Ran out of ideas regarding my freeze problem.

I've had my iMac for about a year and a half now and it was going absolutely great, but about 10 days ago, it started freezing a whole lot like within 10 minutes that I turn it on, it just gets to the spinning wheel and nothing happens, I have to do a manual shut down.
Also, when I boot my computer I very often get the question mark folder, or it just sticks to the blue or grey screen and I need to restart it one more time.
I did a disk utility for my hard drive with no problems showing, the repairs told me nothing needed repairs.
I also did the hardware test with the Mac OS X Installation cd by pressing D and again it said there was nothing wrong.
I tried to reset the PRAM, didn't do anything else.
I actually even ended up formating my entire hard drive... twice. Yet it is still freezing,
I'm running out of ideas here, so thats why I'm posting this

I have 2 problems with the same Ipod.
The Ipod is an older model, monocolor screen, a click wheel. The ipod is currently formatted in Windows.
Now here's my problem, whenever I try to play a song it automatically skips it. The song title, and everything else comes up but the play timer stays at 0:00 and it just skips it, and then skips the next one, and the next one, and so on.
So, I tried everything i maunlly could to it and nothing worked. So then I decided to just plug it into my MacBook and restore it, and re-format it to Mac instead of Windows. But here is the second problem: Whenever I plug it in to my notebook, the ipod says "do not disconnect, and it comes up on my desktop, and then itunes pops up like it found the new device, but it doesn't show the ipod.
I have tried two things:
1. I ran the "software update"
2. I have updated Itunes to 7.1.1
Also, I ran the program alterPOD and even that found the program. But when I attempt to use the iSYNC it can't locate the ipod.
I have seriously ran out of ideas for both of the problems.

Out of ideas diagnosing VPN connection problems

I'm having trouble narrowing down what's causing the VPN connection problems to my new Mini Server. Sometimes I can connect just fine with my MacBookPro and use all the resources like file sharing, etc. So, this leads me to believe it has been setup correctly. But then, for no reason at all (maybe it's later in the same day, or a completely different day) it will just stop working and I cannot connect at all.
*MacBook and iMac at home cannot connect, but iPhone can*
This is what's really throwing me off. This afternoon, I cannot connect to the server from home with my MacBook or my iMac. BUT, my iPhone can -using the same WiFi network my computers are on, not the cellular network. How could that be? The VPN settings on all 3 devices match exactly.
*Colleagues with other ISP's can connect, while I cannot*
I've called Comcast business (which provides the static IP for our office server) and they tell me all my settings are correct for allowing VPN traffic through. Likewise, Comcast Residential tells me there is nothing that would block VPN traffic from my home. They tell me to talk with Apple. argh!
*Web and Server Admin services are still accessible when VPN is not working*
We have exposed the Server's Web and Admin services without needing a VPN connection to access them. Since these services are accessible to me even when the VPN is not working, this leads me to believe the server is operating normally and capable of receiving incoming traffic.
I'm out of ideas and I'm starting to lose my mind!!! Any ideas on why my 2 computers sometimes can connect, yet sometimes cannot...all the while, my iPhone can connect just fine over the same network???

I don't have an explanation for the erratic nature of your connections. It's only as I've said before, in my experiences with such problems it has always traced back to misconfigured network or DNS settings. mDNS is multicast DNS and it's a protocol Apple uses so its devices can find each other easily. That may be the reason why your iPhone can connect when other things can't.
To take a step back, here is how I think things should be set up:
\- Your dedicated IP address should be assigned to your router automatically through PPPoE
\- The name servers as set in your router should be your ISP's name servers
\- Make sure the server has only one connection to the router that is managing the dedicated IP, either wired or wireless, but not both
\- A static network address should be assigned to your server's MAC address in the router's DHCP settings
\- The server's network address should be put in the DMZ on the router or set as the default server in the NAT settings, depending on the router
\- The network settings in System Preferences on the server should be set to DHCP with manual address and the server's network address entered correctly
\- The router address should be listed correctly in the network settings in System Preferences on the server
\- The name servers in the network settings in System Preferences on the server should be 127.0.0.1 and the router's IP address, nothing else.
\- The zone files on the server should have a primary and reverse zone for each domain name and its network address. Do not use the dedicated IP address in the zone files on the server.
If everything is set as I described, it should work. If it doesn't, it's time to call a witch doctor or an exorcist.

