Random chirping/hiccup sounds during playback?

I have a 5G 60GB Video iPod. While listening to my music on it, it will make random chirping/hiccup sounds through ever song. I know it isn't the song file, because when it first started happening, I'd review back and it wouldn't ever make the sounds in the same part of the song twice.
This never happens while I'm listening to the iPod through i-Tunes, just when it's through earphones and synced in the car. I've tried restoring the iPod several times, searched endlessly online for any similar instances of this happening and can't find anything.
I can't describe the noise any better than a chirp, skip, pop, hiccup...I can't find anything. Any information about getting this problem fixed would be so appreciated!!

Hi, I have the exact same problem... did you find an answer for this? a solution? I was about to buy a new one (6th Gen, Classic) but I then Googled for it and found they have the same problem so upgrading to a new one wont resolve the issue... cant understand why Apple haven't do anything about it.

Welcome to the Apple Community mdez3799
Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
If you are using a sound system/receiver, make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of content? If you use optical you might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

  • Video track randomly glitching and hanging during playback

not sure if this should be here or in the compressor forum, appologies for that....
I am building a fairly simple DVD with the main track being 35 minutes and then the "bonus features" consisting of one track with about 12 chapters and stories for the "play all" button...
Anyways, the extra features seem to play fine but the main track seems to be randomly glitching and/or hanging up during playback...sometimes near the beginning, sometimes near the end, totally different experiences on different DVD players as well as the same player at other times...
Does anyone have any ideas as to where I might begin to diagnose this? I have built many similar DVDs in the past but have not encountered this before and need to be quite confident in the master before we press 10,000 copies!
I have encoded all media in compressor using "90 Minutes Best Quality" setting..

Whoa!!! I'd back up here and make sure you have your "T" s crossed before your continue with 10,000 discs! What were your bitrates for the main track and Bonus features? Did you use AC3 audio? DVD has a bitrate ceilings of 9.8 for video. Its also important you check your bitrates in a viewer to makes sure your OK.
Bitrates are the most crucial part to control in DVD.

  • No sound during playback (but sound effects are working)

Was there a bad incremental update in the last 24 hours? Woke up this morning to find that my 2nd Gen Apple TV has gone mute. But only during playback of videos or music. The clicking sound effect during navigation comes through just fine. Tried this over HDMI and the Digital out, with both a receiver and directly to the tv. Also tried it with multiple apps so it isn't app specific. Hope Apple fixes this soon.

Sorry if I came off a bit testy. I use the Apple TV daily in my work environment for background noise and the issues totally derailed my workflow this morning.
So, I tried adjusting audio settings for both Dolby Digital and Audio Out. No luck.
Last resort time. Hardwired (USB cable) to my laptop and restored via iTunes. Success, audio fuctional across all apps. Not the best of solutions because of the time required to restore accounts for the various 3rd party apps on the Apple TV but it worked.
Guess I will never know what caused the 'no audio" issue though I suspect a bad/failed auto update. As convenient as that new feature is, it doesn't help when things go wrong.
A final note, beta software is supposed to be buggy, I undertstand. Production stuff isn't. I've been a loyal Apple user for 20+ years now because of their quality control. I've used competing products too and felt very annoyed at the lack of QC (looking at you Google TV). I would love to see quicker addressing of bugs on the Apple TV OS because a bad experience is what drives less-technical users away. It is a real game changer device if Apple were to even attempt to give it the level of support that other products get. Anyways, that's my soapbox moment.

  • DivX player - QuickTime - no sound during playback

Trying to play avi files on this MacBook - downloaded QuickTime 7 and DivX player for Mac - both play the video wonderfully but with no sound - My computer is not muted - nor do I have the DivX player muted - playback is fine on the Windows side using GOM player - Would be gratefull for any advice on how to resolve this issue

Are you actually using both programs at once? After putting DivX on any of my machines clicking a file would open it in Quicktime and play just fine, also I saw this today I havent tried it myself but people seem happy with it

  • Weird sound during playback of recorded track

hey guys, how are you all doing?
so i got a new pc rig, which is quite fast, and have started using adobe audition for recording purposes.
    i use a soundblaster audigy 2 soundcard
when i record one track and then play it, theres a weird sound at around 25 seconds which becomes louder and then stops suddenly. it also creates a delay if i'm recording multiple tracks. here's a sound clip of the noise:
    http://www.savefile.com/files/2151778
please tell me how to fix it.
    any help would be appreciated

    Thanks.
I found a solution which works at least between 50 bpm and 177 bpm:
Add a volume fader. Connect the output of the volume fader to the input of the tempo fader and set the input of the tempo fader to volume, then record the volume fader. Moving the volume fader moves also the tempo fader and changes the tempo.
During play back, the volume fader reads the recorded automation data and updates the tempo fader in real-time and the tempo of the song is changed.
For this you don't have to activate tempo recording in the project settings and the possibilities to graphically edit automation data are also better.
Additionally you can add varispeed to set the speed range from 25 - 88,5 bpm up to 100 - 354 bpm.

