Random album art downloads?

Well iTunes has finally stopped working its way through all my stuff and has only found artwork for perhaps 1/3 of it. This would be ok if my files were obscure or badly tagged, but this is not the case.
For example:
Artist = TV On the Radio
Album = Return to Cookie Mountain
Genre = Rock
This is a recent album release (this week infact) and is on iTunes. It is named exactly the same as my version. Artwork however will not download.
any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. I've tried changing the name of the album, artist, everything and then add it back in but nothing seems to work for some albums. The frustrating thing is if you click the arrow icon to take you to the Music Store page it finds things just fine. For example clicking the icon for,
Artist = Built to Spill
Album = Perfect from Now On
Goes right to the album's page. Where is the disconnect here?

  • Why is my album art downloading to the wrong music?

When I am syncing my iPhone, I am getting an error (-54) at times. I am also seeing the wrong album art downloading with the incorrect music. Whenever I use a song for my alarm, I see music that I do not have checked to be on my phone showing up and it always has the wrong album art. Please advise. Thank you so much!

The only way I was able to get the album art correct was to hook my iPod up to my laptop and then go into iPod Preferences and check the box that says hide Album art. I then updated my iPod and all my album art was wiped off my iPod. The next step is to go back into preferences for the iPod and enable album art again and the next time I updated...BINGO, all my artwork was put back correctly. It took a little work but I'm happy with it!

  • BEST Album Art Downloader

Can someone please recommend the BEST FREE album art download program for PC running XP Pro? If you've only tried one, please don't respond - how will you know it's the best if you never tried any others?
I tried the one at this link:
    http://louhi.kempele.fi/~skyostil/projects/albumart/
and it gets the art fine, but doesn't automagically import it into iTunes. Seems like iTunes requires that the art be embedded in the music files somehow. This just places the art in the music folder, then you have to drag it into iTunes. Kind of a pain.
    Thanks.

    Hi Alec
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I've found Clutter very useful for getting artwork. But then again, I usually get the artwork when I'm importing the album, not a long time afterwards.

  • IPod displays random album art that I've never added or downloaded

I've noticed sometimes that album art on my iPod would be missing or displaying art from another album or track in my library but what I noticed today is really confusing me.
I've noticed a couple of albums so far are displaying weird images that I've never downloaded or added to iTunes. They aren't from another album, track or podcast. One is of the Golden Girls posing with their Emmys! How did this random artwork get applied to tracks on my iPod? The artwork is perfectly fine in iTunes and the thumbnails in the iPod's list view tend to be correct as well. It only shows up when I play the track or album.
No one has been using my iPod, plus I have a passcode on it. It seems like a restore is in order but I'm just curious to know if others have had this problem and know the cause.

I'm not running iOS 5 but it could be related to iTunes. The artwork seems to be completely out of the blue but I'm still seeing regular artwork being mixed up from album to album. The other weird images I don't recognize could possibly be from chapters in some podcasts that I never noticed before, I suppose.
A full restore of the iPod is likely the only solution to this fix I would guess.

  • Album art download spotty at best, what best 3rd party tool works well?

I have hundreds of Gb of music and probably 40% of that - no cover art.  Running this feature in iTunes does nothing - comes up telling me I have over 5,000 album art covers not able tgo be downloaded.  Tried various other 3rd party tools, not that many work well.
Can anyone recommend one that works well?   I'm not sure why this feature works so unreliably.  I can find most of these albums on Amazon and can apply the art manually.    It should use some kind of fuzzy logic to guestimate the darn title and bring it down I would think.
    Thanks

  • Album art downloaded by iTunes shows in iPod, not iPod Library in iTunes

I had iTunes add artwork to the songs in iTunes. The art shows up in the "Selected Item" windows when I click on one of the songs in the iTunes Library.
I added those songs to the iPod. When the iPod plays one of those songs, the artwork shows up fine.
When the iPod is connected to the computer and I click on one of the songs in the iPod Library, the art does not display in the "Selected Item" window, even though I know it has album art. This makes it difficult for me to know which albums I need to add artwork for!
If I add artwork manually, the art shows in "Selected Item" whether the song is on the iPod or in the iTunes Library.
Has anyone encountered this? I have "display album art" checked for the iPod.
    Thanks!
    Christian

    Hi,
It's the same with me. It appears that only manually added artwork displays. Songs with downloaded artwork show a blank in iTunes when I play them from the iPod, although on the iPod itself the artwork shows.
This has to do with the fact that downloaded artwork is not embedded in the mp3-files, in contrary to manually added artwork.
What you could try is to embed downloaded artwork yourself (wait for a rainy sunday afternoon though). Use this program to extract downloaded artwork from your iTunes libray: http://sourceforge.net/projects/iaae/

  • Random Album Art

For some reason, now whenever I play tracks on my iPod, the album art just displays random album covers from other albums rather than the one that is actually being played. I've tried deleting all of the tracks and re-syncing, and I can't figure out how to fix this.

