fun starts at max speed and runs at fast speed all the time. So it is not a trouble with such connection.
    Is that normal this behavior?
Does anybody have noticed any fan speed difference after RAM upgrade?
About BootCamp and XP running fan at max speed, could be that reinstall them could solve the "always on" fan trouble with 2 GB?
Thanks a lot for any help.

I have some updates about the problem.
I was thinking that it was a my fault about some missing setup needed when installing more ram to mac mini.
So, today, I have moved to a local apple center and I have asked them to install the RAM for me... they do, and it happens the same thing: the fun was running very fast quite often under OS X and was always fast under bootcamp-XP.
I have asked them why this happens and if that was normal, but they have no other mac mini with such amount of ram and they never see it before. They suggest me to test it for a week and eventually to give them the mac for a day to make some hardware tests.
Later, back into my office, the noise was too high and too annoying so I have called again apple to explain the situation.
They told me that they have no reports about similar problems, that it should not make more noise when adding RAM. They suggest me to try remove and reinstall better the RAMs or to try different RAMs (I am using kingston kit KTA-MB667K2/2G).
So I have also phoned to kingston support, and they say that it is a strange bahavior, that they don't have reports about that too. They are now investigating the problem and they let me know something in next days.
They also put to my attention the fact that the computer is able to see and work well with the 2GB memory, so the memory is working correctly. They think this is something related to apple hardware/firmware and could be that apple should fix it in next realases.
Unfortunatly, all this new infos and all the time lost for a "simple" memory upgrade didn't solve my troubles and I still cannot use the mac like I need.
So I have continued my tests by changing the kensington Dimms with other 2 GB dimms by Nanya technologies that were installed on my centrino duo notebook.
Mac mini was able to see and work well with them too, now the fun speed is a little bit slowly then using kingston ones but still more fast than with 512MB.
Bootcamp-XP is still not usable due to high fan speed and the high noise. OS X seems to control better the fan speed but it goes high there too for any little thing you do.
So I have made one more test suggested by kingston:
I have started mac mini while only one kingston dimm were inside.
In this way the mac mini was making some less noise that using the two nanya dimms, but it was still to high.
The last test I made was to check the cpu temperature with different amounts of RAM and results were interesting.
Using OS X with 512MB, the cpu temperature is about 33 C while iddle; if I try to start parallels desktop with guest windows XP, temperature goes up to 40 C and the fan is still running at quite low levels.
Instead, while 1 GB of RAM was installed, cpu iddle temperature was 35 C and starting parallels desktop will result in temperature levels till 50 C.
So there was a difference of about 10 C.
While doing these test I have left the mac mini open, so once stopped, I was able to quickly feel the RAM temperature with my finger and it was quite hot.
I didn't try temperature with both 2GB dimms, but I belive it will be surely more high.
So what I am thinking now is that probably apple is aware about higher temperature inside when using more RAM, so the bios starts the mac mini with the fun running faster because it detects the 2 GB memory.
OS X is able to control someway the fun so it is not always running fast (but quite often) while using boot camp with XP becomes impossible due to the fan always at max speed.
I don't think apple's rams could work at lower temperature than kingston ones, so the dubt now is that things are correct in this way.. so intel mac mini with 1/2GB could be a shame due to high level of fan noise... or... my mac mini has something wrong.
Is anybody here with a mac mini and 2 GB of RAM?
Anybody could make some test about that?
Thanks a lot for any help

  • Maximum RAM upgrade for Mac Mini mid-2010?

    Hi,
I have a Mac Mini mid-2010 (Model 4.1).   I purchased it with 4 Gb RAM, and I am now considering a RAM upgrade.
I currently am running OS 10.95 - and not particularly happy with the sluggish performance that has been the hallmark of my 'upgrade' to Mavericks on this machine. I figure that increasing RAM can only help what has become a sometimes teeth-gnashingly slow computer.
In any case, the Apple tech specs document says that the maximum RAM for this machine is 8 Gb.  However, the macmemory.com web page for this model Mac Mini says it can handle 16 Gb so long as the OS is 10.7 or greater.
Is this true?  Anyone tried this?
    Thanks,
    HJ
