Ramdon flicker 23'
Hi,
I have just got a brand new 23' Apple Cinema display working with me new mac pro. About two days in to it's use the top half of the screen has started to flicker at random times and for no set time. I have got all the power cables as far away as I can get them from the input lead but this has not helped.
Anyone got any ideas what I might try next?
Also whats Apple's policy on replacing the screen if it's faulty.
I might add that I've used the same 23" monitor with both a stationary PC, and the LG laptop using a VillageTronic VTBook DD, so it's really not a Windows problem (I think).
Also - both PC notebooks use ATI graphics cards, the T43 an ATI X300, the LG an X600. Could this really be a driver problem? Any ideas welcome.

Mid-2010 Macbook Pro Screen Flicker Pixel Seizure
Not sure how else to describe the problem, but I hope the title helps!
I have a mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro. I noticed in the last month or so, my screen would flicker. But not the entire screen. Just certain areas, like the pixels would jump/lag, as if it it would jump to the correct position. I don't know what's the word for it: glitter, pixel, flicker, seizure. I mean, that what it looks like. It actually hurts my eyes.
I don't know what could be the problem or if anyone knows what's going on. It's just certain pixels (random on the screen, but usually right in the middle) that get "stuck" and half a second later, jump. Not sure what the proper word is, but if anyone could identify it, that'll be great.
Safari, Chrome, and Word are the applications I use, and I've seen it all three programs. It's becoming a lot more noticeable and frequent now, especially if I switch programs or if I'm loading a new page.
The MBP is a tank, but I've been considering buying a new MacBook, preferably the Air, until this MBP kicks it, so if anyone has estimation on its shelf life, that'll be great (My 2005 Powerbook G4 barely made it through 4 years!). The warranty on the MBP just expired last year.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate any insight on the issue.Curiously, I don't have that option. It only gives me the option to disable Automatic graphics switching where it should give the better battery life or higher performance options. Do I have something disabled that gets rid of that option? It's the same under the Battery or Power Adapter options.
I'm going to take it to a genius but I'm wondering from reading other forums that maybe one of my RAM slots is bad. I want to have a play but will the genius know if I've opened it up and then possibly refuse it? If it is bad RAM then I can fix that myself without having to travel 70 miles to my nearest Apple Store. Is there a seal that I would break that would give away the fact that I've opened it up?

Mini-DVI to VGA flicker with Snow Leopard and 2nd monitor
I have a 24" iMac (fall 2007) and recently purchased a 26" Vizio (VMM26F10I) and connected it as a 2bd monitor for my iMac using the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter Apple sells.
The new monitor will flicker now and then and some times will go to no signal. I have to change resolutions to something else and then back to standard setting to get it to come back or unplug adapter and plug back in.
Is there a fix for this?26" VGA...? Which resolution/frequency? Have you tried a fresh cable with clean connectors, etc....
What did Vizio say when you contacted them with this question about your new purchase? -
Radeon 9600TX + Xorg 1.6.1.901: Disturbing Flicker
Hi! I try to setup a Radeon 9600 TX (R300 Chip) with Xorg 1.6.1.901 and xf86-video-ati. I want to use 2D + 3D acceleration. This is a new system setup using XFCE. (I intend to add compiz later.)
Acceleration for 3D is present + ok. Window resizing is rather choppy but acceptable. But I see a disturbing flicker when logged into X, as if waves were running down the screen horizontally. This is very inconvenient and hurts the eyes after a short time. Also the font in the VCs is not displayed in sharp edges but I do not know if this is interrelated (or erroneous).
I would like to keep the xorg.conf minimal. Since the DDC/EDID data that shows up in the log is correct, I did not add any ModeLines or mode setup. The log shows that xorg makes all decisions right (how it seems to me).
There are loads of posts about ati issues but I did not find anything that helped me solving my problem. Perhaps someone can help? Thanks in advance.

In three horizontal areas in the screen, the display was very fuzzy. So I had to decide whether use 60Hz mode with the flicker problem or use 75 Hz mode with the fuzzyness problem.
I tried the first alternative by ignoring the EDID data and force the display mode but I didn't succeed with solving the fuzzyness problem. So I decided to go back to 60 Hz mode and try to solve the flicker problem. (I already tried 'Option "Flicker" "false" - no effect!) I have no more ideas.

