Random clicks when routing standalone synths into Logic via Soundflower

Anyone facing random clicks when re-routing audio from standalone music software into Logic through Cycling '74 Soundflower?
I am testing that with the Vogue Quattro free synth, that can be downloaded here:
http://tinyurl.com/2ucyfem
This is not AU so it requires re-routing. Can you also please mention your processor speed, Mac model and OS version? Trying to find out if this is a performance issue or not.
Tnx.

Ok, from first experiments I'm basically getting the same behaviour you see - MIDI is being routed to Kontakt, and it's playing. If you set Kontakt to use the default system output, it plays fine. But when set to the Soundflower driver, it plays (looking at the meters) but that audio doesn't show up in Logic.
I've tried using an external instrument, using an audio channel in input monitor mode, and an input object, software monitoring is on, and in no cases can I get the Kontakt audio in Logic.
I'm going to try a few things. I've certainly used an aggregate device with Soundflower to pipe audio into Logic in the past (though not in LP8, it was LP7). At the moment I don't know whether it's a Kontakt issue, an aggregate device issue, a Soundflower issue, or a Logic issue.
More in a bit...
Edit: just using Soundflower as the audio device (ie on its own, not as part of an aggregate deivce) the audio does go back into Logic's mixer.
Edit2: Ok, just got it working. AMS and Soundflower is picky about picking up the number of inputs/outputs correctly here. I futzed with it a bit (see my sig) and it's now working.
Edit3: And now it's stopped again. Soundflower has always been a little flaky for me, so perhaps it's general Soundflower flakiness that makes this not a dependable setup. The Soundflower inputs have disappeared from my Aggregate device - seems to be crashing or something. Re-futzing it, re-creating the aggregate device with care so the correct number of inputs show up, and it works again for a while. But it's not at all reliable.
Give Jack a try, and see whether you get more stable behaviour. I used Jack on my old PPC as well, but don't have it installed here to hand...

  • Im loosing the 'punch' when i record beats into Logic.

    Hi.
I record beats into Logic from my MPC which could be the 2 track out or 8 separate outs.
What me and others with the same setup as me are saying is that the beat looses a certain puch and sound to it when we record it into logic. It sounds different playing back in logic than it does on the mpc. The outputs from the mpc go directly into separate channels on my interface and therefore i would think that there would be no difference in sound.
There is a lack of warmth. I dont know whether any of you could offer me any advice or its just a logic audio conversion thing???? Im not sure
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Ben

I and others have also heard this. My opinion is that it's something to do with recording at 24-bit, that makes the sound clearer and wider, but it's not as punchy as a 16-bit recording of the same thing. Unfortunately, this goes against what the entire industry wants us to believe, so I'm not expecting any help with this issue soon since most people will deny it exist.
Try recording your tracks into a small audio app like Peak or Soundforge that allows you to record at 16-bit. (I'm not sure turning off 24-bit recording in Logic does this)...
..then import the 16b tracks into a Logic project (at 44.1 khz), and export to CD....you should notice your "punchy" base is back again.
Sorry I can't help other than to say I, and others, hear it too, and we're all trying to figure out what to do about it.

    Are there two master photo's?

When you import to Aperture using this method you get all the versions that iPhoto has - Mster and Edited  version. If you haven't edited the photo then tow possibilities:

  • Getting phone signal into Logic via M-Audio

To record phone calls on my land line, I got a Radio Shack Recording Control (43-228A), plugged it up, and set it to "Record." I plugged the 3.5mm plug into an adapter for 1/4 inch plug, which went into Input 1 on my M-Audio Fast Track Pro, from which point everything else is set as usual going into my Mac's FW. I made sure I had Input 1 selected, went to record as I spoke on a test call, and -- nothing but a hummmmmm. Just to be sure, I switched from line to mic input, and that didn't affect the hum.
Does anyone know of what details I may have overlooked here to get the phone signal into Logic? FWIW, I also tried with the chintzy little $8 suction-cup on the handset, since it also has a 3.5mm plug. Not even any hum.
I checked the usual suspects of "DUH" carelessness within Logic itself: making sure I matched the input to the M-Audio (tried both 1 and 2 anyhow), level up high, etc.
Also, would anyone recommend other procedures for telephone recording? I'd rather stick with land lines instead of Skype or iChat, since not everyone I'll be calling to interview will have those. Suggestions?
    Thanks,

  • Hooking Up external synth into Logic 9

Hi. Im trying to hook up a Korg R3 synth trhough a Motu Ultralight midi interface and a Presonus Firestudio Audio Interface. Logic recognizes the midi signals. I dont know how to properly hook my synth up to my Audio interface for it to work with Logic. Can anyone help.

