  • I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade, but not to Mountain Lion.

I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade, but not to Mountain Lion. How do I upgrade to Leopard or snow leopard?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • New computer, trying to re-install cs2 upgrade but not allowing me to select disc to upgrade from

So I've had ps for years and have bought multiple upgrades since ps5.  I have all the discs etc....I have recently bought a new pc and have tried to reinstall my cs2.  It of course asks for the proof of original purchase by putting in the original ps5 disc.  Once I do, it will not allow me to select a file from the disc to use as proof.  Heck, not even sure of which file to select if I could, but I remember the last time I installed it on my previous computer, it automatically detected it and allowed me to proceed.  I have seen a few things about 64-bit, windows 7 and even mention of a DVD-rom drive.  Can someone please tell me it is possible to install this on my computer?!   If I have to buy another upgrade I'm going to puke!
    Thanks!!
"Isn't the price of technology supposed to go down over time??"

Thanks for the replys.  Here are the screens that I am getting.  The first screen is fine....I enter the CS2 serial number and then go to the second screen.   Here is where it asks for proof of upgrade from v5.0 or later.  I have the original 5.0 disc and I put that in.  Then I select browse.  The third screen pops and no matter what I select, the OK button never becomes usable.  It is always grayed out.
Now, I have tried to install 5.0 to my computer but can't get past the Install select screen as seen in sceenshot 4.  It won't recognize the exe for some reason.  I also tried copying everything to a folder on my harddrive and installing it from there but same thing, it won't get past the install select screen.
it does sound like something to do with the optical drive but not sure what to do..
    Thanks for the help!!!

  • HT201541 10.1 logic pro x free upgrade but not for me ?

    hi
    have logic pro x
and it seems there is now a new upgrade , 10.1 .
i have no link for this upgrade , which does seem like a blessing at the moment as there seems to be many bugs that need fixing .
but still concerned i do not have the link all the same .
anyone else having this problem .
    thank you in advance

Then in that case, do this..
Go to the Purchase tab in the Mac App Store
Check that you see Logic pro X listed there.
if you don't then you are not probably signed into the Mac App Store using the same Apple ID you used to purchase Logic Pro X in which case go to the menu bar, Store > Sign out and then sign in again using the correct Apple ID
    Once you see it there....
Go to your Applications folder and Delete the Logic Pro X app...
    Restart your Mac
Now go to the Mac Apple Store app > Purchase tab and click on the download/install button to the far right of the Logic Pro X entry there...  and it will download  and install the latest version v10.1of Logic Pro X to your applications folder for free.

  • New iMac: 4GB RAM upgrade does not boot

I have a new 24" 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme iMac. Bought the Crucial 4GB kit. Installed both sticks, but the iMac would not boot. I heard the hard drive spinning, but it would not boot. I removed a stick from the first slot ("first" from left to right looking at the screen), and inserted the 1GB oem stick. It booted fine. I thought I had a DOA 2GB stick, so I returned it to Crucial. Got my new replacement memory and tried again. Still would not boot. Switched slots. Same problem. Replaced the OEM 1GB in the first slot again, it it booted fine. I tried every configuration, and the only thing that works is the 1GB OEM in the first slot and one 2GB Crucial stick in the second slot. I cannot get 4GB of RAM to work. Any suggestions?

With the orginal 1GB and a 2GB module installed are you seeing all 3GB in "Apple / About This Mac" and Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor?
Resetting the PRAM can solve certain startup problems.
Try installing the 2x2GB kit and restart the Mac immediately press Command-option-P-R and hold the keys down until the Mac chimes a second time. This resets the information in the Mac’s parameter RAM (PRAM) to its default values. The PRAM is a special area of RAM where data is retained even after you shut down the Mac.

  • MacBook White Built-in iSight Camera stuck on after 10.7.3 upgrade but not producing video

I upgraded today the OS of my iMac and MacBook from Lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.3. The iMac is fine but the MacBook is always having the iSight camera on (light is constantly green.) But no video is produced in Skype, FaceTime, and iChat. I rebooted several times with no results. The green light is always on. Any advise to solve this issue is greatly appreciated.

I updated three Macs to 10.7.3 with no trouble.  I credit ALWAYS using the Combo Update for my reliable updates:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
If you have trouble later, try applying the Combo version.  Even if you are already using the same version, the Combo may fix your problem.
Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions before updating and again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.

