Random date changes on older photos

I am very organized in iPhoto, I've been using it for years. I have 15,000+ photos in my iPhoto library and since last week I have noticed that it is randomly redating my some of my older photos. Last week I browsed through my library from the earliest date (2003) without modifying anything on any photos... since then it has randomly redated some of those photos. I have no idea how or why this has happened... any info anyone can give me as to why this happened or how to correct it would be greatly appreciated!! I take extreme care to organize each and every photo that I upload, this little issue is driving me crazy!
Thanks in advance!
Sarah

So what to do about 25,500 photos dating back to 1999 all changed to Feb 2 2010?
I can't solve your underlying problem, but I wanted to point out that there probably are utilities that will - on a batch basis - change these file dates back to whatever you want.
If you lived in the Mac world, I'd point out that iPhoto - the Mac photo cataloging application - will reset the dates and times of selected photos to whatever you want.  So you could select folders or groups of pictures and reset their dates.
Go to Google and see if there is a Windows-equivalent utility.  When I do a search like this on Google, I try to imagine what words or terms would be used in the product description, or on the developer's web page.  Here, I'd choose "reset date" and "pictures" and "file" and "Windows".
This won't help you solve the underlying problem, but it might help you afterwards.
I've started keeping an old backup hard disk in my gun safe, and only updating it in June and December.  That gives me six months to discover that something catastrophic has gone wrong with some of my files - or pictures.
I keep two other backup hard drives that I exchange on a weekly basis.  I could see me corrupting the relevant files on both of my weekly backup drives before I realized that I had a problem.  Hence, the need for a third long-term hard drive.
Sure, an extra hard drive will cost you $50 to $100.  How much time will you have to spend trying to recover from this?

  • Imported photos into iPhoto 5 assign random date and I want to change it.

Basically, I import a photo or an album from anywhere (desktop, camera, memory card reader, etc.), and it assigns itself a random date and get's lost in my expansive library. My copy of iPhoto is so janky in general that all I really want to know is if it is possible to change the date of a roll, and how if I can. Doing a batch change doesn't do anything. Can I change the date of a roll?
    cheers,

    Hi Benjamin,
Open the info panel by clicking on the i icon on the bottom left of the iPhoto window
Now click on the title of a roll
Then go to the info panel and click on the word "date" and type in the date

  • How do I change the time and date on a specific photo

I import photos from various cameras in the family.  Not everyone has the date or time correct.  In all older versions of iPhoto I could edit the date and time whenever the info field was available.  In the current version all I can find reference to is the date for an event - not the individual photo or any means to change the time.

Great  --  and note that you can create a smart album by camera type to make it easy to correct the time info for a camera that was set differently  --  the adjust T/D command changes all selected photos by the same amount of time

  • How do you change date and time in Photos?

How do you change the date and time of photos in the new Photos app? I know how to do it in iPhoto, I'm having a problem figuring it out for the new app. I have a MacBook Pro 13" running on OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.3

    Select photos
Click "Image" menu > "Adjust Date and Time..."

    Select photos
    Command + i(or "window" menu > "info")
"Double-Click" around "Date and Time" on "info window"

  • Changing the Date and Time of photos

    Hello,
i have been importing images from my windows machine and want all the dates to be correct, i have seen the adjust date and time, and made the changes but under the events the dates dont change and when i click individual photos the dates and times are not changing.
so i was wondering how do i change the time for each photo and event? can i change the time to a start and finish date rather than just one date?
Any help with the above would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

I have just looked at this again, i dont see an option to set both a start and end date, any ideas?
That is not an an option - and it makes no sense
You can do one of three things:
1 - add a constant delta to all selected photos thereby correcting an incorrect setting on a camera and preserving the sequence and integrity of the photos dates ad times
2 - change the date and time for all selected photos to a specific value
3 - change the date and time for all selected photos to a base value plus an increment for each successive photo.
There are two choices under the photos menu
1 - adjust date and time - this adds a constant Delta to the selected photos - is is designed for correcting camera times or time zones but keeping the basic sequence
2 - batch change date and time - this simply changes the date & time to your selected value with an option to add an increment to each
Both have an option to modify the original photo which I do (I'm not sure why you would not want to modify the original)
And when i go into photos, the ones that i have altered by +Photos >>> Adjust Date and Time+ still have different times and dates, any ideas?
AS described in the iPhoto help and above
1 - adjust date and time - this adds a constant Delta to the selected photos - is is designed for correcting camera times or time zones but keeping the basic sequence
So after adjusting time and date all photos selected will have the time and date changed by the same amount (a constant delta) and if they were all different before they will still all be different - if they were all the same before adjustment they will still all be the same but at a different value

  • The information of photo like date change after close it. How can'i correct that

the information of photo like date change after close it. How can'i correct that?

Using the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option will let you change the EXIF Capture Date of the photo.
For a single photo (or to set a group of photos to the same date and time) use the Photos ➙ Adjust Date and Time ... menu option.

