Random black lines in different application screens

My MacBook Pro is displaying random black lines across the screen on various applications. They stay on the screen even if I scroll up and down, but don't go onto background applications or the desktop. Has anyone else had this issue?
I'd be happy to email a screenshot.

Uninstalled iTunes completely and found a older firmware for the iPod. Installed it. Then installed the iTunes 7 but did not have the iTunes update the iPod. Worked like a charm! No more black lines.

  • I have a iPod touch 5th generation and when i turn on the device, its white screen with black lines and different colors

I can turn off the device naturally. But when i turn it on it shows all white with black lines and different colors. Is my LCD screen broken? If it is, can apple fix it?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • Solid black line on HP tablet screen

I just got this HP stream 7 5709. So far so good except there is a horizontal black line just across the screen. I first thought it is the screen protector, but now I begin to think it is in the display itself. Is this known?Attached the image here. Thanks

any kind of lines on the screen that persist all the time are defective LCDs and will need a replacement.

  • Random black lines

i did an upgrade to leopard and i've been having some strange screen issues on my 24". there will be random black horizontal lines across the application i'm running, it has happened with most apps and sometimes i'd get all kinds of crazy lines around a dialog box, i donn know how to describe it, but the lines will move with my apps. for example, if i waz browsing the net a couple of hair thin lines would appear in the browswer, if i move the window, the lines will move with it; sometimes if i move the line out of sight off screen, the line(s) will go away temporarily, this also goes true with the lines that appear around dialog boxes.
i thought it waz an updrade problem so i backed my files onto an external and wiped the the mac clean and did a clean install of leopard to see if that would fix the problem, but sadly the problem persists even after a clean install.
anyone else having this issue? or is it just a coincidence that my old 24" imac display or gpu is wanting to crap out the same time i try to put leopard on it?
i've searched for "black lines" and "display issues" but all i get are blue-screen topics, which btw i have not experienced.

Weird as it sounds, you might wanna try taking out your video card, and blowing the dust off it with a can of compressed air, especially if you have a video card with a fan built into it, and air intakes.
I had a problem that sounds like this that kept getting worse and worse, until my computer started locking up all the time. Turns out that the problem was entirely due to my video card overheating.
The problem got much worse under Leopard due to the extra work it requires of the video card. Once I cleaned it, the computer has been running fine.
Here's my original post with pictures. If your problem looks like the pics I took, you might wanna try cleaning your vid card. http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5681200#5681200

  • Random Black Line in iPhoto Calendar

I have a random black vertical line in the middle of each months page of dates. How do I get rid of it? I came out in print last year and it is visible on the template despite any background choice.
    Thanks

What the theme you tried in the other user account the same as in the problem calendar?
If it was and since you didn't get the line when using iPhoto in the other user account it could be a preference file other than iPhoto's causing the problem.  Here's how that can be tested:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    1 - close all applications.
2 - open your Home/Library folder and Option-drag (copy) the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
3 - select the contents of your Home/Library/Preferences folder and drag them into the Trash bin in the Dock.  You will be asked to provide your Admin password.
4 - reboot. Be sure to know your account's username and password as you will be asked to log in with it.
5 - run the application again and determine if the problem(s) is fixed.
6 - If the problem is fixed:
    A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
B - Open the Preferences  folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.
    D - reboot.
7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.
8 - reboot and you're back as square one.
Note:  keep the Preference folder on the desktop until you're sure all registration info for your apps are working.  If not you can copy the required files from the desktop pref folder to the working one.

  • Vertical black line running down imac screen

This morning i noticed for the first time (wasn't there yesterday) a thin black vertical line running down my 21' imac screen.
    Any suggestions?

Take a screen shot & view that in Preview, move the Preview window around, if you see 2 black lines it a Video card/VRAM problem, if the line does not move moving the pic around then it's the LCD or cable.

  • Black line Down Center of Screen

Alright guys see if you can figure this one out.
I have a MBP I have a black line directly down the center the the screen just under a quarter inch wide. It has been there for a while now but I was trying to fix it today. At times the line can get a bit smaller or larger and rarely it will go away...... I opened it up and unplugged the LVDS cable from the logic board and the entire lcd turned white but once i plugged it back in the lines retured. Not sure if this is an LCD problem or LVDS cable problem. I will add more detail if necessary but this is the start.

Do you see the line while the startup of the computer? Do you see the line when starting from CD/DVD?

  • Hi, my Macbook Pro just shut down for no reason. Before, there were black lines all over the screen. Then it shut down and it started to make beeps (3). What can I do?!

I was using my computer just as usual, I was on Microsoft Words and doing lectures on the Internet. Then, out of nowhere, the screen froze and black lines appeared all over the screen and the computer shut down. The screen was all black, but I think it was still open because my laptop was doing sounds, three beeps. When it beeps, the little light that shows you when your laptop is open is bright, so the beeps and the light are synchronized. AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, help me!!!

There is a hardware problem. Possibly bad RAM. Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Solution for black line in Ipod classic screen?

    Hello
Last week my ipod fell on the floor and since then I have a black line in the middle of the screen. The ipod is phisically intact, no scratch, not broken. Only when I turn it on, I have a big black line in the middle. At the beginning it was small dots and now it s a big line
Is there any solution? Change the screen? Or do I have to live with it?
    Thanks a lot in advance
    Vivile

When you drop it, the impact knock off some connection in the Display circuitry, those SMT balls, so the missing connection cause the unwanted  lines.
However if you are lucky, just try
this iPod Hard Reset ( it wont delete anything on your iPod)
Toggle the Hold switch ( make sure you dont see the red mark)
Press Menu and center buttons simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON then release the buttons.
    Select you language preferrence.
See this Apple support article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
    Good Luck!
You can change your screen, if it is under warranty. (they replaced it with a refurbish iPod)
OR if it is not under warranty, to can also get it replaced for a  fee at Apple shop
or bring it to a 3rd Party iPod service vendor.

  • My ipod has two thin black lines running across the screen. What causes this, and is there a fix?

Suddenly, my Classic ipod got two narrow, black lines runnings horizontally across the screen.  Will thes eventually go away or is the screen damaged?
    Thanks!

You can work through the remaining five 5 R's of troubleshooting.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

Look as if you're having a GPU glitch. If I were you, I'd take the computer into your local Apple Store and run extensive diagnostics on it. You can do a basic hardware check yourself, using the Apple Hardware Test.

  • My iPad 1 has started reverting to the home screen at random intervals in all different applications.  Cause and fix?

I have searched and cannot find a solution.  I have reset device and done a factory wipe back to original specs.  No change.  It appears to be a potential operating system issue but I cannot find any fixes.  Apple has nothing posted about this problem I can find.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

  • Is anyone else observing black lines all around applications windows in Mavericks?

Note that when I am in application windows am observing lines around my applistion windows as if there ewre multiple echos of the window and this happened since I upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks.  I will attempt to insert a screen shot of the problem.  I'm wondering if this is a common problem with Mavericks and how to stop it or cure the problem.
    I'm using a 17" MBP

it seems to still be working... I thought the problem is generated by some program conflict so therefore I erased all .plist files in preferences/library from old programs I don't use especially those tweak programs from older versions of mac os x. And also all plist files that has to do with the word graphic. The computer works fine afterwards. The lines appeared after a while after starting the computer but now I haven't turned it off since 30 hours ago and it is still running. I've done a few restarts since the cleansing af plist files in the days before. I don't know still what the problem is but I know that I did one thing more and that is too changing "automatic graphic exchange" in system back and forth. I've a idea that it maybe was the trick.