We have a small client with only 2 computers in the office. One of them is a "main PC" hosting shares and being accessed by the second PC. This main computer loses network connectivity in a very weird way, resulting "no internet on it" and the second PC can't access the shares anymore.1) opening ANY web site fails but if I open Chrome and start typing a search in the address bar and hit enter, then google shows me the results.
2) as soon as I choose one of the results the page fails to load.3) google.ca(com) fails too.4) the second computer can access internet but cannot access the "main PC".5) This issue never happens during the day. There are other methodologies of scanning a HD
which involve data extraction, but loss of metadata is often the result if the directory is corrupt.
Metadata is the info on what the data IS.
Like having all your papers thrown in the air, its all there, but just a giant mess.
This is why you always always must have several external HD redundancies of your data. One isnt enough, neither is two really.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

Ever since my iphoto library crashed (ran out of space without warning) my mcbook pro has been slow, unresponsive, freezes in sleep mode and won't restart...
I've since backed everything up on an external hard drive, removed the corrupt library, even reinstalled the operating software and there is now hardly anything on the hard drive, it still runs painfully slow. If I close the lid which puts it in sleep mode, it either doesn't go into sleep mode but instead the battery just gets drained and I find it completely empty of power (it won't start again unless plugged in), or it goes into sleep mode but just freezes when I try to reopen.
In iphoto (reinstalled) but even other applications it is painfully slow, not like a mac at all!
I am trying to go to genius bar with it but thinking maybe someone in this forum can help...

I selected any icon and it's not responding except Siri telling me what it is. Nothing is happening. I cannot even move to next screen. I cannot use my phone totally. I need help. I turned off and on and not working.

Weird problem out of ideas

Hello I had a teacher send me a link from cbs to view one of
the shows for class and she said she couldn't view it. I checked it
from the office, worked fine. Checked it on her desktop w/XP pro on
it, and it would show the picture of the video but just went to
replay or embed the video wouldn't actually play. Weird thing is
that the sound was still working throughout the video. Figured I
could fix it but ended up stumping me and almost imaged it but
figured I would look for the answer first. Here is some of the
things I did to troubleshoot. In IE7 I cleared all the system
files, uninstalled re-installed flash no result so reset IE back to
manufacturer settings reinstalled flash. Next I tried firefox
installed flash same thing, Uninstalled both Firefox and IE deleted
all application data, temp files, reinstalled IE w/flash nothing.
Next I turned firewall off, disabled AV, uninstalled real player
which teacher installed, uninstalled flash and shockwave, created
new windows user, disabled video acceleration, installed IE7 flash
shockwave added adobe.com to trusted zones, cranked up cookie limit
to unlimited, and nothing. So I installed Firefox beta 3 and Opera
with same result the flash video just skips to replay or embed. I
could go to the flash test site and it checked out fine. I am out
of ideas so if you have one I would like to hear it. Thanks

I managed to get flash player 9 working on firefox only. I
uninstalled flash player entirely, restarted the computer,
installed flash player 8, then immediately installed flash player 9
without unistalling flash player 8.I did this on Firefox, but when
I tried it on the Windows XP SP3(I use verizon.net), NO flash. I
would prefer to use only one browser, but this is the only way I
can get it to work. Suggestions to make it work on IE/Windows
XP/SP3?

Macbook Pro (15" mid 2012) system freezing problems

I've had quite an ordeal with my Macbook Pro over the last few years, so this will be a lengthy question, sorry in advance. Let me get right to it.
Backstory:
I bought my MBP 15" new in summer of 2012. I installed 8GB ram that I had laying around. A week or so later I was playing a game (Borderlands) and my computer froze and I was forced to do a hard reset. From then on the computer started completely freezing more and more consistently, and not just with games, but while I was on the internet and in other programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere. and I was forced to do hard restarts often.
I upgraded to Mountain Lion when it came out, and the problem persisted. The freezing got to the point where the screen would pixelate and get full of artifacts and blocks of glitchy colors while the sound started looping and popping until I did the hard restart. I took the computer into the apple store and they ran some tests and told me that the 8GB of ram I had put in was the wrong speed for my computer, but that as long as I changed it I shouldn't have any problems. I went home, changed my ram back to the original ram that came with my computer, and lo and behold, it got worse. it started to freeze on startup and I would have to try multiple times before it would start up, sometimes it would give me the three beeps, so I knew it was a memory problem. So I bought 16GB of the correct type of ram (1600mhz instead of the 1333mhz) and the problem seemed to stop for a few weeks. Then it started again, slow at first and then in waves where it would freeze multiple times in a row and then not at all for days or even weeks. So i took the ram out and cleaned it, thinking that it might be the ram slots acting up or a bad connection, that wasn't it. I took it back into the store to be tested, but they couldn't reproduce the freezing I had, which is just my luck..soon after that my warranty ran out, so I was on my own. I started to just deal with it because it started happening less often. Finally at the end of this summer I reinstalled OS X Mavericks because I read somewhere that someone was having a similar problem and that fixed it. I did a clean reinstall and it started running great. I started reinstalling the main programs I use (Adobe CS6, Steam, a few games, firefox, VLC, ZBrush) and it was still working fine. I played Borderlands 1 on it and it froze the entire computer soon after I started playing. I thought that might just be because that game is a port and I bought it through the Appstore. So I took it easy and the computer did well. Then I started playing Borderlands 2 (on the lowest settings to be safe) and the computer worked great, even though I played for 3 or 4 hours at a time. I thought all was well now. That was until I came back to school and then last night my computer started freezing again. It is not as bad as before, and I've only been able to reproduce it consistently while playing Borderlands 2, but it bothers me that my computer is not solid, even if it doesn't freeze doing most other things.
If I thought it would be fine if I stopped playing games on it, then I would stop and be fine with that, but I think the problem is bigger than that, and that is why I am asking for help.
What I've Tried So Far (in order, kind of):
1. Changed the ram to 8GB 1333mhz - computer started freezing after that
2. Took it to the Apple store to get it checked out - they told me it was the ram
3. I changed the ram back to 4GB 1600mhz - froze worse than before
4. Bought and put in 16GB 1600mhz - ran fine for a time, then started again
5. Took it back to the Apple store - Didn't reproduce the results
6. Uninstalled all games - didn't change anything
7. Reinstalled OS X Mavericks - Ran fine for a little while, now freezing during games again.
8. Ran Apple Hardware Test multiple times during all this, it would start and then freeze around 8 minutes in.
9. Booted in Internet Recovery mode - froze every time and gives me error code -3404D now, which I can't find any information about online.
10. Ran MemTest through Rember multiple times. Before reinstalling OS X it froze every time, now my ram passes every time.
11. Checked Activity Monitor, and ran EtreCheck - I'll post the results below, but everything seems normal to me.
12. Checked memory usage while playing Borderlands 2 (windowed, lowest settings still) the game was using about 1GB of ram, then my computer froze after playing for about 2 minutes.
13. Also I've taken my ram out and cleaned everything, including fans multiple times throughout this ordeal. My computer would get pretty hot at one point, and I thought it was overheating and maybe disconnecting some solder, so I used to turn it on its side and put a fan on it to cool it down and it would finally restart, but that was before reinstalling OS X and it hasn't been getting that hot recently.