  • Date changing when dragging/copying photos

Help! I am trying to organize my iPhoto library.  I am essentially dragging my photos from my library to a folder or dragging them to an externa hard drive so I can then organize them into a new library.  The dates and times are correct in iPhoto.  Then, when I drag them into a new folder the dates will completely change.  I had an event with 4 photos in it and the correct date for all photos was 4/19/05.  When I drag this event to a folder in my pictures file or when I drag the event into dropbox, the date on 2 photos changed to 3/17/11 and the date on the other 2 photos changed to 9/30/09.  Does anyone know why this is happening or how I can stop it????

Suggested by a friend, I realize may be controversial... but, I have run out of room on my hard drive and need to dump my photos onto an external hard drive.  So, here is what I am doing:
    1) I create a folder in my pictures folder in Finder (Home --> Pictures --> New folder) for photos from a particular year (let's say 2008, let's say the folder is named Photos 08)
    2) I drag an event/events of pictures taken in 2008 from my main iPhoto library into the folder Photos 08. This is the step in which I see the date change.
    3) I switch to a different iPhoto Library (let's say Photos_2008).  I have so many photos that my friend and I thought it would be easier to break them down into smaller libraries.
    4) I import the photos from the folder Photos 08 into the iPhoto library Photos_2008.  When I import the photos into the new library they all come through but they are lumped into one event called Photos 08 and the dates are still wrong.  At this step, I have been manually correcting the dates.
    5) then, I move the Photos_2008 library onto the external hard drive (actually 2 different external hard drives to be safe)
    6) I make sure the photos are there by opening iPhoto from the external hard drive, and then delete (all the while cringing) the events from 2008 that are in my main iPhoto library
Does that make sense?  Do you have any better ideas on how to get these onto the external hard drive?  I'd like to keep some of the photos and my more recent photos on my computer but need to get the other ones off.
Also, a little background info... in early Sept '12 my system crashed.  I also back everything up with Time Machine so they ended up reformatting my hard drive and then I used Time Machine to get everything back on my computer.  Since then, my computer has been a mess.  Multiple users with the same photos, songs, documents, etc. duplicates, triplicates of photos, documents, songs, etc. on my computer.  A real mess.
Thanks for any advice you can offer,
    StephPH

  • How can I change the date "taken" on individual photos in iPhoto?

How can I change the date "taken" on individual photos in iPhoto? I have some photos that were scanned and the date "taken" info displays the day the picture was scanned as opposed to the date it was actually taken. Is there some way to edit this information?

In iPhoto '11 on your Mac use the command "Photos > Adjust Date and Time" and enable the "Modify original files" option, if you want to set the date of the originals to the correct date as well.

My clock time and date changes randomly. I have reset the iPhone and updated its software but it still changes. Can anyone help?

That just happened to me too! It started yesterday April 27 and did it today too. I think it changes around like 1pm-1:15pm. In order to get it to change back to the right time, I just turn off my phone then turn it back on. But that doesn't fix the problem. I don't know why its doing this! :[

  • PLEASE HELP!! Why do my file dates change on import?

I'm trying to drag and drop iPhotos into Aperture or export a collection of files and then import them into Aperture, but the image date changes to a random date in the future when I do so.
    What am I doing wrong?
How do I solve the problem?

    hi, jan
quote: "Hmmm... the "Edit" button works for me, but it looks like the data I changed didn't actually change... even though the modified date on the .jpg file updated..."
I've been wanting to change the exposure EXIF data since I started using Aperture to make a 32bit HDR file from one photograph so as to fake bracketing of multiple photographs (with just one photo) and obtain a perfect exposure of difficult shots like forests, night city scenes, night clubs etc.
    Back to the drawing board

  • How can I recover from a Botched BATCH DATE CHANGE in iPhoto?