  • Iphone 3GS upgrade but not all the way

I know i can upgrade my iphone 3gs (currently running 3.1.3) all the way to 6.1...
But can I just upgrade part way to 5.1.1?
My friends upgraded theirs recently from 5.1.1 to 6.1 and all they do is complain. 5.1.1 is nice and I would like to upgrade just part way.
    Thanks

No. It isn't possible to update a device other than a third generation iPod touch or original iPad only to 5.1.1, and it's only possible for those devices because they're incapable of iOS 6.

  • Upgrading but not installing Flash with MSI

I have an environment of some 600 PCs running XP. A few have Flash installed, most do not. Those that have Flash installed are a variety of versions.
It's my intent to perform a Flash install using MSI and GPO, and that's (mostly) tested and working.
However, I don't want to install Flash anywhere it isn't already. The systems that do have Flash installed are effectively random across the organization, not matching up in any way to GPO.Doing that I want to use the MSI, so I can have it automatically install to the machine.
Is there a way to install/upgrade Flash only on those systems that already have Flash installed, and not install it elsewhere?
    Thanks

I don't know how to do that, although it sounds like a very good idea.
Have you seen the new 10.1 Admin Guide if it contains any suggestions: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/flash_player_admin_guide.html ?
You will probably need to write some sort of script to test for a current FP installation before you proceed with the update.

  • Trying to reinstall apps on ipad after ios upgrade but not downloading.

Just upgraded both my ipad 1 and iphone 4 to iOs 5 and both had all the apps deleted after the upgrade. I'm manually reinstalling the apps but while the apps download and install fine on my iphone they are hung up in the "waiting" mode on my ipad.  Checked and the ipad is connected to the internet since I can surf the web still on the ipad.  Anyone else having issues like this?

Change to the correct store this way.
    Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Apple ID
    Tap your ID
    Tap View Apple ID
    Enter your password
Go to country/region in the popup window to change the store.
Or swipe down to he bottom of the App Store in the featured tab and tap on your Apple ID. Sign out of your ID and then sign in again and see if that changes the store for you.

  • RAM recognised but not utilised

I have been scanning the web all week but havent found a soulution that will help. Here goes...
I received my MacPro last week. and everything is running very smoothly. Leopard is very good apart from a few glitches. But...eveything is too good. My issue is regaring memory. Even when Im running intense applications such as Final Cut Studio, the total RAM that is ever used never exceeds 1-1.3GB. I process video and run other application but nothing. I have 5GB in my system and am sure it should be using more for a specific application. The virtual memory though is up to 1GB per application. I can use all the memory if I open 50 applications but I thought Final Cut needed minimum of 2GB, according to the specs page (I have x2 1GB Kinston in Riser A+B, and x2 512MB Apple in Riser A). I dont understand what I may be doing wrong.
Why is my free memory so high???? Somebody please help because evrybody elses problem is that the apps uoveruse memory but mine is the opposite....my head hurts

Thanks for everyones responses. I think I just have to get used to the fact that the MacPro Tower is more efficient at everything compared to my powerbook G4.
Hatter, the Apple rep informed me that I need to install my RAM in pairs. I thought I did so basing it on what I had read all around. The Apple person told me that in fact no, I need to have all the pairs tha same. Will it be better for me to take out the two 51MB Apple modules and just have the x4 Kingston ones in there? Or should I install four more 1GB modules so everything will be nice and even with 8GB? Will things be more symmetrical with 4 or 8GB (I notice you have 6GB) Which is best to maximise quad channel memory.
    Thanks again everyone (Apple too)

  • Power Mac RAM Upgrade - Why not faster?

I just upgraded my Power Mac G5 Dual 2.0 from 1GB to 3GB with Crucial memory. The computer booted up fine and seems to be working perfectly. The system recognizes the full 3GB. Problem is, I cannot tell the difference in speed, either by "seat of the pants" or by benchmark tests. XBench tested almost exactly the same either way (in fact, it was 1/2 point slower with the 3GB). I also compressed a 2-minute movie from iMovieHD into a Quicktime file. It took the same amount of time with either configuration.
Any thoughts? Is there a different comparison test I should try?
    Thanks.

