Random Freezing and booting problems
My MBP (4 years old) randomly freezes and the only button works is the power button. It has booting problems as well
Done already
clean install of snow leopard
PRAM reset
Safe Boot (boots again after using safe boot but still freezes after a couple of minutes)
AHT hardware test with no result
Still freezes after 1 to 15 minutes.
Anything else I cab do?

Unfortunately not at home at the moment so can not give exact answers.
When my mac book freezes the fan still works, keyboard and touch pad do not work anymore. I don't think caps lock light works but not sure.
Have original ram and a retail SL disc.
When I have booting problems I can see the spinning wheel and after that only blue screen. If I power off and start in safe mode and then restart again mbp will boot again for 2,3 or 4 times and then stop booting again but still freezing after a couple of minutes.
The funny thing with the booting is after I see the blue screen I can still connect from my mac mini and browse my MBP from my mac mini.(screen sharing does not work though).
And do not know what smart status is

G4 MDD freezing and boot problems
Recently bought an MDD dual 1.0 as an upgrade from a 400mhz sawtooth G4. It has seemed to work fine until today, but I haven't been doing much with it other than install software.
Installed software:
OSX 10.3.9(from combined update, not software update)
Pro Tools TDM 6.4.1 cs4
What's happening right now:
When booting, the monitor remains black until the Blue background "Mac OSX" loading screen starts. There is no gray screen with the apple logo, ever. Sometimes this period of blackness is less than a minute, sometimes it can go for up to 5 minutes before I get video. I have never had this happen on any mac, it's definitely the most unusual symptom.
The computer seems to completely freeze or become unusable within 5 minutes of light use.
I just pulled all PCI cards, thinking maybe that was the problem, but no luck.
A few other interesting points:
The fans seem to be running more than usual, so I'm wondering if this might be heat related. This has the least desirable thick aluminum heatsink. But I don't want to throw a lot of money at this machine if I don't have to.
When I got this computer 3 weeks ago it would not boot, but pushing the PMU reset button on the motherboard got it going right away. Just tried this again and it did not help.

Still having issues though.
First, I ran techtool. When it gets to the last test, volume structure, it gets slow, then automatically reboots. I'm wondering if I might have a bad hard drive.
Rebooting from the hard drive seemed to work okay initially, but as soon as CPU temp exceeds 58 degrees celsius the OS freezes. What is a normal temp for this computer, is it overheating?

Problem description:
(MacBook Pro 15” late 2008, OSX Yosemite 10.10.2 installed, no pending updates) computer is running very slow - takes 2-3 minutes to open apps such as Pages, even when no other apps are open. Randomly freezes and becomes unresponsive, requiring forced power down. Randomly logs off. Removed Kodak AIO software via Clean My Mac2, but BonjourAgent still there and requesting access. Cleaned weekly with Clean My Mac2 and running Sophos AntiVirus. 2GB memory installed. Currently 169.99 GB available of 249.2 GB capacity.

Lumia 620 randomly freezes and reboots
I knew a cheap windows phone is too good to be true. I've been getting random freezes and reboots without any reason at all. This is unacceptable, nokia should address this windows 8 issue afflicting wp 8 phones. Please don't tell be to do a soft or hard reset because we already know it won't fix the problem.
Hi, everyone. I've been having problems with random reboots ever since I bought my Lumia 620 and it was driving me crazy. It freezes up sporadically too, but I think I found a fix for rebooting issues.
When my cousin bought her Lumia 620 I immediately asked her if hers rebooted sporadically as well. She said it hadn't, not once. Then, one time her battery was dying so I gave her mine, and she left me with her battery and on charger while she went home. Anyway, hers started to reboot frequently, whilst mine was behaving ok.
When we replaced the batteries again, mine began rebooting again.
Finally, I checked both our batteries and found out mine was moving around the device more freely than hers. Hers was held firmly in place while mine danced around. Then I tried moderate, yet gentle tap on the side of my device and it rebooted EVERY TIME I tapped it. After I inserted a small, neatly folded piece of paper between the device and the battery, the battery clicked in place tightly and it couldn't move at all. Reboots stopped, no matter how strong I tapped the sides of the device.
This hasn't resolved any freezes, but at least it's not rebooting all the time. So check your battery, maybe it is a hairline thinner or smaller or whatnot from the rest of them and it can move around. A millisecond is enough for it to lose contact, half a millimeter of movement is enough to cause your phone to reboot. Hope this revelation of mine will help someone -

