Random, and rather odd, MIDI bug?
For some reason, in the current session I'm working in, there seems to be some weird MIDI bug. I haven't changed any settings, so not sure what it could be.
Here's what happens:
Every time I record a MIDI part, once I stop recording, it automatically copies the part I just did and pastes it all the way to the end of the song. I need to delete the stuff following each time.

Any ideas what it could be? It only seems to be doing it with this instrument though (Miroslav Philharmonic Orchestra) and didn't do it with BFD. It's not something that usually happens, seeing as I often use these two instruments together in a session.
Any thoughts and ideas would be most welcome!

In the inspector for that track, do you have the "Loop" check box selected.
It's in the upper left part of the screen.

Hi, I pre-ordered a N900 two months ago. I finally got it yesterday, and since then I've been experiencing random and frequent reboots of the device. I don't have to do anything fancy, it simply reboots from time to time without warning. It's a real pain.
This is being discuss in the maemo website [1] and there's two bugs [2] & [3] open on this issue. I'd like to know if I should return the device as many are doing or if I should wait for a prompt firmware upgrade. I don't want to wait another two months for a replacement (I think the supplies are a bit short due to high demand) but I don't want to stick to a possible erratic hardware.
Please Nokia, give me some advice. Thanks.

I'm using firmware version 1.2009.42-11 atm, works better with multitasking then previous version. Even with previous firmware, NEVER froze and rebooted once (i think thats pretty awsome for a brand new OS). It has amazing stability, and trust me, i use it A LOT, and 80% of the time i have it online.

Macbook Pro randomly and regularly. Any help?
My Macbook Pro (Mid 2010, 2.66 Ghz Intel i7, 8Gb, 10.8) keeps randomly restarting. It doesnt appear to be related to any open apps, I have checked the smart status of my drives etc. and so far no luck. I would really appreciate some help, below is the error report of the most recent crash.

However, the crashes seem to be random and with varying frequency, some times it is fine for days others it is more regular. So I am unsure wether no crashes in safe mode was luck or not.

Sometimes, when iTunes is open awhile, usually when it is using a lot of memory from what it is doing, it misplays MIDI files. The exact problem is that an instrument is supposed to be muted after a specific duration in the MIDI file, but iTunes continues to allow the instrument overplay its actual duration in the song. The problem is intermittent and does not always occur. I can give you a song example if you are seeking. Right now, I am having that issue occasionally with Aimons-Nous Vivants (MIDI file) by François Valéry. As stated, this problem doesn't happen on every play, you just have to keep playing it enough times until it finally does happen. To verify this is indeed a problem with iTunes and not my MIDI file, I have also listened to the music video on YouTube for this song and observe that the extended playing of one instrument does not happen in the song. I am currently using iTunes 10.7, have not upgraded on my MacBook Pro because I don't like the new version as much and also still running 10.6.8 so that I can use some PowerPC apps. If you have any other questions, I would be glad to answer them.
Hi Elandruss - I was just about to open a new post about names of MIDI tracks when I saw your comment.
Incidentally, MIDI support seems to vary significantly between the various incarnations of iTunes, so it may help if we identify the versions we're talking about! I'm using 6.0.2(23) and it plays MIDI pretty well. It will also convert MIDI files to MP3 etc, which can then be burned to CD in the usual way. You can play MIDI on iPods, but only if you create an digitised copy first (Advanced/Convert selection...). As I recall, MIDI support is missing from iTunes 5 but it may have been there in earlier versions.
However, like you I currently have a problem with track names. iTunes is clearly picking up the title information that resides in the MIDI file and is using this as the track name. This is probably OK when the .mid file is first imported as the internal name will usually be more informative than the filename. The problem is that iTunes seems to reset the track name EVERY TIME IT OPENS THE FILE - e.g. when you play it.
I currently have recently added a batch of about 20 MIDI files that each have the same internal title (the composer's name). After after going painstaking though and correcting the track titles, they have all reverted to the same duplicate title!!! Unless there is a way round this problem that I haven't found, this is a significant bug which makes it extremely difficult to work with MIDI files in the current version of iTunes. (The original iTunes 6 was OK, since it took the track name from the title of the .mid file)

Random dom-related? JS bugs after 3.6.14 update
After updating to 3.6.14 there are continous JS bugs. For instance, dom:loaded functions don't fire, and I'm having bugs with the Prototype JS library. One thing that is curious - and perhaps might help - is that functions that don't fire onblur or onclick do tend to fire after the firebug console is loaded. Although, sometimes the actual functions remain 'undefined' in the console as well, despite the fact they work in Chrome 9 and Safari 5.0.4.

1. functions aren't loading into the DOM apparently or remain undefined. appears to be random?
2. sometimes functions load after the Firebug console is opened.

