Random connection loss

Hi:
I have a WRT54G v5 router that I use only for its hardware firewall with my standalone desktop PC. I am losing internet access every few hours, even though all the LED's on my cablemodem and router remain green. I invariably have no connection when I first turn on the PC, although a warm reboot does not lose the connection. The only way to re-establish my connection is to release/renew DHCP. I have the latest firmware offered at the Canada website (1.00.9). A router reset, and power-cycling both the modem and the router hasn't helped. I'm not a gamer, and my connection speeds are good.
I'm not very savvy about routers, but suspect that some setting isn't right. Any advice would be much appreciated.
EDIT: Don't know if this helps, but the Tweak Test over at dslreports seems ok:

Thanks, Carrot:
Are you sure it is safe for me to use the firmware v1.01.1 from the US site? I bought this router in Canada, and the US download site says:
"Downloads are for US products only.
If you have purchased a product in another country/region please go to that
country/region's website for the correct product download."
The Linksys Canada download site does not offer FW 1.01.1
Meanwhile, I got TCP Optimizer, and reset the MTU as it advised to 1500. I will report back in a day or so, if this has helped.

  • E3000 random connection loss

Hi all!  I have an E3000 router that is hooked up to a modem through a cable ISP (Bright House) that also supplies my home phone (don't know if that matters). I have two wired computers and two to four wireless items (computer, game box, cell phones).  I have had the router for about 4-6 months and have just started getting these connection problems.  It will randomly lose the connection for both wired and wireless systems.  Sometimes it will fix itself and others I have to hard reboot the router.  I have connected one of the computers directly to the modem and found that there were no connection issues at that time.
Are there some setup tweaks that I can change that will possibly eliminate the connection problem? I am out of the window to return this item and, with the price, I don't just want to cut my losses (pun intended).
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Lena

Upgrade the router's firmware. If it has the latest, then reset the router and reconfigure it from scratch.

  • FTDI virtual com port driver (VCP) and Labview 2009 - random connection loss

    Hi,
I am using an FTDI chip to go from USB to serial communication (FTDI Driver: 2.06.00). It seems to work at first but then after some time the connection gets lost ("connection for the given session has been lost" or "I/O error"). This happens in MAX as well as the built executable of the program I am running. Latest VISA drivers are installed - 4.6.  I have tried flushing the buffer before and after communication with both visa clear and visa buffer flush vis. The lost connection seems to happen randomly.
I have seen other threads about this issue but they never reach a resolution. One thing i notice is that there are two FTDI devices in this system and only one fails, however when I unplug the working device the one that fails is able to connect again.
To sum up here are the system specs:
    Windows XP SP3
FTDI 2.06.00 and older 2.04.02 drivers both fail.
2 FTDI devices on the system - they do get assigned different COM ports
    Labview 2009 run-time
    VISA 4.6 run-time
    Thanks for any help.

We use Targus ACH63US Super Mini USB 2.0 4-Port Hub. It doesn't require external power but if you have a high power device you will have to plug the Targus hub into two usb ports on your pc (one provides power and the other does power and data transfer). They provide the usb Y cable to do this.

  • Windows server 2012 and windows xp remote desktop connection loss

I am having this problem for a month now, and i am stumped with trying to find an answer . I have talked with several network admins in my area and with no luck i have not found a solution. I have a windows server 2012 placed with 5 pcs that are connected
on a local network , those 5 pc's connect to the server via remote desktop. List of pc's:
    1x Windows 7
    4x Windows XP SP3
All have the latests network drivers, all have the latest version of remote desktop installed. All have been scanned for viruses. All have antivirus software.
Problem is the 4 XP machines lose connection on when connected via remote desktop. If one starts losing connection the other 3 start to lose the connection aswell. The windows 7 machine is not affected by this it works fine.
    What have I tried:
    Scanning for viruses.
    Disabling Firewall and antivirus software.
    Updating all drivers.
Did many changes to group policy like keepalives etc.
    Turning off SMBv2 SMBv3.
Turning off network adapter Offload settings.
Changed some registry settings like keepalive, smb etc.
Updating every pc and server with all windows updates.
    Changed the router and switch.
Port forwarded needed ports like 3389.
    Updating remote desktop to 7.0.
I might be forgetting some stuff i will add as i remember anything.
So the thing is this. I use a Windows XP machine from my office I remotely connect to the server via the Internet and I DO NOT experience any connection loss. BUT the XP machines on the local network constantly experience connection loss via remote desktop.
I pinged every Machine from the server via CMD command PING. So when they lose connection the Packets get time outs . Packets get dropped between 1-10 packets when a connection is lost. This packet drop does not occur when using the internet or anything else.
ONLY when connected to the server via remote desktop. The packets get dropped at random intervals.
Problem is I use an XP machine and I am not experiencing any loss of connection , while the XP machines on the local network experience it , but not the windows 7 machine.
Router is ASUS RT-N53 , and switch is Dlink DES-1008D. Server is a Dell PowerEdge T110 II.
Can someone please tell me what can i do to solve this problem?