  • IPod mini has ticking sound during playback

When I play music, some (but not all) songs have a ticking sound. Any idea what I can look at to correct this problem?

Yes, they do, including after updating to iTunes 6.1 or whatever the newest release is. The ticking sound is not audible playing the CD using iTunes, though. The only thing I have been able to think of is that the USB port is not a high-speed port as it is on my son's computer where the ticking sound is not audible with the same music. Any thoughts?

  • IPod touch making odd scratch sounds during playback

Whenever I play music through my iPod Touch (8gb 3rd gen(?)), I get these sparodic scratching sounds. It doesn't matter if I use headphones or speakers, the sound still gets distorted. The only time it doesn't happen is when I use the internal speaker.

Hi guys, i didn't want to creat a new topic, but found this closely related to my question. Could it be that when using non-apple standart 3.5mm jack could damage the audio socket on iPod? if no and yo ucna use any heaphones with standart 3.5mm jack, is it possible to get an official confirmation from apple?
    Thank You!

  • No sound during title playback

hi i'm wondering if sum of you guys could help me out. ive just got my first mac and im very pleased
i am trying to burn 3/4 episodes of a tv show that i have in .avi container, mp4 format, each aprox 350mb in size, to dvd format with the abillity to select which of the 3 episode i would like to watch. i am not fussed about glitz and glamour with regards to menus, just quality audio and video.
i use ffmpgx for single movies
i have previously used vso convertx to dvd with great results on a pc, but is not supported on mac.
i have downloaded a divx component for quicktime, and also have vlc installed
i have tried to burn the episodes using idvd, and all seemed to be going well, having set the preferences to allow for the img size needed. i left the dvd to encode over night and had it set to make an img file.
when i tried playing back the img i had great video quality, but no sound what so ever, and cannot for the life of me figure out why.
    does anybody no the cause?
    to recap,
    avi container-(according to ffmpegx summary, video= mpeg4, yuv420p, 624x352)
    audio= mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 32 kb/s
    burned using idvd
    menu music is present
no sound during playback of titles
    burn setting to x1/2
    taiyo yuden dvd-r disc
    1gb ram
    200+gb hard drive
    2gig intel core 2 duo
    minimal programmes running
on another note, while on a pc i was using a program called gspot for determining the required video and audio codes required and whether or not it would render/play on the system. is there anything similar for mac?
cheers for any and all help
    martyn, a new mac enthusiast

    Hi!
Welcome to the discussions and to Macs!
Don't know about your specifics, but a simple thing to test is to look at the iDVD menu for the titles....I am assuming this is on a submenu....to see if the audio icon is active. If you look in the audio well, there should be a tiny icon with wavy lines. If it is not present, click on the audio well and it should return. It is very small...I almost could not see it.
You cannot see this if you have any audio files in the well, so remove the file first.
I am sure more knowledgeable users will offer their advice as well.

  • Random chirp - coming from system speaker?

Just finished building my first computer, and everything seems to be working fine... except that I am getting a random "chirp" that sounds to me like it's coming from the system speaker (but it could be coming from something/somewhere else).  It seems to happen most within the first 5 minutes of bootup.  I've been running this time for about 1 hour, and it chirped I think 5 times in the first 1/2 hour, but hasn't chirped at all during the last 1/2 hour.
    1)  What could be causing this?
    2)  Should I be concerned about it?
I read a couple of other posts about a similar problem, and they said it might be a power supply issue or some other thing on the MB that you put clear nail polish on???  Sorry, I'm not too knowledgeable in this subject.
I am building this 'puter for my mom-in-law, and will be shipping it off to her -- so I want it to be rock-solid before I send it, since I won't be there to trouble-shoot it for 2 more months if something goes wrong.
    Thanks,
    Blaine

Dude I don't think you saw my other post lol, I changed the setting to 4.1 and I got sound from all but one of the speakers!! But there's still that one speaker..