With no offense intended: your questions seem to indicate confusion on an extremely basic level that's probably quite beyond the scope of this forum.
It sounds like you need an introduction to basic MIDI, and the differences between MIDI and audio.
    http://www.tweakheadz.com/howto_get_started_withmidi.html
Basically, MIDI is the equivalent of sheet music - it tells the performing instrument which note(s) to play at what time. What the actual audio generated sounds like is of no concern to MIDI - that depends on the instrument used.
The audio is the equivalent of a CD recording of the sheet music being performed. It's a completely different medium, as it were.
Where it gets confusing is in devices that do both, such as the Kaoss pad: you can use it as a MIDI controller to influence the parameters of the synthesizer, AND you can use it to mangle the audio that comes out of the synthesizer (or anywhere else).
You're going to want to hook the Kaoss pad up via MIDI and audio; the trick is using the Presonus Firebox's mixer/routing application to route the incoming/outgoing audio to your monitor system and into the Kaoss pad at the same time (so as to be able to add FX from the Kaoss pad).
The audio routing will probably be easier to setup for an inexperienced user/better to control with an external mixer, though the Presonus is certainly potent enough to get it all done in software. But how to set that up really depends on what exactly you're looking to be doing.
It's easier to fiddle around with cables and a hardware mixer if you're just learning.

  • HI, I am having trouble when importing .wav files into logic.

Everytime I import this .wav file of a DJ set i recorded, it shows me the waveform but no sound comes out when its played. I have tried converting the bitrate to 16bit and the filetype to aiff as I saw it had helped people with similar problems but when i do this its boosts the gain massivly and the recrding becomes very distored? Really dont know what to try??
Also the reason I am trying to get the Wav in was bevause i need to normalise it as it had to be recorded very quitely to avoid distortion on the recording. I recorded it by using the imput on the back of my monitors as they are usb, and th programme i used to record it is "audio recorder tool" from the app store
    Thanks for your help, Joe

I think the problem is you're recorded 32-bit wav files which Logic doesn't support.
(don't convert to aiff, unless you have the right program, that understands converting little endian 32 bit wavs to big endian aiff format, you will get distortion)
I think your best bet is to download "Audacity" the free audio editor and convert to 24-bit WAV files. Re-save the audio file under a different name after converting. In Audacity this is done using the Export function, selecting other non-compressed formats.
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac
The reason you want 24-bit WAVs to work with is you're going to be raising the volume of the file, 24-bit files will suffer less damage when editing with plugins, normalizing...etc.

  • Installing new soft synths into logic pro

i just downloaded a free soft synth, and want to use it on logic, but i dont know how you install it so that it can be used in logic like all the other synths like the ES1 etc. can anybody help?

Or it comes with an installer that will put it in the right place for you (you see Installer or .pkg files, or you have something ending in .component ; you have to drag that to either the *Library/Audio/Plug Ins/Components* or the *Users/'you'/Library/Audio/Plug Ins/Components* folder.
Keep in mind that Logic can only 'see' and use AU plugins, not VST.
    regards, Erik.

    Hi,
When my iphone is plugged into my mac I can only view the songs on it in a list.  I sync my music manually so I can add or delete a song with ease.  I can view the songs on the mac in list, cover flow etc but when I look on the iphone within itunes, these options are all greyed out and I can only see the songs in a list.  I have nearly 500 songs on it at the moment and it is hard to easily see which albums are on the iphone.  Any help gratefully received!

Unfortunately, you cannot change the view of your audio tracks.

    Please help me.
    I'm a beginner of Logic.
Can someone tell me how to record the sound that I want to record
    into the MIDI track??
When I click on the first track with the grand piano picture, and then play my keyboard, I dont hear
grand piano but string sound. And when i play 3rd tack (fingered bass picture) i hear different patch from my keyboard. Can someone tell me how to
lock up right bank and patches with logic?
This is so confusing. Someone told me I need to download the patch list of my keyboard to make it show up in logic the same way it's showing up in my keyboard. Without it, I'd have to type every patch list of my synth into logic bank and prgram names. How do you guys deal with this?
PLease help me. This is haunting me for a week now..
    One more question..
When I press record with metronum on, I hear metronum AND some other

  • Recording Streaming Audio Directly into Logic 8?

Is it possible to record streaming audio directly into Logic 8. I would like to grab some sound bites from web sites and various other places and lay them down as Audio tracks in Logic 8.
I know WireTap Pro will do it for $30 but I wonder if I could just do it in Logic.
Again, thank you for your time.