Hi everyone,
I just have my new Ipad4 last January 27, I noticed that while downloading a certain Apps in App Store then scrolling to look for more application, my screen would flicker like flashing or something blinking on it. I don't know what happened, why is it like that? Is it somewhat connected with hardware problem or does Ios 6 version still have a bug? I've tried using safari and other video downloader like vdownloader and I tried searching in youtube, still the same dilemma, it flicker also while browsing some video. Is it hardware problem? I already reset and restore my IPAD thou its a new one still the same dilemma happened again. What should I do? It was a gift for me and I'm really worried about it. SmoothGraphMarkers=True does not stop Graph Cursor Flicker
I have a xy graph where the cursor labels flicker every time the graph is updated. I have tried setting the smoothGraphMarkers=True
switch in the Labview.ini file but it does not make any difference. I have the smoothupdates graph attribute set to true and have experimented with disabling graphic card acceleration. Nothing seems to help. I have been told that this started to happen when we recompiled the application from LV8.0 to LV8.2. BTW, there are not any graph property nodes in the loop that could be causing a refresh. Thanks.sachsm,
Are you also setting the Cursor.Allow Drag property of each cursor to FALSE? This can done by either using a property node or by right clicking on the cursor and unchecking Attributes»Allow Drag.
Without this setting cursors are redrawn at every update just in case they have been moved. By disabling the ability to move them along with the other settings you have already mentioned LabVIEW is able to render the cursors as part of the background bitmap and then update the screen all at once.

Mac mini display is flicking via HDMI to DVI adapter and DVI cable
i have received mac mini server (mid 2011) recently. mac mini is connecting the display via HDMI port using DVI cable with a HDMI to DVI adapter.
the display shows constant flicking. white dots/lines show randomly. it is like those signal noise when watching analog TV.
the same display works fine and well with macbook pro (early 2008) via DVI port.
please help. please advise.So you know the display is working.
It seems to me you have a few possible problems.
1 HDMI-DVI cable is bad
2 DVI-cable is bad
3 Connections between cables or computer or monitor are bad.
4 HDMI port on the computer is bad.
I assume you've tried #3, and re-connected cables and wiggled inputs. So then try replacing 1 and then replacing 2 which are cheaper fixes than replacing/fixing 4.........
FYI, I'm connect my mac mini using the same setup you describe, with no issues....also inspect the cable ends carefully to look for any problems.

13" MacBook Pro - Screen Flicker / Windows 7 Bootcamp
I have a 13" MackBook Pro with Retina display that I purchased last December (8 months old). I am running Windows 7 in Bootcamp and the last few months the screen flickers on occasion (becoming more frequent). I launched the Mac OS to ensure I have the latest updates and I believe I do (nothing new to install within the Mac OS). Majority of the time I'm hooked up to an external monitor / lid is closed, but obviously that is a challenge when traveling.
I did do some searches and see other posts around screen flicker issues, but those appear to be on the Mac OS side. What is odd about my scenario is that it only seems to appear on the Windows 7 side. I can't seem to find a fix for this / really would hate to have to reload the machine.Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my brand new 15" MBP right now.
The only problem I'm having is the USB controller issue that is reported in the following thread:

I ran the Boot Camp assistant, made the partition, rebooted with my 7 DVD, formatted the partition, performed a clean installation, & then installed the drivers from the OSX DVD when Windows booted the first time.
Replaced the NVIDIA drivers with the latest Verde release. 258.96notebook_winvista_win7_64bit_internationalwhql.exe
Everything seems to be running just fine at this point.

Mbp 15 external display via mini display to hdmi flicker
wondering why my mbp 15 to samsung 22" led monitor via minidisplay to hdmi give me flickers, whereas if i connected to my samsung 37" lcd tv no flicker at all. right now i had to connect to my monitor using minidisplay to vga to avoid the flicker.
While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t run Lion. There's a Lion Support Community where everybody has Lion. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. 13" MacBook Pro - Black flicker in Windows 7 x86 (BootCamp)
Hello everybody,
I just bought a new MacBook Pro 13" (late 2011 model). Because I study mechanical engineering, I had to install Win 7 x86 for using some of the programs we need.
What I noticed is that I get ocasional black flickering on the screen, for instance when I want to enter a web adrees in mozilla or when I resize a window. The flicker stays there and it doesn't go away untlil I resize the window again or go through all the options shown in the suggestion menu. Recently the Intel display driver also crashed.
Does anyone know what that could be? It's really annoying, I'm starting to regret I bought an apple product...

MiniDisplay to VGA adapter YouTube HD Flicker
Hi,
I've recently got the Apple MiniDisplay port to VGA adapter for my mid-2010 Macbook Pro (2.4GHz i5, 4GB RAM, nVidia GT330M with switching), and have it hooked up to a relatively old Samsung SyncMaster 2223NW widescreen LCD monitor. I'm running the laptop side by side with the monitor (not in clamshell). For the most part this works great, though I have noticed the CPU and the GPU Diode run at least 10 degrees warmer than they would when just using it as a laptop. The problem comes in when watching HD (720p or 1080p) video on YouTube. During playback it seems to cause strange black lines/artifacts which flicker all over the screen. Standard Def video is fine, only happens with HD content. I don't know whether this is an indication that the GPU is overworked (though the temperature seems to be within normal limits) or something to do with the analogue VGA connection or the adapter itself. Anyone know what's causing this?