So today got some word from their office. They were using RDP from 8AM until 12PM all was working fine. Then got back after lunch about 1PM and got a few connection lost errors when they tried using RDP again. Its weird since they didn't have disconnects
in the morning, and started having them after lunch.
Also noticed, that two pc were not using RDP and were disconnected as shown in task manager. And they still got request timeouts.
Maybe this is not a remote desktop issue?

  • I'm having strange random connection failures. Are there ineffieciency in my config?

I've been having strange, random connection failures and I'm trying to eliminate possible causes.
What happens is while I'm browsing on the net over wifi, a link will at random not connect to the site, but instead fault to the ISP error page. It happens with highly reliable sites like google, or ebay, or whatever. If I direct connect to the cable modem, the problem site is immediately available.
I'm sitting <6 feet from a 871W router (with antenna). There's one router in my building and others are at my neighbors.
Below is the conf file. Just to imagine how rediculious this problem is, here's a screen shot from a web page. This shows a web page I visited, and after clicking on a link (an embedded youtube video), the error showed up within the page itself.
Why would only some URLs fail to connect? Is there inefficiencies in my config?

I removed the ip router 0 0 to no great effect, which I consider to be a win.
I'm guessing that since overload is what--I understand--translates the one outside to the many inside IPs, that the suggestion to have only one overload configured means I should combine the two ip ranges into one.
I deleted 10.0.0.0 network. Changed the bridge references to 1 and vlan references to 1. Now wifi and ethernet should all be using the same internal network? That's the idea, right? Any more fat?

  • Connection loss SUM GUI to SL Controller

    Hi experts,
I am experiencing an issue that I need to resolve. It is that I lose the connection from SUM GUI (locally) to the SL Controller running on the remote server.
Currently I am doing an upgrade and after some time, e.g. when I have an error and don't notice it immediately, I get a warning message.
"The connection to the SL Controller is down.
The SDT GUI will reestablish the connection, when possible."
On the server I get the following error message:

My current assumption is that the firewall drops the connection due to inactivity.
    The main issue then is:
although I restart my local SUM GUI and reconnect to the server I can't continue the upgrade because the Buttons are "unclickable" (grey).
Currently I always had to restart SUM including the services on ther server (SL controller).
    My question is:
what can I do to avoid this connection loss?
Is there a option to set a "keep alive" to the network connection?
so that the firewall does not validate the connection as idle and drops?
Unfortunately we can't do much about the firewall settings due to security restrictions.
I would be glad to hear from you.
    Kind regards,
    Niklas

    Hi Mathias,
I got an answer from SAP. There is no option that can be executed with STARTUP to solve this.
I already proposed to forward this request to the dev team at SAP
What I am currently doing is:
Start the GUI and keep it open only if I know if there is are Actions coming next, otherwise I close it (only the GUI) and when some time has passed by I logon again to check.
This is a really bad solution, but currently the only one.
    Regards,
    Niklas

  • Why do I have Intermittent Wifi Connection Loss during music streaming ?

    Hello,
I have an ipad3 and an iPhone 4S and I am getting with both devices interruption of the sound when I send music to the Apple TV. It generally happens after a few minutes. The signal for the wifi is still good and I have still access to the Internet  I have tried all the recommendations of the article "iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections" but this did not help. I have used several applications for sending music to the Apple TV (music application from Apple and DSAudio from Synology) but I'm getting the same issue. I have also the same issue with the media center application from Bouygues Telecom connecting directly to my internet router. My router is a bbox sensation. I had also the same kind of issue with my old router when sensing photo albums to the internet: I had the error message "your system is running low on ressources". How can I solve these intermittent wifi connection losses ?

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Since I upgraded to Moutain Lion I'm dealing with wifi problems : no connection or random connection

Since I upgraded to Moutain Lion I'm dealing with wifi problems : no connection or random connection. With  OS X Lion wifi was OK.

