  • IPad makes random beeping noise

the New iPad started making a weird beeping noise at random intervals. It started a few weeks after buying it. Its been going on for more than a month now and its frustrating not knowing where it is coming from or why. the sound isn't even one of the options in the settings-->general-->sounds. there are two notes, the first one lower in pitch than second one.
there doesnt seem to be a pattern to it. no dialog box comes up. it can happen when the iPad is being used or when it is asleep (with Smartcover or without Smartcover). I tried looking at the notifications panel and the sounds but there was nothing there. (white iPad with WiFi - no 3G)
Any ideas what it can be?
    Thanks!

Did you try to reset the iPad by holding the sleep and home button for about 10min, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data doing a reset.
If this does not work, set it up as new device, explained in this article:

  • My iMac recently started making random beeping noises. They are all different pitches and lengths. Nothing like a notification. Also does it with the sound muted. I've deleted Skype (several people recommended that) and restarted & shutdown. Please help!

This has been going on for a few months and seems to be getting worse. At times it will be frequent, other times only a few random beeps an hour. Seems to be worse when something is loading or "thinking". I have a video of the beeping sounds I will upload when I get home as it won't let me do it here at work. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, it is driving me crazy! I'm also worried it will crash on me.

    Beeps on startup:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images.
5 beeps = processor is not usable

  • Relentless Beeping Noise

    Hello,
Just wondering if someone could please help me with this. My Macbook, over the past few weeks, has for some reason started beeping. The noise seems to be originating from within the computer itself (i.e. not coming from the speakers). At times the beeping is quick and quiet, but others it is long and VERY loud. Also, just before it happens, I feel as though I can hear the computer making that loading noise, as if something was being loaded, and then immediately after (like a fraction of a second) the beeping noise occurs.
Not sure if this means my computer is going to suddenly fail catastrophically, and so any help would be supremely appreciated.
    Thanks!

This beeping plagued me for months and months, driving me insane.  I tried to find a solution on the Internet; however, all I found were many people complaining about this random beeping noise from their HP laptops.  A couple of times the beeping stopped for a few days, but then it would come back.   But almost three months ago it stopped for good (I hope)!  I didn't do anything--it just stopped.  WEIRD.  But you might find this link helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svvZ70_H2wM&feature=email&email=comment_reply_received

  • Weird beeping noises through front 1/8" jack (after wake from sleep)

    Hi,
I am experiencing a really weird problem on my month-old Mac Pro. Whenever I put the computer to sleep, and subsequently wake it up, I get troubled by weird beeping noises coming through whatever headphone/speaker is plugged in to the front headphone jack. These will seemingly randomly occur in either the left or right speaker.
The weird thing about these beeps is that they only occur after a sound has just stopped playing (doesn't matter the source, it can be after a system sound, a new mail sound, after playing a song in iTunes, ...), but they don't appear after every sound. What I mean is that I can play the same sound 10 times over, and the beeping noise will or will not occur completely randomly. Now normally the beeps are very short (and slightly annoying), but sometimes this beep will keep on beeping at a constant tone. The only way to get rid of it (temporarily) is to play a sound through the headphone/speaker, for example by increasing the volume so that the little 'tick'-sound plays or by dis- and then reconnecting the headphone/speaker.
I'm pretty certain that it isn't a software related problem, because once I have a constant beep going I can switch to my line-out on the back of the Mac and turn on the speakers connected there, without them being afflicted (I also never experienced this problem with sound playing via the back line out). What's more, the beeping sound will even then continue to be audible in the headphone connected to the front jack.
There doesn't seem to be any constant factor in this behavior, except that it only occurs after waking the computer from sleep. By now I have already had the front panel replaced, as the Apple reps thought it might be a faulty headphone jack, but to no avail. The matter is ofcourse complicated because I can't reproduce the problem on the fly, because of the random occurences, thus making it hard for the service people to actually get an idea what might be wrong.
As I don't feel like missing my computer again for a while, i thought I'd ask the collected wisdom on this forums if anyone has experienced a similar problem and, if that's the case, if they were perhaps able to find out what the exact cause of this behavior was?
    Thx in advance,
    Tim

Ah bummer (and here I was hoping it could be easily solved) .
I'll still try a fresh system install in a few days time, to make absolutely sure it isn't software-related (against better judgement perhaps in the light of your findings, but at least I'll be able to tell support its definitely not an sw problem). If indeed the problem persists I guess there won't be any other choice than to contact support again (But since I can't afford the computer not to be available for the coming 2 months I guess I'll have to bear it for the time being, which in turns also means I won't be able to let you know if it got fixed until I'm able to bring her in).
Oh and fyi, I also have a second hard-drive installed (Seagate Barracuda 500Gb, same as the factory installed primary one), but that cannot be the cause of the beeping, as I actually bought it because of this problem (to backup my important files while my Mac went in for service the first time). So we can't blame these poor drives for our problem .
Anyway, definitely thanks for chiming in (makes me feel a little bit better knowing that I'm at least not the only one experiencing this annoying problem, although obviously I wished I shouldn't have to feel better about this ) and I'll keep you updated on any further steps made towards solving this problem, even though it may take a while as explained above.
    Cheers!