Update process was as per usual:
1) restart into single user mode
2) fsck -fy then exit
3) repair permissions using Disk Utility
4) restart
5) clone start-up disk
6) restart
7) install COMBO update.
However on each update from 10.6 I've had problems a few hours into using the new upgrade. The 10.6.2 upgrade required me to restore from a back-up clone, but the 10.6.3 one seems to be having it's own problems.
It can be anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours between failures, and it usually starts with the network being dropped, followed by an inability to open the network preference pane, followed by the freezing of just about everything that's currenty running. Can't even open spotlight to run activity monitor. -
Notes randomly hanging with external MIDI device
I have recently moved to Logic Express on an Imac from PC where I used Cubase SX for many years (I was eventually driven mad by audio problems etc..!) I have a Roland JV 1080 Synth module which I still love, but something in about my new set up does not feel the same way! I am using an M Audio Fast Track Pro interface USB interface for audio and for the MIDI link to the JV 1080. The frustrating thing is I keep getting hanging notes that occur randomly. I have managed to deduce that the hanging occurs more frequently when notes overlap by between 2 and 12 ticks but there are even exceptions to this! I have had no problem of this kind with the JV 1080 before, but maybe it is reacting badly to the Fast Track and or Logic? It has baffled the experts in my local Apple Store. I have the latest drivers for Logic and the Fast Track Pro. Any suggestions?
Thanks very much for the reply, but, although I don't want to talk to soon, I think I've sorted it! I have managed to get Logic to recognise my old Midisport 2x2 USB (the lime green box) and the problem seems to have gone away! I hesitate to point the finger directly at the Fast Track Pro because I think the cause was more subtle than that - it was a combination of devices that for some dark, hidden reason were destined never to work properly together! Thanks any way. I love my Mac again.

There was a program in place to replace the motherboard within 3 years of purchase, but you're probably outside of that. Some folks have supposedly gotten theirs changed outside of that period, so you can try.

What you can do to use it is download gfxcardstatus from http:gfx.io and force the graphics to Intel. That will lessen the panics at the expense of graphics speed.
You may be eligible for a depot repair, which is a flat rate of about $310. Ask at the Genius Bar. Take along a printout of your panic. -
Strange MIDI bug involving C4 -- either won't register in Logic or hangs
I'm facing a very strange problem. The middle C (C4) on my MIDI controller (using a Fastlane USB MIDI interface) often doesn't register in Logic. But if I press it a lot in quick succession, sometimes I can get Logic to recognize it and play it on a software instrument. But then it often hangs. Certain other notes hang too, like E4. It's always the same notes that show this susceptibility. I have no problems with B3 or C#4.
Also, when the middle C or some other note hangs, Logic becomes very unstable and often crashes the whole computer with a kernel panic as soon as I press play.
The strange thing is that this problem doesn't appear at all when I try to play the same notes in Garageband 3. The notes play and release perfectly. So it can't be a problem with my MIDI controller or the USB MIDI interface. It happens just when I'm trying to hit C4 and some other notes from a MIDI controller in Logic 7.2.1.
Has anyone else run into this weird problem?

I too am having some weird MIDI problems in Logic: mine take the form of random glitches in MIDI timing, and occasional notes that simply don't play. I started a thread on this a few days ago. What's interesting about your post is that you, like me, are using a MacBook Pro.
My timing glitches crop up in GarageBand as well as Logic, and since I've tried two different keyboards and two different MIDI/Audio I/O boxes, I'm confident the problem lies somewhere between the MIDI interface and the software front end. Best guess is that this is something that's happening on Intel macs, though of course there may be another explanation. But nobody running a G5 system seems to be having my particular problem, so I was interested that you're having something that's broadly similar - ie, MIDI glitching on an Intel mac.
Let's hope Apple are cruising these threads and bring out some sort of fix. And I'd be VERY interested to hear from anyone else running Logic on an Intel Mac - is anyone having a rock-solid, hassle-free MIDI experience on such a system?

After iOS 7 update, my iPhone 4s Voice Memo App has 5 second delay when the record button is pressed. When it starts recording, it goes from 0 seconds to 5 or so seconds that it shows has recorded. This happens randomly and often, sometimes it will have the 5+ second delay but starts recording at zero seconds. Besides the delay it has been working fine as far as saving and playback is concerned. I have plenty of storage on the phone itself and it NEVER had this problem before I updated to iOS 7. I've reset the phone a couple times by holding down the power and home buttons at the same time. The reason I have an issue with this is that I'm always recording song ideas, melodies, and scratch takes; what I'm saying is when I come up with an idea I need to be able to know that when I hit record it will start right then so I don't forget anything that has just popped in my mind.
Does anyone have a solution or suggestion?