So, Darrall, it seems to be fixed.  Mind you, this has happened through a seemingly unrelated, but hopefully replicable sequence of events.  You be the judge.
I went to my other login account, which as it happens is also an admin account.  Voila, the secondary click worked fine.  So I returned to my primary account, where I did the following:
First, I unpaired the trackpad.  then I remembered I needed something to move the mouse with, so I re-paired the magic mouse I'd had before.  I thought I'd turned off the trackpad, but apparently not, so the computer re-paired it automatically. None of this had any immediate effect, as you'd imagine.
Then I went to Mission Control in Preferences. There, I deselected "Show dashboard as a space", and in the hotcorners, I deselected Mission Control from the bottom left, where it had been. I didn't replace it.
Now, my secondary click works. Uh huh. I was suspicious that it might have more to do with Mission Control and/or Dashboard than the trackpad, only because I'd beaten that horse till my arm hurt and this was all I could think of.
Never did I imagine this would get fixed short of creating a new login account and somehow copying everything - since I didn't know what was wrong, I could easily have copied the error too - so I'm very pleased and relieved.  If you haven't fixed yours yet, try this.  Let me know what happens!

  • Connectivity loss between PLC and Kepware

    Hi Experts,
I m working on SAP PCo and PLC connectivity using Kepware.
I m trying to find out ways to find connectivity loss between
    1) PLC and kepware
    2) kepware and PCo
For 2nd approch,if connectivity loss is there then PCo instance will go in error state and using remote monitoring we can get alert.
But m not able to find any way for 1st approch.
If PLC connection lost then only tag quality in kepware is bad.
Is there any way in PCo expression editor to check tag quality so that i can trigger MII transaction?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Neha

To add to Hubrisnsx's comment ... are you provisioned Ethernet or MoCA for the WAN connection?
Edit: Never mind, I see in the first post you said MoCA.   So, if the MoCA channel is staying up, then it sounds like it might be something inside the ONT.
Keep in mind that while some Verizon folks do drop by these forums from time to time, that this is primarily are user to user forum where customers can help one another.

  • Calendar Crashes on connection loss.

Does anyone know why oracle calendar crashes when the connection to the calendar server is lost. This happens for both Mac and Windows. I am using calendar version 9.0.4.2

after much work I have discovered that this is due to power settings on the mac. if you don't turn off the hardrive it seems to work better. This however doesn't explain the corruption issues due to connection loss.

  • Trying to detect connection loss

I have built a little telnet program which is specialized for a specific telnet supporting server... Everything works just fine except for detecting connection loss...
I am connected to the server using java.net.Socket, data is sent using java.io.PrintStream and data is received using java.io.InputStream...
I have tried having a thread running and looking if the Socket was still connected, but even after closing the server, the Socket keeps returning true when I call Socket.isConnected()... How could I detect the moment when a connection is broken, would it be because the user has a modem connection and gets disconnected or because the server shuts down or any other such reason?

You can detect a dead socket when a write to it fails.
So, you could periodically send "keep alive" messages
to know approximately when it drops.Okay, I had noticed that the PrintStream would set it's error state to true when I try to send a message and the socket is dead, but I hoped I didn't have to wait until that moment... Thanks though! You confirmed me I'll have to do it that way :P

  • Internet connection loss using Airport Extreme and Netgear DG843

    Hello,
I am accessing internet via a Netgear DG834 router (not wifi), connected to an Airport Extreme base station. Most of the time, I can access internet through the Wifi network of the AEB without any problem. But around once a day I am experiencing connection loss and the only way I found to restore it is to reset the Netgear Router by physically unplungging it.
Both the Netgear and the AEB have up to date firmware, so I suspect some kind of problem in my setup, as I am not an expert in setting up networks.
Is it possible that using a Netgear Router connected to the AE (which is also a router if I understand correctly) could cause connection problems ?
I am at a loss, and do not even know how to describe the relevant informations of my current setup. If a kind soul could help me nonetheless, I would be very gratefull.
    Mr Pedrito
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Is it possible that using a Netgear Router connected
to the AE (which is also a router if I understand
correctly) could cause connection problems ?
    Yes.
Ensure that that the AEBS is configured to not distribute IP addresses.
Also ensure that the AEBS is on a different channel to the DG834G.

  • Bluetooth randomly connecting to devices?