  • Continuous Beeping noise on Startup and at other times

My iMac is over a year old. I have no idea what is wrong or happening here but below is what happens.
I hear a continuous beeping noise from my iMac at times. I had Firefox open and when it started beeping, a little search bar opened up at the bottom left of the browser so I assumed it was a sticky key on the keyboard so I pressed the spacebar and the beeping stopped and the search bar disappeared. This happened a few more times while I was using the browser.
The other day I started up my iMac and before it opened to the desktop it showed a small iMac HD icon so I clicked it and it started up normally, but then the beeping started so I just hit the spacebar and it stopped. Now I do remember after I turned the iMac on I accidently pressed some keys on the keyboard so this maybe why it showed the HD icon but I don't really know.
Yesterday morning I turned the iMac on and came back to hear it was beeping again. It was just a fast non stop beeping, too fast to count the beeps. It had loaded into the desktop so it was all good apart from the beeping, again I pressed the spacebar and it stopped.
Yesterday afternoon I got more beeping. Beeping is not just on startup it must be something else. I was using Firefox and was trying to scroll down the page, yet it kept jumping back to the top not letting me scroll down. This happened the other day when the beeping started. Anyhow I closed the browser and the beeping starts. I was able to turn the sound down and that got rid of the beeping, turned the sound up and the beeping still there.
    I tried this so far...
unplugged keyboard and started up mac = no beeping
plugged keyboard in and started up mac = beeping
Again this morning I turned my iMac on, and beeping happened again, this time I clicked System Prefrences and the beeping stopped. I then clicked the Sys Pref folder red icon to close it and it made a different noise, but closed. I then opened up Firefox and went straight to my bookmarks to find a link, it wouldn't let me scroll down my list of bookmarks either, then the beeping started so I closed Firefox. Then I heard a loud sratchy type noise, it was much louder and hearing this has now made me think, something is not right.
    Firefox version - 3.5.3
    Mac OS X version 10.5.8
I don't want to set PRAM or those settings yet unless it's needed as I don't know what settings/network etc it will remove or change.
    I appreciate any help:) thanks

  • Can't get rid of the beeping noise!(SOLVED)

Hey guys, so I can't get rid of the beeping noise of my laptop.
I have an Acer Aspire 722. Every time I plug or unplug the power, it beeps. And the really annoying one, everytime I backspace, it beeps.
I've tried going into alsa and muting beep. I put !pcspkr in modules in rc.conf.
I don't know what else to do?
Help will be extremely appreciated. Thanks.
edit: unrelated but something I want to resolve. I get these debugging messages, and found to get rid of them I have to set loglevel= 3 in grub. How do I do that? (SOLVED)
Also, I'm having an issue with x-org. Every time I try to download it, it says it is missing a file. So I figured maybe it is a mirror problem so I went to change my mirror. Pacman keeps trying to use my old mirror even when my mirrorlist does not have that mirror commented out. I also checked pacman.conf and no mirror is being loaded in there with a server=mirror syntax.
    Not sure what is happening?

Please read the man page :-)
    -y, --refresh
Download a fresh copy of the master package list from the
server(s) defined in pacman.conf(5). This should typically be used
each time you use --sysupgrade or -u. Passing two --refresh or -y
flags will force a refresh of all package lists even if they
appear to be up to date.
    (emphasis mine)
    Edit:
lettuceman44 wrote:Also just a question out of curiosity. I have a working connection, but I thought I needed the x window system to run a browser which is what I need to post here right?
Or am I missing something?(linux newbie here )
Nah, you do need a browser, sorry ;P
You should have some simple text-based (links and elinks) on the CD you used for installation, but they may be a bit intimidating to use if you're new.
    Thanks!
I've pretty much have solved all my problems now. Feeling good
Just one last thing I need to deal with
Waiting for Edev uevents to be processed
    edevd[114]: seq 1068 '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:15.3/0000:07:00.0' killed
    Bringing up loopback interface
    udevd[114]:worker [141] terminated by signal 9 (Killed)
What does this mean? It "looks" bad, but I don't know what it means lol. Google isn't helping and it could be normal for all I know.

My computer stopped working and I thought it was my RAM and hard drive so I bought a new one of each of these.  However, when I tried turning my computer back on after replacing them, it still made the beeping noise.  I am clueless.  Does anyone know what could be the cause and how to fix it.  Thanks!!

  • My macbook pro makes erratic beeping noises

My macbook pro makes a distinctive, 3 note beeping noise. It repeats at uneven intervals. I went to Console App and saw the following messages repeated at the exact times these beeps happened, so I imagine they are related. I just don't know what these messages mean, nor how to fix them. • My MacBook pro I got last week makes random clicking noises..

I recently got a MacBook Pro for my 18th birthday present. I turned it on and it started making random clicking noises. It doesn't do it consistently but very randomly and at weird times. Nothing in particular triggers the noise but I'm not quite sure what to do. Help?

It sounds as if your heads are bumping up against the platters. You shouldn't be hearing it and it may be an indication of drive failure. If you haven't already done so, get an external hard drive and make backups of your hard drive using Time Machine or your backup method of choice. Then take it into your local Apple Store and have them run diagnostics. Don't attempt to use Disk Utility or any other utility to repair it.
    Good luck,

  • What are the random swoosh noises...

After I log in within the first 5 minutes I will hear that random swoosh noise. Like the noise you hear when you have new e-mail in your mac mail inbox. But the thing is I have not set up the Macmail thing so I don't know why I hear that random swoosh noise within the first 5 min of logging in. Nothing pops up or anything I'll just hear that noise.
I checked my console and it shows nothing that would possibly make that sound. So what could it be?
