Random crashes and restarts
Hi,
I have an Iphone 3gs 16gb for a couple of weeks now, but since the beginning I've been experiencing some crashes or even phone restarts, maybe once a day, let's just say. It can happen with any app, once even with voice control. I've already done a restore to new iphone but nothing changed. I have the latest 3.1.2. firmware. Any suggests? Thanks.
Marco
Do a restore but do not install any apps and test it for a few days. If it keeps happening, take it back to the Apple Store to exchange under warranty and let them know that you've already done a restore and removed all apps and that it keeps happening.
If that fixes it, it's an app...you'll want to add back each app one at a time until it starts happening again to try and isolate which app is causing the crashes.
This is happening to me, too...but I have way too many apps to go through this whole process so I'm just living with it for the time being and will most likely just take it back to the Apple Store for a warranty replacement.
Good luck!!
John

Computer randomly crashing and restarting.
I recently upgraded my 2010 Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion OSX. Ever since I upgraded my computer has been randomly crashing and restarting itself. I have looked online for many solutions. I have tried editing settings in system prefereneces, a hard drive repair, a fresh instal of the operating system, and even bringing the laptop into a local apple store. They did some diagnostic checks and a hard drive repair and sent me on my way. Even after all this it is still randomly crashing and restarting itself.
The issue most often happens after being in sleep mode for a little while, atlhough it still occurs randomly throughout the day.I will bring it out of sleep mode and it will restart itself in the next minute or so.
I copied a crash report since I have seen many people posting them here. I hope that you guys can help me identify the problem and fix it. I need to use this computer for school and I have many urgent projects coming up. I am covered under apple care, so a part replacement is not an issue. Any insight into the issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Andy

com.apple.kec.corecrypto 1.0You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. You might be able to resolve the problem by reinstalling OS X. Try that first, if you haven't done so already. Otherwise, you may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver preference pane, but that's not a solution.
Most likely, the logic board will be replaced. Sometimes the replacement is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. -

I received a "replacement" iphone about 3 weeks ago as the one I bought on launch day had the earpiece die (I couldn't hear callers unless using headset). Just last week it started acting funny when I would try to answer call waiting - it locked up and would not allow me to end the call without a soft reset (home+power button). Then on Thursday when I was adding a rental to my iPhone - it crashed, starting blinking black and white screens then sat on the apple logo for about 5 minutes. I quickly restored the iPhone hoping that would resolve the issue. However, now 4 days later and 3 additional restores - I am still having serious crashing issues - now at random - happens during sync, using a webpage, on a call, wrting an email - oh and then last thing - when I use the camera to take pictures none of them are saved in the photo albums..
I have only applied Apple updates, have NOT hacked the phone, and take care of it very well..
I am visiting the genius bar tonight but I thought I would see if anyone else had similar issues and, if so, what they did to correct them...
Also - do I have the right (I use that loosely) to request a new phone - sealed in the new box and all - if they choose to replace my phone? or is that a losing battle?
Much appreciated..
MickmanI thought I'd share what happened this month to me. I had a "day one" phone from June 29th. Four gigs. A few weeks ago, it began to act crazy. Freezing. Restarting on its own. Needed soft resets. Restores. Sometimes I couldn't get it on until I plugged it into a charger. Other times, not at all. Four or five trips to the genius bar. On second trip, I got a replacement phone. It had to be a refurbished one. But let me tell you, it was like new. SAME problem! Back to genius bar. They sent me for new SIM card at AT&T just down the hall in the mall. SAME problem. Back to genius bar. After maybe 2 weeks of this, I got ANOTHER refurbished phone. This time, I put all my regular things on the phone except my music. So now I'm going on about 8 beautiful perfect days.
What do I think caused it? Something in my music. After all those phones, nothing was left the same except what I put ON the phone. I haven't yet put my music back on, but when I do, it will be with a new playlist and I'll add slowly, just in case there's something very corrupt in there. Note: all my music is from iTunes or from bought CDs I've imported.
I wouldn't worry about the refurbished phone. That's the least of it. -
Yosemite - random crashes and restarts
Hi since I have installed Yosemite. My computer is mysteriously restarting and recovering from a crash. It never happens while I am using the computer but I can come home from work or from being away from home and I find that the computer has restarted and that it gives me recovery info upon restart. Here is the error log that shows up when I restart.
Can anyone look at this and tell me what is going on or what is at the bottom of it.
The computer is iMac 27-inch Mid 2011
3.1 Ghz Intel Core i5
20GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
475 GB free storage on main disk.

Good luck!!

