Random Commercial Interruptions

Does anyone else get random commercial interruptions? What will happen is that a show is in progress (maybe a person is in the middle of a line) and a local commercial breaks in. A minute later, when the show resumes, it's clear that the show has been proceeding ahead & I haven't see things.
It's really annoying now that the baseball playoffs are on. I've missed entire at bats with these mid-inning commercial breaks.
When I talk to my non-FiOS TV neighbors, they're NOT seeing these commercials.
C'mon Verizon!

I have a friend that reported the issue before, it seems to happen on TBS because of when they have their comercial breaks, verizon forgets to set those comercials for the extra 5 minute mark.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow Apple Support's instructions to remove it.
If you have trouble following those instructions, see below.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

    Hello Achates:
I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

  • Voice Over Wifi Issue: random service interruption

    Hello,
I have implemented a Voice over Wifi solution based on WLC 4404, AIR-LAP 1131G and CP-7921G. The Security mode deployed is WPA PSK. I have a random interruption on wireless access witch cause the CP 7921G to lose connectivity to the CUCM, even if the Phone is near to the AP and does not move. What can be the cause of the problem. Thank you in advance.
    Best Regards
    Houichi Nizar

    Hi,
we are experiencing the same issues.
The VoWifi design guides (i.e. TPC, DCA, Media, EDCA, WMM, QoS) have been followed setting up the Controllers.
    Tested WLC4402 / WLC4404 with firmware versions 4.2.207 and 7.0.116.
Experiencing the issues on 7921G (firmware 1.3.4SR1) and 7925G phones (firmware 1.3.4SR2 and 1.4.1SR1).
The access points used are 1242G with a mix of AIR-ANT1728 and AIR-ANT24020V-R diversity antennas.
It is a warehouse environment. Phones are very near to access points.
We only use 802.11b/g for wireless phones and data clients.
The only issue I found is the cell size which is small and AP transmit power is low.
Auto RF and Auto DCA is enabled. AP power levels are 5, 6 or even 7 in areas with a lot of access points.
We have a high density b/g clients on some areas in the warehouse and added some access points to seperate the AP load.
    Kind regards,
    Rob Vreede.

  • Adobe Media Encoder - Random Coding Interrupts?

Greetings all - I've been a long time reader to this forum and thought I would bring a recent issue to the brilliant guys that Adobe seems to attract.
    First the details:
    Win 7 64bit
    AMD Athlon X2 250
    ATI Radeon 5770 (1GB GDDR5)
    3 gig RAM
Standard issue WD hard drives, 7200RPM
Masters Suite CS4 (yes, its legal)
All the latest updates downloaded and installed as of 3/13/10
    Project details:
Shot in 60i, training films, very cut and dry. Using Magic Bullet color correction, no other third party programs. All project files housed on a Western Digital external eSata drive, brand spankin new.
Timelines are done, and I am exporting to Adobe Media Encoder, using the presets MPEG-2 DVD and NTSC Prog Widescreen. I hit Start Queue, and things fire right up. At a seemingly random time, the coding just STOPS. No errors, no nothing. It just stops. I open a Windows Explorer window to verify that the drive is still available, and it is - I can play video off of it. AME doesn't crash, either - I can still select menu options, etc. Occasionally I get this error, but not all the time:
    - Source File: C:\Users\REDROO~1\AppData\Local\Temp\(removed) BOH_33.prproj
    - Output File: I:\(removed)\Renders\Chapter 6a_1.m2v
    - Preset Used: NTSC Widescreen High Quality
    - Video: NTSC, 720x480, 29.97 drop frame [fps], Lower, Quality 4.0
    - Audio: 48 kHz, 16 bit, Stereo, PCM
    - Bitrate: VBR, 1 Pass, Min 1.50, Target 4.00, Max 7.00 [Mbps]
    - Encoding Time: 00:40:39
    3/12/2010 12:16:31 PM : Encoding Failed
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
My RAM does seem to be pretty maxed, and occasionally Windows alerts me that I have low memory available, but this should not be too much of an issue, correct?
I'm on a tight deadline (like most professionals) and have other projects waiting, but I'm seriously STUCK. Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Josh
    Red Root Pro
"Pools are great for holdin water..."

I do have a 64 bit OS - Win 7. The RAM does provide a noticable difference in performance - things are much more "snappy" now, which I'm enjoying, but hasn't eliminated my problem.
The encoder does not stop at the same point, it seems to be quite random. I can view the files that I've exported (up until the point they cut off) and there's nothing going on in the clip that would be any sort of red flag - in other words, it is not stopping the coding at a point where a new color correction or title is being introduced, it had all happened previously. This is my first large project on CS4, and I don't have anything else to export at the moment!
I'm not running premiere in multi-monitor mode: I've got a 24" widescreen monitor that is my sole monitor.
I have COMBED the interwebs trying to find a resolution to this issue, and I am no where... I'm currently installing CS4 on a XP machine that I have that is pretty robust, and am going to try encoding on that, just to see if I get a different result.
Any suggestions at all would be MOST appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Commercial Interruption, Arg!

