Random backup is taking a lot of my system space.

When I look at my 'about my mac' storage settings I see that I have 125gb of backups where can I find this data and possible delete it because it seems like an awful lot of space.

  • Mobile Backups on mac taking up 1/3 of disk space

    Hello,
So I was just cleaning up my mac. I went to 'about this mac' under the apple on finder, and went to storage. It says that backups are taking up 145.16GB of disk space. What does it mean by backups? Can I get rid of them? I do have time machine set up, but I dont get why it is taking up so much space.
    Thanks for your help!!
Have macbook pro 2012 running OSX 10.10

When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.

How do I get my music onto icloud from my ipad? I can see i have plenty of icloud storage but can't get my music to store on icloud hence taking up lots of storage on my ipad

If you want to be able to access your entire music library from iCloud, you'll have to subscribe to iTunes Match (http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/).  Music purchased from the iTunes store is already in iCloud as it can be redownloaded at any time (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).

  • Simple select query is taking a lot of time

    hi gems...
    my table has 7267563 rows...and i am doing a simple select * from table;
but it is taking a lot of time nearly 25minutes but not completed...
when i did select count(1) from table then it gave the result instantly also select * from table where rownum < 10 is also fine...even when i am selecting all the records using rownum i.e. select * from table where rownum < 7267563 is also giving result instantly...
but the entire table is not getting result i.e. select * from table...also there is no lock in the table(though i know that select is nothing to do with lock)..
what may be the issue..please suggest...thanks in advance...

  • Level1 backup is taking more time than Level0

The Level1 backup is taking more time than Level0, I really am frustated how could it happen. I have 6.5GB of database. Level0 took 8 hrs but level1 is taking more than 8hrs . please help me in this regard.

By enabling the block change tracking will be indeed faster than before he have got. I think this does not address the question of the OP unless you are saying the incremental backup without the block change tracking is slower than a level 0 (full) backup?
    Thank you in anticipating.
    OganOgan,
I can't explain why a 6.5GB level 0 RMAN backup would require 8 hours to complete (maybe a very slow destination device connected by 10Mb/s Ethernet) - I would expect that it should complete in a couple of minutes.
An incremental level 1 backup without a block change tracking file could take longer than a level 0 backup. I encountered a good written description of why that could happen, but I can't seem to locate the source at the moment. The longer run time might have been related to the additional code paths required to constantly compare the SCN of each block, and the variable write rate which may affect some devices, such as a tape device.
A paraphrase from the book "Oracle Database 10g RMAN Backup & Recovery"
"Incremental backups must check the header of each block to discover if it has changed since the last incremental backup - that means an incremental backup may not complete much faster than a full backup."

  • Startup taking a LOT of Time

    Hi All,
We have our application on Weblogic Server 8.1 SP5 and its taking a lot of time while starting up.
What I found that these lines are the ones which are taking up majority of the time.
Kindly Suggest how we can improve on this.

The above 2 lines are taking 1.5min each.

I suggest that you take some thread dumps 10-15 secs apart during the time it's slow. The log timing alone won't tell you where the threads are spending time.

  • First backup is taking forever (more than two days) in my MacBook Air

First backup is taking forever , painfully slow, I am using MacBook Air, what can I do to speed things up. is there a particular way to set TC up ?? I set it up to join an existing wireless network, is this right or wrong? I just need a few tips to make the backup faster.

Answer: yes, the Time Capsule is junk - in my opinion. I was excited about an all-in-one router plus 1TB of backup wirelessly available, but if you check the many posts about this thing, you'll hear about numerous problems:
    - unbelievably slow backups, overnight or longer for the first, very long for even small backups after minor activity - and not necessarily due to network speeds.
    - heat issues - this thing runs very hot, even with fans running, and people have had to put little rubber feet under it to improve airflow, etc. - not something I think is reasonable for a $500+ item - some get an "overheating" message from the utility app.
    - problems with hanging - it hangs on "Preparing Backup" (as it did for me for days) and doesn't backup - thereby making the unit useless as it was designed.
    - mounting and recognition issues - not so much with me but for quite a few others.
SEND IT BACK... I am sending mine back and going back to manual backups where I can see exactly what is being backed up to my external HDD and where it is. The opaque nature of the entire Time Machine backup is irritating to me - TC was "backing up" say, "75MB of 125.3MB" but I had no idea what it was backing up, and why only 125.3MB? Was that all my activity changed during the session? Or all sorts of system files, etc. being backed up? I'm not techie enough to get into the guts of it, so I am going back to my usual external HDD to do it by hand. It's a good habit to get into (if inconvenient compared to the TC) but at least I am secure with it.
I am also not sure if TC can be used as a plug-and-play USB storage drive if I were to, say, just connect it to a Windows machine and try to access files in folders. I suppose not?