    Hi
If you have sufficient memory for what you're doing, additional RAM will make little or no difference. You could try using Activity Monitor located in the Applications->Utilities folder to see how much memory is actually being used at any one time. The following document contains more info:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107918
Artificial benchmarks probably won't detect any differences, as the memory footprint of the tests is probably minimal. Likewise movie compression is probably limited by the speed of the processors and/or hard drive more than it is by the amount of memory available.
You should be able to detect a difference when running several memory hungry applications at the same time and switching between them though. The boot up time may be slightly slower with more RAM as a POST (power on self test) is performed.

  • Why is the ios6 compatible for all the iphones but not all the phones got the all upgrades, for example the panorama camera??

why is the ios6 compatible for all the iphones but not all the phones got the all upgrades, for example the panorama camera?? this is another reason I am starting to dislike apple. An ipod is able to us an upgrade but not all the phones are? makes sense

"why is the ios6 compatible for all the iphones"
Ios 6 is not available for all iphones. Original Iphone and iphone 3 are not supported.
"but not all the phones got the all upgrades, "
This is common for most any device/computer.  Not all iphone/computer/device models can handle all of the new features.  Like any device, hardware is limited and cannot always support all new features and software.

  • Basic RAM upgrade question

    Hi,
I've read a lot of threads on ram upgrades, but still have a very basic question. I want to buy the $599 Mac Mini, which comes with 1G RAM. Clearly, the Mac RAM is overpriced, but I've been told by a friend to upgrade to at least 2G for $50 extra. I realize Crucial and others sell it cheaper, but I don't know about my ability to put it in.
Is it worth another $100 to go from 2G to 4G. Will I see a noticeable performance increase if I'm using iMovie, Photoshop or Final Cut Express? Or surfing? Are we talking about a few extra seconds when rendering video but no other noticeable effects? I plan to keep this machine for our family machine now that my child is using iWeb.
I'm sorry if this has been answered, but I'm on a very tight budget and worried about my job in this economy. Thanks for your help.

If you are on a tight budget and have any concern about on-going warranty support for a new mini, then it is a better proposition to buy the $50 upgrade to 2Gb from Apple than to do the RAM upgrade yourself and go to 4Gb for little more. It's not that the upgrade is particularly difficult because it isn't, but if you are not reasonably confident in your skills and something goes wrong, Apple could declare the warranty void due to the work you've done on the inside of the system.
There is a notable performance gain to be had from 4Gb as opposed to 2Gb, but much of the difference is less than obvious, particularly if you are careful about what apps you have running at any time. Running Photoshop, for example, would cause the system to slow down if you then launch another major app such as iMovie, but running it alone in 2Gb RAM would give you respectable performance. Final Cut Express isn't particularly demanding on the system so should run well, as would the vast majority of Intel-native applications. It's only if you are running any non-native processes (applications, drivers etc) that 2Gb would prove notably limiting.
If it were me, I'd probably opt for the base model, buy 4Gb RAM from Crucial and do the upgrade myself. Next choice would be the base model, buy the RAM from Crucial and have a local Apple Approved Service Provider do the work for me - some AASPs charge a reasonable fee for this. Third choice would be to buy the base model with Apple-supplied 2Gb RAM and then at a later time replace that with 4Gb from Crucial as and when funds and circumstances reasonably permit it.

  • Imac 32GB ram upgrade

My imac is a 27" mid 2011 model, 3.1Ghz intel core i5 with 4GB stock ram. I use programs like Adobe Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, illustrator, Lightroom4 (pretty much everything on the Adobe Master Suite Collection CS6), Ableton Live, Protools etc. I understand that it IS possible to MAX out at 32GB of RAM.
My question is... Has anyone on here upgraded to 32GB of RAM on the imac? Any problems or glitches? i really want to upgrade but not sure if i should do 16GB or 32GB? Can you see any difference between 16GB and 32GB?
    Thanks in advance,
    Moe

Hi Moe, it can indeed hold 32GB...
    Standard RAM:
    4 GB
    Maximum RAM:
    32 GB*
    Details:
By default, 4 GB of RAM is installed as two 2 GB SO-DIMM modules. Two slots free. *Officially, this model supports four 4 GB modules -- one in each slot for a maximum of 16 GB of memory. However, third-parties have discovered that it actually will support 32 GB of memory using four 8 GB modules. In the US (and many other countries), site sponsor Other World Computing sells memory -- as well as other upgrades -- for this iMac. In Canada, site sponsor The Mac Market sells memory and other upgrades for this iMac. In Australia, site sponsor RamCity sells memory and other upgrades for this iMac.  Also see: Actual Max RAM of All G3 & Later Macs.

In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?
