Random changes when changing setting for individual slide in a slideshow

I've used iPhoto for years and produced many slideshows. However, now when I try to use Ken Burns Effect for an individual slide, I click on the "start" area, adjust my slide, click on "end," and then iPhoto jumps to a totally different slide in the slideshow. When I go back to the slide I wanted to work with, nothing was saved, and the same random change of picture happens.
Actually, the Ken Burns Effect hasn't worked correctly on ANY slide I've tried.
Also, when I try to rearrange the slide order, the slides may stay in the correct order for a few seconds, but then a slide may jump four slides to the right (and again out of order). This behavior is strange and random. It is infuriating and I don't know what to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ALSO, when I export a slideshow with music, the song plays fine for a few minutes, but then another song starts and the two songs are playing on top of each other (actually, it may be the same song playing over itself too).
What gives?!

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

Shame to remove Get Info option to change language for individual application!

Its a shame for Apple to remove the Get Info panel option to change language for individual application! For these days I used Leopard, where I had this option, now I bought a brand new mac, for a bunch of money, with Lion, and this option had disappeared. What's that? Apple is working on making more complicated the life of their users?

Thanks for your tip, but languageswitcher not set the language permanently just for the applications started from that application. Very inelegant and windows like way.
I used the terminal to set the defaults for individual application, but that is step back to the age of command line.
I spent with this problem 1 hour instead of 1 minutes. Big step back.

The volume slowly increases to the 100% even when I set the volume slider to 1%...

When I try to set the volume lower on my PC, it quickly increases to 100% volume, even when I set the volume slider to 1 or 2%. When I set it to 0%, however, it does mute the volume. It's rediculous! I just want quieter music, but I am constantly blasted by maxed out volume...

A stuck multimedia key on your keyboard to increase the volume perhaps? iTunes won't change the volume of its own accord. Perhaps there is an option in your control panel to disable the function.

IPhoto '11 Saved Slideshow not saving settings for individual slides

Please, need help in iPhoto '11 with Saved Slideshows. I will try rephrasing my question as I received no answers when I posted yesterday. I create my Saved Slideshow by choosing File>New>Slideshow. It then shows up at the bottom of my Source List under Slideshows. I am trying to have individual settings for each slide: timing, transition, and Ken Burns effect. I check each box in the "This Slide" menu and type in what I want. When I exit the Saved Slideshow the first two settings are saved and as I left them, but the KB box is no longer checked. It works fine when I click "Preview." I have carefully read all the forum discussions dating back to last fall and see that I am not the only one with the problem. Like others I noticed that the KB effect won't "stick" only on certain slides, mostly Landscape images. KB settings for Portrait images seem to "hold." I'm not a novice in creating Saved Slideshows. I've done this in iPhoto '08 with no problem at all. I reported this to Apple as a possible bug. I feel like there is now no way I can make the slideshow I want to burn to a DVD to share with family and view on a TV. As far as I can tell you can't do KB effects for individual slides in the latest version of iDVD without having made a Saved Slideshow in iPhoto first. Can anyone help me? I am so frustrated.

I am 99% sure that this has something to do with how NEF files work. If I understand them correctly, the original raw data is stored in one portion of the file and then versions of the file are stored within it (these are the 'versions' that you can make in NX2). The versions are just whatever mathematical transformations are applied to the raw data to get the version of the image that you want to see. It is a brilliant way to store information and many versions of photos (different sizes of crops, b/w, colour, sepia, etc...) in their highest possible resolution without taking up an inordinate amount of disk space. The raw data are huge, but each version only adds a tiny bit to the size.
The problem with iPhoto is that it can only see the raw data - not the metadata containing all of the transformations to get the edited version of the photo. This means that if you load the photos into the iphoto library as nef files and then edit them with an external editor (i.e. NX2), the files will be edited, and when you open them again in NX2 from iPhoto, then you'll see the edits, but the edited version will not be visible in iPhoto. If you work with NX2 and iPhoto (as I do), you basically need to save your edited versions of files as .jpg or .tiff and then re-import them into iPhoto. It is a bit of a pain, but I am sure that it could be fixed in a future version of iPhoto.

Changing attributes for a slide show's background image

I want to change the "darkness" of the picture that I use as a backdrop for all my slides. I do not see how this can be done within Keynote. Individual imported pictures, yes, but not ones that I have designated as background pictures in the Slide Inspector > Appearance > Background > Image Fill.
I do this because I can change the background fill for multiple slides by shift clicking on the slides to select them, and then setting the background image all at once. But I often find the image is to dark (because I place text over the top of the background image), and so I want to lighten it up.
Is there any way to do this short of using the image adjustments within a program like iPhoto and saving the modified file? Is there another way to do what I want?

Also, as a bonus question, it really bothers me that there is no easy way to change the font attributes on multiple slides all at once. Unless someone has a better idea . . .

There are several threads that deal with this issue, but here is the basic info:
1) You cannot change a "soundtrack" within a slideshow.
2) You can create a series of independent slideshows, each with its own soundtrack. Then you can sequence each to the next via a Hyperlink. However ...
3) Any "synchronization" of the Builds and Transitions you may have Recorded with the soundtrack will NOT work if the slideshow is played as a Hyperlink. The soundtrack will play when the slideshow launches, but you will have to trigger the Builds and Transitions manually.
4) All bets are off if you try to export any of this to another format, such as QuickTime, PowerPoint, iMovie, etc.