    Botched Batch Date Change iPhoto08
Short Story: Intending to change the date for one photo I managed to change the dates for all 8,525 images in my iPhoto08 library to the SAME DATE!! I found that the original creation dates were saved in the in the Modified field that appears in the Photo Info Window / File metadata subsection. I would like some help figuring out how to set the Date Created to this File Modified Date that appears in the Photo Info Window.
    GORY DETAILS:
I used iPhoto08/ Photos menu / BATCH CHANGE... /“Set DATE to 20100723 1:20:54 PM” with “Modify original files” checked. iPhoto changed all 8,525 images to the same date.
I now realize I should have used Photos menu / Adjust Date and Time ... But the damage was already done. Unfortunately there was no Edit menu / Undo for this operation. ALL 8,525 images have the same date. I checked in the the iPhoto Information sidebar--same date all images.
Next, as a test, I dragged an image to the desktop and opened it in Graphic Converter7.0.3. The same date “20100723 1:20:54 PM” appeared in the Image Browser List /”Date Created”, “Date Modified”, “Date Captured” metadata fields.
The following appeared in the Graphic Converter
Image Preview sidebar (subWindow) going left to right
    Image menu/button
Date and Time: Friday, July 23, 2010 1:20:54 PM PT
    Exif menu/button
File date and time: 2010:07:23 13:20:54
Date and time of original data generation: 2010:07:23 13:20:54
    Unknown tag (36868): 2010:07:23 13:20:54 <- significant?
    ExifTool menu/button
    ExifTool Version Number:8.40
Warning: [minor] Suspicious MakerNotes offset for tag 0x9001
    ----System----
    File Modification Date/Time: 2010:07:23 13:20:54-07:00
    ----IFDO----
    Modify Date: 2010:07:23 13:20:54
    ----ExifIFD----
    Date/Time Original: 2010:07:23 13:20:54
    Create Date: 2010:07:23 13:20:54
<<<<<<OH MY GOD >>>>>> the BATCH CHANGE / SET DATE not only RESET the date for EVERY IMAGE in my library, it also changed the date metadata EVERYWHERE inside each individual image file.
Actually it's my Mom and Dad's iPhoto library containing all the kids and grand kids pictures, family trips, important events, everything. There is no backup. I feel as if I have tipped over a file cabinet containing all our photos. Our “date and event” organized 8,525 image iPhoto library was now as useful as a giant shoebox. On second thought, a shoe box full of real photo prints would be more useful than my iPhoto library because the prints would have the print date stamped on them.
At this point feeling desperate I closed my eyes and said a quick prayer to Saint Rita - Patron Saint of the Impossible.
I returned to iPhoto .................and noticed the Show Photo Info MENU item in the Photo Menu.
    I selected it.
    And Low and behold,
    in the Photo Info WINDOW,
under the Meta data File SUBSECTION, the correct photo creation date appeared -->" Modified: 20071002 05:46:07 PM" I checked different photos ... They all had different FILE MODIFIED dates. These dates were/are the old creation dates! My prayers were answered: THANK YOU SAINT RITA!
But now I am really stumped! This File Modified Date seems to be some kind of external metadata that is indexed or keyed to each image. How is this metadata stored in the iPhoto library? How can I access this File Modified date? I now turn to you GREAT iPhoto WIZARDS. Pray tell, how can I set the “Creation Date to the file Modified Date” that appears in the Photo Info Window as a (scriptable?) batch process.
I am on my knees for this one...please help. we have iphoto11 but afraid to upgrade to it. until i know more i don't want to loose this Modified Date metadata.

    thanks for the quick response...
no simple solution because no backup to restore from
iPhoto seems to be using file metadata as some sort of index key in the
Photo Info Window. open up the iphoto library package and take a look at
the .xml file -- ModDate is used everywhere. hoping to export this data and merge/join it to
    each image.
still trying to figure it out.
    thanks,
    Tom

I try to open iphoto and it comes up with You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto. I have downloaded photo manager and it's telling me to update but it wont update...

iPhoto is Apple's included program to manage your photo's and pictures.
It receives updates over time with Software updates and new machine or iLife purchases.
When iPhoto gets updated or a newer version is used, it may alter iPhoto support files, but newer iPhoto versions usually always compatible with older files which it then updates.
If you used a newer iPhoto on your iPhoto support files, then they got altered to the newer format, older iPhoto versions can't read the older format.
Somewhere along the line you somehow got a older version of iPhoto on your computer, you need to fine the newer version of iPhoto (not this photo manager, sounds like another program)
Or somewhere along the line you used a newer iPhoto version (like on another Mac) and it altered the iPhoto support files on your older version of iPhoto.
So the key here is to find the newest version of iPhoto and use that to access your iPhoto support files.
If you didn't access your iPhoto support files from another Mac, then you should have the newer iPhoto version on your computer.
Once you find it, and get it in the Dock, you should remove the older iPhoto version from your computer to prevent this from happening again.
Lastly, if the newer version of iPhoto is somehow gone off your computer, you should be able to get a copy off the latest OS X install disk or iLife using a free program called Pacifist.
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
Then you need to check for updates for iPhoto in the program itself, the current version is 9.1.2

  • HT204264 How can I upload older photos without metadata into Photos?

I have older photos that I would like to upload to my Photo's iCloud library but it will pop up with a message saying there is no metadata. How can I upload my older photos?

I worked in IT on the university level for four years so it's really frustrating to see more safeguards in place in a public school district any university. If we're trying to teach these kids to be ready for real life and then block out and don't let them use half the technology they're going to encounter in real life, well I just don't get that. But that's another rant for another time.
How I do it is I save all of the photos my students scan onto my external hard drive, then transfer them to my personal computer and upload them to dropbox using Dropbox for windows (or whatever the desktop application is called) . I then have my students go to dropbox.com on the iPad, login as me, and go through each photo, saving each to the iPad as they go.
I should have said upfront that when I try to connect the iPad to my personal computer it charges the iPad but won't recognize under my computer or show up in iTunes, so I am unable to see any of the data on it. I'm pretty sure it's not the 30 pin connector that's malfunctioning because I've tried with two of them. I can only check if it registers with iTunes on my personal computer because I can't download iTunes on school computers since I don't have administrator privileges