Sometimes the album art gets scrambled on the iPod. Uncheck the option to have artwork on iPOd, sync, recheck the artwork option, sync again. This will take a long time as it has to edit every track each time.

  • Mixed up album art in iPhone's iPod

When viewing albums in Coverflow the album art is all correct. However whenever I flip the phone around some random album art is shown in place of the correct one.
Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas? I am working on re-syncing my music (which takes forever by the way) to see if that fixes it.

Although this discussion is a bit old I think it's still worth answering it as google points to this page.
The only reason for the above to happen (Different cover art appearing in horizontal and vertical) I can think of is that Iphone Cover Flow is an Album Art only.
iPhone and iTunes has at least two modes to display your music in that is:
    * Song mode - where tune's art is pulled from the file if any exists.
    * Album mode - where album art is shared by multiple tunes with the same "ALBUM NAME".
So if many of the songs has no ALBUM NAME at all or share something like Unknown etc. It's is likely that in Cover Flow Mode (Which is Album View) those will have some strange things displayed.
On the other hand I currently have slightly different problem hence my search. My Art is mixed up especially among the podcasts. Totally... I'll try full resync.
BTW. If you got the Art in one way or another but after uploading the tunes to iPhone you don't see it it's likely that you downloaded Art only for one of them and iTunes is showing that one for all that share the album name. If you get the art from iTunes Store then Highlight all tunes that should contain the art and right-click>Get Album Artwork, otherwise Get Info and double-click on the Artwork field on the right-hand side.

  • Album art keeps dissapearing

    Hello there,
random album art would keep dissapearing. It used to happen to one or two songs a every 2 weeks or so, however now its an epidemic. I am pretty meticulous in uploading the correct and hi-res album art, so It is annoying to keep having to repaste it in the info section. With the rate this is happening now though, I just gave up.
I am running the latest iTunes on windows 8.1 (I think the dissapearances started ramping up after the upgrade) .
I also have "fetch album art online" checked off.
    Anybody else having these problems?

    Hello,
I face a similar problem, since the new albums are not coming on my ipod with the immustrations or album covers.
Or the album artwork is not the correct one ... (see my topic: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23686941#23686941)
    a peak for Apple ...
I erase all the data on my ipod, and re download with itunes all albums : it is worth since there is no illustration any more ! No album cover ...
Good luck ! If you have a solution, I would like to share it with you.
    Kind regards

  • Elusive Album Art

    Hello,
I recently made it a project to find and in some cases add my own album artwork for the entire list of music in my iTunes library (I have no life I know). In iTunes every track has a piece of album artwork to accompany it. On my iPod however there are about 20 albums whose artwork is just black. It isn't the grey music note that shows there is no album art downloaded but just a black square. I'm not sure why it is doing this because you can see the images perfectly fine in iTunes.
For Example: the song "Like a Stone" on the "Audioslave" album by Audioslave displays a black square on my ipod rather than the true album cover.
I am also finding that a few albums have the grey note as an image when in iTunes they have an actual picture. The albums with a grey note are weird because usually one or two of the songs on that album display the artwork when being played while the others do not and show the grey music note.
For Example: the album "Who's Next" by The Who.
Behind Blue Eyes - displays downloaded album art
Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again - displays grey music note
In the Coverflow view a grey note is displayed for the above album.
Any help would be excellent. Thanks.

    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.
*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exisits in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant jpeg images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the abum, use CTRL-I or Option-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size.

  • IPod won't sync purchased songs or show album art

I purchased a brand new 80 gig iPod yesterday, and I'm having slight problems with it. When I plugged it in, it told me that my iPod software was too old and couldn't transfer some of my songs (which ended up being the songs I downloaded from the store over the past several years). I checked to see if about an update, but the iPod menu says the software is up to date. I'm wondering if there is a setting I need to fix. Interestingly, it says my iPod is formated for Windows, but I'm using a Mac and did not have a choice between a Mac or PC. If this is an issue, can someone help me format it for Mac?
Also, it's a slight issue, but even with album art downloaded from online store, none will show up on my iPod. Why is this, and how do I fix it?

    Hi.
Follow these instructions. If no luck then please post back.