The display used to flicker, now it's completely white! PLease HELP!
So, my display used to flicker with horizontal lines all over it, and slightly adjusting the angle of opening would fix this, but about a week ago it lightened a few times, then got stuck being really light with the desktop being barely visible, though better from way down angle (if you open it all the way out) and looking like a negative from the way up angle. I restarted it, and the problem persisted. I shut it down for a day, and, upon startup, the screen is now completely white with nothing visible on it. I had connected the PB to my tv using the s-video out jack on the back and I can see the desktop clearly on it, but it's extremely difficult to read any text, largely due to my tv being big and not hi-def. So far I had tried fixing or diagnosing it by switching resolutions and calibration in the "display" area of System prefs and also in universal access "seeing" tab, I've reset the PMU and still nothing. Here's what's going on: if I start visualizer on the iTunes, both the TV and the stock display flicker to black, then the TV does the visualizer thingy and the display goes back to white. The apple logo backlight is on no problem at all times as well. The laptop was never dropped, handled roughly or subjected to extreme temps. The flickering problem had first appeared when I had relized that I only had about a minute for the battery to go completely empty (my 'puter is almost 3 years old). The recall for the displays covers laptops manufactured about 2 months after mine, otherwise all the symtoms listed in the recall match. Does anyone know what I should do next? I had read about getting a new LCD inverter, but at the same time I am now unemployed and really have no dough.... I'm a sound engineer, and I need my PB to be mobile. The only thing that had happened recently is that I installed the newer version of Pro Tools on my machine, LE 6.9. Please HELP!
PB G4 Ti Mac OS X (10.3.9)You might have to restore the pictures from your ""backup" you have on iCloud. But, then again, that would put your iPhone back to the last state it was in when doing that backup. But at least you would have all your pictures back.
iin any case, I wouldn't do any further backups or any changes to your iCloud account, until you've got your pictures back again. Proceed cautiously and carefully at this point, until you get an answer that will safely restore the pictures. -

I have a 2008 24" iMac, running on 10.5.8.
I want to describe the whole issue. The only thing that changed in my routine and made it crash was that I bought a new Apple keyboard, with a wire this time, before I was using a bluetooth one, and a new wireless Logitech mouse. After I successfuly connected both, while browsing in Safari, the computer totally lagged. All I could do was to manually restart it. When I started it again, it said that the "ruby" application has quited unnexpectedly. After clicking ignore, I observed that the icons on desktop haven't loaded, the menu bar is constantly reopening itself, I can't right click, if I try to open Sistem Preferences that is as far as it will allow me to go, if I click anything else than, it closes system Pref. and leaves me again with this flicking menu bar, which of course I can't even click and an empty desktop. I couldn't see if the problem is only related to my user, as there is only 1 user on it. I tried to create a new one, but I get the problem mentioned above.
I try to see here on the forum if other people have had the same problem, but what I got was minor cases, they can still use finder or an app, everytime I open something, it dies and I only can restart the poor thing
I hope I don't have to delete all my info on my drive, that would be a big problem for me.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

I recently upgraded to FCP7 from FCP6. I am now having an issue in playback with all video transitions. When I add a transition to my video it does not consistently play smoothly. I now appears to have an old "film" like flicker rolling through the effect. Our video was shot on a dslr and brought into FCP with compressor as a prores 422 file. We use magic bullet for our coloring effects which are in place on this video. When I was working on the project in FCP6 I did not have this problem. When the project was complete we upgraded to FCP7. The client has now come back to us wanting additional footage. So I opened the old project up into FCP7 and checked yes to all format updates to meet with FCP7 guidelines. So far this is the only problem I've encountered. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For me it looks like conflict with field order (upper, lower - interlaced).
Please, check Your sequence settings, maybe it should be set to "field order NONE" if Your source is progressive.
Next thing You could check:
in Your timeline with bad transitions look into "Effecs tab" - maybe FCP 7 added "shift field filter +/-1" after opening FCP 6 project.
In general - try to keep sequence settings same as source settings. -
Why do I get Flicker on screen with Linux Standalone Flash Player ?

I have a problem with the standalone Linux Flash player. The thing is that when I have a video playing in background and over it I make some tweens, it flickers all the time and it is an annoying flicker. It happens only on Linux Flash Player (it works on Windows Flash Player). The flicker appears when I have a video on background, only when the tween is made and on the portion of the screen where the tween is made. I have Ubuntu 9.04 installed and the latest version of standalone Flash Player (from 2/24/09). I've tried this on several LCD and on all it does the same. My video card has the Intel G31 Express Chipset (the drivers for the video card are the one from Ubuntu). I have generated the swf file from Flash CS3. Any help would be appreciated.