  • No sound during import from camcorder

When I am importing video from a DV tape in a camcorder I don't hear any sound. After the clip is captured, you can hear the sound during playback. Is there a setting that allows you to hear the sound during import? I have tried importing HDV format from a camcorder and regular DV from a tape deck with the same results.

iMovie does not play sound on import. This makes sense if you consider that most current camcorders do not import in real time. They are faster or slower than real time depending on the speed of the Mac.
See if your camera has a speaker. You can listen from the camcorder.

  • FAQ: Why is there no audio during playback?

    See this troubleshooting document:
"No sound during playback in Adobe Premiere Pro"

Just click the Mute button for just a second, then unmute it by clicking it again. This causes iChat to reassess the connection and that might do the trick.
You need iChat version 3.1.8 (445), AIM 6.1 should be on the PC and your friend needs a built in microphone in this webcam.

  • Static during playback with soundfonts

I'm trying to bring a MIDI file into GarageBand and play it back using various soundfonts. However, when I choose "DLS Music Device" as my tone generator and assign a soundfont, I hear a loud hissing and crackling sound during playback. I only hear this when I'm using a soundfont, not with any of GarageBand's internal sounds.
I've tried several soundfonts, most of which I've used successfully in other applications, but none of them will play consistently in GarageBand without the hissing.
    Any ideas?

It happens even in a brand new project. I have an empty project apart from 1 track with the mic as an input. No plug ins or anything on it. I've tried the same switching the mic for a guitar with no problem. The guitar sounds perfect while playing and in playback but with the mic I can't hear anything when recording and the volume on the fader is very low so I have to normalise the track to hear the vocals are a good level. I've always done this with no issues but now it seems to be bringing out all these horrible noises. I should add that the vocals themselves are perfectly fine with no distorting, only this strange static sound during gaps in speech. Not sure if that narrows it down at all?
Ok the fact that the volume is very low is something to correct first, because that's not right. That mic requires either Phantom power or two AA batteries to function, do you have that provided?   The Mic input gain on the Line-6 Pod is where you raise the recording level.
It might also help if you posted a screen shot of logic's Audio preferences.

  • Sound stops during playback

Running the latest version of CS6 (current on all updates) on a Mac Mini i7 2.3GHz with 16GB RAM running OS X 10.8.2.
Whenever CPU usage starts to get a little heavy, sound will go silent at random times during playback of timeline in the program monitor.  Meters go to zero when sound goes out and go active when sound returns.  Video playback is fine and there are no dropped frames.  This also was happening on my previous machine, a 2008 Mac Pro.  Started happening with CS6 and never happened in CS5.5.
All my source footage is h264 from a Canon 5D.  Sequence was created by doing the 'create sequence from clip' command.  Program monitor resolution is set at 1/4.  Played with setting audio hardware buffersizes to different values but with no change in behavior.

I'm having the same problem on an editing workstation with CS6. The audio will stop playing after 4-5 seconds, video plays fine. The timeline has been rendered. If I hit the stop/pause key, (spacebar), and hit it again, it will play for another 4-5 seconds before the audio drops out. Sometimes only one audio track will stop playing.
Video is 720P, two audio tracks, three video tracks.  System is win 7-64 with an intel I7 extreme CPU, 12 GB RAM (9GB dedicated to Premiere, performance mode)
    Any suggestions?

  • Randomly skips/fails to play some samples during playback?

Randomly skips/fails to play some samples during playback?

You're right that was foolish let me clarify.
Raising the I/O buffer thing is a good idea, i've tried that already though and no joy
BASICALLY i've had this problem with a couple of tracks, ones which i have worked on the longest and probably the ones with the most effect plugins and tracks used. Seemingly at random during playback some of the samples dont play (and some even stop playing halfway through the sample). If the regions are bounced, the resulting wav file visibly splits the original sound where the computer 'decided' to stop/restart playing the sample. Again, i haven't found a pattern: - at one point a four bar loop with three tracks solo'd would play all the tracks perfectly during playback for a few seconds, then suddenly switch to only playing one track, then switch back after another few seconds.
    Weird.
I think it may be related to previous experience which i have had with the Space Designer and Echo effects, where the echo or reverb sound itself cuts out halfway through the sound/after a seemingly random amount of time (and then cuts back in).
I've seen this reverb and effect problem on more than one computer, but the original problem with the track playback is, in my experience, unique to my system.
The computer i'm using is not old or at all running out of memory (although i realise this does not exempt it from being the cause of the problem)
Anyway this has been trolling me for weeks and its driving me mad
    Thanks