KT6 Delta - Random freezes and LAN Issues
Just built a new PC, installed Win XP, installed all the drivers etc.
I get random freezes - as in the machine will just stop responding totally. I could run for an hour before a freeze, other times its frozen before I've even logged in.
Also the LAN keeps dropping out too. The timing of this is also random, just to make things interesting. I could be downloading a 20MB file, get only 2MB into it, then it just sits there. The only way to get the LAN back up and running is to reboot. Once I've rebooted, its a case of just waiting for it to fail again

I've got the FSB set to 166 and also set the memory up correctly (333 and 2.5 cl) but to no avail.
I was running with a Soundblaster Audigy card, but took that out and still got the same. I even tried taking out one of the memory modules.
I don't think its a temperature issue as the CPU is currently running at about 47 Degrees and I've got the side off-of the case.
Please - anyone got any ideas???I have a KT6 Delta LSR and am having probs with the onboard Broadcom 4401 as well.
After Initial boot of machine I have 2-5 minutes to surf the net or whatever. At that time I lose connection. Also if I linger on one page long enough to read, I lose connection. Or shutdown a net connected program, it loses connection.
When I play Tribes - the connection stays till I leave the server - then I have to reboot.
This is driving me nuts. I have disabled the Lan in bios and installed a Netgear 10/100. XP recognizes it but cannot get rid of "Cable not plugged in" message. So I reinstalled the 4401.
I have RR and am behind a Phoebe 4 port router. None of the other computers have a problem with the router, and I have tried changing plug in ports around among the computers.
I have the same version of driver for it as the latest at MSI. Flashed the latest bios lately as well, in desperation.
Any ideas? I sure would appreciate it.

IMac (i3 2010) random freezing and now with 3 beeps
Hi I have a 21" iMac i3 base model with 8Gb of Ram (see below).
Ever since I got the mac about 10 months ago it has been randomly freezing up, becoming completely unresponsive to any input (keyboard mice etc), and can only be fixed by a hard reboot (holding down power button).
It can happen while I am away at lunch and I come back to find it frozen on the screen saver. Other times I'm just browsing the web (nb has happens with safari, firefox, and chrome). While others times I have been using the system to its fullest. There never seems to be a reproducible way of triggering it. I can go for a week without issue, and then it can happen 6+ times a day, and they go back to being fine again for awhile. Although it has been getting progressively worse over time and more constant.
I have tried repairing permissions (disk utility and onyx). Defraged the drive (drive genius), run TechTools pro and it passed all the tests. I don't have access to the orginal disks (work iMac) so running the AHT is not possible, as is a clean instal.
I updated to 10.6.8 this week, and now when it freezes, it is now accopained by 3 loud beeps...pause...3 beeps etc etc.
This suggests that it could be a memory problem, but I have never had a problem during the boot up process, and as I said it has passed the memory test on both TechTools6 and Rember, I'm not sure if this is the case.
Because the system completely frezzes, there is no log or error reports created, meaning that pin-pointing the issue or even having proof for the tech-guys/Apple is difficult.
Has anyone got any suggestions on a fix, or how I might be able to get an error report, or how I could induce the problem on que.

SMC Version (system): 1.64f5Ok so it definitely appears to be the RAM. I have found a way to reproduce the crashing....Running Prime95. Its normally takes about 15-30min on the stresstest to get the system to lock up.
But here is the strange thing. It only seems to work if I have the full 8Gb installed.
I have run each 2Gb stick by itself without issues.
And then run 6Gb, changing the empty slot each time, and again no crashing.
I found the following thread also has similar issues, with the RAM the most likely cause.

I can discount USB,wifi,bluetooth as I tried this and still managed to get a crash.
But I did have screen sharing on so I am now testing if I can run the 8Gb with this disabled.

Good description of what is really wrong and how to reproduce if possible. Details of what you did before: There is no way to reproduce the problem. It does it randomly on its own and quiete often. We have tried a hard AND soft reset to no avail. PLease help if you can. Whenever I try to watch movies on iTunes on my computer, the video will randomly freeze, but the audio will continue. This happens will all of my shows, however this never happens on my iPod or iPad. Whenever I want to watch a new movie I buy or any of my shows this problem keeps happening. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it did not work. Why does this problem keep happening, and how can I fix it? Thank you.