Been having this weird issue in our office. I have a 2014 MBP running Yosemite, and there are 2 new iMacs and a nMPro on the same network also running Yosemite. One of my partners also has a Bose Bluetooth speaker. FYI the other Macs and I all have bluetooth Magic Mouses.
My MBP has been randomly connecting to these other Macs/devices randomly, on it's own. The other Macs will show up as a connected device, even though I have never connected to any of them previously (nor would I, since there's no good reason to connect to them via BT since we're all on the same network already). The Bluetooth speaker is a device I've connected to in the past, but it's automatically connecting to it and that's annoying; just today he was listening to music through it from his MBP (running 10.8) and my MBP interrupted that and attempted to take over the speaker from his Mac.
Previously I found a post about deleting some BT prefs to knock off the connecting to other Macs -- but the article blamed this on the other machines, not mine. I'm starting to wonder if it's not me though; is there something I should delete on my end to clear this mess up?
    TIA,
    JVK

The only thing I can think of is to reset the device(s).
Be sure, of course, that Bluetooth is set to on.
What are you trying to connect?

  • Random Connection Closed Errors using UCP

    Hey All;
I am trying to figure out why we are seeing quite a few random connection closed errors in our applications that are using Oracle UCP ver 11.2.0.1.0 connection pooling.
The errors happen at arbitrary jdbc usage source code locations (e.g.: spots that check a connection's auto commit mode, spots that spool through a result set, spots that do yada..) that consume a connection, and are not affiliated with what is being done with the connection (SQL being ran).
The architecture is Tomcat 7, hitting Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 (RAC). The structure of the code (it's a web app) is such that we have a servlet filter that assigns a http request thread a connection from the pool on an incoming request, then that same connection is closed at the completion of that request's handling. No code uses connections other than code related to handling an http request. And, no threads are spawned off of that request handling thread. And, no code whatsoever (other than the servlet filter's finally block) ever closes a DB connection.
Also, the number of connections in the pool is quite adequate for the usage of the pool. That is, the ceiling is likely never hit. Even if it were---- having an outstanding connection suddenly 'closed out' wouldn't be the proper behavior there.
What are the things that can cause a connection to be 'closed out from under you' ? Meaning, the connection is valid when taken from the pool, but arbitrarily in the middle of usage--- it gets closed.
I am pretty stumped at this point.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks--

Here are a few sample stacks. Keep in mind that the line of code where the exception actually happens is arbitrary. We see the exception happen at ANY line that is a consumer of a connection. For example... it could happen that it blows up on the 'Nth' iteration while trucking through a result set. Suddenly at say... iteration 143 the connection is suddenly closed out from under the connection's handle.
As far as threads are concerned, each http request that creates a controller servlet instance is assigned it's own connection to use through the handling of that request. That connection instance is assigned as a ThreadLocal instance. Any DB usage that thread has is via that connection. The servlet filter ensures the handle is assigned when the request comes in, then is cleaned up as that request is completely handled in the same filter's finally block (this is a pattern that dozens of web apps we have have been using for going on 10 years now). This is not an ejb app. Straight Tomcat 7 web app using MVC pattern where C is a servlet.
The curious thing here in my mind is that we only have two apps in our collection that are using this new UCP pooling driver (most other are using a tomcat pool). And, only those two are seeing this behavior.
I am not balking at the threads concern--- it's just hard to square that with how we handle threading in such a 'single thread per http request' manner.
And, if it were the case that the pool is handing out the same connection handle to more than one thread because of having multiple entrant threads to the pool accessor method---- it's difficult to buy that it's that common for us to have multiple entrant threads at the same moment in those very short time span it takes for a pool to hand out a connection (given the traffic usage pattern for the app).
Here are the 'known deltas' I am aware of between the two apps that have this behavior, and the couple of dozen we have that do not:
    1) these two apps are on Tomcat 7 (most others are Tom 5, Resin, or JBoss)
    2) these two apps are using the Ora UCP pool. (most others use Tomcat pool)

  • Internet slowed, then random connectivity

So I purchased my MacBook roughly 2 years ago some time this month. It was fine for the first year and my dad didn't want to get AppleCare because nothing had happened to it yet. As I reached the end of my warranty, the internet connection started slowing down gradually. About three months after my warranty expired, my hard drive died. I had to shell out $100 for a new one and installation. At this point in time, my internet connection was at it's worse. It would show full signal strength to my router, however would not allow internet access. I called my ISP and had them reset it and my internet was not better. Thinking it was my router I went out and got another. With that router, I was able to achieve random connectivity whenever my MacBook felt like it. We have since purchased another router in the hopes that it would get better, but it didn't. It's stayed the same, or gotten worse. I can achieve internet through wired means, directly to the wall, but it's rather bothersome and defeats the purpose of having a laptop if you can't move it. If you think you know what the problem is, let me know. If you know how much the repair would be, let me know. If it's too high, as a simple look-over costs $50, I would rather purchase a new computer.