  • When I preview a song in iTunes, the album art preview shows up blurry

So anytime I preview a song in iTunes store, whenever I click on the small album art icon (at the top) to bring up the smaller player, the album art shows up blurry.
Has been happening for the past three or four iTunes releases. How can I fix it?
When I purchase the song, the album art downloads just fine though. Funny thing is, if I preview a different song from the same album, the album art loads fine. Not sure whats going on.

Make sure that these two options in Edit > Preferences > Store are turned off:
Then exit iTunes and open it up again.  Your metadata entries should then be persistent - with these options checked iTunes will be comparing what you have with the information held in the iTunes Store, and will overwrite with the latter for Store purchases (and if you have iTunes Match).  If you have any iOS devices you should also turn off Show All Music under Settings > Music.

  • Serious Album Art Question!

    here is the situation,
for the songs i have purchased it works perfectly,
however, for other songs that i have that i have applied album art too, even though when i select it in the iTunes the album art is the same for the whole album, for other albums it seems to pick other random album art for about 75% of the songs, this happened twice overall,
in that i have deleted all the songs and reloaded them twice so far and it still doesn't work
please help, feel free to ask any specific questions

So the wrong album art is showing up for some songs on your iPod?
    Try this...
Connect the iPod to the computer. Go to edit-->preferences. Click the iPod tab. Make sure "Show artwork on iPod" is checked. If it is, uncheck it. Click ok. Now go back and recheck the option. Click ok. Wait for the iPod to update. Is the artwork now there and displaying correctly?
If not, then do the same steps again. However, this time, let the iPod update and then eject it once you uncheck the option. Then disconnect it from the computer. Now reconnect it and enable the option. iTunes should say "optimizng artwork for iPod"
If that doesn't work, you may need to restore...
    Restore the iPod

  • IPad doesn't display correct album art

I could really use some help here, I am at the end of my rope.  I have HomeSharing on so that my iPads and iPhones will play music and movies from our iTunes library.  I have an iPhone 5, an iPhone 4S, an iPad 4 and (2) iPad 2 models.  Both iPhones and the iPad 4 will display the correct album art in the movies but the iPad 2's scramble up the album art.  For instance on the iPad 4 shows the Aladdin album art where it says Aladdin is but on the iPad 2 (both of them) it will display random album art.  So you'll be looking at a picture of Bug's Life but the line states that the movie is Aladdin.  Now when you select that movie and it enters the info page where the play button is, the album art comes up correctly.  It's just in the title screen or selection screen this happens.  Then to add to that, the music and music videos all displays fine, the correct album art every time.  For some reason, this is only happening in the movies.  And again, only happening on the iPad 2's.  There is no issue with the newer iPad or the iPhones.  So is this a setting that is goofed?  A software issue that I can't resolve?  I would appreciate any input you can provide, especially if you can help me fix this!!
FYI, the iPad 2's are my daughter's so I have the PG restriction on making sure that they can't watch anything PG-13 or over.  Although it won't display a PG-13 or over movie, it will display the album art (for instance it will show Hills Have Eyes instead of Aladdin although the text shows Aladdin and again, if you click on it the correct album art shows Aladdin in the info screen).  I thought maybe the restrictions were the problem so I shut them off but that didn't resolve the issue.

Me Too. Glad to hear I'm not alone in this...
I can't explain it. All my songs show the correct art in iTunes but it's often mismatched on the Nano. I've noticed that selecting a problem track in iTunes, get info and clicking "ok" on the already correct art, sometimes corrects the issue (for that one track) on the Nano after the next sync.. but not always.
p.s. Other posts say "restore" is the answer. I'll try that tonight.

  • Album Art not syncing properly since updating Touch and iTunes (Mac and Win

Both my partner and I are both experiencing problems with cover art on our Touches.
He uses Vista and I use a Mac - before we updated everything was fine. iTunes displays the right album art but when you run through coverflow on the touches you end up with random album art. Currently I have a Janet Jackson album cover on an album belonging to A-ha.
The same problems occurs with my partners touch.
Is this a bug in the Touch update or iTunes update? Can it be fixed - I am not sure how though as iTunes appears to be displaying the right information!

I have not seen this behavior, but you might want to try a restore on the Touch to see if that helps.
I have to wonder about something possibly being wrong on your library - possibly outdated or bad ID3 tags.
YOu could try to fix this by: (I saw this fixed issues for others elsewhere, but I have not done it)
    Open iTunes.
Select all of your music in your library.
Goto the Advanced menu and select "Convert ID3 tags"
Select ID3 tag version and select 2.4 from the drop-down menu, click OK.
It will take a while, depending on how much music you have.
Restore the iPod(s) and sync again.
    Does that fix it?