I am also experiencing problems with local standard def commercials cutting out tv show material.  I DVR'd Necessary Roughness (Weds 8 pm ET) and Suits (Thurs 10 pm ET) on USA Network.  Both had 2-3 annoying commercials cut in during the TV show and then cut back to the show like nothing ever happened.  So glad I get to watch these shows in piecemeal.

  • Yosemite random reboots on macbook mid 2012

Well I've read thoroughly all the posts related to this kind of issue and it seems it affects a wide range of devices. Either mac minis or 2011 macbooks and so on.
I would like to explain my experience and ask for any advice available. I am experienced with computers and OS's, even though I would not call myself an expert, but as an engineer I possess a certain amount of knowledge. So there it goes.
    TL;DR at the bottom
Macbook pro mid 2012 13". Default 4gb memory installed, I added a Samsung EVO 830 SSD in 2012 when I bought it, never had any problems with it.
After a couple of weeks after upgrading to yosemite (november '14) I started noticing the macbook resting on login screen after a reboot. No crash report, no message visible of any reason. As I was installing some special software to do some work related to a lab I was working at the time, I thought it was software related. MS Word and Excel often crashed and I had a couple of problems with other programs. Then it started doing it while I was working, so I decided to check things out. The system freezed for some seconds - 1-2 minutes and proceeded to reboot. Sometimes a hard reset had to be performed.
I decided to perform different installations with different options in order to identify the problem:
Reinstall Yosemite from recovery mode: same result, random reboot, no specific app in use, either Xcode, Safari, or just resting idle with just finder.
Format disk and install yosemite applying time machine backup: same result, random reboot, no specific app, and so on.
Format disk and clean install, manually installing the same main software installed previously: same result, random freezes and reboots.
Format disk and clean install, manually installing essential apps (mac app store only): same result, exactly the same result.
Always with the latest OS version available, and with TRIM enabled and disabled, to discard issues with it. PRAM and SMC resets all along.
During all the testing, the console has not shown any crash report or kernel panic related to the event. After every reboot, console would not show anything special before the boot_time line.
After looking for solutions on different forums, I noticed a pattern on some cases that implied a wake on lan or a handoff, or wifi issue. I tested on different networks, disabled and enabled all options commented, with no effect.
    Entering
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CSeq 'n Cause: -' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}'
on terminal 90% of the time returned errors -128, and some -112 or -2, but they would not be logged to every freeze, just some of them. By the time the
As they may indicate a hardware error, I decided to proceed with the warranty.I bought the Applecare extension when I bought the computer (expiring this summer) so I talked to Applecare about the issue. As there is not an official Apple Store in my town they pointed me to an ASP in my city. They noted all the issues I commented above, gave me a case number to deliver to the ASP so they would have all the information.
I brought the computer to the ASP, gave them the case number (which they totally ignored, the employee seemed oblivious to what a "case number" was) and expected them to find the error. As I noticed the freeze could be sometimes forced via waking up the laptop, I made them a demo. I had ran already the apple hardware test and any hardware tests I was aware of. Etrecheck came out without issues or anything worth mentioning, so I thought they might have specific apple tools to identify hardware error.
They told me they could not find any error on the computer, but that they found errors in the SSD, swapped it with one of theirs to test and no issues found. Good, I thought, at least they found the issue even though all tests run on the SSD by me did not show any trace of it. They charged me 25€ for the service as the SSD was not part of the original computer. As I had been experiencing issues for some time I did not care. I asked them for some kind of report to check the error to provide to the SSD manufacturer, Samsung, as they offer 3-year warranty on SSD's and it had not yet expired. The report said "errors in disk", plain and simple, I asked to talk to the technician for extra info, but he could not remember if it was "corrupted sectors" or something else.
Contacted Samsung, sent my SSD in, and in 4 days I had a new (refurb maybe) SSD same model same size at my door. During those 4 days I reinstalled my old  original HDD. As it had a few miles on it (using it as external disk) it was really slow and sometimes it would freeze but the whole system was always dragging, so it could be also failing. Worth mentioning that when swapping disks I noticed the ASP had messed up the position of the small screws on the back of the computer. They did not seem to know there are 4 shouldered screws and 3 regular ones.
I put the new or refurb SSD in, clean install and do some testings. First day everything ok. Proceed to install software. Seems ok. After a couple of days the first freeze and reboot appears. After a couple of PRAM and SMC zaps, events seem to be reduced to a minimum. Even though the system is not completely stable, and I am not quite satisfied with the uncertainty of the freezes (in the middle of a presentation is not the best moment to have one), as it's freezing 1-3 times per week I consider it reasonable.
Time goes on, freezes start to appear again. Sometimes while booting, sometimes on login screen, sometimes on heavy usage sometimes on idle. I still follow all threads related to similar issues, in case a fix appears. All sleep / wake / wifi on - off on sleep tests have been performed.
Now the issue seems to be reduced to two kind of events: random freezes and reboots, and errors while booting. None, and I mean zero of the reboots or freezes has ever had a .crash or any system diagnostic reports related to the hour or even date when the freezes took place. EVER.
While booting, it crashes and I have to hard reset 2-3 times. When freezing, 30% of the time it does not reboot, and gets warmer than idle state but cooler than under heavy load.
I usually zap pram and smc and then it boots normally. But I should not have to be doing that every time I turn it on.
I know its a long post, but it's something I have been following for 5 months now. It's not that I am unaware of different options to solve it. Zapping seems to be the way to go, but still the random freezes interrupt workflow and provoke loss of data.
TL;DR: same freeze and reboots as other people. No discrete GPU to relate it to. Default memory installed, SSD model working on 10.8 and 10.9 with zero issues. All software installation combinations tested. ZERO crash reports on console related to the hour or date of the events. Shutdown causes negative codes, ASP cannot find the issue.
Considering bringing it to Genius Bar, but undermines the purpose of a ASP and if they got the same tools they will not find the issue either.
Appelcare expires in June. Any options I am unaware of? I would relate it to the specific model of SSD under Yosemite if I was the only one experiencing freezes and reboots, which I am not.
    Thanks you