IMac crashing and restarting randomly
Starting this morning my iMac has started randomly crashing and restarting on its own. This has happened 3-4 times today. It seems to happen when the computer is going to sleep or waking up or something around sleep. I have no idea how to even begin troubleshooting this issue. Where do I start?
I checked the system.log and see this message repeated over and over again:
discoveryd[52]: Basic Sockets Couldn't set IP_BOUND_IF on socket fd[81] scopeID[4] errno[22] result[-1]
I also see a lot of:
networkd[144]: +[NETLedBelly stopFastFail] Clearing ledbelly failure cache
and:
configd[26]: network changed: v4(en0:10.0.1.11, en1) v6(en1!:2601:9:4780:757:8a63:dfff:fec6:68f9) DNS Proxy SMB
and:
kernel[0]: IOThunderboltSwitch<0xffffff805bd57e00>(0x1)::listenerCallback - Thunderbolt HPD packet for route = 0x1 port = 11 unplug = 0 -
My late 2012 iMac 3.4Ghz i7 running 10.9.5 crashed on me last night while working in Safari (on the USPS site). After restarting the machine now randomly crashes and restarts. When I leave the machine after a few hours I always find it on the login window. I login and I get the message that the machine crashed and restarted. I booted to my recovery partition and did a repair disk and repaired permissions, but it's still happening. Can anyone help before I call AppleCare? Thanks!!!

Brand new Macbook Pro keeps crashing and restarting - Mavericks
Hey guys, I just got a new Macbook Pro on Monday and my first time turning it on it was perfect, the next day I turned it on and kept crashing and "Restarting due to a problem", it wouldn't even make to to the log in page. Every time I power it up now I get the same issue over and over, once I make it passed the log in it is usually fine but does crash sometimes randomly but not much.
I have read here that updating to Mavericks has caused this problem but surely when it came with it and is less than a week old it should be fine? (I'm confused as to why the report says my Mac is Mid 2012, I just bought it!!) Also the only software I have installed is Microsoft Office. I do have Silverlight Plug in installed for Netflix which I read can be an issue with Mavericks.
I downloaded EtreCheck and this is the report I have. Please any help will be great!

Camera video preview - Random crashes and green screens
Hello everyone,
I am currently working on a Windows Phone 8.1 app and I need to preview video from the phone's back camera. For quite some time I've been struggling with random crashes and green screens. When these green screens appear, all camera apps become affected and
the device needs to be restarted. Occasionally the phone freezes and only recovers after battery removal. I test the app on my Lumia 620.
After some web search, I found references to the same problem by many users/developers of different apps. I'm really frustrated as I've tried many possible solutions with no avail.
Here is part of my code:
//in App.xaml.cs:
MediaCaptureInitializationSettings settings;
public static MediaCapture captureMgr;
public static bool UnableToInitializeCamera = false;
public async Task InitializeVideoCapture()
DeviceInformation backWebcam = await GetCameraDeviceInfoAsync(Windows.Devices.Enumeration.Panel.Back);
if(captureMgr!=null) captureMgr.Dispose();
captureMgr = new MediaCapture();
settings = new MediaCaptureInitializationSettings();
settings.StreamingCaptureMode = StreamingCaptureMode.Video;
settings.PhotoCaptureSource = PhotoCaptureSource.VideoPreview;
settings.AudioDeviceId = "";
if (backWebcam != null)
settings.VideoDeviceId = backWebcam.Id;
else
var _messageDialog = new MessageDialog("Back panel camera not found");
_messageDialog.Commands.Add(new UICommand("OK"));
_messageDialog.ShowAsync();
try
await captureMgr.InitializeAsync(settings);
captureMgr.SetPreviewRotation(VideoRotation.Clockwise90Degrees);
UnableToInitializeCamera = false;
catch
UnableToInitializeCamera = true;
Debug.WriteLine("HANDLED EXCEPTION: camera could not be initialized");
var _messageDialog = new MessageDialog("Unable to initialize camera");
_messageDialog.Commands.Add(new UICommand("OK"));
_messageDialog.ShowAsync();
protected override async void OnLaunched(LaunchActivatedEventArgs e)
//.... other app initialization code
await InitializeVideoCapture();
Window.Current.Activate();
private async void OnResuming(object sender, object e)
AppIsResuming = true;
FinishedCameraInitialize = false;
await Task.Delay(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(0.5));//this makes crashes less frequent
await InitializeVideoCapture();
FinishedCameraInitialize = true;
if(WasPreviewingCamera)
WasPreviewingCamera = false; //the following line allows time for SetupPage._captureElement to be assigned before video preview starts while (!SetupPage.CaptureElementSourceAssigned) await Task.Delay(TimeSpan.FromMilliseconds(1));
SetupPage.CaptureElementSourceAssigned = false;
try
Debug.WriteLine("trying to restart video preview");
await captureMgr.StartPreviewAsync();
SetupPage.PreviewingCamera = true;
catch
Debug.WriteLine("HANDLED EXCEPTION: unable to start previewing");
SetupPage.PreviewingCamera = false;
GC.Collect();
AppIsResuming = false;
private async void OnSuspending(object sender, SuspendingEventArgs e)
var deferral = e.SuspendingOperation.GetDeferral();
while (AppIsResuming) await Task.Delay(TimeSpan.FromMilliseconds(1));//prevents crash when app is suspended right after it is resumed
await CleanupCaptureResources();
TimeOfLastSuspend = DateTime.Now;
FinishedCameraInitialize = false;
GC.Collect();
deferral.Complete();
public async Task CleanupCaptureResources()
if (SetupPage.PreviewingCamera)
await captureMgr.StopPreviewAsync();
WasPreviewingCamera = true;
SetupPage.PreviewingCamera = false;
else WasPreviewingCamera = false;
if (captureMgr != null) captureMgr.Dispose();
//in SetupPage.xaml.cs
void OnSuspending(object sender, Windows.ApplicationModel.SuspendingEventArgs e)
var deferral = e.SuspendingOperation.GetDeferral();
_captureElement.Source = null;
CaptureElementSourceAssigned = false;
GC.Collect();
deferral.Complete();
private async void OnResuming(object sender, object e)
ProgressRing2.Visibility = Visibility.Visible;
ProgressRing2.IsActive = true;
while (!App.FinishedCameraInitialize) await Task.Delay(TimeSpan.FromMilliseconds(1));
App.FinishedCameraInitialize = false;
captureElement.Source = App.captureMgr;
CaptureElementSourceAssigned = true;
GC.Collect();
ProgressRing2.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed;
ProgressRing2.IsActive = false;
Any help towards a solution will be greatly appreciated.
Thank youI will also advice that you start by following the
Windows Store app sample.
Is this a Windows Phone app?
The crash/green screen only manifests itself when I suspend my app and switch to the default camera app (could be any other camera app perhaps). It happens roughly 1 out of 8 times. That's why I posted the suspension and resuming handlers, which I wrote
according to the msdn instructions.
I found
this page with a sample that demonstrates the MediaCapture API for Windows Phone. Some developers have reported problems similar as mine. Has Microsoft dealt with this issue?
I've spent quite a few weeks trying to investigate this problem, without actually knowing if it is my code that needs to be debugged. That's why I'm asking if other developers are facing similar problems.
Thank you
Edit: It seems that the crash/green screen can appear when suspending/switching to any app (regardless if it uses the camera or not). Also, all works fine when the app is running on the debugger. -