MBP 15" Weird Freezing Problems.

This is a rather odd and detailed problem. So I will outline as much as I possibly can. Hopefully someone has seen this before.
I currently have a 15" Macbook Pro. 2.16 GHz CPU, stock 1GB RAM and stock 120 GB hard drive. I have been running Tiger fine for at least one year on this machine. However I discovered a problem and it is very bothersome.
I recently purchased the Leopard upgrade disks. When I boot up on the Leopard installation disk, my machine freezes. It will boot to the point where it shows the "Welcome to OSX" screen, and you pick your language. Then after five seconds the machine will freeze hard. The only way to restart the machine is to hold the power button for 10 seconds.
Out of curiosity I pulled out my Tiger install disks. They boot, but do not get this far even. The grey screen with the Apple logo appears, and the spinny thing freezes up. And the only way to reboot is to power cycle (10 second hold).
It is important to note that the machine freezes in this identical spot each and every time.
I figured it might be related to my internal DVD drive. Hooked up two separate DVD drives, one firewire and one USB. Exact same results.
I ran the Apple hardware tests repeatedly. They always report that hardware is good.
I borrowed install media from a friend, both Tiger and Leopard installers fail in the same place as my media does.
Also borrowed my friends MBP, identical hardware configuration. Put my machine in Target firewire mode. And installed Leopard from his machine onto my HD. When I reboot my machine, after 5 seconds it will freeze on the Leopard login screen.
I thought it might be RAM. So I swapped my friends RAM into my machine. Freezes in the same place each and every time.
So I'm at a loss. Has anyone ever seen such routine freezes when trying to install Leopard?
I have zapped PRAM/NVRAM. And tried everything else I could think of. Any other ideas would be appreciated!!

I'm having the same issue--it looks like a tearing or smearing of lines of text, mainly in Safari, though I have seen it in Mail. I haven't noticed it related to running on AC or battery, but it may be...I had an older MacBook Pro (core duo) running 10.5.2 that was fine and recently upgraded to a 2.4 Core 2 Duo and this problem has popped up.
This issue looks suspiciously like a problem I was having on a Mac Pro with the ATI1900 card--it was brushed off for ages as a "heat problem" or the like with the card, and then miraculously after months of waiting a firmware update came out that completely cleared up the problem...

My graphics drivers are up to date. I've not installed any third party items for PS.
I've uninstalled, used clean script, reinstalled several times. ran the repair license (multiple times), changed flexnet licensing from manual to auto and back again during the many tries of repairing. Rolled back the date as Adobe mentions. Rebooted many times. Checked my fonts against the 'trouble list' though none have been installed in weeks. Deleted the preferences. Long list of things I have tried.
I'm out of ideas. Computer is about 6 weeks old. I installed it with no issues then. Program worked a few weeks. Yesterday I tried opening it and it crashes immediately. It opens enough that I can see the main screens then the error comes up. The only message is "adobe photoshop CS4 has stopped working" " A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program......" No details are provided as to the issue. The only option is to close. I rebooted in safe mode and got the code of 148.3.