Change length of individual slide. Keynote 6.2 Mavericks

In general I want 5 second slides with a 1 sec. dissolve between. Slide show is autoplay.
But some slides have video clips that last longer than 5 sec. and they are getting cut off.
I also want to set a few slides to less than 5 sec.
The only slide length setting I see is under Document which seems to be a global setting.

1 - Set the presentation to normal:     Inspector > Document > Presentation Type
2 - in the navigator panel, select all the slides (command A)
3 - in the Inspector > Animate > start transition; automatically
         set the display time of the slide in the delay box
4 - if you need different display times for each slide, select each slide in turn in the
          navigator panel, and enter the duration in the time delay box
5 - for the slide that has video:   select the slide in the navigator, enter the play duration
          of the video in the delay box, the maximum duration allowed is 600 seconds

there are text pages that need to be read but not at a 4 second speed
it has to be slower more time
syncing to music i compose is a must
can each individual photo have its own time
i hope so or else they ruined a wonderful product
with this limitation

Yes, you can. Under the slide there's a button titled "Adjust'. Click on it and you can set the time for that slide, the transition, etc.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Transitions set for entire slide show?

In '09, can one set transition times for an entire show or are they still set individually as in '08. Can't decide whether to use iMovie or Keynote for photo slide shows and this is a key factor due to the number of slides.

As in '08, in the Slide Navigator simply select all the slide thumbnails and apply a transition and set the timing -- all slides will be affected. (You can select all the slides by a) clicking on the top slide, then shift-clicking on the bottom slide, or b) click-and-drag from the bottom of the left sidebar below the last thumbnail up to the top, or c) click in the sidebar and then in the Edit menu choose "Select All".)

Slideshow text for individual slides in LR 4.4

Is it possible to place text in individual slides in LR 4.4? If so, how? Currently have only been able to have text apply to all slides.

In slideshows you can display metadata fields as text - for instance <Title> or <Caption>.
Give each photo a different caption (do this in Libarary) then <Caption> in the slide show will display individual text for each photo.
Same goes for <Title>.

Need to export audio for individual slides from slideshow recording

I have a Captivate project that was recorded using full motion video whilst navigating through a PowerPoint slideshow. Some of the slides have now been updated, and I need to break up the original recording and extract audio for each individual slide. This will also make incremental updates easier for me going forward.
Is there any way to do this using Captivate?

Hi Ron.
Do you know that each clip you record during captivate is saved as an individual Wav file?
If you go do the Audio Menu, and then Audio Management you can see which wav file is attached to which slide.
Are you using captivate 5?
If you are, then the next step is to click on the speaker icon for the slides on the left side of the screen, and you can edit the audio track as needed or cut out the parts as needed....
If this is what your doing I can explain it better, just not sure if this is what your after.

Can you customize individual slides in a slideshow?

I'm just now trying to create a slideshow in LR4 for a client, and am trying to figure out (banging my head against a wall) how to customize each individual slide. I'd like each slide to have the image positioned in a different location - not all centered, not all placed to the left, and not all placed to the right (i.e. the first one on the left side, the second one in the middle, the third one on the right, the fourth one centered, etc.). Can this be done hopefully? I have spent hours today looking at adobe, youtube, etc. trying to find the answer. I don't think it's possible, and if not, I think it needs to be changed in future versions of LR.

Nope ... unfortunately the Slideshow module is a pure vanilla presentation ... all images centered, no panning or zoom, one audio file, one transition ... just the basics ...
I also wouldn't hold out any hope for improvements in the near future ... the Slideshow module has went relatively untouched since it was first introduced in 2006 ... it is what it is ... which is not much of an asset at all ...

How to change setting for 'last 5 password change prompt'

in sap, when a user changes a password sometimes he/she gets a message "Please select a password that is different from last 5".
now i am in need to change this default value of "5" to "2" but i dont know what is the parameter name for changing this setting.
i would appreciate if anybody can tell me how to change this setting.

ITunes 11.1.5 is randomly changing genres for some songs

All of a sudden, when going through my song library, I'm seeing the genres of some songs changed to something other that what it is supposed to be (or what I have put in). For instance, all of my country songs are in "county" genre. However, some have changed to "country/folk", which I don't like and don't want to use. Some that were in "rock" have been changed to "r&b" or "soul". I use about seven or eight genres, and want to stick with those. I change any songs to the genre I want them under. But tonight about 100 of them were changed to some genre I don't use. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

I had similar problems that included multiple cover art versions. In my case there seemed to be more than one "tag" on the mp3 file. So I selected the track, and used the Control button and then chose the ID3 Tag editing option, changed the tag version to None, then closed it. Then I selected the same track and chose v2.4 (you could choose v2.2 or v2.3, the iTunes default). Then I did Command-I and re-filled in the genre, album artist and other fields. Then I used a free script from dougscripts.com to re-embed the artwork.
That eliminated the "dual identity" problems...(one picture/set of info on an iPod, another one on my Mac).
It also allowed me to erase lyrics that people had embedded in mp3s, which showed up over the cover art on an iPod.