Iphone 4 Keeps crashing and restarting, No help from Applecare
My iPhone 4 keeps crashing and restarting and AppleCare is unable to duplicate the issue or resolved the issue.
Recently my iphone randomly started crashing or it would freeze then i have to restart using power and home button, These are few things that I have already tried to resolve the issue:
1: Restore to factory settings and start over from scratch.
2. Deleted recently updated apps to see which one could be causing the issue, but the issue is still there.
3. Re-downloaded ios 5.1 and did a fresh restore.
After doing all this I called Applecare and they suggested to send in my phone and they will replace it and send me a new one since Im still having the issue after doing all of the above. Today I recieved my phone back from Applecare stating that the issue was resolved or not duplicated. So I did a restore once again and from one of the saved files that I had setup as a new phone. In the last 6 hours my phone has froze once, and crashed twice. I called Applecare again and he suggested to send the iphone in again and he will put in the notes to give it max time to detect the issue.
Are there any other alternatives? The closest Apple store is 140 miles from my house and Im fedup with sending in the phone and getting it back w/o the issue being solved. Thanks for the help in advance.Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, resest, restore from backup, restore as new.
If you still have problems after going through ALL the recommended troubleshooting steps, then you likely have a hardware issue. You'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation. -
Mac Pro Crashing And Restarting
Can somebody help me. My Mac is crashing and restarting randomly and it getting worse since I tried to clean it up with Tech Tool.
Look in Apple System Profiler (Apple Menu > About this Mac > ( More Info )...
... Memory pane. All modules should be listed as OK, and all should show as their proper size.
Your Mac has Error Correcting Code (ECC) RAM. Single-bit errors are detected and corrected on-the-fly, but will cause the status to change to something other than OK. More than a handful of corrected errors in a month is troubling. Double-bit errors generally cause a Kernel Panic.
Console.app should be in your Applications/Utilities folder -
Finder Crashing and Restarting
I've been having problems with Finder and restarting randomly. The latest happened when right clicking on an app and then "Show Package Contents".
Here's the resulting crash log. It's pretty much exactly the same, might even be the exact same but I don't remember, as my other crash logs including the addresses under Exceptions and Codes. Can someone tell me what's going on in the crash log? What is libobjc.A.dylib? What is com.apple.HIToolbox?

IPod 30G 5g Crashing and restarting
My ipod which has been working fine up until the new update is crashing during two scenrios. One is playing podcasts, both video and audio, video will play for a bit then crash. The audio ones will make the ipod crash and restart after hitting play.
It is also going through the crash and restart cycle randomly when having my songs playing on shuffle.
Is anyone else having these problem, possible found a solution, or word when a solution might be coming? Thanks.I think my problem may be similar. My new 5.5G iPod (and I just got it today) crashed while trying to play a video, I restarted it and now it is just repeating the process of restarting over and over, it shows the Apple logo for about ten seconds and I can hear it whirring, then it clicks and it flashes a blank screen and starts the process over. I really don't want to have to take it back. I tried to restart it again and nothing happened. I can't even connect it to the computer!