    Bee Jay wrote:
Or you could also use the loopback trick and just plug your interface's outputs >into it's inputs - be careful of your routing to avoid feedback though...
Hi Bee Jay .. I wonder if you would mind advising on this setup:
Normally I hear everything that comes out of the computer via the following route:
Out of computer via Firewire and into Motu828
Then out of Motu 828 and into Mixer channels 1 & 2 which are set to Monitor only. ie I hear all audio ( including streaming audio from computer) through my monitor speakers and the signal does not go back into Logic.
All the other mixer channels (3 - 16) I use for recording. Mics and line inputs routing these back into the MOTU (and then the computer) by buttons on the individual channel of the mixer. ie If the button is up on a particular mixer channel it comes out the speakers and does not record in Logic. If the button is down then that channel records into Logic (via a loom into the MOTU).
I was warned on no account to press the buttons down on channels 1 & 2 ( because those were the main outs to monitor Logic's signal ) ...
But that if I *switched off the channel output in Logic channel strip* - then I could press down those buttons on Channel 1 and 2 and route whatever audio was coming out of the computer ( iTunes, You Tube etc) back into Logic to record.
I did this some time ago and it worked ... but for some reason, now even though I have the Logic Channel outputs switched off, I still get the most horrendous howling feedback if I try to record Streaming Audio or iTunes.
If you or anyone else has advice on what would be causing this, I would be most grateful

  • Authorization Check when logon into SAP via ITS

    Hello
We have implemented Authorization Check after user have logged on to SAP via ITS in this User Exit SUSR0001. It was working fine in 46C version, but after upgrade to ERP 2005, when user logs on into SAP via ITS, this user exits is ignored, while logging normally via SAP GUI; authorization check is performed as before?
Did anyone else have experienced the same problem?

From what I understand something on that line changed.  We are still hanging on to our external ITS 6.20 so I am afraid I can not go into details.

  • Routing Quicktime synth audio into Logic

Does anybody know how to route the Quicktime synthesizer's built in GM sound module's audio output back into Logic so it can be included in a bounce down mix ?

Sure, first open Jackrouter from your application folder or drag it into your dock.
Hit the start button. Open Logic and chose Jack router as your device. Open the application you want to route into Logic (like Quicktime/iTunes whatever) and select Jack Router as Standard Input/Output in the Audio Midi setup of your Mac. Back in Jackrouter hit the routing button - menue opens. On the left there are the send port, so in my screenshot example I have chosen Kontakt 3 standalone to be routed into Logic but it could be Quick Time/itunes whatever. I selected Jack Router as the output device in Kontakt as well, now I click on K3 in the send port section and on the right I double click on Logic as the receive ports, the Logic letters turn red to indicate that a connection was made.
If you connect the Logic send ports to the system receive ports and activate software monitoring you will hear what you record into Logic through Jack Router. So I think this little app is very useful in many situations.

  • Using an external synth, want to route audio visibly in logic

    Hey
So - in the early days of logic 5.5 i distinctly remembering that i had external synths, which i routed through logic, so that i could 1) Pick a midichannel that gave me the corresponding channel on the synth (like part 1), and 2) I could see a visible fader, with the EXACT same look and options on it, as any normal audio channel. Ie. i could put plugins on it, and so on.
however, ive gotten a Waldorf Blofeld af my first external synth, for use with my logic pro 8, and while i can play it using a midi keyboard, and i can see a channel for it, then the channel that it creates, is sort of a fader, with only pan settings, and rev + chorus. Ie. i cant record it, i cant use plugins on it. Furthermore ( but this may be a problem with a setting on my soundcard ? (a motu 828mkII if anyone happens to know how to fix it ) when i pan the reverb it doesnt pan at all, the sound stays in stereo. The volume fader however works fine.
So my question is: Can someone - please- explain to me, how to set it up "fully". Meaning a guide to creating the multi instrument ( as im guessing it should be ) and linking that to an audio channel in my environment, which i can then record, and use plugins on?
I sincerely hope for a fast and hopefully correct answer as this has been bugging me for two days now. Ive read alot of stuff in the manual, but cant figure it out.

You distinctly remember wrong (or at least, you're forgetting how you did it). A MIDI track has a MIDI channel strip, an audio object has an audio chanel strip that passes audio and can have audio plugins on it. You can't have one MIDI track with audio processing, as MIDI has nothing whatsoever to do with audio.)
What you probably did before is had a MIDI track feeding your MIDI instrument, but then had it's audio coming back into your audio interface and coming up in the mixer in realtime using an "Input" audio object.
however, ive gotten a Waldorf Blofeld af my first external synth, for use with
my logic pro 8, and while i can play it using a midi keyboard, and i can see

Yes, that's a channel strip for MIDI instruments - nothing to do with audio, it sends MIDI volume, pan and other GM messages over MIDI to control remote MIDI devices.
So my question is: Can someone - please- explain to me, how to set it up "fully".
Meaning a guide to creating the multi instrument ( as im guessing it should be )

If you specifically need multitimbral output, then you should create a multi instrument in the environment, set up to the MIDI ports/channel, and create arrange tracks for each of the (up to) 16 parts.
(The External Instrument plugin isn't much good for multitimbral or multioutput instruments).
That handles the MIDI side. Now, you want to bring that instrument's audio back into Logic's mixer, so plug the audio into your audio interface, either in stereo, or more channels if you have them to spare. Then you can either create Audio Input objects, or use regular audio tracks in input monitor mode, to add the audio coming in from the instrument in realtime to the mix, where you can also process with plugins etc.
Note that you won't be able to offline bounce with real instruments, as Logic can't speed up the universe to faster than realtime...