Boot into Safe Mode. If the problem ceases then you need to remove Virtual Box and the software that installed com.bluecoat.kext.bckd 4.4.1f20. If this does not fix the problem then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Why when I hold spacebar+mouse click to pan my drawing, Illustrator crashes randomly?

I use alt+scroll-wheel to zoom in and out - and hold space bar+click to pan my drawings often as they are really efficient.  However, I find that when I hold the spacebar and click+drag to pan, Illustrator will randomly crash.  It is truly random...let's say every 62 times I pan my drawings this way, it will crash - I save quite often, but no matter what I lose some work as it is random and interrupts my flow and it's very frustrating.  I'm not doing any sort of sticky keys-type-of thing by pressing anything repeatedly or even pressing any other keys for that matter.
I have tried looking on the internet several times for anyone else who has this issue and cannot find another case.  So I ask:
Has anyone else had this issue?  Or am i insane and not realizing what I am doing?
Much appreciated if at least one person acknowledges what I am dealing with. LOL Thanks,

Which system, which version, which hardware?
Have you tried a different mouse?

  • Random commercials playing while asleep

So my iMac is connected to my tv due to a broken monitor and while watching tv my iMac plays a commercial I'm guessing from the spotify app during sleep mode

This is not something new to longtime subscribers, nor is it unique to VZ. You will find the same concern about commercial interruptions for almost every provider. The short answer seems to lie with how all the automated computer routines signal each other with embedded signals whenever a designated time slot is available for commercial insertion. Frequently, things get out of synch for a few seconds here and there, and you miss the first 5 seconds or so following a commercial break. Here's another thread dealing with the topic:

  • How to remove the Google Redirect Virus on my gf's pc? Nothing seems to work!

    Hi Guys,
So I was trying to save my girlfriend's pc from this Google Redirect Virus (the one where you are redirected to some random commercial site when you click on a link in google), but I am having real trouble. Of course I want to solve this and be her hero, so could someone please give me some advice?
I've tried everything. The TDSS-killer, the changing of the host file, I've downloaded several anti-malware or spyware programmes, but nothing helps. I can recommend everybody with this problem to download the NoScript Add-On, so that at least you don't really go to the commercial website, but are redirected (after being redirected) back to google.
    This is what I know:
    - When I tried to solve something in MSConfig, I noticed that there where two weird programmes that started when I turned on her pc: the first is (the virus!) SetWallpaper.cmd. I can't seem to find this anywhere else on her pc and I do not know if it is connected, but I need to destroy it somehow. The second is some process called: 'fyhgylwg', and it's task is to 'rundll32 C:\User\GF'sName\Roaming\winsta8.dll, Clxeigube'. The reason this caught my attention is because the task isn't sent by Microsoft, but by 'Unkown' and I found it's name really weird.
    - No anti-virus programme seems to solve the problem
    - I haven't tried Combo-Fix yet, because I do not know the name of the file that is causing the problem
Please help me and my girlfriend out! What can we do?