I've reset the phone a couple times by holding down the power and home buttons at the same time. The reason I have an issue with this is that I'm always recording song ideas, melodies, and scratch takes; what I'm saying is when I come up with an idea I need to be able to know that when I hit record it will start right then so I don't forget anything that has just popped in my mind.
Does anyone have a solution or suggestion?

I was having this problem with the vibration IPhone keeps vibrating randomly with no notification don't know what's the problem with it !!
And currently when I tried to charge it it wont charge I tried to do some research about this issue and have read some of the same problem
here in the forum with same issue and done almost everything changed the cable , core , usb did the hard reset still nothing !!!

I discovered that its not a battery issue
The reason is that it's chargeable while the phone is switched off completely !
after a while you can see the battery charge is full 100%
but when it's switched on the phone wont charge or recognized
the cable from wall charger or usb so I the ITunes won't sync or see the device !
I think its something with the software !
I tried to update to IOS 5.1.1 but after downloading
it wont install the new update I got this message;
"Unable to Install Update"
An error occurred installing IOS 5.1.1
So that only chance which I think it might hwlp solving the problem is dead now
I really have no idea what to do other than taking this phone to Apple

OK folks I started my deep research about this issue ( MY problem )
Don't know if some one out there is even got similar issue
The battery is charging well while my phone is switched off so last night
my Iphone runs out of charge completely 0% so I plugged the cable
and switch it on after a while and all the sudden it shows that the battery
is charging while its switched on !!
If you want to do this you have to plug the charging cable first then turn off
your Iphone and wait for a while then turn it back on ( sipmle off ) no need
for the (Hard) Reset or recovery mode / DFU mode .
Just as a normal way to of switching off your Iphone by
Holding down the sleep/wake button at the top right-hand corner of the iPhone for a few seconds.
This will bring up a screen asking you to run the slider across the screen to turn off the iPhone.
Wait few seconds and repeat that with holding that same sleep/wake button at the top right-hand corner for like a Sec and it will turn on , Then you can
see that your phone is charging while its on !
If you unplug your charging cable this will ruin the whole plan and if you
you plug it again it wont show anything and will not be able to charge
while its on and you have to repeat that procedure.
Now we are sure that out Dock and Charging Port and battery are working fine , So whats the problem here and why my PC wont detect my Iphone ??

So I think my main problem is from that tiny part that makes all that
problem I have now so I have to replace it first just to make sure before
replacing any other parts so this is the start I hope this was the problem
that caused all this !!!

How do I monitor and record a MIDI instrument on Garageband?
I may be missing something simple in Garageband setup. I want to monitor and record a drumkit via its MIDI output. It is a Yamaha DTXplorer so I have Subtlesoft Midipipe installed and a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB converter. Microphones and guitars are being monitored and recorded with without problem. When I connect the Focusrite to my Macbook air and drumkit the MIDI indicators are blank, no MIDI input detected by Garageband. Then I close GB and launch Midipipe, the MIDI input detected light on the Focusrite illuminates and GB detects one MIDI input (Saffire 6) in preferences window. But if I select new track/software instrument Saffire 6 input is grayed out and so cannot be selected (if I select the mic or guitar sources it is bold and can be selected). If I go ahead and create the software instrument there is no monitor button and nothing is heard or recorded.
What is the best way to uninstall and reinstall the Focusrite MIDI interface driver. And to uninstall and reinstall the Subtlesoft Midipipe (which is required to get the correct mapping for a Yamaha drumkit)? This was done for me at the Apple Store One On One session in a prior attempt to fix this problem but obviously it did not work. I'd like to try it one more time with the drumkit connected. I did see a screen at one point which allowed me to select the inputs from the Focusrite but I could never find it again. I don't think it was a Garageband menu but somewhere else, maybe during the driver or software install for the Focusrite. I would love to get back to that screen again and take a hard look at it.

My iPad has been acting very ghost-like, typing randomly and switching between different screens. When I check my mail, it starts deleting messages. It has and invisible finger typing and touching things, also opening apps. It's possessed. What do i do???????
I Had the ghost touching problem and found that when I held the ipad with the screen facing the floor, the ghosting stopped. I reasoned it must be something loose that made contact in the normal position. The only thing I could come up with was the home button. The home button assembly consists of a frame, a small circuit board that makes contact with the motherboard to move the pages etc, the button , and a spring retainer between the button and the small circuit board. If the retainer is missing or has moved out of position, the button does not spring away from the circuit board and any movement of the ipad allows the bottom to make intermittent contact to move pages etc. I opened the ipad up and sure enough the retainer was missing. I reinstalled the button assembly with the spring retainer, put everything back together, voila the ghosting stopped. My iPod is like new. The problem you will face to fix this, you have to remove the glass screen of the ipad. Not an easy job. And bad things may happen in the process. Google a service to do it for you. May cost you a hundred bucks. There may be other reasons for ghosting but this. Fix worked. Good luck.