  • Select Command taking a lot of time to execute

    Dear Experts,
My below SELECT command taking a lot of time to execute.
          SELECT wid
                       matl_desc
                       INTO TABLE open_wid FROM zwb_table
                       WHERE ( weight2 = 0 OR weight2 IS NULL ).
Table : zwb_table contains around 7 Lacs records. That's why taking a lot of time . I have also Indexed the table zwb_table with field WID & WEIGHT2 . (zwb_table contains only WID as Primary Key Field)
    Structure of Internal Table : open_wid ->
                                             wid LIKE zwb_table-wid,
                                             matl_desc LIKE zwb_table-matl_desc,
Please suggest me how to Improve the Performance of the above Select command.
    Thanks in Advance
    JACK

    Hi Jack,
you are having morethan 7lack records in z table. it is not good practice fetching all the records into internal table and restricting with where clause in loop statement.
I hope you already created secondary index combination of primary key.
check you select query fetching records based on index you have created in ST05.
Refer below link for your program is using index that you have created.

when round tripping with photoshop cc, i get a saved psd file with my original raw,the problem is these are high file sizes and taking a lot of space, can i stop this?

That's not the workflow that I use. I have my Lightroom preferences set to create TIF images when going to Photoshop. I keep the original raw file and the TIF image (usually reduced to an 8-bit image) and only export JPEG's when they are needed to send to a lab or to send to someone over the Internet. JPEG files are highly compressed. I only create them when they are needed, and they are discarded as soon as they have been used for their intended purpose. I keep the raw file and the Photoshop-created TIF in my library. This requires extra disk space. But I always have the highest quality files available.

  • Can we optimize the query  :  It is taking a lot of time

the following query is taking a lot of time ...
Can anyone suggest to make it run faster ???
table B has 12 million records
    table a has 10000 records
    CREATE TABLE less_time
         PARALLEL
         NOLOGGING
         AS
         SELECT a.user_id,a.mp_id, COUNT(product_id) product _count
         FROM table a,table b
         WHERE TRUNC(a.call_time) < TRUNC(SYSDATE) - 1
         AND a.history_id = b.call_id
         AND b.product_type = 1
         AND b..product_status= 50
         AND user_id IS NOT NULL
         GROUP BY user_id,mp_id;

    analyze index indx_mtx compute statistics
    thanks for explaining David ...
    Actually I somewhat bettered it
i made a consolidated index on table b
like create index indx_ty on table b (call_id,mp_id,user_id,b.product_type,product_status)
now the explain plan shows that the query is much much faster also i did one trick in the query
    SELECT a.user_id,a.mp_id, COUNT(product_id) product _count
i changed to SELECT a.user_id,a.mp_id, COUNT(1) product _count
to enable it to do FFS
    thanks anyways ....

Reconnect just the AC and try.
-See if BIOS can be reset.
Start hiting F2 when while powering the system on.
If succesfull in booting into BIOS. Hit F9 the F10
Try Removing the Harddrive and turn the system on, See if there will be any changes.

  • Background task taking a lot of time to execute

    Hi,
There is a background task in my workflow which is taking a lot of time to execute.
I have tested it in dialog mode.. and it works fine.. takes just 2 mins.
Only when the task is executed from background.. it takes about 10 mins.
Is this a config problem? How do I check if it is so?

you could try activating a trace (sql) and see what the differences are,.
you could check if maybe user parameters are influencing this. Or ask your basis team if there are a lot of differences between syystem users and dialog users in terms of resource allocation.
Did you find anything different whilst debugging it?
    Kind regards, Rob Dielemans