  • Lost connection to mobileme galerie

Today suddenly iphoto lost on one album the connection to mobileme galerie. The content is still on the web, but the ( sync ) folder in iphoto is empty. If i drag a new photo/movie , actually this folder contains movies, to the folder it will upload to the galerie - thats fair enough - but afterwards the folder in iphoto is ( again ) empty. Anyone else experience the same thing ?

I got in touch with Apple - for about an hour. Despite the Support team not admitting to anything at this stage, it came across to me very clearly, that the MobileMe IT does not cope very well with any combination of these scenarios:
    - poor or random bandwidth
    - interruptions in the connection.
    - large quantities of data in combination with the above two points
I had the opportunity to re-upload a large set of photos from a higher capacity broadband connection. Result: no problems.
The fundamental technical issue, in particular for those with poorer broadband connections: The software & the MobileMe service do sometimes fail to stay connected and more fatally the software somehow loses the URL of the gallery.
The fundamental functional/managerial issue: Neither the desktop software nor the MobileMe web service make the user aware of what happened and fix the problem. SO IT’S GUESSWORK FOR THOSE AFFECTED.
Coming back to the Apple Support, I guess they will ultimately understand and fix the issue. However the process to get to this point appears to be long-winded, as there are many procedures and a lot of communication involved until the message finally reaches those, who understand and manage this product.
In the meantime the best bet is to only use broadband with high capacity uplink, if large sets of data (photos, videos) ought to be uploaded.

  • Several WRT54G Problems

    I have a WRT54G V8 Firmware Version: v8.00.0, Jan. 16, 2007
I have several problems with it
First: when using it as DNS (ie a computer behind it sets it to be their DNS - 192.168.0.1 (yes that is it's correct IP, yes I realize the default is 192.168.1.1 IIRC)) sometimes sites will not DNS - they will time out. If a site times out, it will always time out, sites that do not time out never time out.
If I set the computers behind it to use the DNS servers Qwests DHCP server gives my WRT54G those sites DNS just fine.
Second Problem: The WRT54G randomly reboots, interrupting connectivity in the most obnoxious ways.

reflash the firmware. .. reset the router for 30 seconds and reconfigure it ...

  • Apple tv, Youtube and CBS full episodes.

So Youtube recently announced that it has partnered with CBS to start showing full episodes of a few shows as a trial, to see if there is a market.
It's sort of the same situation as Hulu offers; You have two or three ticks in the show where it makes you watch a commercial and you can not fast forward through them. As someone who has Hulu access high on his wish list for Apple Tv. (I purchase plenty of shows through iTunes too. I just wish there was an alternative for times where I just want a show in the background and for that 1.99 just isn't worth it but an old episode of the A-Team with 3 or 4 commercials is. Like many others, if I had the option for both purchased shows with zero commercials and free shows with mandatory commercials, I would cancel my cable subscription.)
Anyway, I wanted to see if anyone has had any luck with being able to access these "Full Episodes" from the Youtube app on their Apple Tv's or if they've heard any information regarding this working in the future.
    Regards
    -Neen

I had the same idea. I've already canceled my cable (as low as I can anyway.) I've been watching via my macbook for months now and it's great. I had a very busy September and missed the opening weeks of every show. But with my MacBook I was able to convert the DVI to HDMI and display all the sites on my 61" TV. IMDB has made my job of finding shows much easier in finding episodes and watching them in proper order.
My complaint was that even though I was watching Hulu in full screen and it was awesome with minimal commercial interruption, I had to keep getting up to load the next episode. But maybe it's good to stretch your legs once an hour. If AppleTV would become a portal or delivery mechanism for Hulu and Joost like it is for YouTube, it would make those sites much more viable. Additionally, they might be able to integrate with iTunes whereas if you just saw a hilarious episode of Family Guy and you just had to own it, you could click a button and buy it from iTunes.
Shows I've caught up on using my MacBook:
    The Unit (from IMDB, CBS.com)
    Heroes (from IMDB, Hulu)
    Bones (from Hulu)
House (from Hulu and "not Hulu" for last season I missed)
    Dexter (not CBS.com)
    Weeds (not CBS.com)
    The Office (from Hulu)
    Family Guy (from Hulu)
    Daily Show (from Hulu)
    Colbert Report (from Hulu)
and now I'll get to watch "My Own Worst Enemy" which looks awesome.
I buy LOST on iTunes cause of my obsession with it, but I know you can watch any ABC shows on ABC.com.
