Rambeling Question...LR folders on Mac to LR on PC?

LR running on my Mac.
Ext. LaCie HD back-up
I am documenting the construction site of building. And I manage the job-site images (12k+) in a folder I have created in LR. On my Mac.
I am planning to get a MacBook and run Parallels so I can have LR on Windows. Then slowly transfer the images from my original Mac to the Windows side of the MacBook.
Basically I have to give them an ext HD at the end so they can plug it into a PC running LR and then they can see all the folders I have created of the job-site.
Am I going about this the correct way?
I know I should have put these images on LR (Windows) from the start.
I appreciate the help! Sorry if this is confusing.

I believe there is an easier way. Use a PC-formatted external hard drive. The Mac should still be able to read it. Move the LR catalog and images to it by dragging the folder from your Mac to the external drive. Then LR on your Mac and on their PC should be able to open the catalog and view the images. Try it to verify things of course. Good luck!

I have Yahoo mail provider but just lost my folders in Mac Mail program. The folders were not "On my Mac" but on "Yahoo". How do I get them back again? I have reinstalled MacMail as everything had disappeared. The new install has given me everything except the Yahoo folders. When I looked one of the folders had reappeared, but now it has gone again. I am using Yosemite.
Desperate to find those folders with so much data involved.

Thanks for that babowa. If I add my Yahoo account it just goes straight to MacMail and says I already have an account. There seems to be no basic problem with mails going between Macmail and Yahoo. It is just the folders that have disappeared, while MacMail was out of action. I don't think those particular folders were ever on the Yahoo mail that I access through BT, they were just on the MacMail under "Yahoo" as opposed to "On my Mac". I am worried in case I lose what I already have if I press "Restore" from my back up. As you can see, I am not exactly good at this!

  • Folder with question mark and smiling mac face at start up

After I was importing some video today, shut down G5 and on start up I get the folder with question mark and smiling mac face.
    Any help?
    Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Boot from a drive with Disk Warrior 4, or your emergency boot drive (FW or alternate) or if you lack that, use single user mode to run fsck command. The last option would be your Tiger DVD but that may be 10.4.3 or earlier and not your best.
I say that because it seems like it was more than just needing to reset the startup disk preference and may have a corrupt directory. It shutdown smoothly and fully?
At the least, using the OPTION key and SHIFT key for Safe Boot. My recollection of trying to do both is that it won't. You can do one or the other, but not both. So running FSCK is just insurance to repair the directory.

  • Empty import folder when importing Mac Mail 6.5 folders to Mac Mail 4.5

When importing Mac Mail version 6.5 folders into Mac Mail version 4.5 the resulting import folder is completely empty.  The import process happens instantaneously and no error occurs.  Does anyone know if 6.5 is not backwards compatible with 4.5?

That's almost as ludicrous as the reason I'm trying to import new mail into an older version.  At least I know now to quit trying.  Thanks for the answer.

  • Change location of Special Folders in Mac OS X 10.5

    Hello,
I want to change the location of some of the Special Folders in Mac OS X 10.5. I am specially interested in changing the location of Documents, Images, Music, Videos and Downloads. In Mac OS X 10.4 it was easy to move at least all the special folders to other location or other hard drive. But in 10.5 i dont know how to do this. I would prefer to move those folders and not all the users folders.
I want to do this because i am using PC and Mac. I get my first Mac 3 month ago. And i am trying to get my documents in sync between PC and Mac, so i would like to use the same floder structure and location in PC and Mac.
I would appreciate a lot all the help you could give me. Thank you for your time,
    Marcelo.

You do it in Leopard the same way as in Tiger. Copy the folder to another location. Delete the original. Create an alias to the new location and place it in the old location.

  • Show all shared folders on Mac?

I have a Windows PC. It has lots of shared folders. Suppose the name of the PC is "WinPC1". If I use a Windows laptop, I could easily see all shared folders by typing "\\WinPC1" in the address bar.
Now, I am using a Mac. I know I can add specific folders by adding the server as "smb://WinPC1/<individual folder name>", but it cannot map the root "smb://WinPC1". Suppose there are 100 shared folders, then I would have 100 mounted folders on Mac.
Is there any way to map the root folder, like in Windows PC? I mean I only want a mounted folder for the "smb://WinPC1", not "smb://WinPC1/docs", "smb://WinPC1/musics",... and so on.

    G'day,
    There are two issues here:
    1) Browsing the shares available on a server (i.e. looking at the list of folders)
    2) Connecting to a share (i.e. mounting the sharepoint).
I think what you are trying to do is 1).
You should be able to use Finder to browse any available server (without mounting the individual shares) by connecting on the PC name in the SHARED section of the sidebar.
Does the PC show up in the Finder sidebar?  Does this help?

  • My samsung external HD does not show its folders on MAC. Does somebody can help me?

My Samsung external hd does not show its folders on MAC. It runs sometimes at Windows systems. I hadl already tried to configure to show hidden folders, but it does not solve my problem.

    Thank you for responding.
This might sound stupid since i'm not really knowledgeable with Macs,
but since all my files were moved from my mac computer to the external hard drive,
is it possible to recover those files through my Mac - like recovering deleted files?

There are two standard protocols for receiving email, POP and IMAP. In the POP (Post Office Protocol) when messages are "read" by your email client (Mail) they are downloaded and stored on the reading computer and deleted from the POP server. When you are using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) the messages remain on the IMAP server until they are deleted. IMAP was created for exactly the situation you are trying to achieve. For example Apple's iCloud (formerly me.com, formerly mac.com) uses IMAP protocol. So whether I access my email on my Mac, my iPhone, my iPad, or via webmail I have access to all the files in all the various mailboxes automatically because they are all seeing and using the same online mailboxes. If I delete a message on any of the varioius devices it is deleted on all of the various devices.
Whether you can use IMAP protocol or not depends on your email host and whether they have an IMAP server or not. Many ISPs do not offer IMAP because they do not want to bear the expense of the additional disk space required to store the IMAP messages. As I mentioned before Apple's free email service is by default IMAP. Google Mail offers a somewhat non-standard IMAP service. It works with Apple's email client, Mail, but it is just a bit "different".
Personally I resisted using IMAP for years. Largely because I had always used POP and was comfortable with it. Once I got an iPhone and needed to synch my email between my computer and iPhone I realized IMAP was "the only way to go."

  • Want Folders in Mac Mail on Mac Mail Web, Too.

I use my folders in Mac Mail as storage places. I'd like those folders to be in my Mac Mail on the Web, too, so I can access those folders when I'm not at my home computer. Do I sync? Or how do I make that transfer?
    Thanks!

For what type of mail account (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? If POP, there is no way to do what you want. If IMAP or .Mac, Mail Help’s “Creating a mailbox” article explains how to create server-stored mailboxes instead of locally stored ”On My Mac” mailboxes.
BTW, if you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as your profile indicates, it would have been more appropriate to discuss this in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum. If the discussion applies to both Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, it doesn’t really matter, but it’s difficult to know that in advance.

What can I do to boot?

Restart with the Option key held down.
If the internal drive shows up, it's the PRAM battery.
If it doesn't, insert a compatible Mac OS 9 or X install disk, click the button with the circular arrow, and either repair the internal drive or install a new OS on it. If it doesn't show up in Disk First Aid(9) or the Disk Utility(X), it's either not plugged in or needs to be replaced.

    Have a great day...

If you mean restoring OS X, that won't necessarily have any effect on speed.
Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow your Mac down.
Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.

No need for the WLAN router with AirPort Time Capsule.