Multimedia, random lockups and Shutdown problems
I have a MSI K7T266 Pro2 motherboard. Even after loading the most current driver update (4 in 1 4.43) the machine works fine, but by the next day it will either freeze while playing any type of multimedia (mediaplayer, cable tv viewer, etc), randomly freeze or will just restart itself. I have had these problems ever since I purchased this motherboard. I have been building computers for years and have never encountered such a tempermental motherboard.
I am currently running Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional on different partitions. Both operating systems were installed cold onto a new formated hard drive. The problems exist in both operating systems.
Is there a way to permanently fix these problems?Hi,

Random freezing and odd keyboard behaviors on 10.5.8
My random freezing started on 10.5.6. Updated to 10.5.7 and the problem persist. I have decided to upgrade to 10.5.8. Everything seemed fine for a day and a half. Then all of a sudden random freezing when starting, login, wake from sleep, etc.. and now odd keyboard behaviors. function keys randomly work when computer is not frozen.
I have tried every option listed in the discussions here and elsewhere. Does anyone have the same problems?I have tried so far:
disk permissions repaired from dvd and startup,
disk first aid,cleaned caches, virus checked, zapped the pram, reset power management, ran apple hardware check, ran disk warrior, trashed network prefs, deleted sleep image, replaced directory with techtool pro, tried new user account, re-updated, removed 3rd party software, and nothing works????? -
Seemingly random freezes and general sluggishness.
Since I have updated to Snow Leopard my 20" iMac seems to be having some issues. various applications stall (iTunes, FireFox, iPhoto) or completely freeze seemingly at random. Not enough to prohibit use of the machine but often enough to cause concern. I have run DiskUtility to repair permissions, I have cleared out my cache files using Onyx but these stalls and crashes still seem to persist.
I have posted the log from a single start up below. A few start up errors caught my attention but I admit I really do not completely understand what I am reading.

MenuCracker: There seem to be 3 errors in the log related to MenuCracker I have read that this is installed with some software but I am not sure what. I did have "Connect360.prefPane" and "MediaLink.prefPane" set to show their icons in the menu, but this error still persists after I set them to not do so.

-------------------I finally tracked down where MenuCracker was hiding as an invisible file:
/Users/calvin/.webex/825/Sharing.app/Contents/Resources/WebexAppshare.menu/Conte nts/Resources/MenuCracker.menu/Contents/MacOS/MenuCracker
The key for me was ".webex/825/Sharing.app" WebEx is a service by Cicso the company I work for uses for web based meetings. (www.webex.com)
I had no luck finding an uninstaller from them so I did a search for invisible files. Amazing how many of those there are!
Sure enough there was the .webex folder with a bunch of stuff they installed, probably about 2 years a go when I first use the service. This included this "Sharing.app" file that must have been loading on start-up and utilizing the MenuCracker hack.
First I moved this to the trash. But because it was invisible this did not show up there and did not set the trash menu to allow emptying. Besides, I thought to myself, I should not just immediately delete it just-in-case. So I made a new visible folder on my desktop and moved it there.
I then restarted and pulled up console to review the start-up log. Sure enough MenuCracker has now been removed:

Time will tell if this solves my random freezes. I will give it some time to see and report back my findings to see if indeed this hack was causing my issues.
Thanks to all for the input as well as the side banter about Snow Leopard. That has gotten very entertaining. I understand people are frustrated with an upgrade that causes them problems but to get that perfect world Apple would only allow us to use Apple sanctioned software so that they could test permeation of software/hardware to be sure these things didn't happen. Do you really want that? This is exactly what people are complaining about with the iPhone and iPad. you can't have it both ways now can you.

Randomly Freezing and Running Hot
Hi all,
So my MBP mid-2009 seems to randomly freeze without warning and after no particular operation or amount of time. It could be idling with no programs open or be under heavy use and can take anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour, but it is guaranteed to freeze up and require a hard shutdown. I've been running Mavericks since late 2013 and have only had this problem recently (about the past 3 weeks). I've tried many little things but nothing too drastic (like disabling the hard disk sleep option and the Google Drive "show file sync status" option). I have an SSD and a 500GB HDD installed and am running rEFIt because I have 3 bootable partitions (2 were originally clones of OS X and the other is Windows 8 BOOTCAMP). I have noticed that the CPU is running much hotter than it should ( >80C with no load and the fan doesn't seem to spin up until it hits about 87C unless I use SMCFanControl).
Anyway I downloaded and ran EtreCheck and have pasted the output below. I know I'm a little heavy on the RAM usage, but that shouldn't cause this kind of instability. Also I'm not 100% sure (because activity moniter freezes up when I get the beachball), but it seems like Finder and Safari are the culprits of the crash.

I think I may have found the solution, my Crucial M4 was on firmware 0009, the latest is 070H. Apparently the 0309 update fixed a freezing issue:
